Chapter 11

"Lord Tengen!" Makio called out, her, Hinatsuru, and Suma going over to their husband to make sure he was alright. Tengen didn't bother to look up at them, an emotionless expression on his face as he moved some of M/N's (H/C) hair away from his face. As the three wives reached Tengen, Suma was the first to notice M/N in his arms and gasped in shock. "M/N!" Suma said, falling to her knees while Hinatsuru and Makio widened their eyes. "M/N! Are you-" Suma stopped when she touched M/N's cheek, feeling that his skin was ice cold. It was then that Suma saw that M/N's chest wasn't moving up and down, Suma looking at Tengen for him to explain what happened to M/N.

Tengen was silent for a moment, before turning his attention to his wives with tears falling down his face. "I'm sorry....." Tengen let out, Suma covering her mouth and beginning to cry. "No.....NO!" Suma cried out, sobbing as Hinatsuru and Makio had their own tears fall. Tengen hugged M/N, muttering under his breath "I love you....so goddamn much". Tengen sadly smiled, cradling the corpse of M/N and whispering "Please...rest easy.". Tengen then stood up, holding M/N's lifeless body bridal style. Suma, Hinatsuru, and Makio stood up themselves, Tengen telling them "C'mon.....we need to bring him back home.".

As Tengen began to walk away with his wives following behind, Tengen's eyes were only on M/N. He never realized just how peaceful M/N looked....it almost was if he was sleeping. Tanjiro, who had awaken, found Tengen and went over to him, But stopped in his tracks when he saw the state M/N was in. Tanjiro felt tears form in his eyes, Tengen walking past him and not saying a word. "....I'm sorry." Tanjiro whispered, the only thing he could say in this situation. Tengen paused for a moment, chuckling and said to Tanjiro "Don't be......you're the last person to apologize to me.". Tanjiro watched as Tengen continued walking away, Tengen smiling a bit as he left with his wives with a heavy heart. ——————————

Tengen retired from being a hashira shortly after......

He couldn't continue now that one of the lights of of his life was gone, the pain of knowing he was gone being too much to bare for him. Tengen still worked with the demon slayer corps, but in the sidelines as an aid. Kagaya understood the pain Tengen was going through, letting him retire so that he could take his time to grieve. The time Tengen spent mourning his son was by mainly visiting the places they always went to, usually sitting In silence with the wind being his only company.

Tengen hoped M/N was happy in the afterlife, and that he was waiting for him to get there himself so that the two could be together again. Until then, M/N was probably with Tengen's siblings, hearing the stories of his father from when he was young by them and telling his ow stories of him to them as well. Currently, Tengen was looking up at the stars that were in the night sky while laying on top of a hill. When M/N was younger, he would always admire the stars and call out the constellations that he found to his father. Tengen still imagined M/N next to him, pointing up at the sky and saying to him "Dad! It's the Andromeda constellation!" With a big smile on his face.

Tengen was soon about about to drift off to sleep, his eyes closing and his vision turning black as he entered dreamland......

"Dad!" A voice exclaimed, Tengen finding himself standing in a field. In front of him was M/N, who was smiling and extending his arms out to Tengen so that he could be picked up. Tengen realized this, tears beginning to form in his eyes as he slowly walked to M/N and knelt down to be eye level with him. "M/N...." Tengen choked back a sob, cupping his son's face and quickly embracing him. Tengen started to cry, M/N hugging him back while still having the smile on his face. "Oh M/N......I missed you so much." Tengen whispered, M/N giggling and pressing on kiss on his cheek. As Tengen released M/N, M/N asked "Why do you miss me?".

"Because...You're no longer with me." "No I'm not! I'm still here!" Tengen widened his eyes, asking M/N "What do you mean?". M/N pointed to the place in Tengen's chest where his heart was at, happily saying "I'm in there!". Tengen blushed for a moment, M/N putting his forehead on Tengen's and telling him "You have to go now....".

"but why? Can't I stay here with you forever?!" M/N grabbed ahold of his hands, putting something in it and said "I'm afraid you can't....". "But....you can still visit." Tengen pressed a kiss to M/N, M/N wrapping his arms around his neck and hugging him. Tengen hugged him back, hoping that he could stay like this with M/N for a long time. As the released each other, M/N started to run to where a group of people around Tengen's age were, M/N waving goodbye to him and exclaiming "Bye dad!".

Tengen soon realized who the people with M/N were, smiling due to recognizing them as his siblings. Tengen's siblings started to wave goodbye to him too, Tengen chuckling and waving goodbye back to them. "Bye....." Tengen whispered, watching M/N walk into the sunset together with his siblings, smiling his innocent smile that Tengen loved to always see.

Tengen woke up, sitting up and looking around to see that he was back on the hill. It was now morning, the sun slowly rising up into the sky as Tengen sighed and frowned a bit. "A dream, huh?" Tengen muttered, quickly feeling something clutched in his hand. Tengen opened his hand and see what he was holding, gasping when he saw the origami crane M/N gave him. Soon, Tengen sadly smiled, whispering "So you really are still here" as he gripped on the origami crane. "Lord Tengen! There you are!" Hinatsuru called out, Tengen looking back to see his wives waiting for him. "Are you okay? You didn't come home last night?" Makio asked, Tengen standing up and smiling at the three while tears of joy started to fall.

"I'm great!" Tengen said, going to his wives while still holding onto the origami crane. "Watch over me, M/N...." Tengen thought, memories of him and M/N flashing in his mind,

"Be my angel from now on.....until I see you again."

CHAPTER 10

Was it safe to come out yet?

M/N was hiding in a building far away from where Tengen and the others were, and he felt like it's been hours since he waited in there. He wanted to get out, to check on his father and see if he was alright. But at the same time, he didn't want to take the risk of possibky being in the middle of a still ongoing fight. As M/N pondered what to do in his mind, he noticed smoke coming from where the battle was taking place. "Fire?" M/N thought, stepping out of the building he was in to get a better look. He now knew his decision.....he needed to go.

M/N took off, running over to the area while a million thoughts ran in his head. Was his father alright? Was the battle over? These questions could only be answered if he went over there, and M/N hoped that it would be on time. M/N finally reached the area, seeing fire and destroyed buildings around him. "Dad?!" M/N called out, looking around in hopes of seeing Tengen alive and well. Instead, M/N saw Gyutaro and Tanjiro, Gyutaro standing in front of an injured Tanjiro while talking to him. M/N knew that whatever Gyutaro was saying to Tanjiro wasn't good, especially since he couldn't see the others anywhere.

M/N grabbed a rock that was near him and threw it at Gyutaro, the rock hitting him straight on the head. Gyutaro stopped talking, slowly turning around to face M/N with a scowl on his face directed towards the young boy. "Oh.....forgot about you." Gyutaro said, M/N stepping back as he got closer. "What should I do? I can always keep you as a pet.....but I highly doubt Daki would like an annoying brat such as yourself." Gyutaro put hand around M/N's neck and held it tightly, lifting M/N up as tried to gasp for air. "It would be too much work to turn you into a demon....so I guess I could just kill you." Gyutaro smiled as he clutched onto M/N's neck, M/N crying while trying to call out for someone.

"M/N!" Tanjiro shouted, trying to get up by the injury that was inflicted on him by Gyutaro prevented him from doing so. He could only watch as Gyutaro choked M/N, M/N slowly but surely losing the last of his air. Just then, someone came between Gyutaro and M/N, causing Gyutaro to drop M/N. M/N looked up to see who saved him, it being none other than Tengen. "Get the fuck off my son...." Tengen growled, aiming his swords at Gyutaro. Gyutaro just wickedly laughed, saying "So, you really did survive after all!". Tengen glared at him, M/N quickly standing up and hugging his father. "Get out of here." Tengen told M/N, M/N letting him go as he began to fight Gyutaro. M/N watched from the sidelines as the two clashed their swords together, having never witness his father fight before in his life.

