Does AFO pain mean anything to Izuku? After all, Izuku is always trying to save everyone who needs help.
He listened carefully to Shigaraki as he poured out his pain and frustration to the heroes during the battle, and so Izuku decided to save him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In chapter 421, we see AFO talking about how much pain the loss of Yoichi has brought him, and Izuku listens intently.
Tumblr media
I wonder if Izuku has enough compassion even for someone as terrible as All for One?

I recently heard that there is a theory going viral on Twitter that the enemy the heroes are having to fight now is not an AFO, but a parasite that is the progenitor of Quirks.
Tumblr media
I can’t say that I believe in this theory, but I really like it, and if it were confirmed after a while, I would not be surprised. At the same time, I did pick up one interesting point from this theory, and that is the fact that, according to the author, the emergence of quirks is due to the fact that the corpse of AFO and Yoichi's mother was eaten by rats, the rats became carriers of the "disease", and then they spread her “disease” throughout the world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, this makes so much sense that I'm surprised I didn't figure it out sooner. Horikoshi actually explained to us how the quirks came about, but we didn't notice it. Additionally, Horikoshi hinted at the origin of quirks back in the Overhaul arc, but that was so long ago that many simply couldn't remember it.
Tumblr media
Apart from this, I would also like to remember Nezu. His name comes from the Japanese word nezumi, which means "rat". We don't know much about Nezu other than that he was once experimented on. His age is unknown.
Tumblr media
I would like to note that ordinary rats do not live very long, only 2-3 years, but Nezu is clearly a long-liver. He was already the principal of U.A. when All Might and AFO fought and he knew about OFA for some reason before that battle.
Tumblr media
I'm guessing that he was also the principal of U.A. when All Might was a student, although that was 40 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if Nezu was one of the rats that spread the "disease" throughout the world, or is one of the descendants of those rats.

