The things is Castiel's story is a tragedy in many ways, any part you pick up it's a fall
May it be pre series, or stopping the apocalypse or the civil war, even the part where he becomes a Father
He is someone who has been manipulated and used and everyone just keeps chipping him away
When we meet him, he is presented as this outwardly, powerful being who everyone is scared of, but you meet him and you realise he is all that but also curious and facinated by the world the around him, it's new to him in many ways, and he still cares about it.
And he has opinions that don't necessarily go with his family but he isn't afraid to state them. He cares about his siblings, he has a relationship of understanding with most of them and mourns them as much as he can.
He judges Dean not based on how dean treats him but what dean does for others.
Castiel is someone who sees his own world fall apart with the rest of it and even when the world for others is saved he can never get back what he lost.
He looses his home, his family, the relationships he had for millions of years, he losses his powers. Like imagine, and I lot don't understand that it's not Cas + powers, he was created with them, he didn't just loose his ability to do some fancy tricks he lost what is equivalent to lossing your senses, your limbs.
Scratch mourning, he isn't even allowed to state the extent of his loss. He is only allowed grief and anger and hurt if it's for the Winchesters.
In Monster at the end of this Book, deanakes it very clear their relationship can only be transactional, he tell Cas if Cas doesn't help his he will never return the favour, and you know what he does after cas helps, and keeps doing for more than a decade he doesn't return the favour
Castiel asked Dean, begged him for trust, for support, more than once but he was mocked and rediculed and told loud and clear that he doesn't get anything, not even basic decency
Dean didn't convince Cas to reble, he ordered it and then got angry because Castiel took more than 30 seconds to give up everything he had known since before the beginning of time.
The Winchesters constantly prove Cas gets a place in the metaphorical table as long as he can bring something, give somthing
The Gadreel excuse is funny, because Gadreel told Dean, Cas couldn't stay. Throwing Cas out with nothing, cutting off communication with him, was Dean's decision, his choice. Because he couldn't spare a second thought for Cas
He learned that he couldn't trust memory, that it's had been violated, he had been violated. They took his memories from him. Do you wonder if it was angels who fought alongside him that took him Naomi when he disobeyed, or if others had to go through lobotomies because of him? Because he asked them to fight with him? Do you think cas did?
Castiel had to watch father look at him and not see him, he had to watch his father come and fight for Earth and Winchesters and not even think about angels.
He had to watch the man he loved point a gun at son's head, he had to watch his father, who turned out to nothing but a cruel, egoestical, uncaring puppeteer, kill his son. He had to watch his son's face being twisted into mockery towards him by a demon, he had burn his son
But it doesn't matter, right? Why would it? What's Castiel's grief, his pain, none of matters right?
Cause at the end of the day the only thing his life and death can be about is Dean Winchester
Because making a disabled, traumatized and suicidal character die, and be happy about it is best damn thing you can do to them

Oh God Sam is irritating
Mark Sheppard owns every second he is onthe screen and it's delightful
The demon calling beating dean therupatic is soo right
The Winchesters are right about being afraid of them, they are arrogant, selfish, ungrateful, uncaring (even more so towards anyont not human)
I watched this episode only for Crowely and it's so worth it. Like he has gotten himself in a fix, but he still moves all the pieces around and isn't afraid of doing something absolutely batshit to get what he wants

