INTRODUCTORY POST! (long post ahead but please do give it a read)
I'm a third year med student from India who's also planning to start step 1 prep(have been for a while😶) I will be posting (hopefully) daily snippets of my study sessions and student life..
The inspiration to start a blog struck a few years ago, while I was watching the movie Julie and Julia.
I had started a studyblr soon after but I have been unable to post there anymore because I have recently come to the realisation that one of my close friends did not respect my wishes for privacy was keeping tabs of my blog without my knowledge.. I'm not sure since how long, but once I found out, I just completely lost interest in posting there..
To me, tumblr was a place to just be myself and get to know you wonderful people and a time to be away from my usual circle.. I'm an introvert myself and so having a space that I called my mine meant a great deal to me, and to know that it was violated by someone close really got to me..
So this is a fresh start, and it was a difficult decision, because that was a blog I really held close to my heart but I suppose all good things come to an end..
Few of my favorite studyblrs who have always inspired me to do better - @myhoneststudyblr @a-young-doctors-journey @ontrackmind @medemedemed @medicineinside @starrystvdy @studyblr @eintsein @lee-sarahh @emmastudies @medcury @studyquill @studylustre @studydiaryofamedstudent @academedical @academiix @galina @usmlestar

lunlun's autumn studying challenge! #studyingunderthefallingleaves
Tumblr media
Hi and hello everyone! Welcome to my blog and my studying challenge! ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧ My name is Lunlun. I am creating this challenge because my uni started on October and I want to motivate myself and keep track of my studies. I hope you will participate and enjoy the challenge too!
• How to participate?
Just reblog this post! You don't need to follow me or anything like that. And do not forget to post your posts with the hashtag #studyingunderthefallingleaves so that everyone can see your posts! You do not need to start at a certain date. I wouldn’t even mind if you started the challenge during summer :] Just try to enjoy it and make sure you’re taking breaks and taking good care of yourself!
• Prompts:
Day 1: Welcome! Let’s start with a simple question: What is your major/What do you study?
Day 2: Share your goals for this challenge. What do you want to accomplish by the end of it?
Day 3: What does autumn mean for you?
Day 4: Share a song that has autumn vibes with us.
Day 5: Why did you choose your major/what you study?
Day 6: Are there other languages you learn besides your native langauge? If so, which ones?
Day 7: What is the best place to study for you in autumn?
Day 8: What do you like to drink while you study? You can share the recipe if you want!
Day 9: Do you have a memory, which happened during autumn, you remember with a smile on your face?
Day 10: What is your favorite thing about your major? Why?
Day 11: Which one of your courses do you like the most? And the one you just can’t like no matter what you do?
Day 12: Do you have any studying methods you use? If so, share them with us (please *sobs*)!
Day 13: Which one do you prefer: Digital devices and online platforms or notebooks and books? And why?
Day 14: Share a picture of your favorite pen/pencil!
Day 15: You’ve finished the half of the challenge (for now as more prompts will be added), so let’s look back at your goals. Are you getting closer to accomplishing them?
Day 16: Share an article you’ve read and enjoyed recently.
Day 17: What is your favorite thing about having a studyblr blog?
Day 18: Share a YouTube channel and/or a podcast you like to watch/listen that inspires you.
Day 19: How was your day? You can talk about anything; vent or share a moment. I personally am willing to hear!
Day 20: Where are you from and how is the school system in your country? As a prospective teacher, I like to hear about different education systems. For example, in my country, we have a 4+4+4 system where students study elementary, middle school and high school (seperately) for four years. Most departmens in universities are also for four years; however, medicine students, for example, have to study for six years.
Day 21: Share a random fact you know.
Day 22: What is your best feature according to you?
Day 23: Okay, you have to praise yourself with at least two sentences. Go! I am listening!
Day 24: What do you think about homeworks? Do you think they are necessary or just burden for students?
Day 25: What was your favorite subject as a child?
Day 26: What advice would you give to people who want/will start to study your major?
Day 27: What book are you reading right now? Do you like it so far?
Day 28: Share a playlist you listen to while studying.
Day 29: What is your favorite autumn food?
Day 30: It’s been a month already! How are you feeling? Is keeping up with the challenge tiring? Have you enjoyed it so far? Please share your thoughts!
• From Lunlun: I will add more prompts later, probably for 30 days again. I am posting this part for now as if I try to write more now, I know it’ll take more time for me to share the challenge and don’t wanna miss autumn!