How do you think AFO would be taken out?
Hard to say! All the heroes uniting against him as ~the ultimate evil~ might seem satisfying on some level, but it also plays directly into AFO's toxic comic book narrative and it doesn’t really "engage" with his character in a totally satisfying way, if that makes sense. I'm firmly on team "afo shouldn't get what he wants, Ever" so I'm not a fan of any ending that merrily sends him off into his next life as a "demon lord" instead of actively trying to rip that mask from him. Hori hasn't really let me down on this front, yet-- and as I suspected, it does seem as though chapter 419's AFO is more or less picking up where body!AFO's character arc left off. AFO's core desires as a human and the immensely fragile "heart" he's hidden away are both things that are being directly challenged in the most recent chapter, too:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Izuku, the hero, constantly inspires others to come to his aid because he doesn't hide his humanity, his identity, or his struggles from others-- people see him fighting for his life and realize that he is "just like them," and that motivates them to rush to his side and offer help. Meanwhile, AFO finds himself completely alone because he wont let go of the demon lord role and accept his own humanity. Something something We Still Need To Know His Name smthing sm.
With all of that in mind, I still think the most appropriate way of defeating him involves forcing him to confront his own humanity + weakness in all its ugliness (which Hori has already been doing at a pretty steady rate this arc!) and ultimately forcing him to take responsibility for Yoichi's death. This might seem like a massive leap from the person AFO is right now, but depending on how things go, I do think Hori could pull it off.
Anyway, as for what I would like to see:
Personally, I would like an end where he willingly lets Yoichi go (and by proxy, finally lets Tenko go). Not because I think this would redeem him (it wont) or because I want him redeemed (i don't), but because I do feel like something along these lines would be the natural conclusion to his character arc and the best way to symbolize him accepting death/his mistakes. He came into the world desperately gripping onto Yoichi, and was unable to ever truly live or truly die due to his obsession-- so it makes sense to me that AFO will only be able to leave this world when he finally lets Yoichi go. Like.... even now, we see him stubbornly persisting with the idea of conquering the world even though he feels it's totally pointless-- with the implication that he's doing this because the demon lord role and the captain hero comics are literally the only thing he has atp that still connect him to Yoichi in some capacity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If I end up being right and the OFA embers now exist within Tenko's body, then ideally, I still want some sort of conversation + resolution between the brothers before Yoichi finally passes on with the rest of the OFA embers. I'll admit that I've never been 100% fond of the idea of reading Izuku & Tenko's story as Yoichi/AFO's "good ending", simply because so much of Tenko's story is about reclaiming his own identity (+ detangling himself from his abusers) and so much of Izuku's story is about finding his own identity-- which is why I feel the final resolution to the OFAFO plot needs to be between AFO and Yoichi, not Izuku and Tenko.
I actually don't want Tenko to kill him! I think I've said this before, but I feel this outcome would be only satisfying to folks who want Tenko to have very surface-level revenge on his abuser w/o thinking about the effect this act would have on Tenko himself. I personally feel it wouldn't do Tenko any favors, mentally, since the crux of AFO's abuse involved convincing Tenko that he only exists to destroy. And people really hate to admit it, but-- Tenko sincerely loved AFO and I don't want him to have to repeat the tragedy of being forced to kill someone he loved all over again (even if they don't deserve that love by any stretch of the word). Like, a lot of people want Tenko to take AFO out the same way he took Kotaro out, but I feel this would only emphasize how Tenko and AFO are trapped in an endlessly repeating cycle.
Tumblr media
side note: Kotaro coming directly from AFO's stomach/womb during the 270's vestige realm sequence feels extremely intentional now, what with the constant cannibalism and pregnancy imagery surrounding AFO and Tenko. MHA continues to be a masterful example of visual storytelling and Horikoshi continues to be a straight up freak for no real reason /positive!
A big part of Tenko's healing was always going to involve him confronting his feelings for Kotaro, specifically-- all of his love and disappointment and wishes and anger. And with that in mind, it feels like Hori is setting AFO up to act as a sort of Kotaro proxy for this next stretch of Tenko's character arc (even TomurAFO's current hairstyle and facial structure reminds me of a mix of Kotaro x AFO x Toshi.... Hori really said "Tomura's final character design is gonna be a mish-mash of every potential father-figure who has ever let him down byeeeeee :)" and he was sooooo sick for doing that wtf). Anyway, I know people like to joke about AFOtaro, but honestly, the narrative itself really does justify the read of Tenko being AFO and Kotaro's traumababy lmfao...., 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also worth mentioning is that this iteration of AFO/TomurAFO has pupils, despite there being no Tenko component to his personality at this time. AFO's lack of pupils are textually/canonically meant to convey his inability to "see" others as people, so I'm very interested to see where Hori intends to take things from here.

Honestly, I'm really worried about Aizawa. None of those currently facing AFO have strong enough combat quirks to do serious damage, and Aizawa's quirk isn't as effective as it used to be. Even with Mic and Shirakumo on his side, I don't see a way out of this situation. Unless it suddenly turns out that Izuku can still fight (this is quite possible, because he should have had the strength reserve accumulated by OFA, just like All Might did when he transferred the quirk to Izuku), or that Shigaraki returns and confronts AFO, I think Aizawa has a pretty high chance of dying.
I don't know if this is widely known, but Horikoshi's original plan was for Midnight to become Class 1-A's homeroom teacher, and as you know, she died in the War Arc. At that moment, I wondered if this was a foreshadowing of Aizawa dying in the final battle. So far, no important characters have died in the final battle, while two important characters died during the War Arc: Midnight and Twice. One hero and one villain. In the final battle, AFO will definitely be killed (formally he is already dead), but who will we lose among the heroes?

You know, I suddenly remembered that Chisaki had one distinct characteristic: he hated dirt, and as soon as it got on his skin, he tried to wipe it off as quickly as possible.
Tumblr media
Now that I've learned that Decay is essentially half of Chisaki's quirk, I'm wondering if Shigaraki's "allergy" is because Chisaki's quirk makes the quirk user's skin too sensitive or something, and that's why Chisaki, knowing about this, he always tried to avoid dirt, while Shigaraki ignored external irritants and therefore his skin constantly itched.
Also, I decided to re-read the Overhaul arc, and I saw a comment on one of the pages written 4 years ago, which said that Chisaki and Shigaraki's quirks were suspiciously similar to each other. Now, knowing what we know, it's ironic to see something like this. Some people simply guessed this plot twist from the very beginning.