Tanjiro, who was now able to get up, joined the fight, M/N making sure that there was distance between him and the battle so he wouldn't be roped into it. And right when M/N noticed that Inousuke and Zenitsu were on the rooftops of the still standing buildings fighting Daki, both Daki and Gyutaro were decapitated at the same time. As their heads rolled next to each other, M/N smiled and ran over to Tengen and Tanjiro to congratulate them. "Dad! You did it!" M/N exclaimed, waving to Tengen in hopes of getting his attention. However; when Tengen saw M/N coming his way, he yelled out to him "DON'T COME ANY CLOSER!".

M/N didn't get a chance to react, Gyutaro's body emitting a explosion right in the area of where they were at.......

Tengen slowly opened his eyes, coughing as he sat up and tried to regain his vision. Did they really defeat Gyutaro and Daki? If so, why were there just an explosion now? Was it Gyutaro's last attempt to get back at them? Tengen shook those those thoughts out of his mind, realizing something that was more important to him. M/N......

"M/N?" Tengen asked, quickly standing up and holding his side as he looked around the area he was at. The espy must have separated them....and if so, Tengen prayed that M/N wasn't badly hurt by it. Tengen started to limo, calling out M/N's name in hopes that he would hear it. He was about to pass fragments of rubble until he noticed a small leg sticking from under there. "No...." Tengen let out, making his way over to the rubble and throwing the fragments of it off. After throwing it all away, Tengen saw a badly injured M/N laying on the ground, breathing slowly with blood spewing out of him

"Dad? Is that you?" M/N weakly asked, Tengen taking him into his arms and gently cradling him. "Yeah, it's me." Tengen said, M/N sniffling and letting tears fall down his face. "Dad.....it hurts." M/N whispered, Tengen moving some of his (H/C) hair away and behind his ear, "I want the pain to stop.". Tengen didn't want to believe what he was hearing, refusing to accept that what was happening was real. "I know....just hang on for a moment." Tengen said, cupping M/N's face and giving him a kiss, "Help will be here soon.". "But....I want it to stop now." Tengen frowned, holding M/N even closer while he held back his own tears. "I don't want to die.." M/N said, Tengen biting his lip in an attempt to keep his composure.

".....I'm sorry. I'm sorry for not being able to protect you." Tengen muttered, M/N reaching his hand out to him so that he could take it. "I'm sorry for being such an awful father....." "No......please don't apologize." M/N sadly smiled at Tengen, Tengen squeezing his hand while having his tears fall. ".....Dad, I want to go home." M/N whispered, Tengen placing his forehead on top is his. "We'll be home soon....just close your eyes and go to sleep." Tengen said, M/N weakly nodding and slowly shutting his eyes and laying his head on his chest. "Goodnight dad.....I love you." M/N mumbled, his eyes closing as he stopped breathing. Tengen closed his eyes, feeling M/N's heartbeat stop and kiss him one last time. "I love you too...." Tengen said, rocking back and forth with M/N still in his arms.

Not many people's final words were "I love you".....and that just happened to be his only child's one. And Out of everything and everyone in the world....he had to die in his arms.

CHAPTER 9

"....Where am I?" M/N thought, slowly opening his eyes to see himself in a dark room. As he sat up, he noticed that someone was standing in front of him, but they were shrouded in the shadows. "Dad?" M/N asked, a snarl being heard from the person. "I'm not your daddy....brat." The person said, M/N scooting away from them in fear. "You're not....dad?" A chuckle escaped the person's lips, coming out of the shadow's so that their appearance can be seen by M/N. M/N widened his eyes, remembering exactly who the person....no, demon, was.

It was the same demon he bumped into when he ran away from Tengen......

As M/N stared in horror at the demon, the demon started to scratch it's face and say to him "I really wanted to kill you right then and there.....but you're just too cute.". The demon took ahold M/N's face, a crooked smile directed to him while the demon said "I can keep you....yeah, I can.". "DAD!" M/N screamed, pushing the demon off him and crawling away from him. However, the demon just grabbed his leg and pulled him back to him. "You really shouldn't mess with me...." The demon growled, M/N whimpering and holding back tears.

"I really don't want to kill someone as cute as you......but you're pushing me there." The demon glared at M/N, movng some of his hair away from his face. "Hey....You're that hashira's kid....right?" The demon asked, M/N hesitantly nodding which made him chuckle and smirk. "Well....that makes things more interesting." The demon then threw M/N onto the floor, M/N hitting his back onto the floor. "Stay here....and if you move......I'll have your head." The demon threatened, leaving M/N in the room. "No!" M/N shouted, getting up and going over to the door.

"Let me out! Please!" M/N begged, slamming his hands onto the door in order to get it open. His efforts were futile, the door staying shut no matter how hard he hit it. "Please.....I want my dad." M/N whispered, his tears going down and falling onto his knees.

it didn't take long for M/N to suffer an asthma attack......

M/N was laying on the floor of the room, looking out the window to see the moon brightly illuminated in the sky. M/N's chest soon started to tighten, M/N putting a hand to it and breathing in and out slowly in order to stop the tightness from getting worse. "Dad.....where are you?" M/N thought, the tightness in his chest increasing and his breathing becoming hoarse. He usually never had to deal with an attack alone, so he didn't know what to do without his father in his side.

After a few seconds, M/N began to cough harshly. M/N covered his mouth with his arm, trying to muffle his coughs but it instead made it worse. M/N shortly threw up, vomit coming out of his mouth as he cried in pain. "Someone....please.....PLEASE HELP ME!" M/N screamed, hoping somebody, anybody, heard him. He didn't want to stay in this place anymore. He wanted to see Tengen again.....he missed him so much. As M/N threw up once more, a loud explosion was heard, rattling the floor below him. Right when M/N's vision started to get blurry, the door to the room he was in busted open, Tengen coming in with a worried look on his face. "M/N!" Tengen yelled, going over to his son and taking him into his arms.

"D-Dad?" M/N asked, Tengen beginning to rock back and forth and pressing a kiss to his forehead. "Shh....don't say anything." Tengen took M/N's hand into his and squeezed it, M/N's breathing slowly but surely going back to normal. "I'm sorry.....I'm so sorry." Tengen whispered, M/N frowning and coughing slightly. "No....I'm sorry.......I shouldn't have-"What did I say about talking?" M/N hiccuped, Tengen rubbing his back and holding him close to his chest. The two were like this for a while, Tengen looking down at M/N to see that he was back to breathing normally. "Do you think you can stand up?" Tengen asked, helping M/N up to his feet. M/N stumbled a bit, but Tengen managed to keep his balance.

"How adorable~" A voice said, Tengen and M/N looking in front of them to see Gyutaro and Daki. Tengen quickly stood in front of M/N, M/N hiding behind Tengen due to his newfound fear of Gyutaro. "Seeing a father's love is such a heartwarming sight....but seeing a father's despair is much more entertaining for me." Gyutaro said, Tengen glaring at him and saying "Don't you dare lay a finger on my son.". Gyutaro just cackled, telling Tengen "You're quite the oddball...aren't you?". "You're not like any of the other hashira I have killed. You must have been special since the day you were born, a chosen talent." Gyutaro cruelly smiled, exclaiming "That makes me so jealous! I need you to die as soon as possible!".

Tengen just smirked at this, Gyutaro giving him an confused look. "Do I look like someone with any talent?" Tengen asked, staring straight at Gyutaro, "If someone like me gives that impression, you really are living a blessed life.". "You may be centuries old, but if you stayed shut up in a place like this.....I guess you can't help being ignorant of the real world." "What do you know about it?" "I know all right." Tengen looked back at M/N, giving him a sad smile as he said "I've been a terrible father......so much I don't deserve the title.". M/N gasped at this, Tengen turning his attention to Gyutaro and Daki again.