6 Things People Don't Always Tell You About Studying
1. you ace tests by overlearning. you should know your notes/flashcards/definitions basically by heart. if someone asks you about a topic when you’re away from class or your notes and you can answer them in a thorough and and accurate answer, then you’re good, you know the material.
2. if you don’t understand something, it will end up on the test. so just don’t disregard and hope that this specific topic won’t be on the test. give it more attention, help, and practice. find a packet of problems on that one concept and don’t stop until you finish it and know it the best.
3. sometimes you just need that Parental Push. you know in elementary school, they would tell you “ok now it’s time for you to do your homework! you have a project coming up, start looking for a topic now!” ONE of your teachers might be like this. be thankful for it and follow their advice! these teachers are the best at always keeping you on track with their calendar. if not a teacher, then have one of your friends be that person that can keep you accountable for the things you promised you would do.
4. you just need to kick your own ass. seriously. i know it sucks and its hard to study for two things at once. BUT. I DONT CARE IF IT’S HARD. you need to do it and at least do it to get it over with because you can’t keep putting things off. If you do, you will eventually run out of time and you will hate yourself. force yourself to do it. i made myself sign up for june ACT even though there’s finals because if i didn’t, i probably never would. like do i think i’m gonna be ready in one month? probably not, SO I BETTER GET ON IT AND START STUDYING!
5. do homework even if it doesn’t count. if you actually try on it, then you will actually do so much better on the tests, it’s like magic.
6. literally just get so angry about procrastinating that you make yourself start that assignment. I know how hard it is to kick the procrastination habit. I have to procrastinate. So I make myself start by thinking about my deadlines way early. I think, “oh i have a presentation in three weeks (but it really takes 2 weeks to do), i’ll be good and start today.” when that doesn’t happen, you say you’ll do it tomorrow, and this happens for like the next four days. I get so mad at myself for not starting when i am given a new chance to do so with every passing day. By that time, you actually have exactly how much time you need for it AND you were able to procrastinate the same way you usually do ;)

HOPE
Sometimes something terrible happens to us. It shakes us to our core and makes us change without us even realizing. It changes us into this completely different version of ourselves,so drastic from our previous self  that we don't even remember who we used to be before.
It's like a dream. Did that person even exist?
When this happens, we have two options. We can either fight through the pain and pull through and make it to the other side; or, we can choose to let it defeat us. We can choose to let it run our life from now on. We can choose to wallow in self pity, because yes, life is unfair. Whatever happened shouldn't have happened. But it did. We need to accept that.
If we choose the second path, then, well, I guess that's it. We might as well be dead.
But, if we choose to fight through it, then I believe we can make something out of this misery, this overwhelming, earth shattering grief.
It isn't going to be easy, and it will hit you just when you think you're over it, when you think you're better. That's when we got to fight even harder.
It doesn't matter how long it's been.. We just got to keep fighting, cause eventually, someday, it will get better. We will be able to live with this grief and it won't seem as intense or all consuming as it does right now.
There's also the possibility that that may never happen. Our lives could just get worse. We may just have more grief that awaits us, but there's no way for us to know right now. So all we Can and should do, is hope. Hope that tmrw will be better. Hope that 5 years down the lane we're going to be living a life just the way we imagined. Hope that we'll end up with everything we've ever wanted. Hope that eventually, we will be happy.
But to get there, we need to work hard, right now(cause who else will?)
Somedays that can seem impossible, but we need to learn to work even on days we don't feel like it(especially such days)
We need to work hard and have faith, because if we don't, then it just looks really bleak doesn't it? A Future that's just filled with darkness and misery... and nobody wants that.
I mean, if we don't hope, then what's the point?
Isn't it easier just giving up?
Yes. It is easier just giving up. It's So much easier than living on and trying to get better. So much easier than waking up everyday too tired to get out of bed and just waiting for the day to end even before it's begun.
But, it is when we feel like this, when we feel like we absolutely cannot go on, that we must.
We owe it to the people who love us. People who go through so much more  just to see us happy;
And we've got to do it for ourselves. No one else can help us through this, help us get better. It's upto us. It's  naive of us to expect it and also a great burden to thrust upon anyone...
In the end, all we've really got to help us is ourselves, and That has got to be enough, because If it isn't, what the hell are we supposed to do?
So when everything seems bleak and dark and pointless, we need to hope. We need to believe. We need to have faith.
Take a deep breath and do the best you can do, and believe that tomorrow will be better. That tmrw this will get easier.

