August 27th, 2013 // Ridley Creek State Park, Pennsylvania
This is a Red-Spotted Purple Admiral Butterfly that I found in Ridley Creek State Park. This butterfly species closely resembles the Pipeline Swallowtail species in order to receive the benefits of mimicry. The Pipeline Swallowtail is distasteful to predators, so by resembling this species, the Red-Spotted Purple Admiral is able to deter predators as well. Commonly spotted from Spring through Autumn.

May 12th, 2016 // Ringing Rocks County Park - Bucks County, Pennsylvania
While my boyfriend and I were exploring and hiking through Ringing Rocks County Park, we stopped to say hello to this frog. He was very friendly and proved to be a good model for me! Hope to figure out the species of frog, so if anyone knows, feel free to comment!

July 19th, 2013 // Ridley Creek State Park, Pennsylvania
I found this box turtle as I was out with my dad for a lovely day. We noticed something was off about it and were able to find a reptile veterinarian willing to take a look at it. She gave us a call the next day to tell us that the turtle had something that is similar to a common cold. Unfortunately, for turtles, as well as other reptiles, they are unable to sneeze to remove the mucus from their sinuses. This mucus builds up and suffocates them. Luckily, the veterinarian gave the turtle fluids and antibiotics, keeping him well fed and taken care of. A few days later, my dad and I picked the turtle up and returned it to its home!

June 25th, 2015 // Philadelphia Zoo
Meet two of the four Philadelphia Zoo’s sleepy lion cubs, Kataba and Mali. On this day, they were celebrating their first birthday. Makini (male) and Tajiri (female) are the parents of these beautiful lionesses.

May 17th, 2017 // Cadillac Mountain, Acadia National Park
During my trip to Maine with my boyfriend and friends, we visited Acadia National Park and spent the majority of our time there on Cadillac Mountains. The views and the memories during this unfortunately short trip will not be forgotten. Later that night, we returned to the park and drove back up to the top of Cadillac Mountain because the percentage chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis was high. Sadly, the cloud coverage and wind speed prevented us from seeing it.

About Me
My name is Sarah Kilburn. I’ve been interested in photography for many years now. I study biology at a local college with a concentration in zoology. I enjoy traveling and, of course, bringing my camera with me for the ride. I hope to travel more frequently and be able to achieve my dream of photographing and researching many different animals! This blog/journal is for my photographs and my experiences along the way.
