Hello! Sorry this is super late, I've been swamped! Here are some issues with Dick and Clark that I really like [I wanted to make this list short and sweet but look what happened. Oops?]
Superman #700: Geometry — Clark basically babysits Dick when he goes out on patrol without Bruce’s permission, then takes him back home and does his homework for him so he doesn’t get in trouble. Very Uncle behavior.
Nightwing 1996 #30: Just Passing Through — Clark passing through Bludhaven, having a mini chat with Dick about how exhausting being a hero can be, then helping him out with some stuff because neither of them can catch a break.
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest (2022) — didn’t specify the issues because I Can’t Remember lol but also because I recommend people read the whole thing anyway, there’s some great moments throughout [definitely not me spreading my World’s Finest agenda]
Legends of DC Universe #6: Fear of God — I love first meetings between Dick and Clark and this one’s exceptionally cute
Superman/Batman Annual #2: The Man Who Stole Superman’s Powers — some of the writing be weird ass but it’s worth it for the cute Dick and Clark panels + Dick being so in awe when he meets him that he accidentally calls him Clarkman
If I may tempt you to read some good old World’s Finest Comics? [again definitely not spreading agenda]
World’s Finest Comics #184: an interesting “what if?” story + Dick goes blond!!🤠
World’s Finest Comics #200: all you need to know about this one is it takes place during Dick’s Hudson Uni days 😭👍🏼
World’s Finest Comics #271: Dick seeking Clark’s help to find Bruce
Happy reading🫶🏼

Hi everyone!
Just a heads up, but there’s a maybe 65% chance that I’ll be deleting this blog soon. I’m okay + not leaving the fandom just leaving Tumblr! I’ll still be on AO3 as I want to focus more on my writing in the future.
Thank you all for the fun times🫶🏼

Hi! I really love how much you care about Superman and the Dynamic Duo ♡ Its inspired me to start reading some myself. I want to start reading World's Finest, the Dan Mora one, but idk where to start? Do you have any suggestions or advice?
Hello! Aw thanks!
My ultimate goal is to get people into World’s Finest hehhehheh
Right now Batman/Superman: World’s Finest is at issue 25 I think, right? Tbh it’s all really good, I’d recommend the whole thing. But if you want to start with something short, try World’s Finest (1990), it’s a three-part miniseries that focuses on Bruce and Clark.
And then if you wanna get into World’s Finest Comics (1941) I’d suggest starting at issue 71 because that’s when the first actual team-up between Batman and Superman happens. Or you could read Superman/Batman Annual #1, it’s kind of the same story of Bruce and Clark meeting on the cruise ship but modernized.