This is such a sensible quote.
It also reminded me of Harry Potter. There were so many times during the read that we had our heart ripped out by J. K. Rowling( for instance the death of Fred Weasley), but there were also times were she made us laugh( like the commentary in tge quidditch match during their third year, or the interaction between the Weasley twins and Peeves). I believe that that is an integral part of why the series became such a huge hit.

writing prompt #2: the reaper knocks
There's a thunderous knock at the door. You open it to find an improbably tall, black-robed figure towering over you with a scythe in one bony hand. The figure peers at you for a long moment, then looks down at a clipboard in its other hand. Then back at you. Then...

lost dog
After two years of toiling i had managed to get into the college of my dreams ,was set to start with courses i love ,had finally moved out and had managed to get a great place for myself. It wasn't the biggest or most luxurious ,but with a bit of tinkering i was able to turn into a cosy, comforting home. Life was good.
It just got better from then on, when i went and got myself a puppy. He was just the cutest husky- black and white with blue eyes.As soon as i laid my eyes on him, i knew that he was the one for me. Luckily he seemed to think along the same lines. I took him into my arms, and he was slobbering all over me and wagging his tail to the dozen.
Scooby would accompany me whenerever and wherever possible. He was loved by all and was even able to win my sister over ,who previously had dislaked pets of all kind.So you can imagine my surprise when i saw him barking at my niece during our family get together at my parents'place , with such ferociosness as never seen before. I was able to quieten him and dismissed the barking from my mind. I just assumed that it was due to my niece, who i perceived to be slightly odd. She just wasn't like kids her age. She never laughed or smiled, didn't play and she always had this icy glare.
The weekend passed with no other incidents and soon ,monday morning was upon us and we were all getting ready to get back to our daily lives. I woke up late that day because for some reason, Scooby didn't wake me up; and yes i know i shouldn't rely so much on my dog, but hey, he is a very reliable alarm. I didnt think of it much as i was running late already and assumed that one of my relatives may have let him out. But he did not return that day.
By evening i was hysterical, and my family members were upset as well. Well, almost all of them. Everyone but my niece seemed to be worried about Scooby. We spent hours looking for him, sent out fliers ,took to social media, but to no avail.
The next weekend we were all back at my parents' house mainly because i was distraught and it was just really depressing having to stay by myself at home. It was quite different from last week though. The atmosphere was quite tense and everybody solemn. Well everyone but my niece, who for the first time in her life seemed to be a normal kid, There she was playing with dolls and laughing. I had never even seen the kid smile! I mentioned it to my dad, and even though he seemed skeptical, he just asked me to let it go and be happy for sister.
Just as we were about to set out, we heard my mom screaming. All of us ran out onto the porch and there was Scooby in the distnace, limping towards us, his tail tucked between his legs, the usual sparkle absent from his eyes and he seemed extremely dirty. I didn't register any of this at that moment though, because i was just so relieved and happy to see him. I ran out to greet him and took him into my arms where he collapsed. He was bleeding from the numerous cut on his body but none of them seemed to be too severe. My family was right behind me and soon we were all fussing over him and slowly he started wagging his tail.
Finally , after what semed like forver, we all got up and got ready to go inside when i heard Scooby let out a heart-stopping ,menacing growl while facing our porch and whom do we find standung there? My niece, who had now lost all of that playful innocence which was pnce again replaced with that icy stare, holding a head-less doll in her hand.

#1 writing prompt: lost dog
his family dog has been missing for weeks, and everyone is devastated (except that one family member who was just never a dog person, of course). Suddenly, the dog returns, showing up out of nowhere. (Most of) the family rejoices. But as time goes by, it becomes clear that something isn't...

You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.
Most of us don't write because we fear that it may not be good. We fear judgment, rejection, criticism; but this should be the case. Writing helps us express ourselves, helps us put into words what we could not say. It is also a way of unwinding after a long day, for some. There is a multitude of reasons as to why people write and I am someone who believes that writing can be a wonderful process.
So, my intention through this blog is to make sure that I write on a regular basis, I am an amateur when it comes to writing, so I don't expect it to be great. I am hoping that there are at least a few of you out there who love writing but hesitate due to whatever reason. It may be because you're scared or because you can't think of what to say. That is something I can take care off through my blog.
I shall be posting a new creative writing prompt every week and my story or article based on it, and I am hoping that you guys will submit your piece of wonderful writing based on it as well.
happy writing people.
