So, since a lovely person revived my little love for Panic (thank you, @once-upon-an-imagine ), I wanted to continue my Dodge Mason story i had on my old blog @lunamadhatter99 , so I reread it and... well, I hated it. So I was thinking of rewriting it, changing some details and all that. The base would be pretty much the same, but I'd change a lot too. Also, because I low-key want it to be a Dodge Mason x reader x Ray Hall. So I gotta change some stuff.
So my question is

Finnick's POV
They managed to find some food. Finnick decided to catch some, more to distract himself that because he actually needed to eat. His stomach was completely closed after what happened.
He eats with the other because he does need his strengths, but doesn't feel like it at all.
Mags was like a mother and seeing her go like that... broke him.
The only thought keeping him going was Y/n, the thought that they could finally have a chance.
Finnick gets distracted from his thoughts when Peeta, opening one of the oysters, found a pearl. Finnick watches him giving it to Katniss, her accepting it. Finnick takes a moment to notice the way Peeta looks at her, the exact way he looks at Y/n, with adoration. Katniss is a little more reserved, of course, but she does feel something too, even though she doesn't realise it yet.
The sweet moment is interrupted by a loud scream.
"That's new." Peeta says standing up, Katniss and Finnick soon do too.
They look ahead, trees moving and breaking, then a big wave appears, it looks secluded to a section of the arena, but still aiming towards them apparently.
Even though the waves breaks at the cornucopia, it still creates waves towards the beach all around it. Thankfully not big enough to make damages.
As they watch the hovercraft flying to get the body of the dead tribute, Katniss grabs an arrow ready to fight.
"Someone's here." She says.
They all get their weapons, ready to defend themselves. They hide, watching who it was.
When Finnick sees Johanna, along Wiress and Beetee he lets out a sigh of relief, hope growing back in him as he walks to her calling her name.
"Whete the hell have you been?" He asks as soon as they're close enough.
"Me? I was looking for you the entire time, asshole!" Johanna shoots back.
Finnick knows she's not actually angry, rather worried, even though she would never admit it.
"So was I." He says, more calmly, "are you all okay?"
Johanna shrugs.
"Well, I got them out. We were a the way deep into the jungle where I thought it was gonna be safe. That's when the rain started." She starts explaining, while Beetee and Wiress got into the water to clean up, "I thought it was water. It turned out to be blood."
"Tick tock" Wiress comes close repeating the same two words.
"Hot, thick blood." Johanna keeps going as if she didn't notice her, "it was coming down. It was choking us. We were stumbling around, gagging on it, blind. That's when Blight hit the force field."
"Tick tock, tick tock" Wiress keeps talking as Johanna takes a big breath.
"He wasn't much, but it was from home." She says bitterly.
"What's wrong with her?" Katniss asks, referring to Wiress.
"She's in shock," Beetee answers, "dehydration isn't helping. Do you have fresh water?"
"We can get some."
As Johanna tries to, forcefully, stop Wiress from talking, Katniss immediately goes to defend her, almost starting a fight if it weren't for Finnick separating them, leading Johanna away.
"I got them out for you!" She screamed before she got dragged away.
"It's okay, it's okay." Finnick tries to calm her.
"Let me go, Finnick!" She insists, "let me go, I'm fine."
He lets her, and goes to sit down on the sand, soon Peeta joins as Katniss was helping Wiress clean up.
"Are you sure you're okay? I know Mags was important to you... and Y/n." Peeta asks.
"Yeah... uh... it was a possibility we didn't want to acknowledge, but... still a possibility." Finnick sighs, sadly.
"I'm really sorry." Peeta gives his shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
"It's alright."
"Can I ask you something?" Peeta suddenly whispers, so no one would hear and Finnick nods, still looking ahead, "your speech at the interviews... was for Y/n, wasn't it?"
Finnick only nods, so does Peeta understanding.
"What a situation, uh?" Finnick says sarcastically.
"Yeah.." Peeta sadly chuckle, then his attention shifts to Beetee, who was messing with a wire of some sort, "what's that?"
Beetee looks up to them, then back at the wire in his hands.
"Something we can use." He simply says before standing up and walking closed to the water.
Finnick and Peeta shares a confused look before shrugging.
The moment interrupted by the lightning hitting the big tree again, 12 times.
"They have out done themselves this time, uh?" Finnick comments once the lightnings stop.
"Yeah..." Peeta breaths out.
They attention is caught by Katniss walking back to them, a determined look on her face.
"I figured it out." She says.
Y/n's POV
"That's the plan?" I ask Plutarch as we talk in his office.
"Yes." He nods, "are you okay with that?"
"Of course, I am." I confirm, "does Haymitch know?"
"Yes, he does."
"Perfect... do you think they will do as you predict?" I ask, again feeling nervous.
"I am positive, they figured out how the Arena works, it's only a matter of time, we need to be ready." He replies, "I suggest you start packing and be ready."
"Got it." I nod, taking a deep breath, I look at Plutarch, who nods his head to give me courage somehow.
There's suddenly a knock on the door.
"Mr Heavensbee? Miss L/n?" One of the Gamemaker peers inside.
"Yes?"
"There's movement." He says.
"We'll be right there in a minute." Plutarch informs him so he can go back to the controll room.
"We still need to keep up the appearance, I know." I sigh.
"All for the cameras, miss L/n. Always."
We walk back into the room, just in time to see Gloss killing Wiress, I can't help the gasp leaving my mouth, it was so unexpected I couldn't stop it.
Plutarch put a hand on my shoulder for a second to make regain my composure.
We need to keep up the appearances, so I just move to one of the Gamemaker, to take a closer look. Katniss immediately kills him, Cashmere, of course, runs to attack her, thankfully Johanna pushes Katniss away and kills the district 1 tribute.
That means the other part of the Career pack is close.
"Keep the cameras on them, the other side there." I point where Finnick and Peeta stands, just in time to frame Brutus and Finnick fighting, Enobaria manages to wound Finnick before running away, thankfully is nothing bad.
Peeta tries to chase them, but Finnick holds him back, letting Katniss and Johanna go instead.
I look up at Plutarch, him already looking at me. Then he looks up and mouths "for the cameras."
He wants me to suggest something believable, to fool the president.
I start to think something that might be an obstacle, that might slow them down, we can't have the Games end now, we still have things to prepare, but it doesn't have to be something... deadly.
Think.
Think.
Think.
Thi.... okay.
"Make the cornucopia spin." I say, the Gamemaker, of course, looks up at Plutarch for confirmation and when he nods the cornucopia starts to spin on itself, making everyone lose balance.
Johanna helps Katniss stay on, as Finnick, Peeta and Beete do the same.
My heart skips a bit when Katniss falls, instinctively look at Plutarch.
"Okay. That's enough." He orders, "good thinking, miss L/n."
"Thank you, sir." I say, breathing heavily from anxiety, "it will be harder for them to tell time."
"Clever." He nods, and I let out a sigh of relief.
It made some trouble, but not too much... Good.
They quickly reunite, and go back to the beach... but a different section. I try to figure out which one it is.
"Brace yourself." Plutarch whispers so slightly to me as he passes by.
I take a quick look at the map, each section is perfectly labelled and I can quickly spot their position. It's the Jabberjays section.
Shit.
I take a deep breath and just wait to see what's going to happen.
They're counting down who might be left still in the games, now. Thankfully, it seems that Brutus and Enobaria are far from them.
"Activate them." Plutarch orders, I force myself not to look at him, because I know he has to do it. We are still not out of trouble, and at the Capitol, appearance is the most important thing.
So once Prim's voice reaches Katniss, she's immediately on her feet, running towards the sound. The rest of the group tries to keep her from going into the forest, to what they suspect is just a made up sound. Finnick is the fastest and immediately reach Katniss, who just shot a bird, finally realising it's fake, like everything else.
"You okay?" He asks, but Katniss can't even respond because another scream breaks in.
I can't help it this time, my eyes shoot up immediately to Plutarch.
That's my voice, screaming at Finnick for help.
Plutarch looks at me, guilty, he motion for me to just take a deep breath and stay calm as Finnick runs towards the sound with Katniss, this time, to convince him to stop.
"It's not her!" She screams at him to gain his attention. "It's just a Jabberjay. It's not her."
"Well, how do you think they got that sound?" He spits back, "Jabberjays copy."
I just want to scream at him that I'm okay, that's just a decoy... my idea nonetheless...
As Gale's voice adds itself into the mix, Katniss and Finnick run away, but unfortunately my idea has another problem.
They bump into the invisible wall, surrounded by all the mutts screaming at them.
Kantiss is holding her hands to her ears, Peeta screams at her, but of course, the wall around the section is supposed to isolate them even more.
I look at Finnick protecting his ears too, he's muttering something, but I can't understand what he's says, the birds screams are too loud. My throat feels tight, I feel the burn of tears ready to come out in my eyes, my chest hurts.
"Miss L/n?" Plutarch calls me, his voice feels so far right now, but I reluctantly look at him, "would you be so kind and go look into my office for the arena projects? I want to check something."
I can only nod and walk to his office, I know he wanted to give an excuse to be alone and recollect myself.
I close the door behind me, and I just lean against it until I sit down on the floor.
It's all my fault, I can't believe I make them suffer like this. Katniss' screams to somehow cover the noise broke my heart, so did Finnick's face.
I did that.
It's my fault.
I have to do everything in my power to get them out...
Finnick's POV
It's Johanna's voice asking him if he were okay to ground Finnick.
After God knows how long he and Katniss were trapped with the Jabberjays screaming at them, the invisible wall vanished and the other were able to rescue them.
Peeta reassures Katniss, telling her that at the Capitol they will never touch Prim.
"Your fiancé's right." Johanna agrees, "the whole country loves your sister. If they tortured her or did anything to her, forget the districts, there would be riots in the damn Capitol." Everyone looks at Johanna, a mixture of surprise and shock for having her reassuring Katniss. But she was not done, "Hey, how does that sound, Snow? What if we... what if we set you backyard on fire? You know, you can't put everybody in here."
The shock is shared between the other tributes as they listen to her screaming.
"What?" She asks, finally noticing, "they can't hurt me. There's no one left that I love. I'll get you some water." She finally says, seeing no one knows what to say... obviously.
They all go to the beach, Finnick put his trident in the sand and goes to sat in the water.
It always calmed him. He remembers the first night at the Capitol after he was reaped.
He couldn't sleep, he didn't even want to, not knowing what the Capitol actually had in store for him surely wouldn't accommodate a good sleep. He remembers he went into the bathroom, to fill the bathtub and get under the water. Unfortunately the bathtub wasn't big enough. When Y/n knocked on the door, he thought she was there to take him back to his room, instead she sneaked the two of them into the pool. There she tried everything she could to calm him, she got into the water with him and lay there with him, talking.
That's when he realised she was not like the rest.
The others looks at him, as they rest, Johanna brought Katniss some water and now they're talking.
"Why did they use Y/n's screams with him?" Katniss asks.
"Really?" Johanna's taken aback by that question. "Have you... haven't you noticed anything?" She slightly scoffs.
"I'm afraid not." Katniss answers flatly.
"Love sometimes is cruel." Johanna simply says.
Katniss thinks for a moment before understanding her words, and can't help but agree with her.
"I have a plan." Beetee suddenly says and everyone gathers around him listening closely.
"Where do the Careers feel safest? The jungle?" He asks the group.
"Jungle's a nightmare." Johanna speaks up.
"Probably here on the beach." Peeta suggests.
"Then why are they not here?" Beete asks once again.
"Because we are. We claimed it." Johanna answers.