Garrison as physical space
According to Wikipedia, "A garrison is any body of troops stationed in a particular location, originally to guard it. The term now often applies to certain facilities that constitute a military base or fortified military headquarters."
I've been wondering about what Castiel (and Anna and Balthazar Uriel etc)'s garrison on earth was like as actual physical facility, but I came up empty. In S9 we saw Bartholomew's compound that Cas took over but it was more like a corporate office (the show very much portrayed both angels and demons as suit-wearing corporate drones, using corporations as stand-in for evil and creepy power but I digress). It was unsatisfying and didn't count for me.
Got a few thoughts recently below, still very limited, and as usual I ramble on. File under "nobody needs to read".
Speculations about what Castiel's garrison may look like:
In the show the angels frequently used abandoned human structures for their purpose (early seasons anyway), so I think for their garrisons similarly they would take over large abandoned structures around the world (cathedral? castle? skyscraper? industrial warehouse? Transportation hub? Nuclear plant? Shopping mall? likely "all of the above").
The exteriors are heavily warded, so that humans can't see them (or forget it right after seeing it); and of course demons can't even approach one. The interior of any building gets instantly renovated to garrison specs by their grace.
I like these buildings for the purpose (Kimbell and the modern art museum in forth worth Tx).
I think the garrison is like, a hidden dimension of etheric plane on earth. So the angels would be able to exit their vessels and stay there as their true forms in between deployments. It's not a logical hc but I just feel sad that they have to stay on earth crammed into a tiny cage all the time.
In the photos above, the stairs next to the windows could be their version of water cooler gathering place for gossip (and jokes by Uriel). Or another place Cas would watch the earthly world, the water and the grass and the birds and the humans on the other side of the windows. And all that could be happening right in the pictures, because they were all just wavelengths of light while in the garrison.
Above left could be the armory; above right could be the infirmary.
Did the angels have private spaces (like bedrooms, though they wouldn't need to sleep) within the garrison? Seems unlikely, but if not that would be so sad? (I don't know what a "room" would be like for an angel anyway...giant crystal prism? haven't thought through the physics)
And then after the angels are no longer using it (killed off by Uriel or otherwise recalled to heaven), the space is abandoned again, but the warding remains so it stayed cloaked to the humans, however it's no longer actively maintained, so it starts to deteriorate, and nature reclaims it, perhaps even stimulated by the residual angelic energy, and trees and brambles start to grow all over the interior.
(Basically there was this whole trend of "abandoned and overgrown places" on the internet and I just thought they would be perfect as locations of former angel garrisons.)
So when Castiel came back years later to an empty garrison

it is like. a little wild that in crowley's second episode they establish that his betrayal of lucifer comes with the potential consequence of being tortured in hell for eternity. unironically what a good way to establish right out of the gate how insane crowley is as a character and the risks he's willing to take with his plans
dean's like ooh he's a demon can we really trust him? he just betrayed what was essentially his god. even if crowley had any regrets about giving them the colt he sunk cost fallacied himself so hard he'd be fucked for all of time if they failed anyway. kind of interesting that out of all of them the demon was the one who had the most to lose

I did watch 99 problems but I don't much to say about excpet I would have liked to see later seasons Cas get drunk sometime

I am going to corp that scene and use it as a coping mechanism
I feel like SPN forgets Sam is the main character midway through the season and force the reminder of themselves and everyone else in last few episodes
I am not in the metal space to dwel of the scene of Cas bashing angels and himself and I don't know if I will do it when I watch 5x21 either

5x19 Hammer of Gods
I haven't watched this episode, I never will.
I knew about it, but I first time I read the plot and transcript when I was ploting Cauldron of Ink Verse. I logged out that day, and I was just so angry,
There are two Hindu gods in this episode, lord Ganesha and goddess Kali and lord krishna is mentioned.
I am religious, my faith may not drive me, but it keeps me afloat when things get bad.
Kali Mata is an avatar of goddess Parvati. She is firece, she is symbol of woman power and anger. When Maa Parvati went on a rampage as Kali Mata, no one knew how to stop her, God's were scared of stepping in her way, until until lord Shiva took form of a child and appealed to Maa Parvati.
The way she is presented in that episode fills me with rage and disgust, and I know it's a Me problem and I know that the makers of SPN don't share my faith but I can't just ignore that. I already ignore a LOT of problems I have with show, especially the way women are treated. This just too personal, it hurts
People in India would have killed makers and writers of that episode with bare hands. And this is not an exaggeration

The realisation that Cas isn't allowed to in heaven but me like a brick to the face
You know Sam wasn't wrong to want normal, to want get away from what his life and family was, or being ignorant but as he got older, understood things more, he should have been more considerate . Just because Zachariah tampered with their Heaven doesn't change the way he thought of those memories
