In honour of the playtest of Hades 2 an Ate I did in the style of the game!

"(She) that blindeth all—a power fraught with bane; delicate are her feet, for it is not upon the ground that she fareth, but she walketh over the heads of men, bringing men to harm, and this one or that she ensnareth."

In the Argonautica, Hera says that "even the gods are sometimes visited by Ate".

Ate is the greek goddess of mischief, delusion, ruin, and blind folly, rash action and reckless impulse who led men down the path of ruin. She was considered the personification of ruin. According to Hesiod (Theog. 230), a daughter of Eris, and according to Homer (Il. xix. 91) of Zeus.

I personally made her like Eris, and like her grandmother Nyx, with soooome details of Zeus.

Ate appears in a story in the Iliad, where it is told how she came to be thrown out of Olympus, and never permitted to return. Zeus held Ate to blame for blinding him to Hera's trickery which resulted in the loss of the birthright Zeus intended for his son Heracles: to be lord over the Argives. As punishment, an enraged Zeus:

"seized Ate by her bright-tressed head, wroth in his soul, and sware a mighty oath that never again unto Olympus and the starry heaven should Ate come, she that blindeth all. So said he, and whirling her in his hand flung her from the starry heaven, and quickly she came to the tilled fields of men. At thought of her would he ever groan, whenso he beheld his dear son in unseemly travail beneath Eurystheus' tasks."

Homer, Iliad 9. 498 ff :

"The very immortals can be moved; their virtue and honour and strength are greater than ours are, and yet with sacrifices and offerings for endearment, with libations and with savour men turn back even the immortals in supplication, when any man does wrong and transgresses. For there are also the Litai (Litae, Prayers), the daughters of great Zeus, and they are lame of their feet, and wrinkled, and cast their eyes sidelong, who toil on their way left far behind by the spirit of Ruin (Ate): but she, Ate (Ruin), is strong and sound on her feet, and therefore far outruns all Litai (Prayers), and wins into every country to force men astray; and the Litai (Prayers) follow as healers after her. If a man venerates these daughters of Zeus as they draw near, such a man they bring great advantage, and hear his entreaty; but if a man shall deny them, and stubbornly with a harsh word refuse, they go to Zeus, son of Kronos, in supplication that Ate (Ruin) may over take this man, that he be hurt, and punished."

I don’t think we pay attention enough to the insane family line Percy has on Poseidon’s side.

Like Percy is basically a young version of his dad but then you have:

Other Demigods:

Sciron(pirate with gross ass feet), Theseus(kinda a dick but pretty normal in demigod terms).

Born Goddesses and Gods:

Triton, Kymopoleia- pretty normal looking. What you’d expect from a sea god.

Cyclopes(ok getting farther there):

Tyson(besides the eye would probably pass as a very large human), Polyphemus(giant cannibal Cyclopes).

Umm?? Horses I guess:

Arion(Son of Demeter and Poseidon while they were both horses. Twin of a goddess(not a horse)), and Pegasus(a Pegasus).

Monsters:

Chrysaor(son of Medusa and Poseidon, unknown what his face looks like but seems human enough), Procrustes(ugly af and sadistic), Antaeus(son of Gaea and Poseidon??? Weird af and also is a red Giant who’s a psychopath), Charybdis(a daughter of Gaea and Poseidon, is currently a giant terrifying garbage disposal in the ocean).

Fuck it why not:

Chrysomallos(aka the Golden Fleece, aka Poseidons son who was sacrificed and whose skin Percy had to steal from his other half-brother and currently resides on Half-Blood Hill. Percy’s dead brothers skin is just there cause fuck it.)

These are just the siblings of Percy who we meet(or steal). How the fuck did Poseidon manage to create the weirdest kids imaginable.

I now hope everyone can place the fact that a garbage disposal with terrifying teeth, a fast horse, and a Golden Fleece are Percy’s siblings. You’re welcome.