"And if we left, they would come." He guesses.
"Or stay hidden in the tree line." Finnick says.
"Which in just over four hours will be soaked with the water from the 10:00 wave. And what happens at midnight?" He speaks as if he is teaching to a class, and wants them to understand the concept before having to say it himself.
"Lightning strikes that tree." Katniss answers, understanding the concept of the plan.
"Here's what I propose. We leave the beach at dusk. We head to the lightning tree. That should draw them back to the beach. Prior to midnight we then run this wire from the tree to the water." He explains, pointing to the tree and then the beach, "anyone in the water or on the damp sand will be electrocuted."
"How do we know the wire's not gon a burn up?" Johanna questions.
"Because I invented it." He replies, with a hint of pride. "I assure you, it won't burn up."
The silence falls as everyone thinks about what to do. Johanna and Finnick looks at each other, they both seem to agree to the plan. Katniss looks at Peeta, worried, and still a little suspicious.
"Well, it better than hunting them down." Johanna agrees.
"Yeah, why not?" Katniss agrees too, "if it fails, no harm done anyway, right?"
"All right, I say we try it." Peeta nods.
"So what can we do to help?" Finnick asks, hoping the real plan will work... quickly.
Y/n's POV.
"Keep me alive for the next six hours. That would be extremely helpful." Beete says to the group.
That's our chance.
Plutarch's in his office with the president, so I'm the one directing the Gamemakers.
"Keep it as close as possible to the lovers." I say, "the Capitol loves them. Give them as much as they want."
They of course want the other to win, and if it goes down to them being the last two one of them would surely sacrifice themselves for the other... I pray we get them all out on time.
Peeta tries to convince her, she is the one who should live, he shows her the pendant Effie gave him, opens it and show her the picture of her family.
It breaks me hearing Peeta saying that no one needs him, because it's so far from the truth and he doesn't realise it.
Thankfully, Katniss reassures him she needs him. As they kiss my heart warms, and also hurts as I think of Finnick... maybe when everything is over we could... have our chance.
No. I don't have to keep my hopes up, for no reason.
Plutarch comes out of his office, nods at my direction and then addresses the Gamemakers.
"We're almost at the grand finale." He declares. "How about you go get some rest, miss L/n? You worked a lot today."
"Are you sure, sir? If we're at the finale, you might need all hands on deck, right?" I ask, pretending to be sorry.
"Go have some rest and enjoy the show, you earned it." He nods.
"Thank you, sir." I force an enthusiastic smile and walk to the exit.
As I pass him he whispers to me, "pack what you need. You'll know when it's time to go, so keep an eye on the games."
"Yes, sir."
"When it's time, immediately go to the roof of the training centre." He instructs, I nod and just walk out, to my apartment.
--------------
I put the last item in my backpack, a picture of my brother when we were younger, before we got sent to Snow. I turn the TV on to keep and eye on the games, as Plutarch instructed. Thankfully, I got the program so I can see everything live and change angles.
Apparently the group has to split, Katniss and Johanna are sent to unspool the wire all the way to the beach. Peeta, obviously, tries to offer to go with them, but Beetee says he needs both Finnick and Peeta as protection.
Of course, it generated a little angst in the group, suspects raising, and it ends with them agreeing to part ways until midnight.
I look for any sort of signal within the games, but I can't see anything yet.
I bounce my leg anxiously, as I look at Johanna cutting Katniss' arm, I look closer and realise she's tacking off the tracking device, this let me let out a sigh of relief. I try to find Finnick with the other cameras, only to see him looking for Johanna. He probably heard the Careers and went searching.
But I need to force myself to look for Katniss instead, Finnick knows about the plan, he knows what to do, Katniss doesn't so if I have to look for a sign, she's the one I need to follow. She's going back at the tree, looking for Peeta, but once she gets there, she only finds Beetee. I gasp, looking at a shaking Beetee lying down. Then her eyes fall to a made-up spear, the wire wrapped around the tip.
The sound of the cannon distracts her, screaming for Peeta she stands up, but when Finnick shows up, my heart stops as I see her taking an arrow and pointing it at Finnick.
"Please..." I whisper.
The door opening only increases my anxiety, and I quickly grab the emergency gun I took from my small voult.
My eyes drift between the hallway and the TV.
"Hello, my sweetness." Cal appears in front of me, a creepy grin on his face.
"Cal? What are you doing here?" I ask.
"Missed you." He simply answers, stepping closer, but I take a step back. He gives me a surprised and irritated look.
I look at the TV, in time to hear Finnick saying something to Katniss.
"Remember who the real enemy is." He said.
Cal looks at the TV, then step closer again and I take another step back, the gun still behind my back.
"Turn it off, sweetheart." He orders.
My eyes are, instead, glued to the screen. Katniss takes the spear, unwraps the wire only to wrap ot again around her arrow.
"Sweetheart." He calls again.
Finnick tries to get Katniss to get away from the tree, but right before the lightning strikes, she fires the arrow towards the sky and the screen turns black.
"Shit." I mutter.
"What happened?" Cal asks, alarm clear in his tone.
"I have to go." I say, rushing past him, careful to keep the gun somwhow hidden.
"Y/n!" I hear him scream my name as I near the door.
I open the door, but I find Peacekeepers in front of me.
"Yes?" I ask, as flatly and emotionless as I can.
"You are to come with us." One of them informs me.
"Where?"
"You're under arrest." Another says.
"What?" I scoff.
"What's going on?" Cal appears beside me, I hold the gun under the backpack harder.
"She's under arrest, she's suspected to be part of a rebellious group, a group Plutarch Heavensbee is part of." They explain.
"That's ridiculous." Cal laughs.
"I'm afraid it's true, sir." The peacekeeper replies.
I need to get out, I need to get to that roof.
I push past them, taking a little advantage of their talking. I arrive at the elevator, as I wait the doors to open I hear quick footsteps nearing. I point my gun at the Peacekeepers, firing twice, I manage to slow them down just in time for the doors to open and let me in, and I fire three more before the doors close again. I only injure some of them.
I didn't see Cal, he probably froze because of the news.
I decide to exit at another floor, I'm sure there would be more peacekeepers down, so then I'll go for the backdoor.
I get to the 4th floor, and carefully step out, analysing my surroundings as I walk to the stairs. I'm not so sure it's the best choice, but it's the only one I got. I try to be fast, but careful at the same time, the last thing I want is for them to get me.
Steady steps, controlled breathing, gun at hand, I move down the stairs.
"In here!" I hear someone scream and I just have to rush down now.
I run downstairs, jumping a few step in the process until I'm in front of the door.
I don't think, I need to get away from the ones on the stairs...
So I open the door.
Finnick's POV
Finnick sits up straight, holding his aching head, breathing heavily from exhaustion.
"Good, we started to think you were dead." Haymitch's voice makes Finnick raise his head to look at him.
"I'm... okay... I think." He says, he looks at his body, noticing some bandages, especially on his arm. They thankfully took off the tracking device.
"Yeah, the device is off, no need to worry about... that." Haymitch says, there's tension in his voice, resignation too, anger.
"What exactly happened?" Finnick asks, confused still.
"Katniss fired that arrow to the force field... that obviously broke, the screens, the cameras were down, this gave us the time to come and get you." Haymitch explains.
"Okay..." Finnick nods, he senses something wrong though.
"Come, let's talk." Haymitch nudges him to get up and follow him.
They arrive to a room with a big table, and screens taking their position on the walls.
Plutarch's there to greet him, but he's not happy, he's not satisfied.
Finnick hopes to see Y/n soon, he needs a friendly face to calm down.
"Mr. Odair... glad to see you're okay." He then says.
"Well, I'm alive... that's something." Finnick replies, forcing a small laugh out, "what about the others?"
He sees Plutarch and Haymitch sharing a look, then they both sigh deeply.
"We manage to get the Mockingjay out of there, which was the main mission." Plutarch starts, but doesn't continue.
"The others?" Finnick pressures.
"We managed to also get Beetee out." He answers.
"Johanna and Peeta?" Finnick's now scared.
"The Capitol has them." Plutarch simply answers.
Finnick pales, they might as well be dead, who knows what the Capitol will do to them.
"And..." Haymitch walks a little closer to Finnick, eyes down, guilty and angry.
"What? What is it?" Finnick snaps, frustrated.
Haymitch looks him dead in the eyes, so he can perfectly see the fury in his stare.
"They got Y/n too."

Guys, little update
So, not only do they fancy each other, but they're in an actual relationship... like, what the fuck, mate? You gross, and a coward.
Also, they met online, all of us met online. We haven't seen each other yet in real life, and they are boyfriend and girlfriend without having met? Seriously? God... you stupid.
Plus, sometimes they are so obvious, so obvious, and I'm like, "Do you think I'm stupid?"
I thought I had some friends, but guess not.
Oh well, it is what it is.🤷🏻‍♀️
I love how none of the people that I know is on here and, most importantly, don't know my nickname because I can rant as much as I want to!
Okay, so, I met a guy online, we became friends, plus these other two ( a guy and a girl) we became good friends, okay? The first guy and I started sextexting too, okay? There was nothing wrong. We were both single and adult, so it was fine. We also agreed on the fact that if any of us were to start seeing anyone, we would stop. Easy.
And now... now I found out he's been texting the girl... texting as in they both like each other. While I have no problem with that, I have a problem because she's my friend. I do have a problem with him not being honest. This thing apparently has been going for a month... and I mean, I don't care about it. All I wanted was honesty... from my friends.
Especially because we are friends, or were... I'm not really sure if I want to be friends with them all anymore, I'm not gonna lie.
And that's it... thanks for listening to me♥️

Y/n's Pov.
I'm walking to Plutarch's office, ready to start my duties as assistant when he meets me outside, a serious expression on his face.
"The president is in there." He tells me in a whisper.
"Okay..." I say taking a deep breath, "should I..?"
"No, it's alright." He smiles reassuringly, "you take your place in the control room. I'll be down soon."
I nod and immediately walk to the room with all the stations and screens.
"Should we wait for Mr Heavensbee?" One of the Gamemaker asks.
"What? Uh... yes, we should." I tell them, "he should be down here in a moment, anyway."
They nod and go back facing their station.
I take deep breath, I hope the plan works... it will, I keep telling myself, but I can't shake off the feeling of something going wrong. I can't control what happens in the arena and that's what scares me the most.
"They told me Cal Kingslay was the one with him before he entered the Arena." Plutarch appears behind me and whispers the information in my ear, making me gasp.
What?
Why?
Of course, I know why... Cal wanted him distracted, wanted him to be a victim of the bloodbath... my only consolation is that Finnick's strong, this will only make him fight harder.
When everyone notices Plutarch, they all stand up waiting orders.
"Let's start." He says and everyone sits back down.
Finnick's Pov.
Finnick's taking deep breaths as he waits to get into the small elevator towards the arena, when he hears the door behind him opening.
He turns around hoping to see her walking in, but is deeply disappointed when he sees Cal Kingslay himself stepping inside.
"Ah, Cal!" Finnick exclaims, putting on his best fake-smile, "I'm surprised to see you here."
"Cut the act, pretty boy." Cal basically spits, "I'm here to make sure you get into the arena."
"Why would I deny you all a good show?" Finnick's quick to reply.
"And..." Cal says as if he didn't hear him at all, "I'll make sure everything goes accordingly."
"Whatever do you mean?" Finnick asks, starting to get frustrated.
He is about to be thrown into an arena, again, against people he will have to kill if he wants to survive, again, of course he won't contain his frustration this time.
