Social Justice Calvinism

By popular request, and explanation of the term “Social Justice Calvinism”

Social Justice Calvinism, like regular Calvinism, revolves around the idea that human society is so steeped in sin that, not only is it inherently irredeemable, but almost everyone involved is essentially damned (to hell, in the case of real Calvinism, to … I dunno being bad, I guess, in the case of Social Justice Calvinism).

Similarly to real Calvinism, Social Justice Calvinism allows for a small, elect group of people who are miraculously able to rise above the morass of evil that is human society (in real Calvinism this is due to G-d’s will, in Social Justice Calvinism, this comes as a result of their overwhelming moral superiority).

As in real Calvinism, nobody knows who the elect of Social Justice Calvinism are, but they are identified by certain signs (in the case of real Calvinism these signs include prosperity, in Social Justice Calvinism, these signs are things like using trigger warnings or sharing photo sets of queer people of color).

Like real Calvinists, Social Justice Calvinists tend to shun and loudly denounce much of the society that they see as inherently corrupt so as to demonstrate (as much to themselves as to everyone else) that they are likely to be members of the elect. However, because membership in the elect is impossible to determine, a Social Justice Calvinists are often wracked by guilt and anxiety as to whether or not they are actually members of the elect.

Finally, and most importantly, much of Social Justice Calvinism’s appeal comes from its goal of challenging a corrupt and oppressive power structure, and its hints of moral clarity. Social Justice Calvinism so especially frustrating because the things that are being fought for are so important (see I’m one of the elect). As with salvation and prosperity in real Calvinism, many of the signs of goals and signs of the Social Justice Calvinist elect are actually quite desirable, but unfortunately they come at the price of believing that nearly everyone, up to and including you, is damned.

happy pride month to religious queer people, who feel like they’re contradictions, or told that they’re contradictions, but stay true to these important parts of themselves anyway. happy pride to the queer religious people who have to explain their identities, and who have to defend their faith or their queerness in either circle.

I don't usually talk about celebrities; artists, when I do, and I'm keenly aware that one needn't be a good person to be a hell of a heartwrenching artist. But Peter S. Beagle has written a few of my favorite things in the world, he's an excellent singer and filker, and this Twitter thread was dreadfully important to me. I don't want it going away as Twitter becomes Shitter, because it's so often bad news, isn't it? It's important to me to share trans joy.

I apologize if you’ve been asked this question before I’m sure you have, but how do you feel about AI in writing? One of my teachers was “writing” stories using ChatGPT then was bragging about how good they were (they were not good) and said he was going to sell them. To put aside any legal concerns in that, I’m just trying to talk him down from that because, personally, I would not enjoy dream job being taken by AI.

Many magazines have closed their submission portals because people thought they could send in AI-written stories.

For years I would tell people who wanted to be writers that the only way to be a writer was to write your own stories because elves would not come in the night and do it for you.

With AI, drunk plagiaristic elves who cannot actually write and would not know an idea or a sentence if it bit their little elvish arses will actually turn up and write something unpublishable for you. This is not a good thing.

Something that always comes to mind when I watch Young Justice, is how the fuck Conner is going to explain to other people that he has to dads.

Like, not in a gay homosexual way, but the fact his first dad is Clark Kent, which isn't really a big deal, because he's a news reporter. But how Lex "fucking billionaire, with daddy issues and has a competitive streak against Bruce Wayne" Luthor is his other dad.

Of course, he can't just say he's a test tube baby or else he blows his cover as Superboy. So, how does that conversation even go??? Does he just avoid the question???

Clex comics fic that I wish I could read . Lex deduct that Superman and Clark Kent are connected. But he absolutely convinced that its romantic connection, as is Superman is seducing Clark. And it can not be allowed, because obviously Clark was his friend first(so what that they didn't talk since he skipped town in 15 , its a principle of things). Just Lex seducing increasingly flushed and suspicious Clark. Because Superman always had all of Lex attention, but Clark waybe missed his friend and first crush.

This is some excellent identity porn shenanigans, my God. I'm also imagining Clark finding out about Lex misunderstanding and thinking Lex is only paying attention to him because of the Superman connection, and then being jealous of himself.

Is this not a fic that already exists?? It sounds like it should. Putting this out there in the world for you Anon, perhaps someone knows of one... or someone gets inspired to write one!