Do you think since Nightwing was willing to kill the Joker for Jason, that he has more loyalty to Jason/other Robins than he does to Batman? He knows Bruce better than anyone, so he should have accepted why he didn't kill the Joker himself
Short answer: nope. I personally don’t think there’s anyone Dick is more loyal to than Bruce. (He can be so intense and explicit about it, too.)
Long answer:
Ohhhh honey I don’t even know where to start with Dick’s loyalty to Bruce. It knows no bounds. It really knows no bounds. You can’t get Bruce out of Dick’s veins, he’s in that deep.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even when Bruce “did bad things/was an asshole” Dick would defend him and make excuses for him in front of others. And it doesn’t surprise me at all because that’s his Dad and Dick is an insanely devoted kid; no matter what happens he’ll always be loyal to Bruce. You could call it endearing, a character flaw, a blind spot– really depends on how you look at it.
Okay so let’s talk about the Joker Last Laugh fiasco! -war flashbacks-
(I went back and hate-reread the whole thing just for you, anon🫶🏼)
(I have qualms with some of the writing in this story but for the sake of this ask I won’t nitpick)
“Dick killing the Joker” did not occur in a vacuum so let’s analyze what happened before, during, and after. At the start we see Dick trying to get Babs to relax and take a break from her work (in addition to obsessively watching the Joker’s every move via CCTV). While they’re out Babs talks about how she wishes they could just be rid of the Joker permanently. This train of thought comes up again and again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She says she wants him dead. His answer is “we don’t do revenge”. That’s his moral code courtesy of Bruce. It makes several appearances in this story.
Dick keeps trying to reason with her and talk her down, even though he was also traumatized by what happened to her. When recalling what the Joker did to Babs and the immediate aftermath of it, Dick (in his head) describes those as the darkest days of his life since his parents’ death.
This shows us that Dick is deeply affected by the pain his loved ones go through and that he reflects on it. And then, amidst all the chaos, news reaches him of Tim’s presumed death at the hands of the Joker, and it’s like the final straw on top of the mountain he’d already been carrying on his back. Jason’s death. The attack on Babs that continues to cause her immense pain. And now Tim? It’s too much, the pain and rage tips him into a breakdown. Even Babs later tells Tim that Dick was acting different and “changed” after he found out that Tim was presumed dead. He even subtly blames himself by saying “we weren’t there for him.”
Dick’s not in his right mind at all when he goes to the cathedral to face the Joker, and it’s obvious. He doesn’t say a single word, immediately starts throwing punches, and when he finally speaks he explodes
Tumblr media
He’s so out of it that when he sees Tim he thinks it’s a trick. He’s having a full-on breakdown. I wouldn’t call that “willingly” doing anything. Because when he does snap out of it he goes right back to the moral code he’s been preaching all along and is utterly shattered by his own actions. The first thing out of his mouth is “what have I done?”
Tumblr media
Bruce is there to resuscitate the Joker to save his son from the mental toll that killing would have on him, but it still isn’t enough. He’s completely dismayed and just walks out in a daze all alone.
After walking out, he beats himself up, isolates himself from everyone, ignores Babs’s calls, and even considers quitting crimefighting all together because he almost killed the Joker. Which he thinks is a massive failure. I repeat, Dick thinks almost killing the Joker was the biggest failure ever. He breaks the moral code once and can’t bear to look anyone in the eye anymore. I don’t know if we want to call that “willing”.
TLDR; the aftermath of his breakdown in Joker Last Laugh is actually a classic example of his undying loyalty to Bruce. Everyone except Bruce basically tells him hey it’s fine maybe you did a bad thing but you’re human and we wanted Joker dead anyway, and you know what Dick does? Turns inward and dismisses all attempts at comfort, because the one person who matters most and whose opinion reigns supreme didn’t tell him that it’s okay: Bruce.

Being Dick Grayson is like what do you need? I'll do anything for you. Am I doing enough? Will you let me in? I have to do this alone. Are you okay? I'll help you be okay. We can do this together. I trust you. What do you need? I'll do anything for you.
Being Bruce Wayne is like I'm so proud of you. I can't bear to lose you. I need you to stay. It hurts to look at you. You're better off without me. I'm weighing you down. I did this all wrong but you turned out so right. You help me live. I never deserved you. I'm so proud of you. I can't bear to lose you.

No this actually makes me cackle because Bruce spends almost the entire comic making helicopter noises and grabby hands at Dick and then Clark just says hey is he okay and Bruce goes yes now stop doting you big dork. YOU'RE ONE TO TALK MISTER WAYNE.