If I had a nickel for every time a thing I like has a son of hades is disliked by his father at the beginning of the story and has a younger sister who is akin to witchcraft and was mentored by Hecate in the sequel of the main title, I'd have two nickels - which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

The part where Percy talks about how Annabeth makes him kinda have to tread lightly really made me frown when I read it.

In HoO and CotG I feel like their relationship was written better and more healthy than what that sentence implies, maybe because Rick realized that’s kinda abusive, but still I feel like Percabeth in the PJO series, especially when it came to Rachel was poorly written.

Honestly Rick has this thing when he writes love triangles where the “main” love interest is so insanely mean and vindictive even when they aren’t usually like that. (Annabeth, Piper, FRANK).

I only read the first 3 PJO books when I was a lot younger and barely remembered anything, so I decided to read the entire PJO, HoO, and ToA series while the show was going on, and I feel like a lot of readers really mis-remember parts in the series.

Like I was expecting Rachel and Annabeth to be on equal footing when it came to jealously, and for it to be more subtle, but no! Annabeth was so cruel I was gobsmacked anyone thought Rachel was the bad guy in that love triangle scenario. Honestly I think without the whole Oracle thing they would’ve gotten together because Rachel was just so much nicer and straightforward to Percy in books 3-5.

Again, don’t get me wrong, I think Percabeth is really cute in the HoO books and onwards, but Rachel was definitely the better option in the og series.

Rick just needs to never write love triangles again quite frankly because he always makes one of them so out-of-character and it’s usually unnecessary.

Sorry for this rant, I thought it would be shorter but this has been grating on me because people still see Rachel as the bad guy and excuse Annabeth’s awful behaviour in the og series.

5 Reasons Percy Should Have Dated Rachel Elizabeth Dare

1. They comfort each other

Percy didn’t want to be a half-blood in the first place, and then he met with Rachel who can take him to a ‘normal’ life seemed like what he needed. Rachel, who has clear sight, always wondering why she could see things that others don’t, finally met Percy who can explain to her what was happening, and prove that she’s not crazy, but gifted. They are not “using each other” but bring comfort and relief to each other. Percy also said “she was so much easier to be around than some other girls I knew”, that showed how comfortable Percy was with Rachel than other girls.

2. Open Communication

In TLO Percy said “Rachel didn’t hide much. She let you know how she felt” clearly he liked that trait of her : straightforward. And we know Percy was not too sensitive to girls’ hints, and he was so confused at some point trying to deal with a girl before. So what could be more compatible for him than a straightforward girl? Being with Rachel, he stated “I didn’t have to work hard or rack my brain trying to figure out what she was thinking.” Like, good for him.

3. Rachel can make the first move

Percy might not be the sharpest when it comes to romance and he needs a little push. But boys don’t always have to be the first who make a move and there is no prohibition that a girl cannot do it. Rachel did that a few times. She wrote her phone number on Percy’s hand, even though that time wasn’t for flirting purposes, but still, Percy ended up memorizing it. She asked Percy if he felt like hanging out with a mortal, he can call her. The most famous of them all is when they were on the beach in the beginning of TLO, she hinted Percy to kiss her. If it weren’t for the pegasus interruption, Percy would’ve kissed her first. Just sayin’.

4. They can be best friends

Outside of romantic relationships, we all can agree they can be besties, with sarcastic humor, they were like on the same ‘tone’! They were the kind of people who say “babe” but like platonically while saying “dude” romantically. They could just chill and have fun, or maybe doing shenanigans.

5. They ‘bravely’ care for each other

Rachel got sliced by Percy in their first encounter, but minutes later she helped him from the skeleton army. She helped him again with the empousas, the labyrinth, hit the Titan’s Lord with a blue plastic hairbrush, and made a sh!tty deal so she can go to the warzone and help Percy. “In her own way, Rachel was brave.” When Percy felt like Rachel was going to be the Oracle, he said “it filled me with dread” and angrily tried to stop it from happening ‘cause he was afraid she could end up tragically.. Or was it? Wasn’t he also didn’t want her to be off-limits???😏

I stand by this ship and I think Percy should’ve dated Rachel :)