"Nothing you need to worry about." Cal smirks, "I'm also here to make sure you'll do your part. Not that... you have much of a choice in it."
"Well... I've made a promise, haven't I?" Finnick's smile drops, he finally stopped caring about appearances, "to come back to you both."
"Yeah, about that... I'll need you to not keep that promise." Cal says, walking closer to the district 4 man.
"What do you want?" He then asks.
"You will not come back to us... to her."
Finnick genuinely laughs and Cal's own smirk disappears.
"I've made a promise." Finnick insists, "and I plan on keeping it."
"Not if I have a say in it." Cal warns.
"But you don't." Finnick feigns sorrow. "What a pity." He takes a step closer, keeping a fake smile on, taking advantage of the slight height difference, "I will come back to you... both of course. "
Cal doesn't seem touched by Finnick's behaviour and keeps a calm stance.
"I know what you said to her that night." Cal whispers, and Finnick's smile disappears like it's been smacked off completely. "Yes, I heard... I'm not as stupid as you think I am. And your little speach at the interviews... you can trust me when I say you will not be allowed to get near her even if you win this thing."
"That's not your call, is it?" Finnick challenges.
"Oh, but it is... after I marry her, she is mine." Cal grits out, "I'll make sure she knows that too."
Finnick feels his blood boil in his veins at that, he walks even closer to Cal, to show him he was not intimidated, not anymore.
"Don't you dare..."
"Or what?" Cal, once again, challenges with a smirk, "you can do nothing, pretty boy."
"If you hurt her... you'll see exactly what I can do."
They're basically chest to chest now.
"Is that a threat?" Cal's smirks grows wider.
"You can count on it." Finnick sternly says.
Before Cal could say anything, the small elevator opened, to signal it's time for Finnick to get into it.
"10 seconds to launch"
"You won't be able to do anything for some time anyway, Odair." Cal says, walking backwards towards the exit, "by the time you come back, if... if you come back, she won't even remember you."
Finnick feels anger, rage growing so fast he starts to hit the door to get to Cal. He never felt like the ones he killed deserved it, but this time Finnick feels like Cal is the only one deserving it, and he wants to be the one to do it.
The last thing he sees before the elevator took off was the infamous smirk on Cal's face.
Finnick knows why Cal wanted to be the one to make sure he got in, he knows Cal wanted to unsettle him, to upset him enough to make him lose his focus. Cal is wrong though, that only made him even more focused, even more determined to survive long enough for her.
Y/n's Pov
I look towards the screens. Each tribute is framed as they emerge, so I just need to look...
I first spot Katniss' hard expression. She looks shocked and upset, her eyes are wet, then she looks around to probably spot Peeta.
I finally find Finnick. My heart jumps when I notice the anger on his face.
What has Cal said to him? What did he do?
I look at Plutarch with wide eye, he nods with a smile to say to keep it cool. So I too nod my head and with a deep breath I go back at looking at the screens.
I see Peeta too, he's scared, nervous, but still determined as ever which fills my heart with hope.
Then Claudius' voice announces the beginning of the countdown.
Ten.
As the countdown begins the tributes start to get ready.
Nine.
Some are ready to jump into the water towards the cornucopia.
Eight.
Some look around them, to the forest, to escape the very likely bloodbath.
Seven.
I watch Katniss staring at the cornucopia, I hope she sees the bow and arrows...
Six.
I see Finnick ready to jump.
Five.
He's looking around for Mags, luckily she's not that far, she's ready too.
Four.
Peeta is taking deep breath, he probably wants tot get to the cornucopia too.
Three.
I need to keep them safe.
Two.
I will keep them safe.
One.
I have to.
--------
The cannon fires, signaling the beginning of the games.
Some run into the forest, but most jump into the water ready to either swim to the cornucopia, like Finnick, or towards one of the stone lines that define the sections in the arena.
"Miss L/n?"
I tear my eyes away from the screens when Plutarch calls me.
He beckons me to stand to his side as he looks at some papers on his desk.
"Yes?" I ask and he hands me a piece of paper, the list of threats in the arena, I look at him with a light forrow he nods to the paper.
"Are you okay?" He asks.
I then start to pretend to refer to the paper.
"Yeah. All good sir." I answer, using the calmest tone I can, "just nervous you know. Being an assistant during the games... Big role."
"Oh, miss L/n, you'll do a great job, I am sure. There's nothing you should worry about." He tells me, and I nod my head taking another deep breath, "the game is on."
"Yes, sir."
I go back to watch the screen, Katniss and Finnick are talking. Katniss is aiming at Finnick, but thankfully after he showed her the bracelet Haymitch gave him and after saving her, she might listen to him and follow him. Making our job easier.
I just hope the ring I gave to Johanna will do the same.
But where's Peeta?
I get close to one of the Gamemaker, maybe that one in the water is Peeta..
"Could you zoom in here?" I ask them, they do and I need to keep in a gasp, when I do see him... fighting against the guy from district 5 or 6, I can't exactly tell.
I beg someone sees and helps him. He is strong and he's managing to resist for now. And luckily Finnick's arrives to help him.
"Ready with the cannon, folks." Plutarch orders and I tense.
I stare at the vital signals of each of them and when the ones of the guy Peeta was fighting die I slowly let out a sigh of relief.
The cannon fires.
His body emerges as Finnick nears them, I take a closer look at Katniss, I can feel her fear, her hopelessness. That expression alone should be enough for Snow to see how much she actually loves Peeta, and she doesn't even realise it herself.
Once Peeta's figure appears form the waters gasping for air, I see Katniss breathing again.
"Point the cameras at the Career Pack, by the cornucopia." I tell one of the Gamemaker, "then back at her, make people understand the vibes right away."
"Good idea, miss L/n." Plutarch nods his head.
I go back at looking at the arena, the Careers taking the cornucopia only proves my point. They needed allies, thankfully Finnick and Mags are with them.
"Miss L/n, would join me for a moment?"
I flinch at Snow's voice. I turn around, seeing his figure peeking from behind the door to the studio.
"Oh course, sir." I nod and walk to the studio, taking a last look at Plutarch, which slightly reassures me, and to the screens, Katniss, Peeta and Finnick, carrying Mags, are running into the forest.
With the thought of them being safe in the forest, I walk into the studio.
I see Snow pouring himself something, he hold a glass towards me to offer me a drink, but I kindly refuse.
"How's your first day like, miss L/n?" He asks, from an outsider's eye this relationship could look familiar and sweet, grandfather and granddaughter bonding.
Time to perform the dutiful citizen role, then.
"I'm excited, sir. I'm also nervous, to be honest." I say, faking shyness.
"Nervous? Whatever for?" He asks.
"Well, it's a very important role, sir. One thing is being an assistant to the mentors... another is being this participant in the making of the games." I explain, hoping he thinks I care, "I want everything to be perfect, sir."
"That's what I want to her, my dear." He says, sitting down to keep watching the screens in front of him, "come sit."
I force myself to move and sit with him, I watch him attentively, I try to look for the smallest movement of disapproval on his face, but I see none. Which is not for sure a good thing, Snow isn't known to show too much his true intentions.
"I had an idea for your wedding, if you'll accept it." He casually says, turning to look at me. As if I had any choice, I have to accept it.
"Of course, sir." I swallow all my anger.
"I thought my granddaughter could be the one to bring the rings, she would really love it. You know, she considers you family." He says this almost like he is challenging me.
"That's a wonderful idea, that would be a honor, sir." I say, forcing out a smile, "I'll talk to Cal when-"
"I already did. He was just as happy." He interrupts me, with a bright smile, so all I can do is nod, "did he tell you about his wish?"
"His... wish? Sir?" I ask.
"Too see your district 4 lover dead." Even though he's not smiling as brightly as before he keeps on a creepy smile on nonetheless.
"My... what?" I scoff. I'm sure the confusion I'm showing feels real, because he seems satisfied, surprised too.
"It seems like your soon-to-be husband thinks there's something going on between you and the Finnick Odair." Snow confides.
"What a silly idea." I say, amused, then I let out a small sigh, "but, I can't say I'm surprised."
"Why's that?"
"Cal's always been a bit... insecure, sir." I whisper, even though we're the only people here.
"Is that so?" He says, but he doesn't seem surprised, he just smiles, pleased almost. "So what he told me was just the fruit of his own insecurity?"
I swallow, if Cal talked to Snow, it's not good, I need to play my role perfectly.
"I don't know what he told you, sir, but most likely yes." I say calmly, to make him believe I'm being very casual about it.
"He told me, he heard Mr Odair confessing his... 'undying' love to you." His smile drops fully, to show me he won't tolerate a lie.
"Undying love?" I repeat his words to gain more time somehow, "I think he dreamt it, to be completely honest with you, sir. It would've been stupid to do so with Cal present. I've known Mr Odair for quite sometime now, first when I was assigned to district 4 and during these years along the other mentors, and I can say that he's not stupid."
Snow considers me for a moment, watching my face, analysing. Then a smile appears on his face.
"I want to believe you, miss L/n." He says, standing up, "don't break my trust."
"I wouldn't dream of it." I reply, standing up as well.
"Well, happy Hunger Games, my dear." He nods, walking to the exit.
"Enjoy the show, Mr President." I nod too.
Once he is out of the room, I take deep and slow breaths, holding back tears.
I stand back up again, inhale deeply, shake my head and exhale a big, long breath. Then finally, I walk back into the controlls room.
Finnick's Pov.
Since Katniss decided to take first watch, Finnick helps Mags settle down, as comfortable as he could, then sits down himself. After what happened that day to Peeta, and seen the reaction from Katniss, Finnick's mind couldn't help but go to her.
As Finnick sits, keeping watch for a while with Katniss, he thinks about the day he saw her again.
It was one of the very first time he was sold, some rich woman asked for him and for her apparently. When Finnick saw her there he thought she was the one who bought his time, he remembered he felt disappointed. He was scared Y/n wa like everyone at the Capitol. Once he realised she's been sold as well, his fear amplified.
He never wanted to catch feeling for her, she's right, love only made everything more complicated and risky for the both of them.
Finnick looked at Katniss, sitting close to Peeta, keeping an eye out for him too.
"How's Peeta?" He decides to ask, he knows how she might feel.
"He's okay, I think." Katniss answers dryly, "dehydrated like the rest of us."
Finnick wants to say more, but Panem's anthem starts playing, interrupting his thoughts, to show the fallen tributes of that day... all people Finnick knew. Even though he wasn't close with each of them he couldn't help the anger seeing their faces in the sky.
"Eight." Katniss declars and Finnick humms agreeing.
Suddenly they hear an electronic chiming, they recognise it being a gift from the sponsors. They stand to go look at it and find out what it is.
Katniss opens the package and reads the note inside.
" 'drink up'?" She asks confused Finnick leans down a little to take a look too.
He feels disappointed and worried it wasn't from Y/n, but he guesses it's just safer this way.
"What is it?" He asks, pointing at what Katniss found.
"It's from Haymitch." She says, then after a second more of inspecting, "I think it's a spile."
"A what?"
Katniss then goes to the nearest tree and sticks the spile in it, with a rock to secure it.
They wait and wait, Peeta joins them soon
They're nervous, if it works they can have water and, of course, not die of dehydration.
He thinks about Mags, already weak from her old age, she won't survive much longer without water.
Luckily, liquid comes out the spile, Katniss immediately opens her mouth to catch it and finally drink.
"You're kidding me. You're kidding me." Finnick exclaims, surprised and, definitely relieved. He motion for Peeta to get some water too before drinking some himself. Then he goes to find a leaf so he can bring some water to Mags.