"Dad....you really think that?" M/N thought, processing this new piece of information given to him. "Me, Chosen? Don't make me laugh." Tengen said to the two demons, Gyutaro glaring at him and asking "Then how do you explain it?". "My blood sickles are drenched with deadly poison, yet you simply refused to die!" As Gyutaro scratched himself, Tengen told him "I've come from a line of shinobi, I've become resistant, so poison doesn't work on me.". "Poison?" M/N muttered, worry no inside him for his father.

"The poision's slowly affecting you in the end! Death is still your final fate!" Gyutaro told Tengen, Tengen just chuckling and patting M/N's head. "Run...find somewhere safe to hide until all of this blows over." Tengen said, M/N shaking his head and wrapping his arms around his legs. "No!" "Please....." M/N looked up and nodded, sniffling and leaving the building to a safe area. "No you don't! Gyutaro shouted, about to chase M/N but was stopped by Tengen. M/N yelped when he saw Gyutaro reach out for him, tripping over himself and falling to the floor.

"M/N, hurry up!" Tengen said, trying his best to hold off Gyutato and Daki so that M/N could escape. M/N got up, running as fast as he can while praying in his mind "Dad.....please be okay......".

If only he and Tengen knew what was going to happen soon.......

CHAPTER 8

Tengen decided to complete the mission by himself....

it has already been two days since they have been in the entertainment district, and Zenitsu had already gone missing. When he found out about this, Tengen told Tanjiro and Inousuke to abandon the mission, sensing that the danger would be too much for them to handle. Tengen also had to get M/N out of the district as well, not wanting his son to get involved any further. As Tengen watched M/N sleep peacefully, he took a deep breath and shook him awake. M/N slowly opened his eyes, moving some of his hair out of his face and looking up at Tengen with tried eyes.

"M/N.....there's a carriage at the entrance waiting for you." Tengen said, sadly smiling at his son and cupping his face, "I already paid the fee for it, just get on and leave.". "But....what about you?" "I'm staying.....it's too dangerous for you to stay here." M/N sat up, Tengen pressing a kiss on his forehead and quickly embracing him. "But I don't want to leave you!" M/N tasks, Tengen sighing and saying to him "You have to, it's the only way to keep you safe.". "I want to help! I don't want to run away while you have to fight for me!" Tengen noticed M/N's tears were now falling down his face, wiping some of it away.

"I'll be okay." "And what if you're not!" Tengen sighed, M/N taking his hand and squeezing it tightly. ".....fine." Tengen muttered, letting M/N wrap his arms around his neck so that he could carry him. "Stay With me the entire time, and run away as fast as you can when I tell you to." Tengen told him, M/N nodding as he opened the window of their room and jumped out.

"What happened to Zenko and Hinatsuru?" Tengen calmly asked the Kyogoku house brothel manager, putting a kundalini close to his neck as he stood behind him. M/N watched with an worried look, scared over the method his father was taking for answers while Tengen waited for an answer. The brothel manager was silent for a moment, trying to process what was happening to him. "....Zenko disappeared." The brothel manager said, the kunai still aimed at his neck, "Hinatsuru fell ill and left for the kirimise.". Tengen wanted more, saying to the brothel manager "Tell me everything that you think might be relevant.".

"who are you suspecting?" Tengen removed the kunai from the brothel manager's neck, so that he could trust him to say what he needed. "....An Oiran amend Warabihime, she's in a room in the north side that has no light." The brothel manager said, Tengen getting up and taking M/N with him out of the room to where Warabihime was staying. However, when they got there, there was no one. M/N sniffled a bit, trying to hold back tears as he thought about Hinatsuru. He was scared that she could have been dead, and even if Suma and Makio were alive, having not all three of his mother's would still cause despair to M/N. Tengen noticed this, kneeling down to M/N's height and placed his forehead on top of his.

"We're going to find her....we're going to find them all." Tengen whispered, M/N nodding and wrapping his arms around Tengen's neck. Tengen than left the room, carrying M/N as he jumped from rooftop to rooftop to the kirimise. Once they got there, Tengen landed into the ground and was about to run past building if it weren't for M/N's eye being caught by a familiar person that was tied up with an obi in the building. "Mommy!" M/N cries out, Tengen stopping and seeing that it was Hinatsuru who was tied up. Tengen put M/N down and went inside the building with him. As Tengen cut the obi off of Hinatsuru, he held her in his arms while M/N went beside him. "Mommy! Mommy!" M/N said, shaking Hinatsuru in hopes of getting her to open her eyes. Hinatsuru slowly did, Tengen getting o it an antidote and putting it into her mouth.

"Mommy!" M/N grabbed Hinatsuru's hand, Hinatsuru weakly smiling at him and asking "M/N.....what are you doing here?". "I brought him...." Tengen said, Hinatsuru looking at him and breathing slowly. "Forgive me, Lord Tengen." Hinatsuru said, M/N squeezing her hand in hopes of comforting her, "Please....do not trouble yourself with me. Go now and take M/N with you.". "You heard that sound, didn't you? The demon is on a rampage." Tengen held Hinatsuru close to him, telling her "Once the antidote starts working, leave Yoshiwara....you hear me?". Hinatsuru nodded, M/N hiccuping and kissing her on her cheek. Hinatsuru smiled, saying "You don't have to leave....please stay.....".

M/N only shook his head, telling Hinatsuru "I'm helping! I don't want to be useless.....". Hinatsuru softly chuckled, cupping M/N's face while she said "That's my boy....". Tengen put Hinatsuru down, picking M/N up in his arms bridal style and leaving to find where the demon was. "She will be okay....right?" M/N asked, Tengen looking down at him and nodding. "Just focus on yourself......I won't be able to forgive myself if you ever get hurt." Tengen said, holding M/N closer to him as he jumped from roof to roof.

As the two arrived back at the district, Tengen immediately heard nosies coming from ground. Tengen put his ear to it, hearing the sounds of battling coming from under. "M/N, move aside." Tengen said, M/N taking a few steps back while Tengen took out his swords. "Sound breathing, first form.....roar!" Tengen hit the ground with his swords, creating a hole. Tengen grabbed M/N and fell since the hole, M/N hiding his face in his chest as they went down to wherever the bodies were. M/N couldn't tell if when they landed, the dust around him blocking his sight. He felt himself be put down by Tengen, Tengen whispering to him "Stay." and ran over to something.

Soon, the sounds of swords slicing something was then heard, the dust finally settling and M/N being able to see again. That was when M/N saw pieces of an obi falling from the air, noticing that it was the same color as the obi that Hinatsuru was tied up in. "M/N!" A voice called out, M/N looking in front of him to see Suma and Makio going over to him. Suma and Makio both took M/N into a hug, M/N returning the hug while crying and cuddling into their chests. "We're so sorry!" Makio cried out, Suma sobbing and kissing M/N as M/N wiped the tears from his eyes, "I.....I thought I was never going to see you again!". Tengen went to them, softly smiling at the sight.

"Nice to see you two doing well." Tengen said, Makio and Suma looking at him and standing up straight. Tengen simply chuckled, looking over at M/N and telling his wives "I want you to take him somewhere safe.....I see now that he can't be around this place anymore.". "But.....you said I could come?" "I know, but you have to understand that......" Tengen trailed off, noticing M/N ball his fist up and glare at him. "Why can't I ever help?!" M/N shouted, Tengen having never heard his son raise his voice before. "Is it because I'm weak!?" "No...it's not-" "Yes it is! You think I'm useless and that I can't do anything! It's not fair!" M/N started to run away, Tengen calling out "M/N! Come back here!".

