Loco Cafe; Denton, TX
Another Denton local place, Loco Cafe serves both breakfast and lunch, and is known for having some pretty bomb coffee.
Tumblr media
There’s only one word for the feel of Loco Cafe: cool. It’s just a cool place. From the industrial look, to the order at the counter process, to the limeades served in martini shakers. It’s cool.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, that’s kind of where the experiences starts to drag. In our time at Loco Cafe, the food has always left a bit to be desired. It just falls short of being satisfying. Pictured above is what we ordered on our last trip: French toast with cinnamon apples and eggs lunatic (a play on eggs Benedict). The French toast was really dense, because they use biscuit dough instead of bread. The substitution takes away all of the airy qualities that french toast should have. And that cinnamon apples didn’t add any freshness to help with the heaviness of the dish. The eggs lunatic did not taste bad; the issue was the texture. Replacing the traditional English muffin that would go with eggs Benedict with corn muffins sounds genius. But, between the cheese sauce, poached egg, and salsa, the corn muffin just absorbed all the liquid and became soggy as well. Just a small alteration would have saved it, like frying the egg instead of poaching it. Just anything that would add something to chew. The hash browns that went with the dish might have been the redemer, but they were diced too small to take away from the wetness. Not to mention, they were all diced different sizes, which left me with some burnt pieces and some raw.
Overall, it’s a 3/5. Good concepts that fall just short of solid executions.

Crickle’s and Co.; Denton, TX
Fresh and homemade is a pretty winning combo, and Crickle’s and Co. brings it for sure.
The menu is filled with super fresh and light. Marissa got a chicken Caesar salad, while I got a turkey wrap. As is mandatory in all real friendships (especially friendships that involve a food blog), we offered each other bites. And the servings were definitely big enough to do, which is always a plus. Especially if you’re a fan of leftovers like we are.
Tumblr media
Crickle’s has a really comfortable, ladylike atmosphere. With just a few tables for dining, as well as a sofa and TV, it’s really easy to come in on a day out with your friends and just relax. Plus, they had soap operas playing when we went in. So you can cram in your shame TV shows without anybody judging you. Like, look, dude. It was just playing at my favorite brunch place. Never mind that I already knew Sonny’s backstory, okay? Just order your sandwich and mind your business.
Tumblr media
Pricewise, this place isn’t a big splurge. Especially for the servings you get and the quality you’re receiving. You’ll be spending as much as you would for a Jack in the Box combo, but there will be fresh veggies and less questionable protein sources.
And, don’t forget that this place is also a bakery. A really, really good bakery. Unfortunately, somebody (Marissa) forgot to take a picture of her cheese cake before she ate it all. But let that be a note for how delicious their baked stuff is. Plus, they have free cucumber water. Wins all around.

Mimosa Pops
Here is a weather report: it’s hot. It’s really hot. It’s July in Texas. It’s super hot.
Now, for us, cold mimosas are a summer staple. They’re fresh, tasty, and alcoholic; real triple threats for quality summer drinks. Plus, it’s socially acceptable to drink them in the morning. But, there’s definately a way to amp up their summertime appeal: freeze those bad boys!
This isn’t something you can do with all of your summer drinks. Alcohol doesn’t freeze, so your tequila sunrise might have to stay liquid.  But, water does. Wine and champagne have enough water in them to make them freeze into a perfect popsicle.
First, gather your supplies. I got cheap champagne and orange juice. The mold is from the Dollar Store and was, get this, a dollar. And, if you wanted to get real fancy with it, grab some blueberries or strawberries.
Tumblr media
Now, pour that champagne in there. Fill the molds about halfway or more. Any less and you’ll have a tough time tasting your bubbly.
Tumblr media
Top off your molds with the orange juice. Or cranberry juice. Or whatever juice. Dump it in and put the tops on.Now off the the freezer with it. Champagne takes quite a while to freeze. So be patient. Keep the door closed and let them sit for at least 4 hours. I went longer than that because I’m a nervous person.
Tumblr media
BOOM. MIMOSA POPSICLE.

Just as yummy as the liquid version, but much more refreshing. Plus, down 4 or these guys at the pool, nobody is the wiser.
Enjoy.

Seven Mile Cafe; Denton, TX
Let’s kick things off with our very favorite local brunch place.
Seven Mile Cafe, or simply 7 Mile to the locals, is the business, y’all. Personally, we consider this place a bit of a splurge. But it’s entirely possible to eat here and not break the bank. They serve breakfast all day, which is the trademark of any solid brunch location. The coffee is great, but, more importantly, they serve mimosas (*cue heavenly chorus*).
Tumblr media
7 Mile has a really great selection of food with lots of non-breakfast options for anybody looking for something more substantial. It’s a good place to go if you want something healthy that’ll fill you up. They use really fresh ingredients, you can absolutely taste the difference in quality as a result. And did I mention they have mimosas? They do, guys. They have mimosas.
Tumblr media
Overall, this place has a really laid back and comfortable atmosphere. Located in a converted house, it’s kind of tight quarters, but is really charming. Definitely a good place to take your parents when they visit you from out of town (especially all you college kids who want your mom to think you’ve got it together). The only downside to 7 Mile is that you have to get there early. There’s almost always a bit of wait, especially on the weekends. Plus they close at like 3. So get your tuckus over there if you want a seat.

*edited to add* Another downside: one time we went and this really white waitress had a bindi on her forehead and it was not our favorite thing in the world. Just saying.

hi.
We are Marissa and Callie, and this is our food blog.
From greasy bar apps to fancy dishes we might not be pronouncing correctly, we really love food (and desserts and cocktails and wine and beer). We live in Denton, so the majority of the places we talk about will be in our beloved 940. However, we eat everywhere we go and are always in search of a new cuisine to try out.
We’re here to review local places, show off some of the amazing meals we eat, and maybe throw a tip/recipe/idea or two your way.