She more than gladly accepts and thanks him.
Finally hydrated, at least a little, they lay down to get some rest.
Rest that doesn't last long because they hear an alarm beeping, big metal sound invading their ears, startling them all.
They're all alert, watching out for anything that could attack them, or cause any sort of harm.
The beeping then stops. Confusing everyone.
"I counted 12." Katniss says.
"Midnight?" Finnick tries to guess.
"Or the number of the districts." Katniss adds, before a big thunder rumbles, and they look at it hitting one of the big trees in the arena repeatedly 12 times.
"Well..." Finnick starts after the lightning stops, "if you're not gonna sleep, I will."
"Okay." Katniss simply says.
Finnick lets out a light scoff and goes to lay down, somehow keeping and eye out for anything.
His mind can't help but wander to Y/n.
He wishes she was with him, but not in the arena, just with him. He wants to hold her, seeking her comfort.
But mostly, he wishes to know she's okay. To know that Cal hasn't done anything.
The thought of her is the only thing keeping him going.
He wishes to come back to her.
Y/n's Pov
They're resting. That's good.
Katniss, rightfully, still doesn't trust Finnick that much, but it's a good start.
I'm still recovering from the scare Peeta gave me earlier today. I really thought we lost him. But thankfully Finnick was there to save his life. Plutarch had to draw me back since the relief was tok evident. No one noticed, though.
I really don't think I could ever fall asleep tonight, but being in the comfort of my own apartment will help my mind. Plus Plutarch promised to warn me in case something happens.
I go to open the front door, but I find it unlocked, which is weird, since I remember I specifically locked it... as I always do.
When I hear noises coming from the living room, I grab a small statue from the table in the entrance, a statue resembling the big one in the Capitol. I slowly walk around the apartment to the living room, and I cautiously peek inside, only to grab the statue harder.
"Finally home, my sweetness!" Cal exclaims, happily, opening his arms to me.
"Cal?" I let out a laugh to hide the nerve, "what... what are you doing here?"
"Can't I miss my wife?" He says matter-of-factly.
"I... I'm not your wife yet..." again another nervous laugh.
"Technicalities..." he says, walking towards me, "put it down now, it's just me."
I look down at the small object in my hand, I need to keep the urge to hit him hard at bay, my hand almost trembles in anticipation.
"I... I'm sorry. Didn't realise I was still holding it." I say, but I can't let go of it.
"Then put it down..." he says, watching me closely, "I said, put it down!"
He walks to me and harshly grab my wrist with one hand and the statue with the other, putting it on the table.
"You just scared me."
"I'm sorry." He says, but I can sense he's not sorry at all, "I wanted to spend some time with you."
"Sure..." I whisper.
I watch him walking to the couch and sitting down, he then looks at me and pats the spot next to him.
I need to force myself to walk to him and sit, close to him, but not right next to him. He doesn't like that and pulls me closer to his side immediately... or better on his lap.
"I'm really excited about our wedding, you know." He whispers into my ear, as his hand caresses my leg.
I squirm to at least get off his lap and onto the couch, but his hold only tightens.
"So am I." I say flatly, trying to stop his wandering hand, "but I was hoping to get some rest, Cal. We can talk tomorrow."
He's not satisfied with my reply, he pushes me off of him and onto the couch with him towering over me, his hands on either side of my head to trap me beneath him.
"Maybe I wasn't clear last time we talked, uh? You. Do. As. I. Say." He scolds me, "got it?"
"Yes." I say looking anywhere but him, to find a way out.
"Look at me when I talk to you." He orders, not giving me time to actually comply, he grabs my face hard, making me face him, "Good girl."
His proud smirk only makes me want to throw up.
"Now, now, now..." he coos, "we can talk. Right?"
"Yes... C-Cal." I stutter out.
"So good." He grins, removing his hand from my face, but he starts to move it to my hip.
"Don't-"
"I'm not done talking." He interrupts me,squeezing my side, "I'm sure you already figured out why I talked to Mr Heavensbee that day, uh? You're smart, of course you did." His face is way to close now, he leans on his forearm so he can uses his hand to stroke my hair lightly, I nod, "but, he told me that even if he tried, there wouldn't be any certainty that the fisherman will die." I can't help the glare I send his way, "so if he does come back... I don't want you talking to him, let alone go to the victory tour."
"That's my job, I-" I try to reason, but he grabs my hair suddenly making me cry in pain.
"I'm not done." He repeats firmly, " I will talk to the president, he surely will understand my worries. It's either that... or I'll have to make you forget about him all together."
I widen my eye at that, trying harder to push him off.
"Why?" I ask.
"Because you're mine." He says with a sick smile on his face, "wasn't that already obvious? Now... how about we enjoy ourselves?"
He leans even closer, his lips almost touching mine, but I turn my head away and he starts to leave kisses on my neck.
I just pray anything would happen right now, anything to get him to pull away from me.
Thankfully my prayers have been heard because there's a knock on the door, stopping Cal's movements.
"Who the fuck is there?" He growls.
"I... I don't know." I breath out.
He pulls away and I shakily walk to the door as quickly as possible. All while hearing Cal's complaints.
I open the door finding two peacekeepers right in front of me.
"Yes?" I ask, confused.
"Miss L/n, Mr Heavensbee has requested your presence." One of them informs me, "we are to take you to the head quarters immediately."
"I... sure..."
"Who is that?" Cal suddenly appears from the living room.
"Mr Heavensbee asked for me." I tell him without looking at him.
"Now?" He asks annoyed.
"I'm afraid so." I mutter.
If Plutarch sent them to take me back, something bad must've happened. A knot forms immediately in my stomach at the thought.
"Fuck.." I hear him swearing, "fine... I have to get to work anyway..."
He walks to us and kisses my head affectionately.
"Bye." I softly say.
He pulls me to him to whisper into my ear.
"We're not done." He says, tone threatening.
I nod and he walks out.
"I'll be right with you." I say to the peacekeepers, before turning to put on my jacket.
----------
I walk up the stairs and see Plutarch waiting for me with a sorry face on.
Once we are close enough I ask.
"What happened?"
"I'm sorry..." he says.
"What... happened?" I ask again, but he just shakes his head. So I push past him and into the controlling room, looking at the vitals signals.
Mags' is turned off.
No.
I watch the screens and see one of the gamemakers watching again and again a scene to get the best angle to show the audience.
I walk closer, my stomach turning on itself.
I run to the studio, after I saw Mags stepping into the poisonous fog to let the others escape it.
Finnick's screams for Mags not to, are stuck in my head... that's all I hear before I collapse onto the floor and cry uncontrollably.
Mags is gone...
I couldn't safe her.
I hear the door opening, not caring to wipe away the tears I stay on the floor, when a comforting hand find its way on my back.
"She already made up her mind... you know that." Plutarch says softly, "she would've never let anything happen to them."
"I know." I choke out.
"Take deep breaths, Y/n." He tells me.
I nod straightening my back and I start to do as he suggested.
Once I've calmed down, I stand up, Plutarch offered a hand, but I refused it and I start walking back to the controll room.
"Y/n," he calls me back, "Cinna's dead too."
I stop in my tracks, turn to look at him dead in the eyes.
"We're getting them out." I firmly say.
We're getting them all out.
We are.

I'm sorry if I can't tag everyone😔🥺

I walk into the living room, towards the big table finding Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch already there having breakfast... well Katniss and Peeta are, Haymitch just started drinking.
"Morning," I say sitting down.
"Good morning." Peeta smiles at me, a little forced, which I get... tomorrow they'll be sent to the arena.
"Hi." Katniss says.
"Morning, princess." Haymitch hands me a tea cup, I look at it rather suspiciously and when Haymitch smiles proudly I know he put some alcohol in it... so I take it.
Gladly.
"Good morning, everyone. Today's an important day!" Effie cheery voice echoes in the whole apartment as she enter and sit with us for breakfast.
"Indeed." I say with a sigh.
"When the whole team supposed to be here, Y/n?" She asks me.
"Uhm... around 5pm." I tell her.
"This means we will use this time to come up with a proper strategy, since you refuse any alliance." Haymitch then turns to me, "you'll help?"
"I can't... Plutarch wants to see me." I sadly say, "last minute details to fix, I think."
Haymitch nods.
"Can't you give us a tiny bit of hint?" Peeta jokes.
"Unfortunately, I can't say anything." I shrug standing up taking my jacket with me.
"Fine, keep your secret, Princess." Haymitch says, winking at me as I near the elevator doors. I smile at everyone and enter the elevator.
"Beware of the time, guys. Always." I say before the doors close.
------------------
"No allies?" Plutarch asks in disbelief, handing me a glass, he stands next to his desk in his office.
"No allies." I reply, slowly shaking my head no.
He sighs deeply, then stands up and moves a hand to his chin thinking.
"But..." I start, pointing his attention back on me, "Haymitch and I will take care of it." He arches an eyebrow, questioning, "I promise."
"They know nothing, right?" He checks.
"They know less than nothing." I tell him.
"Good." He nods, "the president doesn't want you to participate in the interview this year."
"Really?" I ask.
Usually Snow insisted on me being interviewed after all the tributes', to have the Capitol's people being represented, as he put it. It's a relief.
"Yeah, he only wants you to be interviewed almost at the end." He informs me, "you know, to have more people follow, waiting to hear from you, both about your tributes and your... wedding."
"Please, do me a favour... don't mention my wedding." I groan, "I'm not really planning on attending. You know."
He sends me a knowing look, then proceeds to hand me a piece of paper.
"What is it?" I ask, examining it.
"The 12 threats in the arena."
"I see he did enjoyed my ideas..." I say swallowing hard.
"You fooled him. He does think you're... coming around." Plutarch compliments me.
"No," I shake my head, reading the list, "no one can fool him. He doesn't trust anyone. He never underestimate anyone."
"Oh, my dear, we did." He smiles. "He has no suspects, whatsoever."
"You think?"
"We would be dead now, if he did." He reason and I nod, agreeing.
"It makes sense... but I still don't feel secure enough." I tell him.
"And you shouldn't." He sits next to me, "we're at the point we can't afford feeling secure. Not even for a moment."
I nod.
"Did... uhm..." I start, my mouth feeling dry all of a sudden, "did... Cal come by... recently?"
"Cal Kingslay?"
"Yeah..."
"No."
"Do you know if he talked to any of the other Gamemakers?" I insist.
"Not that I know of... and trust me, I would know." He tells me, "did he tell you something?"
"Just that he would make sure to not have... competition anymore." I sigh, closing my eyes frustrated.
"Just another thing to keep an eye out for." He pats my back, "now, "he stands again, "tonight's interviews. The tributes will try all they can to stop the games."
"Good fucking luck." I scoff, sadly.
"They'll try everything. So... we need to talk about the remote... very remote chance that they succeed." He continues.
"Yeah... sure." I say, fully unconvinced.
"It might happen." He keeps a dead serious tone, "loved victors, tributes the Capitol consider 'family', they just might succeed."
"Now, that's pretentious." I say, taking a big gulp from my glass, "but okay... so what if they succeed?"
"It's quite simple," he starts, "you will get to-"
A hard knock on the door interrupts him. Plutarch looks at me, tensing, giving me a look to say to stay calm and natural.
"Yes?"
"Sorry, Mr Heavensbee, Cal Kingslay is here to see you." One of the other Gamemakers announces, I look at Plutarch hoping to find comfort. He does looks at me with determination, so I know he will take care of it.
"Let him in." Plutarch agrees.
Not long after, Cak enters the room, before he can greet Plutarch, he notices me.
