On Aulë and the Seduction of Mairon

How badly do you think Aulë took Mairon leaving with Melkor?

It's a random thought of the day- but in true "nobody thinks they're a villain" style, I've got to thinking that in my headcanons- both Melkor and Mairon genuinely think what they're trying to do is the right thing to do. Mairon wants to create- and he wants to create something of HIS design. Not Ilúvatar's design, not Aulë's- his own. It's something he seeks, and it's something Melkor offers- the opportunity for Mairon to do just that and try and "fix" the world as they think it should be. This is pretty dominant in my own headcanons, and I tend to just think about it from their side- a pair that sees the world as something off. A pair that dislikes the lack of free will that following Ilúvatar's design has.

But what of Aulë- who also thinks he's doing the right thing? Who sees so much potential in Mairon- who has seen the quality of his work first hand. He knows what Mairon is capable of, and if his mind didn't wander to different ideas of creation, perhaps he thinks Mairon could be, easily, the greatest of his Maia. But he watches this descent away from conformity- away from his control- or perhaps he saw it as guidance- and perhaps he even saw it coming. After all- we can consider that in actuality- he might understand. He created Dwarves despite that being outside of the plan laid before him- a temptation he fell to.

To Ilúvatar he sights that the drive to create was kindled in him from the start, and surely he of all people understands that it was kindled in Mairon too. I think it's reasonable to assume that he took the greatest of his Maia leaving fairly harshly. A mixture of loss of potential and actual understanding of what drove him there.

Do you think some of his anger could have been jealousy?

Mairon could create what he wanted with Melkor. Perhaps he may think that what he creates is wrong- but it was all, as far as he could see, of his own desire and will. Not pre-laid out before him, but brought in by his own mind and thought.

Do you think he mourns for Mairon's freedom and creations when it's all over? Even the Valar must have feelings- soft spots that ache when something they loved is lost.

Hello, Silm fandom. I haven't forgotten my roots.

I know I don't have a lot of followers - but the Tolkien fandom has gotten me out of very dark places before and I figure it's worth asking anyway-

Does anyone have any words of wisdom and motivation for just...not giving up? I'm going through a lot of heartbreak and I'm just really struggling to have motivation to keep going- writing Angbang used to give me so much peace and I haven't even been able to work on my wips while going through this. I don't really have anyone to talk to but this fandom has given me so much reason in the past.

I'll probably just delete this later but if you even read this I appreciate you.

i love the popular theory that Melkor called Mairon 'my precious', but what if it was the other way around? what if Mairon was the one to call Melkor 'my precious', and Gollum hears in fact Mairon's voice, praying to his lover, thinking of him, calling for him as he forges the ring, intent on amassing an army big enough to assail Valinor and free him from the Void...

Pretty sure everyone in Utumno knew Melkor was in love with Mairon before Mairon even arrived. Probably before Melkor even realized it himself. The way Melkor talked about this Maia who was perfect in every way and the best thing in the world. Melkor actually sounded happy and excited. Of course, no one was stupid enough to say anything. But everyone knew. Worst kept secret in Utumno.

The world existed because Order and Chaos loved each other.

If you've got any Angbang headcanons I'd love to hear them!

Hi, so sorry for the late reply I read this, got distracted, thought I responded, and then realized I didn't. Whoops! But yeah, here's a very disjointed list of random headcanons I have about them! Because honestly I have no idea where to start because I have many feelings about them (too many, probably)

First, "The Seduction of Mairon" as it were was 100% mutal. Honestly this is kind of the big headcanon the kind of sets my groundwork for them lmao. I kind of see their relationship especially in the early stages as built on actually agreeing on multiple things- specifically that they actually share similiar opinions on how the world should be- and after a while of this it's actually more of Mairon who was like "I want in- get me away from Aule and we can work together on this. I'll help you organize your plans, and whatever else you require from me, in exchane for freedom and making whatever I want" and at that point Melkor was already very much romantically attracted to Mairon so like why would he ever say no.

Melkor honestly tries to put on a very uncaring and scary act- he kind of shuts down his emotions because he feels like that's what earns him the most respect/fear- but honestly that goes completely out the window with Mairon. If Melkor is worried about ANYTHING Mairon is the first to know (unless he feels it would wear on Mairon too much- I do love throwing in the occasional angst of "why didn't you tell me this" if Melkor ever keeps a secret). This generally gets worse in my mind after Melkor's hands get burned by the silmarils and after things start to go downhill- where Melkor is almost always around Mairon telling him about his worries as long as Mairon is around.

On that note the only person ever allowed to touch Melkor's hands after they're burnt is also Mairon.

Honestly like 90% of my headcanons boil down to "these two fools love each other to the same intesity of Morticia and Gomez Addams and I'm sure there's some orcs and balrogs that find the constant display of PDA sickening"

Both of their love languages consist of physical touch and lots of conversation or a 180 of simply existing in the same room like cats but not talking at all.

They would 100% do anything for each other, no questions asked. The exception is if it was obviously the most stupid/reckless idea ever but at the same time if they could offer a genuine explanation they're both very likely to do it anyway (though Marion will plan out how to the reckless idea - Melkor will 100% just rush out and do it).

And one last on because I'm running out of off-the-top-of-my-head headcanons: Mairon 100% withdraws if he feels like he failed Melkor in anyway. It's definately not out of fear- Melkor would never hurt Mairon and Mairon knows that without a shadow of a doubt- but he prides himself on being Melkor's equal and anything that makes him feel like he's not matching that crushes him. Unforuntately he is also a perfectionist so sometimes this happens over small things- even if the rest of what he was doin was a success but one things went worse than he expected. Luckily Melkor is good at getting him out of this, normally by just dragging him out of whatever room he's decided he just lives in now and sharing new plans until things are back to normal.

The Rest of a Spectre

To walk the halls of Eregion means to learn the forge is alive. To hear from the clink of a hammer and the spark of hot embers waft through the halls long into the night. When all else has fallen into slumber, you'll still see the forge alight with flame as the rhythmic chime of metal sings a lullaby of hard work never ceasing. It's unending. Unyielding labour. This ghost of the craft paints the halls with the music of forging. It haunts the halls with labour.

Oftentimes it is Celebrimbor who is the spectre. His hammer hits to the strike of midnight and beyond. His face was lit not by the sun, but by the fire at his back and the metal hot red. But as he walks through the halls he finds that the haunting has begun without him. The metal sings a song of being heated and forged into perfect shape. Perfect to all but the one crafting it, as Annatar works endlessly into the night. When Celebrimbor joins him in the forge, Annatar is eyeing a red ring, still hot, holding it in his hands bare to inspect his work. And then it's back to work, with finely pointed tools as he is still not satisfied.