Say Dick becomes a father himself (Whoever he ends ends up with or if he adopts a kid as a single parent doesn’t matter), how do you Bruce would react to that development?
Hoooo boy this one is a THONKER for sure.
I think Bruce's reaction would be just sliiightly different if Dick adopted a kid on his own vs if he had a biological child with someone.
If Dick adopts, I think Bruce's first reaction would be my son is turning into me and he'd be concerned, but that would just be the shock talking. Soon it would turn into he's going to raise that kid way better than I raised him followed by a sense of pride, because he knows how good Dick is with people and he'd immediately see the positive effects on the kid. (He would also definitely notice Dick doing/saying some things that Bruce used to do/say when Dick was a kid, only somehow make them better. I honestly don't know how Bruce doesn't just explode with pride at this point. The batsuit must be holding him together very well.)
If Dick has a biological child it would be a bit different because Bruce would probably know before the baby is even born, right? Dick would tell him. So, I'm thinking he's gonna have a looot of time to brood before the baby comes. He'd definitely be relieved that Dick could have some sense of normalcy in this crazy life they have. But he'd also worry, of course, that's what he does best. And I do wonder if he'd feel conflicted about Dick still being a vigilante when he's about to become a father. It'll take time and a lot of reassurance from Dick for him to believe that things will be okay. And when the baby is born? Lmaooooo. Can you imagine Bruce the first time Dick walks into Wayne Manor with his partner and a baby in his arms? And then on top of that Dick asks if he'd like to hold the baby for a bit? Trust me holding a idk 5-8 year old kid is NOT the same as holding a baby. I don't know if Bruce would be prepared for what that would do to him. It changes people. When Bruce holds that baby it's gonna unlock New and Strange feelings he does not understand.
Either way he wouldn't compute the fact that this technically makes him grandpa until Dick teases him about it or tells his kid look! it's grandpa! say hi to grandpa Bruce! and then Bruce would just... idk... spiral for a bit. He's good at spiraling. Aaaand now I'm thinking about grandpa Bruce oh no!

My God. What if you were Bruce Wayne and you took in Richard Grayson expecting to only find in his eyes a mirror of your own endless grief and anger but instead, after a short time, he completely surprised you by not just having the happiest eyes you've ever seen, but also being positive, empathetic, fearless, and so eager to do good and help people? What if he held a tiny but bright torch against the darkness you've been living in? What then? Would you or would you not love him with your entire soul?

Robin Dick Grayson Characterization
I'm not sure how or where this started but there's been a rampant misunderstanding of Dick Grayson as Robin.
For some reason there have been posts upon posts that dick was some kind of angry robin and I don't know where this is coming from because in every single comic Dick is said to be the happy one. It seems to be a Covid craze because such defamation was not even in existance before 2020. Every one of the comics - Justice League, Batman, Detective Comics, Nightwing Comics, Jason's comics, Tim's comics, all of them! Talk about Dick being the happiest of the robins.
Some people say that he wanted to avenge his parents death by killing Tony Zucco. However Dick could never do that. John and Mary raised their son better than that.

Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight Issue #100
Where do you see a raging blood-soaked boy fanon makes him out to be?
The biggest supporter of happy Dick comes from Alfred so if you're going around claiming Dick was angry, you're literally spitting on his grave because Alfred ADORED Dick. He thought of Dick as the sole reason for Bruce's happiness which made him love Dick even more.
Alfred is Dick's biggest advocator. When Bruce is hesitant in his initial days of Robin - Alfred says

Detective Comics (2016) Issue #1000
"He's gotten a taste for it, Master Bruce. He has the natural skill and talent. Do you really think you could stop him at this point?"
"He could make you better. He could BE better."
"A hero forged in the LIGHT."
And Dick feels this too.

Detective Comics (2016) Issue #1000
"Then WE help them find the better path. Together."
Tumblr media
Detective Comics (2016) Issue #1000
"Let's show them how to do it right."
Calling Dick an angry robin - that's an insult to Dick, Bruce, and Alfred. It's an insult to who they are as characters and it's an insult to the very creation of robin.
Dick wasn't made for vengeance. He was made for the light.
Dick is the embodiment of hope and a brighter future. He's what people look forward to on their darkest days, their shining light. He's the hero of all heroes that came after him. There is no one like him.
There are tons of comics on Dick's journey as Robin but here's a clear one as to his thoughts before he became Robin.

Dick wasn't angry. He's was sad, lonely, and scared.

Batman (1940) Issue #687
Dick was an excitable, brilliant, and over-excelling child. He was a ball of sunshine and happiness who loved laughing, playing games, and being crazy. He was a hypercompetent, crazy child who lived for the love of living and adventure.
It's the loss of the original dynamic duo that Alfred grieves over.