"My sweetness, what a surprise!" He exclaims.
"Hi, Cal." I say forcing out a smile.
"Miss L/n is my apprentice, I'm sure you knew she would be here." Plutarch says.
"Yes, I admit I was hoping to catch her. With all of her... obligations, I barely see her." Cal tries to justify himself, "I'm sure you can understand how love can be."
"Yeah... I have an idea." Plutarch smiles, after getting to know him, I can recognise when he's true and fake, and that's definitely a fake smile.
"So you get it..." he sighs, dreamily, "I can't wait to marry her," he looks at me, slightly biting his lips, "I'll finally have her full attention."
"Oh well, I hope you'll let us spend some time with her too," Plutarch challenges him, "she has a great brain. Plus she's my apprentice, she might be the next head Gamemaker one day."
"Yeah," Cal grits out, not liking at all the idea, "I'm sure we could think of something. "
"But, Mr Kingslay, tell me, did you want to talk to me about something?" Plutarch asks, putting his hands in his pocket, to show Cal he's not intimidated.
"Oh yes, actually I do." Cal nods, then turns to me, walking up to me taking my hands in his, "would you mind leaving us, sweetheart?"
"Sure." I say, probably way too quickly, my eyes fall to the clock on the wall "of course. I have to get back and help some of the Tributes get ready, anyway."
Cal kisses my hands softly, I fight the urge to snatch my hands back.
"I'll see you tomorrow for the beginning, miss L/n." Plutarch smiles.
"Of course, Mr Heavensbee."
I start to walk to the door, Cal reluctantly lets me go and I subtly rush out as soon as I can.
I jump immediately into the car ready to get back to the tributes centre.
------------------
I go to check in with Cinna about Katniss' outfit for tonight.
He leads me to the dressing room and my jaw drops as I spot the wedding dress in the middle of it.
"Oh my god..." I breath out.
"Glad you like it." Cinna says.
"If anything goes South and I end up marrying that cunt, I'm glad you're the one they chose to make my dress" I tell him, getting closer to the dress to inspect it better.
"You'd be a beautiful bride. Regardless of the husband." He compliments me and I genuinely smile at this.
"Thank you."
"I also added a special touch to it." He whispers.
"What did you do?" I ask, getting nervous.
"You'll see tonight." The determined look he has as he says this freezes me to the stop.
"Cinna..." I start, "what did you do?"
He just winks at me. "C'mon, go take a seat."
I reluctantly follow him out so he can be ready to help Katniss put on the dress, and I go find Haymitch, I take my seat next to him as Ceasar starts the show.
As always Ceasar hosts the show with his usual laugh and cheerfulness.
"Thank you, thank you!" He address the audience once he took his place in the center of the stage, "Thank you for being here tonight! On the eve of the 75th Hunger Games!" He laughs, "we have never seen anything like this and we will never see anything like it, again. Because tonight, on thus stage 24 of Panem's brightest starts will view for the ultimate crown. Tonight will be their final opportunity to express their thoughts. Our final opportunity to express our love and heartbreakingly to say goodbye to all but one."
Hypocrisy.
"What a night." He softly says, before screaming again, "let's hear it!"
And the crowd cheers louder than before.
"And I know, I know all of you want the gossip about THE wedding of the year, but you will have to wait."
The crowd makes sounds of disapproval, even though the cheering atmosphere remains.
"Can't spoil all the fun, can we?" He laughs again, "but don't you worry, the royal couple will tell us all the details eventually." He winks at the audience and finally the interviews can start.
"Kill me now." I whisper to Haymitch.
"And steal the fun to the president? Nah..." he jokes and I can't help but chuckle and move my attention back to the show.
Of course they start with district 1, Cashmere and Gloss, they interview them together and of fucking course, Cashmere will use the tears to try and make people stop the games... not the smartest choice, but still a choice.
Then it's 2 turn, then 3 where Beetee obviously tries to use logic, but unfortunately the Capitol's people are not smart enough to understand.
Then four...
I take a deep breath, hoping Finnick won't say anything he might regret.
"Finnick," Ceasar addresses him, "I understand that you have a message for somebody out there. A special somebody." He laughs, and Finnick shows his perfect smile, his perfect forced smile the Capitol loves so much, "can we hear it?" He then asks.
Finnick looks quickly out in the audience, I see him spotting me and I can see the slight hint of an actual smile on his lips.
"My love," he starts seriously and my breath is caught in my throat, "you have my heart, for all eternity, and" he pauses for a moment, " if... I die in that arena, my last thought will be of your lips."
"Guess he didn't listen to you, uh?" Haymitch says before drinking from his flask.
"No, he didn't." I sigh. I just hope Cal won't think anything of it.
Each victor has their own way of dealing with this special games and interviews. Some tries to pity the audience, some treats it as a normal interview and then there are some like Johanna who just want to let out all the anger they feel. Which is exactly what I would love to do myself.
Cinna arrives, and takes a seat on the other sode of me, Katniss must be ready.
"It's our turn, princess." Haymitch pats my knee as Ceaser announces Kantiss' arrival.
As Katniss joins Ceasar on stage I can finally admire the dress properly. She looks absolutely beautiful, it makes me even angrier knowing it's not her choice.
"You look fabulous!" Ceaser compliments her, "doesn't she?" He asks the audience who claps their hands vivaciously as Katniss just stands there, smiling, acting like the happy bride the Capitol wants.
"Now, Katniss, this is a very big and very emotional night for all of us. Wouldn't you say?"
"Don't go crying on me now, Ceasar." Katniss teases.
"I can't make promises you know me." He laugh with her, enjoying the exchange.
"You know I wouldn't believe you, even if you did." Katniss, surprisingly, jokes again and Ceaser laughs even harder.
"I love her!" Ceaser exclaims, "the firl on fire is so cheeky!" He slowly turns more serious, "but Katniss, on a more serious note. I think we're all a little disappointed, more than a little disappointed, that a certain wedding did not take place. We all hoped to celebrate a double wedding this year. Didn't we folks? Alas. But am I correct in assuming that this is the gown that you would have worn on that day, yes or no?"
As Ceaser speak, I watch Katniss tensing.
"Yes, president Snow thought everyone would want to see it." Katniss answer, with a fake sweet smile at the end.
"Well, President Snow, as usual, was right. Was he not, folks?" He cheers. "I love it! I love it! Don't you love it, folks? It's incredible. It's so gorgeous. Will you do us the honour? Please? Please? Please?"
Ceaser looks like a child asking for candy as he steps back a little to let Katniss have more space to spin.
I tense up in my seat, glance slightly to Cinna next to me.
As Katniss spins her dress, as expected, catches on fire... but it's burning the dress now, I look at Cinna questioning then back at Katniss.
The dress burns to the point of having wings appearing on her...
"It's a bird!" Ceaser exclaims, trying to guess, "it's got feathers. It's like a bird..."
I recognise the Mockingjay.
I look at Cinna, then at Haymitch, who has a stern look on his face.
"Your stylist certainly has outdone himself this time, hasn't he?" Ceaser comments, shock written all over his face, " what theatricality! Cinna!" He then calls, "take a bow!"
The cameras are now on Cinna who stands and takes all the applauses the crows is giving him.
But Snow is not going to like it...
I pretend to cheer like everyone else, but inside I'm scared, defeated...
As the cheers die down a little, to let Katniss exit the stage and join the other tributes, we sit back down and I feel Cinna taking my hand to give it a reassuring squeeze before letting go. A way of saying "it's okay."
Once Peeta gets on stage, Ceasar doesn't waste any more time and asks again about the wedding.
"But, Peeta, the wedding, the marriage, never to be?" He asks.
"Well, actually, we got married." The crowd whispers and gasps, "in secret." He adds.
Nice move, Peeta.
"A secret wedding?" Ceasar asks with a laugh. "All right. Do tell."
"We want our love to be eternal."
A bunch of 'awws' erupt from the audience.
"You know, Katnis and I, we've been luckier than most. And I wouldn't have any regrets at all if it weren't... if..." he starts to stutter.
I wonder what he has in mind, I again try to look for answers in Haymitch, but he is just as interested as I am.
"If it weren't for what? What?" Ceasar urges him.
"If it weren't for the baby." Peeta finally says.
The audience explodes at this. People shouting, gasping, waving their hands, ceasar tries to contain the situation, but fails.
I see Peeta looking towards us, with the faintest smirk and me and Haymitch nod at him, quite surprised.
"Did you suggest it?" Haymitch asks.
"Nope." I say, "you?"
"Neither."
Ceaser motion for Peeta to join the others, clearly he has no idea what to do to calm the people, who simply keep on screaming to stop the games.
But as Ceasar keeps trying to contain the theater, the tributes behind him grab each other's hands to raise them together.
This fills my heart with hope, but the lights are cut off soon and the whole room falls into darkness.
-----------------
I can't help my bouncing leg as we all wait for Plutarch to come out and tell us the fate of the games.
"He won't cancel them." I whisper to Haymitch, making sure the other mentors and guards can't listen, "not now that he has a chance to kill her for good."
"I know." He sighs, patting my legs.
"And Cinna.." I choke out.
"I know, I know."
The doors open and Plutarch comes out with a look that doesn't bring good news.
"The games are still on." He simply says before walking off.
Everyone, walk away to the elevators.
We meet Effie on the way.
"So?" She asks and we shake our heads, "oh poor kids..."
The elevator ride to 12 is silent.
We find Katniss and Peeta in the living room.
"Baby bomb was a stroke of genius." Haymitch starts, I nod, "Unfortunately, games are still on. This is a goodbye, for now."
Katniss nods, determined and defeated at the same time.
"Presents." Effie chimes in, I can see her eyes are humid though, "for you three."
She hands me, Haymitch and Peeta a small box.
"What is this?" Haymitch asks, opening his box and finding inside a golden bracelet resembling flames, I open mine and find a golden ring, similar to Haymitch's bracelet.
"Your token, remember?" Effie tells him, "hair for me, pin for Katniss. Gold bangle for you, gold ring for Y/n and for Peeta the medallion we talked about."
"Thank you, Effie." Peeta says, voice soft with gratitude.
"We're a team." She says, "aren't we?"
I can tell she cares so much about this two, it warms my heart.
Katniss nods, giving her a sweet smile.
"Of course we are." I agree.
"And I am so proud of my Victors," she says, hugging Peeta, "so proud" she hugs Katniss, "you both deserved so much better." She's fully crying now, so I gently rub her back, "I am truly sorry."
She lets out one last small sob and walk away leaving us four.
"Thank you, both." Peeta hugs Haymitch while Katniss wraps her arms around me.
"Thank you, Y/n. Really." She whispers and I nod, giving her one last squeeze before letting go.
I turn to hug Peeta.
"Don't lose yourself in there, okay?" I ask.
"Never." He hugs me tightly, "Thank you."
We pull away, I give him a smile, both to assure him and to give me strength.
"Any last advice?" Katniss asks Haymitch.
"Stay alive." He answers.
And we both walk away, though Katniss calls Haymitch back and I keep going towards the elevator.
To district 4 apartments.
I step into the room, looking around, I hear someone coming and my eyes lock with Mags'. With just one look, she knows why I'm here.
She walks to me to embrace me, squeezing me tighter to assure me she's okay.
I pull away to look at her.
"I'm sorry." I whisper and she shakes her head, puts a hand on her heart and hugs me one more time before walking away.
Soon after Finnick comes out, clearly looking for me. He softly smiles at me and shrugs.
"Hey," he greets, "think positively... You'll get to see me in action again."
I roll my eyes, I still keep a distance, none of us dare to step closer.