M/N ran out of the underground tavern, tears threatening to fall down as he wiped them away. "Am I.....really useless?" M/N thought, not bothering to see what was in front of him. Just then, M/N felt himself bump into someone, falling on his behind and looking up to see who it was. "Dammit....watch where you're going, brat." The person said, M/N's heart having stopped beating when he realized who it was. The person had black dotted, pale Gray compexion and reddish green eyes, with unruly black hair.

that was when M/N realized that he had encountered a demon.......and he shortly passed out in fear.

M/N couldn't have run that far...so where the hell was he. Tengen's heart rate was faster than it should be, worried over what could have happened to M/N.

CHAPTER 7

"Listen, don't do anything that'll make you stand out." Tengen said, him and M/N riding in carriage into the entertainment district with Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inousuke behind them in their own carriage, "So, whatever you do, don't get out of the carriage." Right when Tengen said that, Both Zenitsu and Inousuke jumped out of their carriage, the two in awe over the district. Tanjiro quickly got out of the carriage himself, following them so that they wouldn't get lost. "Those stinking brats!" Tengen angrily yelled, his and M/N's carriage stopping so that they could get out. Tengen started to chase after them with M/N shortly behind him, M/N looking around the district with wonder in his eyes.

After finally regrouping with the three, Tengen noticed just how mesmerized M/N was and softly chuckled. "Flashy, huh?" Tengen asked, ruffling M/N's hair as he looked up at him and smiled. Tengen smiled back, picking M/N up and letting him take in the sight. "This is the Yoshiwara Entertainment District." Tengen said, giving an introduction to M/N in where they were, "Awash in vanity and the desire of men and women, it's a town of the night swirling with love and hate.". "Why do they call it the entertainment district?" M/N asked, Tengen telling him "It's because of the prostitutes that reside here.".

"What's a prostitute?" ".....When you're older, you'll find out."

Tengen had managed to find a place to briefly reside in, Tengen sitting in front of Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inousuke in the room they rented while M/N sat on his lap. "Now, When you've infiltrated the entertainment district, first look for my bride." Tengen said, explaining what the mission entailed for the others, "I'll be digging for information on the demons, as well.". Zenitsu just angrily glared at him, shouting "THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!" while Tengen just raised a brow at him. "Huh?" "How dare you use your subordinates to personally find a bride for yourself!" Tengen glared back at Zenitsu, asking him "How did you get that idea?"

"I CAN't BELIEVE YOU HAVE A SON AND STILL ACT THIS WAY!" Zenitsu yelled, Tanjiro trying to calm him down. "I'M SURE THAT A SCREWED-UP ODDBALL LIKE YOU HAD NO LUCK WITH THE LADIES. EVEN SO, JUST BECAUSE YOU WANT A WIFE, THAT'S NO REASON TO USE DEMON SLAYER LIKE US!". When Zenitsu said that, Tengen yelled back at him "ARE YOU AN IDIOT? I'M TALKING AVOUT A WIDE WHO'S INFILTRATED THE ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT AND IS HARD AT WORK GATHERING INTEL ON THE DEMONS!". Tengen looked down and saw that M/N was hiding his face in his chest, scared over his and Zenitsu's loud arguement. "Now look at what you've done...." Tengen muttered, rubbing M/N's back to comfort him while Zenitsu just stared with an annoyed expression.

Tengen than took out multiple envelopes, saying "These are the letters sent via the Kasugai crow.". "There's quite a lot." Tanjiro said, picking up some of the envelopes, "Has she been undercover for a long time?". "Well, I do have three of them. Wives." Tengen told him, Zenitsu's eyes widening as he went into shock. "Three of them.....wives?" Zenitsu let out, quickly asking Tengen "WHY DO YOU HAVE THREE WIVES?". Zenitsu turned his attention to M/N, asking him "ARE YOU AWARE OF THIS?". M/N nodded, telling Zenitsu "They are my mommies!". "SO YOU NEVER QUESTIONED WHO GAVE BIRTH TO-" Zenitsu didn't get a chance to finish his question, Tengen punching him in his stomach with a glare on his face.

Tanjiro, trying to chance the subject, asked "Um, in the letters, they keep reminding you not to stand out when you come. What are we going to do exactly?". Tengen sighed, telling him "Disguise yourselves, in a drab much I must regretfully inform you.". Just then, M/N took Tengen's hand and tugged on it, Tengen looking back at him and asking "Yeah?". ".....What did you even send them here for?" M/N asked, Tengen realizing he hasn't even told the reason they were even here in the first place to him. "Well, since this place is only active at night, I wanted to see if this would be a good place for demons." Tengen said, M/N tensing up when he heard "demons".

"When I first went as a customer, I couldn't get anything on them. So, I sent in your moms in as prostitutes to be more closer than a customer could be." Tengen smiled a bit at M/N, M/N looking down to the floor and mumbling "I hope that they're alright....". "It sounds like they've died." Inousuke spoke up, M/N gasping and feeling tears form in his eyes. Tengen quickly punched Inousuke in his stomach, going back to M/N and comforting him by saying "They're not dead....". Soon, the door to the room opened, a man with a box beside him telling Tengen "Sorry to intrude, but I brought the things you need.".

"....thanks." Tengen said, taking the box and opening it to reveal kimonos. "Dad, are you really going to...." M/N said, now seeing what Tengen was going to disguise Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inousuke as. Tengen nodded, asking M/N "Want to do their makeup?". M/N beamed with excitement, taking the makeup kit and going over to the three with a big smile.

"I'm going to make you beautiful!"

M/N kinda went overboard with the makeup.....

Tengen and M/N took the disguised Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke (Who currently went by Sumiko, Zenko, and Inoko respectively) to the Tokito house to hopefully sell one of them, Tengen posing as their seller and M/N posing as his assistant. The chaperones of the tokito house were.....shocked when they saw the three "girls", the makeup combined with their awkward faces serving to their displeasure of them. "They sure are....quite homely girls, aren't they?" The female chaperone said, the male chaperone having to rubbed his eyes to make sure that what he was seeing in front of him was accurate.

"No, I don't think we can...." "isn't there any way you can reconsider? Under your training, I'm sure they can turn into diamonds." Tengen smiled at the female chaperone , the female chaperone blushing while the male chaperone tried to turn down Tengen's offer. However, The female chaperone said "I guess taking in one wouldn't be a problem!" Before he was able to, smiling with the blush still on her face. "Then, please take one." Tengen told her, M/N noticing that sparkles were coming around him. "Dad's really good at this...." M/N thought, wondering if he would be that attractive when he grew up.

The genes in the Uzui family must carry on to him....right?

"I think we'll take the one in the middle!" The female chaperone said, pointing to "Sumiko", "She looks very obedient!". "I'll work my hardest!" "Sumiko" exclaimed, Tengen waving goodbye to "her" while walking away with M/N, "Zenko", and "Inoko". "You guys are beyond hopeless!" Tengen told "Zenko" and "Inoko", angrily looking at the two as they walked down the district to the next house, "I can barely give you away!". "Is it my fault?" M/N asked, a small frown on his face while Tengen softly patted his head. "No, you did great with their appearances." Tengen said, softly smiling at him in order to cheer him up. "Zenko" just glared at Tengen, mad that he had to put their makeup in the hands of a 9 year old instead of doing it himself.

"Hey! A bunch of people are swarming around over there!" "Inoko" said, pointing to a crowd that had just formed. The four went over to it, seeing that the crowd formed over a beautiful young woman adorned in a gorgeous kimono. M/N blushed when he saw the woman, his heart racing as he pulled on Tengen's Yukata to get his attention. "Who is that?" M/N asked, Tengen smiling and telling him "That's Tokito's house's Koinatsu Oiran. She is the highest ranking courtesan and is going off to meet her client.". "This is called the procession of courtesans." M/N smiled, Tengen noticing this and asking him "Did my son somehow fall in love?". M/N snapped back to reality, shaking his head and saying "No! I just think she's pretty!". Though, when M/N went back to looking at Koinatsu, he saw her look at him for a moment and smile at him.