I've seen several people complain that chapter 419 doesn't make sense. One of the main arguments is the fact that All for One persuaded Kotaro to have a second child, instead of just using Hana. AFO himself said that Hana was simply too old to be part of his plans, which many found strange. However, perhaps the whole point is that by the time AFO began to closely monitor the Shimura family, Hana had already developed a quirk, so AFO could no longer make it appear that Kotaro's daughter was born quirkless.

BNHA MANGA SPOILERS‼️
AFO says Yoichi is gone, but what if it's just that he's not inside Shigaraki? I remember the second movie when Izuku voluntarily gave the OFA to Katsuki and at the end of the battle the quirk was returned back to Izuku by the will of the OFA users. Izuku also voluntarily handed over the OFA to Tomura. So if the OFA users are alive, they could just return to Izuku again (except Shinomori), and AFO might not notice. Although it depends on whether AFO's Search Quirk is constantly activated or not, because otherwise he would see that Izuku has OFA again.

BNHA MANGA SPOILERS‼️
Since we now know that Shigaraki has half of Chisaki's quirk, theoretically, if/when Tomura returns, maybe all this emotional turmoil will cause the Chisaki's quirk inside Tomura to awaken so he can later restore Izuku's arms.

My thoughts on chapter 418 and 419.
In fact, the first part of this post was written by me long before the spoilers of chapter 419, but it simply was not published. I think it's time to share my opinion.
I saw a post a while ago in which a person complained about some annoying anonymous people who claimed that AFO was nothing more than evil in the flesh and that he had no feelings. This inspired me to write a post about this because I strongly disagree with this opinion.
While this is not a surprise given the AFO flashback chapters, I think people shouldn't take the Narrator's words in these chapters at face value because All for One is the most unreliable narrator I've ever seen. The same Tomura in chapter 418 experiences an identity crisis, because for the first time he began to realize that he was not created for destruction. You can watch the end of chapter 237 where Shigaraki comes to the conclusion that the reason he killed his family was because he really wanted to do it, but that's NOT the case.
Tumblr media
This is what AFO convinced him of, repeating over and over again that Shigaraki was born to destroy.
This is what AFO meant when he said in Chapter 418 that Tomura had never made a single independent decision in his entire life: because AFO had brainwashed Tenko so much that even when AFO wasn't there to show him the way, Tomura continued to think that way in a way that supported the ideas of destruction that AFO wanted from him.
At the same time, All for One constantly denies that he has any human feelings or emotions, to the point of convincing himself that the tears he shed in front of Kudo were a tool of manipulation, although this makes no sense. I was always convinced that AFO, no matter how much he pretended to be an emotionless monster, always felt heartache over the loss of Yoichi.
Now that the spoilers for chapter 419 have been released, despite my overall shock at what happened in this chapter (I really didn't expect Izuku to lose his arms, even if there were signs for it), my opinion hasn't changed much. While I have to admit that I couldn't have foreseen the extent to which AFO interfered in Tenko's life (to the point where AFO encouraged Kotaro to have a second child), it did confirm what I wanted to write about Chapter 418. AFO controlled every aspect of Shigaraki's life, right down to his thoughts, without Tomura realizing it.
At the same time, I think chapter 419 also confirmed that AFO was an unreliable narrator in chapters 407-408, and that he actually has feelings, despite how much of a monster AFO presented himself as in those two chapters. If you pay attention to AFO's eyes when he took over Tomura's body in Chapter 419, you can see how AFO is devastated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite AFO defeating Shigaraki's will, he does not feel triumphant. He doesn't seem to care about his victory. And the reason for this is quite simple: he lost Yoichi. AFO has lost his little brother, and now all he can do is return to his main plan to take over the world. Although without Yoichi it doesn't mean as much to him now.