"Don't do anything stupid." I warn him.
"As if..." He's still smiling, "you got me out once. I trust you."
I nod, my eyes burn and I blink to keep the tears at bay.
"Stay alive long enough to let me." I say, softly, he nods.
We stay silent for a moment. I'm scared, I don't know what could happen in the arena, I don't know if any of the threats will hurt him, I don't know if he will survive...
I rush to him, I hug him tightly and he immediately reciprocates, holding me to him.
I don't need him to speak to know all he wants to say. That everything is going to be okay, that we will get them all out, that we will finally go to 13 and start this rebellion... just like I don't need him to speak to know he's scared, just like me.
I don't want to let go, I just want to stay like this, in the warmth of his arms.
He kisses the top of my head, giving me one last squeeze before pulling away just enough to look at me.
"I trust you." He repeats, "my love."
I nod, determined to get him and everyone out of there.
I see him moving a hand to my face, wiping away a tear I haven't noticed. He keeps the hand there and I really wish I could just give in... for once.
Thankfully, or not, we hear the elevator's doors opening so we pull away, I quickly wipe my face from any possible tear and pull myself together.
"Is there any... oh!" Cal's voice makes me jump, I wasn't expecting him at all, "My princess! What are you doing here?"
I can sense his tone is accusatory and I don't like it, not one bit.
"I was simply wishing him and Mags good luck for the games, Cal." I quickly explain, I can see in the corner of my eyes Finnick nodding his head, forcing out his confident smile.
"Aw... how sweet." Cal says, flatly, which means he is either not convinced or he doesn't like it, both option aren't good.
"But what are you doing here?" I ask, walking to him.
"Oh you know," he starts, wrapping an arm around me, possessively, "general's duties to perform. After the caos in the theatre we wanted to make sure there were no more... inconveniences." He says looking straight at Finnick, whose expression turns serious, angry.
"Well, as you can see, everything is in order." I tell him, putting a hand on his chest, maybe this will distract him.
"Is it?" Again with the accusatory tone.
"Of course." I smile, "why wouldn't it be?"
Cal considers me for a moment, that seems endless, he then smiles, as if to appease me.
"No reason, of course." He turns to look at Finnick, tightening his grasp on me, "May the odds be ever in your favour."
"Thanks, Cal." Finnick nods, " I can't wait to be back to you."
Finnick says this both to show Cal he's not scared and also as a message for me.
"Neither can I." Cal say through gritted teeth.
He then walks back to the elevator, dragging me to with him.
I take one last glance at Finnick, his fists clenching, he winks at me before I have to turn away from him.
Cal's arm is still around me when the doors close.
"Is there anything you want to tell me?" He asks.
"Uhm... no?" I pretend to be confused, "why? Is something wrong?"
I turn to face him, but his hand is suddenly grabbing me by the neck, pushing me against the elevator's wall. My eyes widen and immediately hold his wrist to push him off.
"You wouldn't lie to me, would you, my sweetness?" He asks, with a sweet tone, which terrifies me even more.
"No... Cal..." I weakly mutter out.
"No?" He asks again.
"Of... of course not." I keeo try to push him away, "you're.. you're hurting me, Cal." I choke out.
"I hope you enjoy your little job..." he move his face closer to mine, "because once we're married... you belong to me, my princess, do you understand?" He growls, and I nod, "say it."
"I... I understand." Speaking feels so hard.
"Good girl." He smiles.
"Let... let go..." I ask, never once stopped pushing at his hand.
"Your fight is one of the things I love the most about you, you know?" He whispers, his lips too close to mine now, "but I won't tolerate it much longer."
I nod in understanding.
"Yes... C-cal." I say, after he slightly glared at me.
"Good girl." He says before kissing me.
He lets my neck go and I gasp for air, pushing him away as I catch my breath. His hand find its way into my hair, he grabs it and pulls me up again.
"Have a good night, tomorrow's is a big day." He whispers into my ear.
He leaves a kiss on my cheek, and thankfully the doors open again to the first floor, and he steps out of the elevator.
I still catch my breath, but when the doors close, I collapse on the floor. I can't keep in the sobs forming in my throat. I softly caress the skin of my neck, it's going to bruise tomorrow, I'll have to ask Effie to help me cover it up.
I take a very deep breath, pull the jacket around and wait for the elevator to arrive back to 12.
Everything is quiet and dark, maybe everyone is asleep, so I walk into the kitchen to get some water.
"Hey."
I jump and turn around, Peeta looks at me alarmed. I let out a sigh of relief once I see him.
"Sorry... hi." I say.
"Are you okay?" He cautiously walks closer.
"Yeah... yeah, I'm okay, Peeta." I tell him, I notice his eyes are on my neck and I quickly cover it.
"What happened?" He asks.
"Nothing, really don't worry about me." I smile at him.
"You remember my first night here?" He asks and I nod, sighing as I already know what he's hinting at, "I asked you not to worry about me, but you ignored me, stayed and helped me feel better."
"That was different," I try to smile, "you were about to face death. I'm not."
"But you're my friend." He states.
I look at him, it warms my heart, I know we all created a bond, but hearing him openly calling me a friend makes my heart ache in a good way.
I sigh, deciding to just tell him.
"I met Cal in the elevator." I say, "he found me talking to Finnick and... he definitely didn't like it." I see him opening his mouth to say something, "I'm okay. And I can handle him."
"It... it shouldn't be like that..."
"Just like you all being thrown into an arena to fight for your life." I sadly smile, "I'm okay, Peeta, really."
He nods, gives me one last look, to check on me, and walks back to his room.
I sit in the kitchen, still caressing the skin of my neck. It hurts. I let the tears fall freely.
I need this to go well, we all need this to go well, I don't think I would survive this time if I lose them all...
I wouldn't want to survive.

I changed it just a little to fit. Hope the anon who asked this will read it and will like it.❤️❤️
Tumblr media
I always loved it when the twins invited me over, whether it was for Christmas or summer.
It always feels like home.
When I was not at Hogwarts, I lived in an orphanage, so experiencing the Wealseys, experiencing a family, definitely felt good.
Maybe this is why they invite me so often, and I'm grateful for that. I usually spend time with Arthur, explaining the muggle world to him, or with the twins and their siblings playing Quidditch, or helping Molly cooking. Which is exactly what I'm doing now.
"Yes, exactly dear. Then you fold it towards you carefully." She instructs me as I knead the dough for the pie.
"Are you done stealing our friend, mom?" One of the twins asks as they both enter the kitchen, and I notice Molly playfully rolling her eyes.
"Yeah, mom, she is our friend." George agrees with his brother.
"She didn't steal me!" I defend, "I asked if I could help her."
"You don't need to do that." Fred tells me.
"Yeah, she already loves you." George adds, "probably more than she loves us."
"Oh shut up, you two." Molly laughs, waving them off.
"See? She is not denying it!" George feigns offence.
"I'm just spending time with my favourite assistant." Molly explains.
I smile at her as I finally finish my own pie.
"You're done." Fred notices, "C'mon, let's go."
"Why?" I ask, wiping my hands on a towel.
"You're our partner."
"And we have business to discuss."
I roll my eyes and look at Molly with an apologetic smile.
"Don't worry, dear. Humour them." She laughs again with that sweet motherly smile that always warms my heart.
"I'll come back later." I tell her.
I have no idea how I, mostly quiet and reserved, got friends with the loudest people at Hogwarts. But it happened, and now I basically help them run their shop in Diagon Alley.
Now, more than ever, I want to help them keep the shop open I this hard and dark time... that, after Dumbledore's death, will probably get worse.
I follow the twins to their room.
I take my seat next to Fred on his bed, and George sits on his.
"So... what was so urgent?" I ask.
"Oh nothing," Fred smiles proudly.
"I hate you." I say.
"You love us." George chimes in, "but we wanted to discuss the new products."
"Alright, alright. " I chuckle.
So we start to discuss what kind of things to start selling, at what price, how to organise the shelf and stands.
A good hour and a half, or a bit more, passes because Molly calls everyone down for dinner.
Finally, I'd say, I'm starving... especially for Molly's cooking.
"About time!" Fred exclaims.
"I'm starving!" George voices loudly, too.
"Same." I groan, following them down.
As we get down, I see the other Weasleys gathering around the table.
There's a new face, though, someone I've never seen before.
"Oh, look who finally decided to join us!" Fred says in his usual teasing tone.
"He's the missing one." George tells me, "you can finally say you've met the whole family."
"Uh?"
"Bill!" George calls the tall man.
"Hi, George." The guy names Bill turns to George with a playfully annoyed face, and I notice an earring with a fang dangling from his ear.
"Meet our friend." Fred chimes in, "she met everyone except you... and we've been friends for years and years and years and years -"
"I get it, Freddie, thanks." Bill laughs.
"Come, Y/n." George calls.
As soon as his brown eyes meet mine, he freezes, I see him opening and closing his mouth without letting out a sound.
I'm quite confused.
"Hi." I gently wave at him, "I'm Y/n. It's nice to meet you."
I extend my hand towards him, and he watches it for a moment before taking it and shaking it.
"Likewise, I'm William... but, of course, you can call me Bill." He says, a little flustered.
"I like the earring." I tell him to maybe make him feel more at ease.
"Oh," he laughs, "Thank you. See, mom? It's appreciated."
"I give up." I hear Molly saying.
I stop for a second, noticing just now the scars on his face, and I wonder how he got them.
He notices me looking at them and quickly turns his head.
"Well, it was really nice to meet you, Y/n. I hope to see you around." He says before taking a seat at the table.
"Yeah, me too." I say quietly, sitting next to George.
I hope I didn't offend him...
-----------------
I sit outside, enjoying the early breeze, and I read a book. These moments are my favourite. After all these years, the Wealsey silently adopted me basically, which means I do have a family. But the first times I was invited, I would just sit here in the quiet of the mornings and pretend I belong here.
"I thought I was the only early riser." A chuckle snaps me out of my thoughts, Bill closes the door and wraps a small blanket around himself against the early cold.
"You thought wrong." I smile at him and move a little aside to let him sit.
"Aren't you cold?" He asks, sitting down.
"I'm fine, thank you." I say, I see him giving me a sceptical look and putting half of the blanket around me too.
"Sure." He says, and I laugh.
We stay in a comfortable silence for a while before he speaks up.
"Egypt?" He asks.
"Uh?" I turn to him, and he motion to my book, "Oh. Yeah, I always find it so fascinating, for some reason."
"It really is." He agrees, "I got the chance to explore it because of my job, and I have to say it deserves the appeal."
"Really? What kind of job?" I ask, genuinely curious. The twins never talk a lot about their siblings.
"Curse-breaker." He says with a shy smile.
"Oh wow..." I sigh, "that's really cool."
"Is it?" He laughs.
"Yes!" I reply, surprised he doesn't agree, "you don't like it?"
"No, no, it's not that." He says, "most thinks it's pretentious."
"Nah, don't listen to them. They must be idiots." I tell him.
"Fred and George mostly." He adds.
"Doesn't make my statement false." I kid, and he laughs.
"I can see why they like you so much." He chuckles.
"I wasn't like this when I first met them..." I start, "so I really don't understand why they wanted to be my friends in the first place."
"Like what? Funny?" He asks, "or cute?" He adds so quietly I could barely hear it.
"Uhm... I... I don't know..." I stutter out.
"Sorry... sorry, I didn't mean to... it just came out... I'm sorry." He shakes his head, "Uhm... but tell me... uh, how did you meet the two idiots?"