M/N's face went a tomato red, Tengen holding back a laugh and patting his head. "Excuse me, sir." A voice said from behind the two, Tengen and M/N looking back to see a woman with "Inoko", "I'll be taking this girl to my house, if that's all right.". "Hey, so you're" "The Ogimoto house chaperone." "If she's caught the eye of the Ogimoto house, I couldn't be more thankful!" As "Inoko" started to walk off with the chaperone, Tengen waved goodbye to "Her" and exclaimed "Take care of yourself, Inoko!". M/N looked over at "Zenko", thinking to himself "So that just leaves...." while seeing Tengen give "Zenko" an annoyed face. "Oh...." M/N let out, putting his hands together for a prayer.

"DON'T PITY ME!"

While it took a while, Tengen managed to charm the Kyogoku house chaperone to take "Zenko"......

As Tengen and M/N walked beside each other, M/N yawned and began to rub his droopy eyes. "Tired?" Tengen asked, M/N nodding and extending his arms out so that he could pick him up. Tengen was just about to do so, but a chaperone for another house came over to him. "Excuse me, but may I take that little girl with me?" The chaperone asked, Tengen shocked to hear that he asked to him. "Little girl?" Tengen asked, soon realizing that the chaperone meant M/N. Thanks to M/N long (H/C) hair, he was mistaken for a girl by most people. "I'm sorry, but he's not for sale." Tengen told them, taking M/N into his arms as he laid his head on his shoulder.

"Please, I'll pay you." "I said.....he's not for sale." The chaperone didn't seem to care for this, making Tengen glare at them so that they could leave. The chaperone quickly nodded and walked away from them, the glare that Tengen gave them still engraved in their mind. "Dad, who was that?" M/N asked, Tengen pressing a kiss to his forehead and saying "Nobody....". Tengen then walked back to the place they were staying at, going into their room and laying him on the mattress. "Get some sleep....I'm going scouting for a while." Tengen said, putting blankets over M/N. Though, before he left, M/N grabbed his hand and asked him "Stay?".

Tengen went quiet for a moment, but eventually smiled and laid down next to him. "Goodnight...." Tengen whispered, kissing M/N as he slowly closed his eyes. "Goodnight....I love you." M/N whispered back, going fast asleep while Tengen watched him with a small smile.

CHAPTER 6

Tengen carried M/N on his shoulders as the two made their way to the butterfly mansion, Tengen having said that they needed to make a stop there before they go to the entertainment district. M/N laid his head on top of Tengen's, asking his father "Are there a lot of people in the entertainment district?". Tengen looked up at M/N with a smile, telling him "Yep! And you can get easily lost if you don't pay attention to where you are going.". M/N whined a bit, nervous about this new piece of information given to him. M/N has never set foot outside demon slayer hq, so going to the entertainment district made him both excited and scared.

Tengen noticed this and took ahold of M/N's small hand, squeezing it in comfort. "Just stay with me....I'll protect you." Tengen said, M/N smiling softly with a small blush on his face. The two then reached the entrance of the butterfly mansion, Tengen putting M/N down and telling him "Wait here for a bit, I'll be right back.", pressing a small kiss to his forehead. As Tengen went into the mansion, M/N started to Suck on his thumb while waiting for him to be done with whatever he was doing. After a few minutes passed, M/N heard footsteps approaching and looked over to see a teen boy carrying a box on his back.

The boy stopped in his tracks when he saw M/N, M/N taking his thumb out of his mouth and shyly looking away from the boy. The boy simply half heartedly smiled, going over to M/N as he slightly stepped back away from him. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you." The boy said, M/N twiddling his fingers in nervousness. "My name's Tanjiro, what's yours?" ".....M/N" Tanjiro kneeled down in front of M/N, asking him "Why is someone so young doing here? Are you lost?". M/N was about to answer, but him and Tanjiro soon heard a girl's voice yell "Please let us go!". Tanjiro and M/N went into the mansion, where they saw Tengen carrying two girls while being yanked all around by three others.

M/N recognized the the girls Tengen was carrying as Aoi and Naho, who,were the assistants to Shinobu that resided in the butterfly mansion. M/N also recognized Kanao, Sumi, and Kiyo as the ones preventing Tengen from taking them. "Dad!" M/N called out, Tengen looking at him with wide eyes, "What are you doing?". "He's kidnapping them!" Kiyo cried out, Tengen glaring at her, "Please save them!". Tanjiro than started to run over to Tengen, M/N saying "Wait! Don't hurt him!". Tanjiro didn't hear him, only attempting to headbutt him. However, Tengen managed to jump out of the way, going on top of the roof of the entrance.

"Do you really think I fall victim to one of your pissant headbutts?" Tengen asked Tanjiro, still carrying Aoi and Naho on his shoulders. "Let Aoi and Naho go!" Tanjiro told him, Tengen's expression turning to that of anger as he said "Who the hell do you think you're talking to!?". "I'm your superior! I'm a Hashira, dammit!" M/N looked up Tengen, asking him "Why are you even kidnapping them in the first place?". Tengen tensed uo a bit, now realizing how much of a villain he appeared to his son. "I.....We need them for when we go to the entertainment district!" Tengen told him, still going on with his plan. "But Naho isn't a member of the corps! Can't you see she's not wearing the uniform?" Sumi said, Tengen taking a look at Naho and seeing that it was true.

"Well, looks like I Don't need you." Tengen said, dropping Naho in which she was eventually caught by Tanjiro. "How could you do such a thing, you inhuman brute?!" Tanjiro angrily asked, Tengen rolling his eyes and saying "For now, I just going to take this one.". "C'mon, M/N." Tengen ordered, about to jump off the roof with Aoi but noticed that M/N stood still. "No!" M/N said, folding his arms across his chest. "What do you mean "no"?" "Let her go first!" M/N puffed his cheeks, Tengen getting irked at his disobedience. "Listen here young man! Do you want to see your mothers again or not?" Tengen asked, M/N sticking his tongue out at him.

Tengen was about to go down and pull M/N by the arm so that they could leave, but Tanjiro stood in front of him and said "We'll go in place of Aoi!". "Wait...""We'll?" Tengen thought, soon seeing two boys go beside Tanjiro. One of the boys was blonde haired while the other wore an boar head. M/N grew nervous around the new people around him, though Tanjiro looked back at him and gave him a smile to show that everything would be okay. M/N smiled back, turning his attention to Tengen. Tengen could only sigh and smirk, saying "Alright....but I'm only doing this because of M/N,"

Tengen stood in front of Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke, M/N hiding behind him,while he placed his hand on his head. "He's gigantic....." Zenitsu thought, realizing just how small M/N was compared to him. "Umm....may I ask who the little boy next to you is?" Tanjiro asked, M/N peaking a bit as Tengen said "My son.". Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inousuke could only widen their eyes, shocked to find out someone as egotistical as Tengen could have someone so shy related to him. M/N waved a bit at them, Tengen smiled at M/N, playfully ruffling his hair as he said "He'll be coming along with us.".

"HIM? BUT HE'S SO YOUNG!" Zenitsu yelled, Tengen glaring zt him and punching him in his stomach. "That's why if something happens to him, I'll kill all three of you." Tengen muttered, Picking M/N up in his arms. As he put him on his shoulders, he turned around and said "Now then, follow me.". Tengen quickly started to run with M/N still on his shoulders, M/N looking back and waving at Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inousuke with an innocent smile. The three quickly started to follow soon after, M/N laughing and laying his head on Tengen's,

Tengen smiled, though he couldn't shake his fear away that something awful was to happen to M/N when they got to the district.......

