usum completely undermined the depth behind lillie and ESPECIALLY gladion's whole reason for being the way that they are. im gonna be focusing on gladion since thats my blorbo, i know him the best outta the two.

gladion often gets mistaken for being edgy and not much else. surface level? sure, hes dramatic and a bit rude. crucially, though, is that he really isnt if you take a look at him with a closer eye.

the whole reason why he has so much apparent bite for no apparent reason is because *hes literally on the run from his abusive parent*. hes a teenager who deeply cares about pokemon. when he found out about silvally, he couldnt let it continue suffering in the dark. he HAD to help it. and for that he had to run from the only home he had. he didnt even get to say goodbye to his little sister. hell i doubt he had any time to grab much in the form of pocket money or necessities.

his very strong love and compassion for the world around him is what led him to take such a colossal risk at an age where he couldnt have POSSIBLY seen the actions of his consequences, and hes clearly hurt by it. he built up walls around him in the form of a tough persona as a means of survival. plus, considering everything he had to go through, he wouldnt exactly be in a great place mentally. honestly, hes probably holding back a lot of his bite since, contrary to his initial appearance, he doesnt like people get hurt by what he says and does for not even doing anything themselves. hes just... scared. hes on the run for doing something completely selfless and justified, and he has pretty much nothing except team skull when he run into him.

AND YET, DESPITE ALL THAT, HE STILL GOES OUT OF HIS WAY TO TREAT HIS POKEMON THE BEST HE POSSIBLY CAN. DESPITE BUILDING THAT EMOTIONAL DIVIDE WITHIN HIMSELF, HE COULD NEVER STOP CARING HEAVILY FOR THINGS.

honestly him being snippy at the mc and haus probably a testament to him yknow being a teenager living alone having to sustain not only himself, but his pokemon as well. hes jaded to life at this point and already has to deal with team skulls antics on the daily. guys got more pressing things to worry about than a couple of kids who are annoyed at team skull grunts causing trouble.

AND ALL THAT. ALL THAT GETS FUCKING TOSSED ASIDE IN USUM. because now lusamine is chill and cool and normal actually hahaha!!

all of the nuance of gladions character that i just described is gone. his entire reason for being on the run? not really all that prevalent anymore, in USUM he pretty much bounces for teenager reasons. he BECOMES the more shallow caricature of edge that people tend to see him as. its not like his SM counterpart isnt entirely void of edge, like obviously the guys still a teenager who dresses Like That. He just now almost entirely lacks the background and depth his character had in the original games. he honestly becomes a parody of himself, and as someone who clearly holds gladion and his characterization close in my heart, its disappointing beyond belief.

hell, this doesnt even begin to touch into how USUM screws up a lot of the writing for lillie's trauma and later arc. you can criticize SM for a LOT of different reasons, but the aether foundation and especially the aether family are very well-written (less-so mohn, but to be fair hes pretty disconnected to the story once he gets eeby-deeby'd through the ultra-beast realm). the reason why i care about these damn kids so much is the fact that their trauma and how it shapes and shows in them is really well done. it makes me CARE for these characters, yknow?

so.. yeah. as cool as i think zeraoura is as a pokemon, both design-wise and concept-wise, it doesnt save USUM from being really disheartening to me as someone whos a very big fan of the original aether foundation plotline (as well as an enjoyer of the anime, as its kind of its own thing that isnt really either storylines? it has silly goofy lusamine, but still keeps elements of trauma and the darker themes of SM, largely through the use of Faba as a character, which i use a lot more in my own AU for the gen).

i wish we had just gotten the extra content within USUM without messing up the storyline so much (hell, i wouldve loved a bigger touch on the trial captains. instead of goofing up the aether foundation storyline which was already really good, they couldve touched on those characters who ACTUALLY needed more characterization within the games, like they did with the anime).

ok legion its 7am and i havent slept and im expected to be up at a decent time so im logging off now, enjoy my insane ramblings. perhaps one day i shall return to feed whatever scraps are left of this little niche of a niche pocket of the fandom ive found myself in

guys the gay trans edgy rivals are starting to spin in my brain again. i'll probably at least update some of the headcanons on em. mk ik this isnt in the exact theme of the blog but here me out (also HEAVY spoilers for sc/vi, please for the love of god play it first if you're interested because gamefreak did it!!! the story goes hard!!!!!)