Batman/Superman (2019) Issue #17
IT'S A CRIME TO CALL HIM ANGRY.
Tumblr media
Love this sweet, adorable child.
Another issue with the “Dick Grayson was an angry Robin” take. It’s not just a different perspective, it’s just blatantly wrong.
How wrong?
In order to fight the Batman who laughs, Bruce creates a machine that will emulate the joy of the happiest person he has ever known-who?
Robin Dick Grayson.
Tumblr media
"Happiness is seeing the world though the eyes of children."
Tumblr media
The Batman Who Laughs Issue #4
"Dick was the first robin. He had the happiest eyes. Circus eyes. Weightless - leaping, never falling."
Bruce drives himself insane from the joy he feels by looking at the world through Robin Dick's eyes.
Every comic. In every. single. comic. All of them talk about how Dick was a happy child and a happy robin. Dick's talk about it, Jason's talk about it, Tim's talk about it, the Justice League's talk about it, the Batman's especially - all the batman comics - talk about.
I would've actually added about 50 more panels but I ran out of image space because posts only have a 30 image limit.
I'm not kidding when I say it's IMPOSSIBLE. ABSOLUTELY, INCONCEIVABLY IMPOSSIBLE to say that Dick was angry Robin. Dick, Jason, Bruce, Tim, Damian, Alfred, Barbara, the JL, the titans, the Gotham villains - they all talk about Dick was a symbol of hope, joy, and light to Bruce and Gotham.
Not only that but if you read the comics, you would know that Dick was a happy robin because all the following robins had a cascade effect on their personality based solely on the fact that Dick was a happy robin. Jason's personality was the result of Dick being charcterized as happy, and Tim's personality was based off Dick's being happy.
But you know what the biggest piece of evidence against this blasphemy that Dick was angry robin is?
Tumblr media
Secret Origins (2014) Issue #8
"...Becoming a much needed FOIL to the batman, whose own grim obsession with revenge could easily have caused him to cross the line..."
Explain something to me. It canonically states the Dick was a foil to Bruce Wayne who used to be revenge obsessed and grim. A foil in literature means a character who contrasts with another character to highlight the differences between them.
So if Bruce was dark, gloomy, angry, and revenge filled and Dick was the foil, then how on earth is it possible Dick to also be dark, gloomy, angry, and revenge filled?
On top of this impossibility of Dick being angry and full of hatred, can we take a step back for a minute and think about Dick's position in all this? Dick is the very first child hero, the one countless heroes after him look up to because he, Robin, was the embodiment of light and goodness. He single-handedly dragged Bruce out of his pit of self-destruction merely by existing because of his charming and playful demeanor. How, then, is it possible for every single character in the entirety of DCU along with every single writer who has ever written a comic - to be wrong?
Let's be clear. Bruce's personality, is written to be the opposite of Dick's personality. And Dick's personality is the opposite of Bruce's. Furthermore, Jason and Tim's personality were written to be a response to Dick's. There's also Alfred waving a massive banner about how Dick is a literal godsend front and center. So. If you still believe, that Dick was not a happy robin, then you have effectively mischaracterized every single person in the entire batfamily aside from Kate.
Congratulations. It's truly an accomplishment to be so wrong.
So no, Dick was not in fact, ever, the angry robin.
Dick was a happy robin and that is the FOUNDATION of understanding the batfamily.

One of the dearest headcanons to me involves 9-year-old Dick getting appendicitis and needing to get his appendix removed urgently, Bruce rushes him to the hospital and is worried sick as they wheel his boy into surgery. Dickie wakes up after surgery loopy and drugged out of his mind, takes one look at Bruce and starts to giggle. Then he points at Bruce's face and begins to (very adorably) say stuff like you're bruceman! and broosh and brucester and Bruce has to try so hard not to smile back because he doesn't want Dick to start laughing hysterically and pop his stitches. So he just places a hand over Dick's and hums placatingly. He may not be smiling but his heart has just grown three sizes.