CHAPTER 5

"Dad! Look, I'm flying!" M/N exclaimed, being held up in the air by Tengen. Tengen smiled, tossing M/N and catching him soon after, M/N happily laughing all the way. "Again!" M/N said, clapping his hands as Tengen chuckled and tossed him once more. As Tengen caught him, M/N started to cough slightly which made Tengen widen his eyes and put him down. "M/N...." Tengen let out, kneeling down to his son's height while he covered his coughs with his elbow. After M/N coughed one last time, Tengen cupped his face and pressed a kiss to his forehead. "I'm sorry..." Tengen said, M/N smiling with a blush.

M/N then jumped into Tengen's arms, causing Tengen to stumble and fall onto the grass. Tengen and M/N laughed in unison, the two laying on the grass next to one another. "Dad, I love you." M/N said with a smile, Tengen caressing his face and saying, "I love you more.". As the sun started to set, Tengen kissed M/N again and sat up, sadly smiling. "I have to go now...." Tengen said, M/N sitting up and grabbing his hand tightly. "No...." "No worries...I'll see you again soon." "But I want to be with you forever!" M/N wrapped his arms around Tengen's neck, hugging him while trying to hold back his tears.

Tengen frowned, hugging M/N back and letting him nuzzle his neck. "Please....don't leave me." M/N whispered, Tengen placing his forehead on top of his. "I will never leave you......." Tengen whispered back, kissing M/N one last time before standing up and beginning to walk away. "Dad....don't go!" M/N cried out, his tears falling while he stood up himself and ran after Tengen. However, M/N ended up tripping and falling on his knees, helplessly watching his father walk away from him and out of his sight.

"DON'T GO!"

"Please....." M/N muttered, tears slowly falling down his face as he slept beside Tengen. Tengen heard this, waking up and looking over at M/N to see the tears. "Dad....I don't want to be alone." M/N muttered again, Tengen's eyes softening as he took M/N's small hand and squeezed it. "Shh....I'm right here." Tengen whispered, pressing a kiss on M/N's forehead to comfort him. M/N sniffled, Tengen smiling a bit while he watched M/N sleep.

"I'm not going anywhere......"

For the first few days, Tengen and M/N received letters via Kasugai Crow by Hinatsuru, Suma, And Makio. The letters were sent individually, and they were mainly updates about how their mission was going. Whenever they got a letter, M/N would always send a letter back, wanting his mothers to know that he and Tengen were alright and were waiting for their return. Though, after the 12th day, the letters from Hinatsuru, Suma, and Makio stopped being sent.

M/N was worried sick for his mothers, scared that they stopped sending the letters due to the worst happening to them. Tengen hated seeing his son like this and decided to take it upon himself to investigate what was going on. However, when he told M/N about this, M/N's fear only increased. "You can't go!" M/N said, Tengen softly smiling and kneeling down to his height. "What if you go missing too!" "Don't worry, bud. I'll be back before you know it." Tengen ruffled M/N's hair, but M/N only pouted and looked down to his feet.

"....I don't want you to go." M/N mumbled, Tengen sighing and lifting M/N's chin up so that he was looking at him straight in his eyes. "If I don't go, then your mothers might never come back." Tengen told him, noticing tears form in M/N's eyes. "Then....I'll go with you!" Tengen was taken back by what M/N said, seeing that he was dead serious on it. "No." "But-" "I'm not letting you go out there and get hurt!" M/N stepped back a bit, Tengen realizing what he said and slowly embracing him. "Hey.....don't feel bad." Tengen said, looking down at M/N who had a small frown. "It's just.....I'm scared what might happen to you if I'm not there with you." Tengen told him, giving him a quick kiss.

"....." M/N stayed silent, cuddling into Tengen's chest while Tengen sighed and sadly smiled. "Alright.....you can come with me." Tengen said, M/N looking up and smiling brightly. "Really?" "Yes, but stay by my side for the entire time, okay?" M/N nodded, hugging Tengen and kissing him on his cheek. Tengen chuckled, rubbing M/N's back with a soft smile.

CHAPTER 4

"Do you really have to go?" M/N asked, hugging Hinatsuru's legs while looking up at her with his big (E/C) eyes. Hinatsuru softly smiled at him, bending down and saying "We'll only be gone for a few days.". M/N frowned, looking down to his feet as Hinatsuru pressed a small kiss on his forehead. "We'll write everyday to you, okay?" Hinatsuru told him, M/N nodding which made Hinatsuru lovingly caress his face. "Hey, why can't we get some love?" Makio asked, her and Suma standing behind Hinatsuru, slightly jealous that she was getting all the attention of their son. M/N sadly giggled, going over to them and giving them both hugs. "I'll miss you...." M/N said, Makio smiling while Suma tried to hold back her tears.

"M/N!" Suma cried out, failing to keep the tears back and letting them all fall. She hugged M/N back, M/N letting his own tears fall and nuzzling her neck. Tengen, who was watching the farewell, went over to the two and patted M/N's head. "It's okay.....you'll see her again." Tengen whispered, Suma releasing M/N from the hug. "Don't die out there, alright?" Tengen said to his wives, the three nodding. Tengen smiled at them, giving each of them goodbye kisses. "We'll send a letter when we get there." Hinatsuru told Tengen, her, Suma, and Makio beginning to wave goodbye to their husband and son. Tengen waved goodbye back, watching the three walk out of sight.

Tengen looked down to see M/N rubbing his eyes, sighing and kneeling down to his height. “Hey…I thought you weren’t a baby?” Tengen playfully asked, M/N not bothering to shoot him a glare due to trying to wipe the tears away. Tengen noticed this, bringing M/N into his arms and hugging him while rubbing his back in comfort.

“Alright,, we’re here.” Tengen said, carrying a sleeping M/N on his back. M/N woke up and looked at where Tengen brought him, seeing that they were in front of an headstone. Written on the headstone was “Uzui Family Grave”, M/N widening his eyes when he realized this. As Tengen put M/N down, He started to pray in front of the headstone, M/N quickly doing so as well. Tengen chuckled, sensing that M/N was praying with him. After the two finished praying, M/N looked up at Tengen and asked him “Dad…..is this your family?”.

Tengen nodded, telling his son “All my siblings are gone…..I usually come here whenever I need some peace and quiet.”. M/N took his hand in his small one, squeezing it tightly in comfort. Tengen sadly smiled at this, Muttering under his breath. “You’re such a good boy….”. As tears started to slowly go down his face, Tengen wiped them and looked at M/N with love in his eyes. “I don’t deserve you….” Tengen whispered, M/N slightly smiling. The two than shared a hug, M/N nuzzling his face into Tengen’s neck which made him snort and hold M/N close to him.

M/N sat on the grass as he carefully wrapped greenery along a wire, humming softly with a big smile as he did. Tengen sat beside him, happily watching his son affix the greenery on the wire. "Dad, do you love me?" M/N asked, Tengen chuckling a bit and telling him "Of course I do.". "Why would you ask something so silly?" ".....I just wanted to make sure!" M/N finished with the greenery when he said that, starting to pluck Baby's breath flowers and attach them to it. Tengen smiled, M/N putting the last Baby's breath that he plucked onto the greenery. "Finished!" M/N exclaimed, showing his father the flower crown that he made.

"Good job~" Tengen said, clapping his hands as M/N stood up and put the flower crown on his head. Tengen blushed, tensing up as M/N giggled and told him "It's for you!". "M/N...." Tengen let out, a small smile creeping its way onto his face. "Do you like it?" M/N asked, Tengen nodding and bringing him into a hug. " I love everything that you make for me." Tengen said, giving M/N a kiss while M/N snuggled into his chest. Soon, Tengen released M/N from his hug, cupping his face and caressing it. "M/N.....have I told you how special you are to me?" Tengen asked, M/N shaking his head which made Tengen snicker a bit.

