Eddie tried to bite back his amused smile but didn't succeed when his next words had Buck grinning like a complete fool. "You. Me. Tonight. Wear something pretty." "Edmundo Diaz, are you trying to ask me out on a date?"

It’s never a big deal - most of the time it’s something along the lines of;

Eddie shakes his head. “Nope,” he replies, shrugs, and adds a few extra spoonfuls of sugar to Buck’s coffee before sliding it his way.

5 times the team tries to get Eddie and Buck to kiss under the mistletoe and the 1 time they do. Kinda.

It’s at a bar where they’d decided to get a drink after work. Eddie arrives a little after he does once he drops Christopher off at his aunt’s place and when he joins Buck at the table he pulls him into one of those casual, back-slapping kinds of hugs.

It’s nothing to write home about. It’s friendly, comfortable, but Eddie’s hands are warm on Buck’s back and for the briefest second Buck can feel Eddie’s smile imprinted against his shoulder before it’s over.

He puts it down to missing Abby that he finds himself thinking about it when he’s trying to fall asleep that night.

He's off the couch in half a second, heart pounding with adrenaline, at the kitchen counter before he even realizes that the familiar smell in his nose is burning insulation.

And his day just gets worse from there--as he ends up fileting off a strip of skin, bleeding everywhere, then accidentally hitting his talk-to-text and sending a ramble he never meant anyone to hear to the last person on earth to care: Eddie.

His brown hair is dishevelled on top of his head and his eyes look tired but then Buck notices the LAFD t-shirt so- alright. Someone from the firehouse, maybe? But he’s pretty sure he’d remember a face like that.

After getting hurt on a call, Buck wakes up thinking it's 2018. AKA Buck can't remember who Eddie is but he's pretty sure everyone's lying when they say they're "just friends."

Turning around, Buck sees Athena standing at the doorway, her hand still in the air. When she catches his eye, something in her expression shifts. He’s seen that expression before. Typically, she uses it on people who are about to flee arrest.

I fucking dare you.

Sighing, Buck gets on the RV.

After a call that is almost his last, Buck is having a hard time. He’s avoids his family, his friends, and everything in between. When Bobby suggests they go on a road trip, he almost laughs. But what’s worse? He actually says yes.

And Eddie, well, he doesn’t look scared exactly, but he looks angry and at least that is a feeling. It’s more than the numbness that is wrapping itself around every inch of Buck.

Out of the corner of his eye he catches the Crooked Smiled Man now standing in the dark entrance way to his bathroom. He swallows around the taste of blood in his mouth, hands shaking, useless as his list of contacts blur beneath the burn of tears.

He doesn’t know where the feeling comes from, but it’s sudden and sharp and excruciating. Eddie is the first name at the top of his list, his most recent calls and texts, and he doesn’t hesitate to hit the call button.

It’s—it could be worse. After the tsunami, he kept waking up with his sheets full of sand, soaked through and shivering. After Eddie was shot, he’d wake up with blood in his mouth, choking on the taste of it. When Maddie was gone, hiding herself away in Boston, and he missed her so much it ached, Buck had to fight against his mind not to bring her back from his dreams. That would have been hard to explain: waking up in bed with Taylor on one side and a carbon copy of his missing sister on the other. Car keys, at least, can be hidden.

Except it’s not just the car keys.

Buck was born with the ability to take things out of his dreams. It's not as much fun as you'd think.

Trust me, I know.” “I’m pretty sure it might actually be the end of the world,” Buck says. “Considering this is the sixth time I’ve lived this day.” Chimney stares at him for a beat and then his eyebrows lift. “Wait, are you like – dude, are you in Groundhog Day?”

The post-lawsuit time-loop AU literally no one asked for.

Sometimes, when Buck’s done a day too many times, he forgets that this day might be the real day, the one that continues on into the rest of his life. It’s exhausting dying and waking up just to go die again. And the thing was, when a death was to do with work, he knew he could just ask to be man behind, or not go into work, but - but who would he be condemning to die in his place if he didn’t go in and try to avoid it? Maybe no one, yes, but maybe someone.

Buck repeats days until he doesn't die in them, has an underdeveloped sense of self worth, and Eddie is the one who wants to step in with him.

Buck dies and instead of staying dead, the universe throws him three and a half years into the past to give Buck another shot.

He reaches out for the bedside table on his side of the bed they share, clumsily unplugs his phone one-handed. The screen lights up to a familiar wallpaper, and it's right there, just above the top of Buck's head: Wednesday.

or: buck breaks up with eddie, even if it means losing a part of himself, because it's the right thing to do. the universe decides to test that conviction.

The place was creepier than Buck remembered it from a few weeks ago, he was noticing scribbles on the walls, and sigils he was sure it hadn’t been before, even the tarot reader looked a little different, Buck was sure her eyes hadn’t been such a vibrant green last time, or her smile as sharp as this time around. “You’re a lost one, aren’t you?” She said, her hand reaching out to touch his arm, Buck backed away from her cold touch “Yeah, yeah, you’re lost, but don’t worry, everything you’re looking for is right in front of you, you’ll need to look inwards before you can find it” He frowned, “Wouldn’t I have to look outwards? If its in front of me?” She shook her head “You’re blinding yourself; you have to remove the blind. It has to come from within” * Feeling more lost than ever, and after a weird run into an odd Tarot Reader, Buck wakes up in a universe where he has been dead for a year, and in order to go home, he needs to find what he's been missing to be happy.

Buck freezes, heart jumping right up to his throat. He turns a little too quickly, nearly knocking him off balance before a hand shoots out, wrapping around his bicep to steady him. Buck blinks up at Eddie and all the fight bleeds out of him as he throws himself into Eddie’s arms.

“Oh god,” he wheezes as he chokes back a sob, “Eddie, I—I’m so sorry!”

He feels Eddie’s hands — strong, steady, and warm — wrap around him before he is unceremoniously shoved backwards. Buck feels all the air punch out of his lungs when his back hits the firetruck.

“Who the hell are you?”

Buck’s mouth falls open as he looks at Eddie. As he looks at the person that knows him better than anyone else in the world. The person that he loves with every fiber of his being. He looks at Eddie and realizes that Eddie has no idea who he is.

[or buck is in an accident and wakes up in a universe where the 118 don't know who he is]