i never got the impression that Geeta was evil. like never, shes just a bossgirl girlboss whos like a pretty decent boss. average stuff all around from her.

the way she talks the way she acts, EVERYTHING about this woman screams to me 'i am a manufactured human being'.

this isnt to say she doesnt matter somehow or she doesnt have feelings/thoughts/emotions. she clearly does. but so did AI Turo/Sada. she could still very much be an android whos able to think and feel in a similar way!!!!

if this isnt the case/isnt brought up in the DLC i will legit be surprised. theres SO much evidence to her being one in-game that its a bit hard to pick out examples, its just kind of in everything shes in and does.

like ill no means be mad at gamefreak, i myself cant really think of a way Geeta is able to walk around outside the crater if AI Turo/Sada couldnt. maybe its something to do with the way tera orbs work? maybe something to do with those weird panels mentioned in the scarlet/violet book in the academy? dunno, but i dont think it's impossible to make it so it doesnt undermine AI Turo's inability to leave the crater while making sense in the worldbuilding weve got. AIs are new to the series after all, theres a lot more stuff they can do with em.

and whether or not this theory is/isnt true, shes still an android to me. idc what gamefreak says shes not REAL!!!!!11!!1!!

and again, by no means her being an android makes her bad/evil. i just think the potential character drama from the gym members, school staff, main characters, and general public is SO golden. like imagine you find out that your boss is actually an artificial AI, i'd have a panic attack. the potential for varying reactions depending on each character, especially the gym members, is SO so good.

(also im not mentioning team star in this case because i dont think theyd really care all that much? like yeah thats their new boss of 2 weeks and yeah shes La Primera n all but they werent exactly a fan of the system in the first place, and while they probably dont hold any bad feelings towards the system anymore, they havent really been given much urgency to care all that much. as long as Geeta is nice to Penny, they wouldnt really care if Geeta's an AI. theyve all dealt with being outcasted for being different, theyre not gonna do that to someone else just because theyre an AI. Penny will probably find out Geeta's an android first but again i think she'd be chill about it. she'd probably be like "oh rad a robot mom, just like my videogames" and then work on antivirus programs meant for Geeta in order to sorta pay her back for taking Penny under her wing)

These are spam bots flooding tags and the website in general with spam links. They often do not have anything sexually explicit on their blog (although they often have implicit material). Plus, these two reports get very different results. Reporting explicit material gets the bot slapped behind an 18+ wall, so minors can't check if they're a bot or not. Reporting spam gets the bot taken down.

Remember, folks: when dealing with a bot, report spam, not smut!

Okay, I just found out that Bede’s eyes literally get more light in them after Opal takes him in. He also ditches his golden watch and his signature gets simpler on his trainer card, showing that he feels less need to overcompensate. I have nothing to really add here except that I absolutely love all the Galar rivals and am so happy that they all had good endings. (I honestly don’t know if being a professor is a good fit for Hop, but I didn’t play the DLC, and he can change paths if he chooses.)

note: this acts as essentially a tiny piece of the bedeion au im working on so like character development has already happened at this point, i just wanted to write something cute Gladion lay there on his back, gazing past the treetops of the forest and towards the stars. He was exhausted, but despite that, his head wouldn't let him rest. He was used to this. He tried to spend his time gazing up at the stars and listening to the sounds around him, trying to calm his mind, but it always managed to wander anyways. "You still awake?" Bede said, slightly turning his head towards Gladion who was laying next to him. Gladion paused. "Yeah. Why are you?" Gladion shifted to his side so he could see Bede better, even if it was hard to see anyways with the only light source being the moon above the trees. "Eh, you know, brain won't be quiet," Bede scooted a bit closer to Gladion, "How 'bout you?" "Same thing," Gladion paused for a second before continuing, "Mainly worried." "Me too," Bede said, snuggling into Gladion's side and wrapping his arm around Gladion's torso, "We'll be able to walk farther if you've rested well, though." "I know, I know..." Gladion sighed, pressing his face into Bede's fluffy hair. He gently combed his fingers through Bede's soft, curly hair. It made him feel a little calmer. "I'll try my best, at least." "You better," Bede softly huffed, nuzzling his face into Gladion's neck, "I am not carrying you around." Gladion giggled softly, closing his eyes. "Whatever," Gladion lightheartedly muttered, growing drowsy, "Goodnight, love." "Goodnight." Bede whispered, happily closing his eyes and drifting off knowing Gladion would be able to get some rest tonight.