"Well....you're the most important thing to me." Tengen told him, M/N smiling and saying, "You're the most important thing to me too!". Tengen smiled, M/N crawling onto his lap and sitting on it as he held him close. "Glad to hear that" Tengen said, pressing a kiss on M/N's forehead. M/N looked up, starting to play with the pale blue gemstones that hung from Tengen's headdress. Tengen chuckled at this, muttering "9 years old and you still act like a baby....".

M/N blushed in embarrassment at this, yelling at Tengen "I'm not a baby!". Tengen smirked, saying to M/N "You're still one in my eyes~" while M/N angrily pouted and folded his arms across his chest. "C'mon, it was a joke." Tengen said, poking M/N's cheek to get a smile from him. M/N at first kept his mad face, but finally smiled when he felt the 7th poke. "I love you, M/N." Tengen told his son, M/N sitting up and wrapping his arms around his neck. "I love you too, dad." M/N said, Tengen returning the hug.

Soon, a ladybug landed on M/N's finger, M/N smiling and showing it to Tengen. "Dad, make a wish!" M/N exclaimed, Tengen chuckling at the young boy's excitement. As the ladybug flew away, M/N asked Tengen "Did you wish for anything?". Tengen nodded, patting M/N's head and telling him "I wished that my son would never grow taller and instead stay small for the rest of his life". M/N glared at him, Tengen chuckling and saying "Okay, my real wish is that......

You'll still be mine no matter what happens."

"Hey dad? Can I tell you something?" M/N asked, Tengen nodding to let him know that he could. M/N took a deep breath, saying "Don't laugh at me for this.... but I always had dreams of being in a field with you.". "A field?" "Yeah, and we would always play together without my chest hurting!" Tengen saw M/N's sparkling eyes and big smile, smiling a bit and telling him "That's one very flashy dream!". M/N nodded but frowned slightly and looked down to his feet as he said "Yeah...but at the end of every dream, you would always say goodbye to me and leave me alone in the field.".

Tengen's expression softened, taking M/N's hand and squeezing it tightly. "I don't want you to leave me alone...." M/N muttered, Tengen softly smiling at him and saying "M/N, I'll never leave you.". "You won't?" "I promise......you're my son After all." M/N smiled, Tengen pressing a small kiss to his forehead and whispering, "We will always be together......". M/N then yawned, laying on his bed while asking his father "Can you sleep with me?". Tengen nodded, laying down next to him which made M/N smile happily.

"Goodnight, dad...." "Goodnight, buddy~"

CHAPTER 2

When M/N reached age 8, his asthma attacks started to become more and more frequent. Because of this, Tengen had M/N stay indoors with one of his wives watching him whenever he was out and forbade him to do any physically challenging activity. Tengen was afraid that one of M/N's asthma attacks would end up being severe, especially since the triggers were little things such as slightly tripping or breathing in dry air.

While M/N understood his father's overprotectiveness, he still wished that he was able to play outside without having someone have a close eye on him with a time limit on how long he should be out. M/N wanted to be normal, so that he wouldn't have to be paranoid over when his next attack was. They hurt him so much, the only thing that comforted him during those times being Tengen, who would always try and help him stay calm during an attack. Even then, M/N didn't want his asthma to define, as he wanted to grow up and become a demon slayer just like Tengen.

He was aware of how dangerous it was, but he didn't care. He wanted to protect his father just like how he protected him. Currently, M/N was at the training area, having snuck away from home without his mothers knowing. M/N knew that Tengen wouldn't train him, so M/N took it upon himself to work on his swordsmanship. M/N used a wooden stick as a sword, Tengen having banned weapons from being anywhere near him, and would hit it on the practice dummy in hopes that he was improving. M/N believed that if he proved to Tengen that he could fight, Tengen would let him play outside for longer periods of time.

As M/N hit the dummy with his tick over and over again, he felt a hand pat his head, looking up to see his father with a smirk on his face. "Dad!" M/N exclaimed, stepping away in nervousness when he realized that he was caught. "I....it's not what it looks like!" M/N told him, Tengen chuckling and looking over at the wooden stick that was on the ground. "You were really using that?" Tengen asked, M/N nodding and turning his attention to his feet.

Tengen only smiled, picking it up and handing it back to M/N. "First of all, you're holding it wrong." Tengen said, M/N tilting his head in confusion. "Look, you have to hold it like this." Tengen made M/N stand up straight, putting his hands to the bottom of the stick and having him hold it like that. M/N blushed, Tengen putting his hands on his hips while he said "Okay, now hit it.". M/N gulped, Tengen looking at him with soft eyes and saying, "No worries, I got you.". M/N smiled, swinging the stick at the dummy and hitting it, making a small slightly visible slash on the dummy.

"Dad! Look!" M/N happily said, Tengen nodding and telling him "See? Much better posture.". "See if you can knock the dummy's head over." M/N began to swing at the dummy multiple times, the dummy getting more slightly visible slashes thanks to this. Just then, M/N swung it with more force, causing him to stumble a bit and fall backwards. Right when he was about to hit the ground, Tengen caught him in his arms. "Be careful, buddy~" Tengen said, M/N giggling and coughing a bit as his chest started to tighten.

Tengen noticed this, quickly standing M/N up and rubbing his back. "You okay?" Tengen asked, M/N nodding and hugging him. "You're the best, dad!" M/N said, a big smile on his face. Tengen tensed up, but he returned the hug and smiled softly. "There you are!" A voice yelled, Tengen and M/N looking over to see Makio, Suma, and Hinatsuru going over to them. Makio had a stern expression on her face, her arms crossed as she glared at M/N. "What did we say about running off without telling us we're you're going?" Makio asked, Tengen picking M/N up with M/N hiding his face in his chest due to fear over his mother's anger.

"You're in so much trouble!" "Don't get mad, I was with him, so he wasn't alone." M/N looked up at Tengen, who gave him a wink to show that he was saving him from a punishment. Makio sighed, Hinatsuru going to M/N's side and telling him "Just tell us if you're going out, as you had Suma worried sick.". M/N and Tengen saw that Suma was wiping her tears away, a snot bubble in her nose which she didn't seem to notice. "I'm sorry, mommy." M/N said to Suma, Suma running to him and wrapping him in a big hug. M/N smiled, cuddling into Suma as Tengen, Makio, and Hinatsuru watched with amused smiles.

CHAPTER 1

Tengen laid on top of a hill with his hands behind his head, watching the sun above slowly rise in the sky. As he rested, he heard the sounds of rustling coming from a nearby bush, making him sit up and turn his attention at the bush. The bush rustled again, Tengen smirking due to already knowing who was in it. "You can come out now...." Tengen said, the bush having stopped rustling and whoever was hiding it going silent. Tengen just chuckled, getting up and going over to the bush. Once he was standing in front of it, he looked inside and was greeted by his son jumping out of the bush and into his arms.

"Boo!" M/N exclaimed, Tengen laughing at this while he lost his balance and fell down onto the grass. M/N smiled at his father, happily saying "Got you!" as Tengen chuckled and told him "No, I already knew you were in there, so you didn't scare.". M/N's dropped his smile and frowned, looking down and pouting slightly which made Tengen press a kiss to his forehead. "But hey.... you at least tried." Tengen said, the smile returning on M/N's face as he crawled off Tengen. Tengen than sat up, asking M/N "Anyways, what's up?".

M/N showed him a small origami crane in his hands, telling him "Look!". Tengen smiled at this, ruffling M/N's hair and said "Well, look at you~". "Miss Shinobu helped me with it!" M/N said, giving the origami crane to Tengen. Tengen blushed, looking down at the origami crane in his hand and asking "Wait....you're giving it to me?". M/N nodded, saying "I made it for you....so that whenever you go out on a mission, I'll be with you.". Tengen froze for a moment, before smiling at M/N and taking him into his arms.