"Well..." I clear my throat, smiling shyly at him, "they kind of bumped into me... while running from Filch."
"Yeah... I can definitely see that." He laughs again, I'm glad he doesn't feel so awkward anymore.
"Then... I kind of helped them hide." I say.
"Well, now I'm surprised." He teases sweetly, making me feel warm inside... it's a new sensation and... weird, but in a good way.
"Yep." I chuckle, "later that week they found me in the library and just... wanted to thank me, so they just stuck around, and now we're here."
"Thankfully." He says, and I look up at him, "Uhm..." he quickly averts his eyes, "I mean, everyone seems to love you so much... and I'm sure mom's happy she gained another daughter."
"Well," I let out a small laugh, "I gained a mother so... it's a win-win situation."
He looks back at me, a confused smile on his face.
"What do you mean?"
"I live... well, lived in an orphanage... so no parents." I tell him with a shrug.
"Oh..." he softly sighs.
"Oh, please, no. I'm sorry... don't feel bad." I softly laugh to let him know it's not a big deal, "yeah, it was harder when I was younger, but now... now I'm fine. Really. Your family welcomed me with open arms. Wide open arms, actually."
I see him smiling, thankfully. The last thing I wanted was to make him feel uncomfortable... again.
"I'm glad they managed to make you feel at home, then." He says, "among the caos, I mean."
"Oh, trust me, the caos is part of the charm." I gently nudges his shoulder.
"Yeah, I have to agree." He nods, "when I spend so much time away, I do miss this caothic environment."
"I bet."
I look up at him, finding him already looking to me. His eyes are even more beautiful up close. As we start to naturally lean in towards each other, Molly's voice breaks the silence.
"Stop testing your products in my kitchen!" She yells to Fred and George... for sure.
Bill and I move away from each other. I clear my throat with an awkward chuckle and stand up.
"I should... I should probably help the twins with their things... so they won't burn the whole house down." I say.
"Yeah... of course." He avoids my eyes as he nods.
"I'll see you." I gently say and he nods once again so I just get back inside.
----------------
Later in the day more members of the Order arrive, with the intention of discussing the plan of moving Harry from his muggle house to the Wealsey's.
"That's the plan." Lupin says, once Moody stopped explaining the plan of having people drinking polyjuice potion to turn into Harry and confuse any deatheater in case there would be an attack.
"Sounds like fun." George comments.
"We're not asking you to participate, so if any of you isn't sure about it, can back down." Lupin explains with a heavy heart, "only whoever volunteers will drink the potion. And only if you're of age."
Everyone looks at each other, I catch eyes with the twins, I nod at them and they stand up.
"We're in." They say in unison.
"Me too." I stand, too.
"Of course we are too." Hermione says gesturing towards herself and Ron who nods.
I unconsciously search Bill's eyes across the room. He meets my gaze and I notice something in his look, he's worried. Of course he is... three of his brothers just volunteer for a very risky mission, but the way he looks at me with those brown eyes...
I mouth 'it's gonna be okay' and he nods, subtly, but his worried look remains.
"Mundungus too." Moody says, interrupting our silent conversation, and Fletcher just nods defeated.
"Let's pair up." Lupin claps his hands. "Each 'Potter' will be assigned to a protector."
"How would we do that?" I ask, curiosity taking the best of me.
"Using same old pieces of papers with names on." He smiles shrugging, "Everyone, write your name down."
"I want to be the one to bring Harry here. The real one." Hagrid chimes in, "it fair."
Lupin nods, he then takes two bowls, gently offered by Mrs Weasley.
"Here the Harrys," he brings up the bowl in his left hand, "and here the protectors." He lifts the one in the right one.
We all do as he instructed.
He then sits down and starts taking out names.
Each one is assigned and only four people are left.
"Hermione, you'll be assigned to... Kingslay." Remus announces.
I see Kingslay sending Hermione a reassuring nod and she gives one back.
"So that leaves Y/n and... oh, Bill." Lupin says.
"Okay, everyone knows their places, right? We're leaving in an hour." Moody announces, sternly.
Everyone scatter around to get ready, so I take the opportunity to just step outside and take a big breath.
I'm not sure how I got tangled in this whole magic war, but I'm glad I did... even though it's scary.
"Are you okay?" I hear Bill's voice getting closer.
"Yeah, of course." I nod.
"You don't have to do it, you know?" He tells me.
"I know." I smile at him, "I'm not gonna lie, I'm scared, so scared I'm surprised I can still move."
He softly laughs.
"You're really brave." He then tells me.
"I'm no braver then the others," I reply, shrugging.
"You don't give yourself enough credit, I think." He nudges my shoulder.
"Thank you." I say softly, "I'm glad I got paired up with you."
"Me too. I promise to bring you home safe and sound."
"I promise too."
His soft smile makes me almost melt, if it wasn't for the cold breeze, it makes me feel safe, feels like home.
"Did the Twins warn you about the wedding?" He then asks.
"Charlie's? Yes, they did." I nod, "I think... is there something I should know?"
"No, well... if you can, try to avoid aunt Muriel." He whispers, as if he's afraid she might be here to hear it.
"I'll just stick to your side, then, you're my protector after all." I kid and I see his face getting a bit red.
"Well.. uh... of course." He stutters, "I'd rather fight deatheaters than deal with her anyway."
I genuinely laugh, unconsciously I lean my head on his shoulder and I feel him tense.
"Sorry." I say and straighten up.
I just look up at him and he does the same.
"No worries," he swallows.
He seems nervous, but not uncomfortable.
I don't know why I feel this pull towards him everytime we talk, but it's a nice feeling. I just hope I'm not making him uneasy or anything.
I catch his eyes looking down at my lips and mine falls to his.
Suddenly, he moves back, bringing a hand up to cover his scars, I can't help but look at him confused.
"Sorry," he lets out a nervous chuckle and stands, "I..."
He doesn't say anything more and just gets back inside, leaving me dumbfounded.
--------------
The clouds don't help spotting the bunch of deatheaters chasing us, I try to keep as many eyes out as I can, so I can help Bill who also has to guide the thestral.
Suddenly, I spot three hooded figures flying towards us.
"There are three coming!" I warn Bill.
I cast spells like never before, trying to stop them from coming any closer.
Some deatheater manages to hit me, luckily it's nothing major, but I let out a scream nonetheless.
"Are you okay?" Bill asks, blindly reaching behind him to check on me.
"Yes, don't worry."
I look around, and I can vaguely see Madeye and Mundungus far from us.
I stare at them, ready to interfere in case they need it, when I see a dark figure appearing...
"Shit!" I exclaim.
"What?"
"He's here." I say.
"Fuck! Hold onto me." He says before turning the thestral around abruptly, but something catches my eyes.
"Wait!" I tell him.
"What's wrong?" He asks, breathless.
"Madeye he-" I start, but get interrupted by one more deatheater flying to us.
I got to cast one last spell to take down the last enemy I can see, before Bill starts to bring us down... ready to reach the portkey.
"What did you say?" Bill asks again, reaching behind again to be sure I'm still here.
"Madeye, I saw him falling from his broom." I tell him, tears already forming in my eyes.
"What? How?"
"I think, Mundungus tried to get away as soon as he saw him appearing... Madeye tried to keep him from going anywhere, but... you-know-who killed him." I say, trying to keep my breath as steady as I can, "I say a green light..."
"Ssh, sshh, it's okay." He tries to calm me down as we arrive to the portkey.
"I'm sorry.." I mutter.
"About what?" He asks, sadly turning to face me, "it wasn't your fault, you know?"
"What if I warned you earlier? What if I..." I lower my eyes to my hands.
"Hey, hey, look at me," he says, and I do, "it was no one's fault. We couldn't know."
"Yeah..."
He gently takes one of my hands and caress it gently.
"He wouldn't want you to cry for him, right?" He says, smiling in hope to make me smile too.
"He would probably scold me for it." I let out a weak laugh.
"Exactly." He kisses the back of my hand and then rides towards the portkey, that teleports us in front of the Burrow.
We see almost everyone else already here.
I can see Remus and Tonks close to each other, Harry, Ron and Hermione too. I spot Kingslay, I think I can see Hagrid inside, but there's something wrong.
I can't see Mr Weasley or Fred, maybe they're just not here yet... but Remus is here, so... where's George?
I get down from the magical horse and run into the house, as I do I lock eyes with Remus' guilty expression and I just run faster.
I rush into the house and spot Molly caressing George's hair, as I get close I notice the blood on him.
"George..?" I weakly call and Molly turns to me, she sends a sad smile towards me and I kneel in front of the sofa to take a better look at George.
"George." I call again.
"He's alive, dear... just a dark spell..." she reassures me.
"How?" I shakily ask, more to George than Molly.
I hear fast footsteps rushing in too and Fred is just beside me. This makes me feel so much better.
They're both still alive.
"How are feeling, Georgie?" Fred asks his twin.
George slowly open and closes his mouth before speaking.
"Saintlike..." he says, and I let out a relieved laugh, "I'm holey, I'm holey, Fred. You get it?"
"With the whole wide world of ear-related humour, you go for 'I'm holey'. Pathetic." Fred teases back, I notice he says this finally letting his shoulder relax.
"Well, Y/n still finds me the most handsome of the pair, I reckon." He subtly winks in my direction.
"I'm letting this one slide because you're hurt. And clearly brain damaged, if you make that joke of all you could choose from." I chuckle moving my hand out to caress his.
I notice now that everyone has gotten inside, i spot Bill's tense, yet relieved expression.
"Madeye is dead." He says and everybody looks at him.
"You-know-who killed him." I say. "Mundungus disappeared and he was caught off guard... I think."
I sense George's and Fred's hands on mine, for comfort and solidarity.
----------------
A wedding sounds absurd considering the times we're living, yet it seems exactly what we need.
A knock on the door catches my attention.
"Yes?"
"Are you decent?" Fred's teasing voice calls from the other side.
"Sure." I laugh and he comes in.
"Are you ready?" He asks.
"Yap." I say, turning to look at him, "oh, look at you, never seen you so cleaned up."
"I take offence in that." He feigns hurt, "take it back."
"Oh, you know you're always so stylish." I stick my tongue out to him.
"That's what I thought." He winks, "I'm the most handsome of the pair."
"Sure." I laugh and sit on the bed to put on my shoes. "Is everything ready downstairs?"
"Yap, all guests are here. The party is ready to begin." He declares.
"Nice." I nod.
"Are you okay?" He asks, I can hear a hint of worry in his voice.
"Yeah."
"C'mon," he says sitting next to me, "tell Freddie what's bothering you."
"It's nothing, Fred, really." I try to divert the subject.
"You don't fool me, young lady." He slightly glare at me.
I sigh.
"Plotting without me?" I look up to see George standing by the door, the bandages on his head as a reminder of the night before...
"We could never." I say.
"Our Y/n here has something on her mind." Fred is quick to say.
"I don't..." I say... not very convincing.
"Uh uh. Tell us." George sit on the other side of me.
"Do you think... uh... did I do something wrong to Bill?" I ask, quietly.
I can sense them sharing a look.
"Whatever do you mean, love?" George asks.
"It's just... sometimes it's like he wants to be anywhere else but near me... and maybe I did something to him... but I don't know what." I explain.
"Do you have a crush on our brother, L/n?" Fred asks teasingly.
"What? No, no... I just ... ugh!" I say laying back down on the bad covering my face with my arms. I hear them softly laughing.
"I'm sure you did nothing wrong." George says, "Bill's just... Bill."
"Yeah, whatever it is, I'm sure it has nothing to do with you. Stop worrying your pretty little head." Fred nudges me.