"Thanks, kiddo~" Tengen told him, M/N giggling as he felt Tengen kiss him. Just then, Tengen's Kasugai crow flew over to them and perched itself onto M/N's head. M/N blushed in embarrassment over this, Tengen snorting at this and asking his crow "Need something from me?". The crow squawked that Kagaya needed his presence, Tengen shocked that he was wanted. "Are you leaving again on a mission?" M/N asked, Tengen shaking his head and patting his head. "No, I promise that I'll be here all day." Tengen told him, a reassuring smile on his face, "Master just wants to see me for a bit."

M/N frowned slightly and nodded, Tengen sighing and cupping his face so that he could give him one last kiss. "I love you; you know that?" Tengen said, M/N softly smiling which caused Tengen to smile back. "Go play, I'll be back soon." Tengen said, M/N getting up and waving goodbye to Tengen as he ran down the hill and back home. Tengen waved goodbye to him as well, watching M/N run out of sight.

"Master....you wanted me?" Tengen asked, kneeling down in front of Kagaya. Kagaya nodded, saying to Tengen "I've been wanting to ask you something.... about your son.". Tengen widened his eyes, scared over what the question was going to be. "Have you been thinking of training your son now that he's of age?" Kagaya asked, Tengen biting his lip and looking down while muttering "....No.". "Why not? As an hashira, it's expected that he would follow in your footsteps and become a demon slayer himself." "It's just.... I don't want him to get hurt.".

"His asthma.....It gets worse as he ages." Tengen looked back up at Kagaya, noticing that he had a small smile on his face. "I understand, you're afraid that his asthma might get in the way." Kagaya told him, Tengen nodding to show that Kagaya was correct on what his fear was. "Why do you ask me this?" Tengen asked, Kagaya telling him "Because that's what M/N wants to be when he grows up.". "He...wants to be a demon slayer?" "He says that he wants to be like you and protect people like how you protect him.... It's honestly cute.". "Is he aware that he can't become one?" Kagaya asked, Tengen going silent before saying "No.....I haven't broken it to him."

Kagaya nodded, telling Tengen "Do what is best for him.... sometimes it's the difficult choices that we have to do to keep our loved ones safe.". Tengen nodded, Kagaya saying that he was dismissed. As Tengen left, he thought about what Kagaya told him about M/N.

"Why? Why does he want to be one?"

M/N was fast asleep on his bed when he heard his door be gently knocked on. M/N woke up, sitting up and rubbing his eyes as the door opened to reveal Tengen. "Hey...." Tengen said, M/N looking at him and saying "Hi, dad.". Tengen smiled, sitting on the bedside while M/N wrapped his arms around his neck and hugged him. "M/N....you want to be a demon slayer.... right?" Tengen asked, M/N nodding and smiling as he said "Yeah! So that I can fight alongside you!".

"Why? You know how dangerous it is...." M/N noticed Tengen's frown, Tengen muttering "Don't you remember that Rengoku lost his life....". M/N looked down and started to twiddle his fingers, not knowing what he should say. "I don't want to lose you......I already lost so many." Tengen told him, M/N kissing him and saying "But....I don't want to lose you too.". Tengen looked at him, M/N telling him "I just want to protect you.... like you do to me and so many others.". Tengen chuckled, bringing M/N into a hug and letting him cuddle into his chest.

"You're such a good boy...." Tengen said, M/N giggling as Tengen pressed him a kiss. "I love you...." Tengen whispered, M/N saying with a smile back to him "I love you too, dad.". Tengen smiled, hugging M/N tighter while he thought to himself "I.....I promise.....

That nothing will ever come to harm you......."

PROLOGUE

It was the middle of the night when Tengen heard whimpering coming from M/N's room......

Tengen was fast asleep with his wives sleeping beside him, but the soft whimpering of his son made him groggily wake up. As he was about to get off the bed, he felt someone grab ahold of his hand. Tengen looked back to see that it was Makio, who was half awake when she asked, "Do you really have to go?". "He's my son, I need to check up on him." Tengen told her, Makio's droopy eyes about to close as she muttered "He could just be having a bad dream....". Tengen sighed, getting up from the bed and saying, "I'm just going to make sure he's alright.". Makio tiredly nodded, going back to sleep as Tengen left the bedroom

Once he was standing in front of M/N's bedroom door, he heard the sound of slight coughing coming from inside. "M/N, you okay in there?" Tengen asked, slowly opening the door and entering the room. Tengen than saw that M/N was still laying on his bed, but he had a tight grip on his blanket and wheezed as he tried to breath. M/N looked over at Tengen, coughing again and covering his mouth with his arm. "Oh no...." Tengen mumbled, knowing what was happening with M/N,

He quickly went over to M/N, picking him up in his arms and softly cradling him as M/N put his hand over his tight chest. "Just slowly breath in and out...." Tengen whispered, M/N trying to do just that while his father held him close. This only made his chest hurt, M/N whining which caused Tengen to press a small kiss to his forehead. "Want to go outside?" Tengen asked, M/N nodding with tears forming in his eyes. Tengen softly smiled at him, exiting their home so that M/N could have some fresh air.

Tengen went to cherry blossom tree that was on a small hill and sat down under it, M/N still in his arms while he took his small hand in his and squeezed it tightly. "Shhh...Shhh, I'm here." Tengen whispered, M/N's breathing beginning to slow down. The tightness in his chest also began to go away, M/N cuddling into Tengen's chest as he wiped his tears away. Tengen slightly chuckled, placing his forehead on top of M/N's as he asked, "Feeling better?". M/N nodded, Tengen cupping his face and gently kissing him.

"Alright....let's get you to bed." Tengen told him, standing up and carrying him back to the house. As he softly hummed a melody to M/N in hopes that it will help make him fall asleep again, M/N started to play with a strand on his white hair and asked, "Can you sleep with me?". Tengen looked down at his son, seeing that M/N's big (E/C) eyes were staring straight into his own maroon ones. Tengen snorted, nodding and going into the bedroom.

After laying M/N back down on the bed, he laid beside him and made sure he was facing him. "You'll be okay.... right?" Tengen asked, wanting to make sure that M/N's asthma won't act up again when they were asleep. M/N slowly nodded, Tengen smiling and caressing his face while saying "Good....". "Just remember to slowly breath when you feel a tightness in your chest." Tengen said, M/N soon closing his eyes and falling asleep. Tengen chuckled, giving him one final kiss and falling asleep beside him.

"Daddy....what do you think heaven is like?" M/N asked, sitting beside Tengen while he drew on the dirt circles with a wooden stick. Tengen looked at him with wide eyes, having not expected someone his age to ask that. M/N was just 5 years old, so he shouldn't be worrying about stuff like that. As M/N continued to draw on the dirt, Tengen asked him "Why do you want to know?".

M/N went silent, pulling his knees close to his chest and putting his stick down. Tengen sighed, rubbing M/N's back as he thought about his answer. "Well, I think it's a wonderful place as nobody can hurt you anymore when you go." Tengen said, a small smile creeping onto his face. "So....nothing will hurt anymore when I go?" M/N asked, Tengen turning his attention to the ground while muttering "Yeah....". "But promise me you won't go until far in the future." Tengen said, putting his hands on M/N's shoulders with a serious expression on his face.

M/N looked down and twiddle his fingers, Tengen telling him "I don't want you to go early...not when there's still so much that I still have to do with you.". M/N wrapped his arms around Tengen's neck, hugging him tightly which made Tengen hug him back. "I promise..." M/N said, Tengen smiling and hugging him tighter.

"I love you...."