I nod, understanding, not entirely convinced, but I appreciate their effort.
"And..." George's teasing tone makes me glare at him, already knowing what he wants to say, "if you have a crush on him, we could help you..."
"I'm sure we really should be going, you know, plus I'll see if Molly need any help." I say standing up and quickly make my way downstairs.
As I rush down the stairs I bump into someone.
"Oh, I'm so so sorry." I say.
"No worries." Bill says and I instantly look up at him, feeling a little embarrassed since I've been talking about him with the twins a few minutes ago.
"Uh... sorry" I repeat, looking away.
"It's no problem. Really." He smiles at me.
"I... I was looking for... for you mother..." I stutter out, "to see if she needed any help."
"Oh she was just outside, still congratulating Charlie and... crying too." He lets out a soft chuckle and I do too.
"Then I'll go congratulate him too, didn't get the chance yet." I smile at him and start walking out, looking for Charlie and Mrs Weasley and I find them right outside the big tent.
"Hey," I say as I near them, "congratulations, Charlie."
"Aahh, Y/n! Thank you!" He says cheerfully, once I'm close enough he brings me in for a big hug, which I reciprocate.
"I'm so happy for you." I tell him, "she seems like a sweet person... or... better a patient one." I tease.
"Alright, that's it." He says letting me go, "you're spending too much time with the twins. I'm adopting you."
"That's my duty," Molly chimes in, linking arms with me.
"Exactly, Charlie, stop stealing your mother's job." I jokingly glare at him, he smiles at me and then his eyes move to something behind me. I turn around seeing Bill walking to us.
"Congratulations, mate." Bill hugs Charlie and pat his back.
"Aah thank you! I'm so happy." Charlie has the biggest smile on his face right now, and it fills me with joy.
"You deserve it. I've never seen you so in love." Bill says.
"Well, I just hope you will experience it too, mate." Charlie sighs, "it's really the best feeling."
I smile at his words, he really loves his family... everyone in this family loves each other so much, it makes me feel at peace.
"Yeah... I can tell." I hear Bill say, I notice Charlie looking at me with a weird look.
"I'm sure you do," he then adds.
"Oh! Charles!" A voice calls from behind us, an old lady is walking towards us.
Molly is gone immediately, and Bill gently takes my arm to lead me away.
"That's... aunt Muriel." He whispers to me.
"Oh..." I chuckle, "thanks."
"No problem, I am your protector." He tells me and we enter the tent.
"Oh wow.." I say, "it looks really good."
"Yeah, I think despite the situation, Charlie got a great wedding anyway. Which makes me very happy." He tells me, and I notice just now he's sort of caressing my arm with his fingers.
"Yeah... I... I think he deserves it. You know, this is how I always wanted my wedding to look like, if I'm being honest." I say, "that... if I ever got married, that is."
"What do you mean 'if'?"
"Well, to get married you would need to find someone you love and someone who loves you" I explain with a shrug and a heavy heart.
"I'm sure.... I'm sure, you will have no problem in that." He tells me.
"I'm not so sure." I say, shrugging.
We reach a table and we both sit down, and I go back at looking around.
"It really is beautiful." I breath, "you all did a great job."
I turn to look at Bill, once again, already finding him looking at me.
"I think anyone would be lucky to marry you." He softly says, and it takes me a little off guard that my cheeks suddenly feel warm and I look away from him.
The music suddenly starts and we both turn to look at Charlie and his wife dancing for the first time as husband and wife. It's such a happy moment I don't want to miss one bit of it.
Soon enough more people join the happy couple and I too start to slightly move my feet to the rhythm. A hand is suddenly on top of mine, gaining my attention.
"Do you...do you want to d-dance?" Bill asks, stuttering a bit.
"Yes." I simply say.
We stand and walk towards the other people dancing, he carefully put his hands on my waist and I shyly put mine on his shoulders and we start moving with the music.
"This is my favourite parts of weddings." I casually say, to break the awkward silence.
"The dancing?"
"Yeah, everyone looks so happy, and it's the most peaceful part of it." I explain, "you know, everything coming before the 'yes' is like tense and uncertain. 'What if they change their mind?' Or 'what if something happens?', it's all about 'what ifs'. But the dancing... is when everything is settled and everyone is happy and can let out a sigh of relief. Does it make sense?" I chuckle.
"Makes complete sense. I kind of agree with you." He smiles, "I'll tell you a secret... Charlie was so nervous since he asked her."
"What? Really?" I ask in disbelief.
"Yeah!" He laughs, "he was so afraid she would change her mind any moment. There was one day I was visiting him, he told me he was actually waiting an owl to deliver him a letter saying she wouldn't marry him anymore. That's how tense he was."
"Oh, poor thing." I laugh, looking to Charlie dancing with his mother now, how happy he looks now.
"Yeah, took me several hours to convince him that was not the case." He tells me.
We laugh together for a moment before our eyes lock for the millionth time.
"Can..." I start, "can I ask you something?"
"Of course." He nods.
"Have I... have I made you uncomfortable in some ways?" I ask.
"What? No... of course not." He answers quickly.
"Are you sure?" I check, "I mean, you can tell me. Really it's no problem."
"I'm sure. You didn't do anything to make me feel uncomfortable." He replies, "I promise."
"Okay..." I nod, with small smile. "If I did something, though, I'm sorry."
"I promise, you have nothing to be sorry for." He reassuringly smiles at me, I smile back.
We stay in silence, looking at each other and, again, I feel the same pull towards I felt before, but this time, before anything could remotely happen, Kingslay's patronus appears.
It says the minister is dead and that the deatheaters are coming here...
The caos emerges as soon as the enemy arrives.
I look up at Bill.
"Stay close to me." He tells me and I nod.
We start fighting along the others, most guests disappear, most remains and fight.
I cast as many protection spells as I can while Bill and the other defends.
I can see Harry, Ron and Hermione disappear. Thankfully. But my attention is caught by another red-haired fighting far from me.
I rush to Ginny without even thinking and stand beside her, Lupin joins us soon.
A caos of "stupeficium" "expelliarmus" and "protego" surrounds us.
I spot someone aiming at a distracted Ginny, instinctively I step in between them, I try to yell, but too late.
I feel myself falling to the ground.
---------------
It's dark, I can hardly open my eyes, but I hear voices around me.
"She's gonna be fine." I hear someone says.
"Are you sure?" A pair of voices, this time, asks.
"Yes, I am."
I weakly open my eyes and move to sit up.
"Hey, hey, careful there." I recognise Bill's voice.
"What... what happened?" I ask, finally being able to look around. Noticing Fred and George too, I notice this is not a room I recognise.
"What happened?!" George asks shocked, "what happened she asks!"
"Unbelievable!" Fred agrees.
"So..?" I urge.
"You took a stunner for Ginny. A dark one." Bill explains.
"What were you thinking?!" Fred asks.
"I just saw him aiming at your sister and went on autopilot, I think." I say.
"What if it was a killing curse?" George basically yells.
"Could you not shout please?" I ask weakly.
They both sigh heavily and look at each other.
"You're okay." Bill chimes in from his place by the door, "that's important." He says this last bit more to the twins than to me.
"You scared the hell out of us." George says.
"Yeah, we thought we lost you." Fred nods.
"I'm sorry..." I mutter.
"No, we're sorry for yelling." Fred sighs, "we're thankful you're okay... and thank you for protecting Ginny."
I open my arms, asking them for a hug and they do, careful not to hurt me too much they wrap their arms around me.
"Where are we?" I ask, once they pulled away.
"Shell cottage." They both answer.
"In Cornwall." George keeps going, "it's by the sea."
"Oh... Nice."
"Yeah, we'll be using it as a refuge for a while." Freds explain.
"Especially until you feel better." Bill adds.
"We know you like the sea, so maybe it would help your recovery." George says, hopeful.
"I hope so." I smile at them.
"Let's leave her, boys, she need her rest not you two pestering her." Bill teases his brothers.
"We're not!" They both say, standing up and heading to the door.
"A little." I joke.
"You better rest well, young lady." Fred scolds me before following his brother out.
"I'll bring up some tea. Now rest." With this Bill exits and closes the door.
I lay back down, take a deep breath and close my eyes, hoping to get some sleep.
--------------
The sweet smell of the tea gently wakes me up.
I slowly open my eyes, noticing some rays of sun peaking through the windows.
I sit up, determined to stand up and walk downstairs. I put some clothes on and weakly walk out the room, holding onto the wall just in case.
I make my way downstairs, happy to hear voices coming from what I can imagine is the kitchen.
"Why don't you just tell her, mate?" Fred, I think, says.
"What do you mean why?" Bill asks back.
"What do you mean, what do we mean why?" George replies, "do you like her?"
"I..."
"Of course, he does!" Fred intervenes.
"Then why don't you freaking tell her?" George repeats the question.
Now, I can't help but eavesdrop. Curiosity taking the best of me.
"Have you seen me recently?" Bill snaps.
"Bill..." George starts, but he's interrupted.
"No, George." Bill's serious tone, makes my heart ache, "how could she like me back when I look like this? Uh?"
"Bill, do you think she cares?" Fred's tone got more gentle.
"We know her, mate." George tries to reassure him.
"No." Bill firmly states, "she deserves better. You should know it, she deserves someone who doesn't look like a freak, and most definitely she doesn't deserve a werewolf in her life. What if I hurt her? What if..." he chokes. I can't see him, but I can tell he's crying.
"You love her, don't you?" Fred asks... or rather, states.
"Of course, he does." George confirms, "look how scared he is!"
"Of course, I'm scared!" Bill snaps again, "The closest thing to love at first sight l've ever experienced happened when I first laid eyes on her... and it pains me how much I want to be with her, but knowing she doesn't deserve to end up with someone like me..."
That's enough, I walk up to them and their head turn up to look at me, Bill's eyes widening at my sight.
"I think that's up to me to decide." I tell him, looking him dead in the eyes.
"I..." He's at loss words.
"We'll leave you to it." The twins says and walk out.
I sit down, so I can face Bill, I slightly wince as I do.
"Careful..." he whispers, "you... you should be resting."
"You'll soon realise I don't usually do what I'm supposed to do." I smile at him.
We stay silent, none of us knowing what to say.
"Sorry." He then says.
"What for?" I ask.
"I..." he lets out a nervous chuckle, "I don't even know..."
"Was that true?" I finally ask.
"I'm afraid so..." he sighs.
"Then, I'm afraid you're stuck with me." I say, feeling bold enough to take his hand.
"I..." he look at our hands, "you mean...?"
"Yes..."
"But... you don't have to... I know you deserve something better than this." He tries to make me... reason I think, I softly laugh at this.
"Better than a hot, long-haired, curse-breaker with the kindest smile eyes I've ever seen? I'm not so sure about it." I grin at him, "what you felt the first time we met... I'm pretty sure I felt it too."
"Really?"
"Of course, I think if there was ever anybody meant for me, it's you."
He looks at me with the biggest smile, lets out a relieved laugh and comes closer to kiss me.
I'm a little taken aback, but I quickly kiss him back, my hand moves up to his cheek softly caressing his scars while his is in my hair gently playing with it.
Once we pull away we hear cheering from the other room, and we laugh watching Fred and George coming into view clapping their hands.
"Finally!"
"Good job!"
"Go away you two!" Bill scolds them.
"Hey!" They call, "no naughtinesses while we're here, alright!"
They go away and leave us officially alone.
I look at Bill and he does the same.
"I love you." He whispers, coming closer once again.
"I love you too" I say before kissing him again.
And again.
And again.
And... again.
