I guess it’s time to have a snack.
god i hate how normalized diet culture and shit like bmi and calories are. bmi is based on eugenics. calories are a measurement of how much energy something gives u and not at all of how much weight or fat ull gain. diets have been proven to be harmful and ultimately unhelpful in actually losing weight. fatness has been largely proven to not be inherently unhealthy and doesnt inherently cause health issues.
if anyone has more good links to add on then please do and if anyone knows more on this stuff than me then dont hesitate to correct me!

Honestly, I kinda blame western medicine for this. Western medicine has, from my point of view, largely written off herbal medicines as woo-pseudo-science that doesn’t work and shouldn’t be taken seriously. Therefore, people don’t consider if medicine, and just think of it like a healthy supplement or something.
Another day another problem posted to the pagan group that really should have been directed towards a medical professional.

For real though, medicinal herbs are MEDICINE and should be treated with the same reverence as Tylenol, ibuprofen, and perception drugs.
Dosage matters.
There can/will be side effects.
You can poison yourself if you take too much.
It can interfere with other drugs you’re taking.
Take this Shit seriously people. It’s not something to dabble in without forethought.

One of the things that struck me about Robin Wall Kimmerer's perspective when I was reading Braiding Sweetgrass was the way the ethical obligation to life she discussed contrasted with the colonizer's culture.
It is increasingly popular to find it inherently unethical and exploitative to kill animals for food or to farm them for animal products, and instead eat and wear "plant-based" things. This is an impulse toward ethical treatment of non-human living things.
But this way of seeing animals as "lives" and behaving accordingly, depends on seeing plants as non-lives. Asking whether we have ethical obligations toward plants is so absurd, it's dismissed as trolling.
I've known many people who farmed or hunted animals who had a great reverence for their lives. Some people would think that this is not genuine and that it is never morally acceptable to take a life for your own use.
Kimmerer discusses Indigenous use of animals. But when a tree needs to be cut down or a plant uprooted, there is the same vivid awareness that a life is being taken, that the plant's life is A Life.
Now I'm troubled by the dismissal of plants as providing total freedom from guilt and moral responsibility among many people and organizations who see animal life as deeply sacred. Plant based products are cruelty-free alternatives to animal products and plant-based diets mean nothing had to die for your meal.
I understand not wanting to support cruel industries or being uncomfortable with eating animals, but the more I learn about plants, the less I believe that all animals have something all plants lack, that means we have moral obligations toward animals and not toward plants.
Plants are incredibly unlike us, but they respond to their environments, they communicate with other plants, and they engage in behaviors. Objection to potential plant intelligence and sentience (ability to feel) is more cultural than scientific; we are just only beginning to scratch the surface of the inner world of plants. What if we have to respect plants as life? What does respect mean then, if we have to explore the idea that it doesn't necessarily contradict taking life?

New Age Manifesting vs. spellwork manifesting
New Age (law of attraction! karma punishes your enemies for you! activate your chakras to limit 5g interference! your thoughts are reality! starseeds!) has a concept called manifesting.
Within the realm of practical sorcery, we also use the word manifesting.
But these two words mean different things, and I think it can be really confusing. So I'm going to try and take a stab at delineating these concepts. Especially the sorcery portion is based on how I see people using the word.
New Age: Manifesting is a part of New Age dogma. It's a religious belief with various factors at play. In New Age,
Manifesting is the belief that you are able to bring things into your life only using the power of your thoughts.
Your thoughts must be positive.
Your thoughts must be aligned with your "true purpose" or "highest calling."
Negative or unhappy thoughts may limit your ability to manifest.
Your personal level of spiritual development will limit how well you are able to manifest.
Manifesting is often an ongoing process, akin to a spiritual or holy state of mind that should be maintained as often as possible.
In New Age, "I manifested that" = "I wanted that, and I believe I got it because I am spiritually worthy."
In other words, manifestation is a grading of how close you are to fulfilling your "true purpose" in accordance with a living and benevolent universe. The better you do at upholding tenants such as Positivity and Living Your Truth, the more the universe rewards you.
(Please note that having an inborn purpose, being rewarded for aligning to an inborn purpose, and that the universe is capable of such a thing as co-creation are also just beliefs)
Sorcery: Manifesting is a technical term referring to whether or not a working of magic has influenced our world.
A spell or any working of magic is referred to as having been manifested when its influence has become apparent.
A working has manifested whether or not the manifestation was in line with the spellcaster's intent. "I cast a banishing spell on my boss, but when it manifested I just lost my job instead."
A working is manifesting when the spellcaster is confident the working is underway or when early signs of influence become apparent. "I think my money spell is manifesting - I got a call from the bank saying they're looking into those charges."
In sorcery, "I manifested that" = "I cast a spell for that and I believe the spell worked."
Unlike the New Age concept, sorcerous manifestation usually does not refer to the process of creation, but rather the end results of a prior working.
However, I also sometimes see New Age manifestation adopted as a style of sorcerous spellwork.
In other words, people who ostensibly do not practice New Age sometimes work with a style of magic they call "manifesting," which seems to mostly refer to thinking about a desired goal very intensely with the intent that their will becomes reality.
This practice seems divorced from New Age concepts such as positivity and the law of attraction.
In sorcery, other words are sometimes used instead of manifestation. Conjure is relatively common ("I conjured that money"). Plain language is also sometimes used ("my working was successful." "My spell got me what I wanted").

Gonna be doing a little spell tonight. It’s actually going to be my first one.
The persons name, and certain aspects of them, will be written on a piece of paper, over and over, filling it up. It will be crumpled, and then bound up with string.
Black pepper, lemon juice, chili powder, and a few other magical spices will be muddled together.
The bound paper will go into a container, and the mixture will be poured over it. Wax from a green candle will then be dropped over it. Then water will be fill the container, and into the freezer it will go. It will remain there until I no longer need the effects of the spell.
I just hope that it helps who I need it to help.

Okay thanks for the advice but I honestly read that the career being discussed was a career as a “fiancé” not one in “finance” and was honestly intrigued, but mostly confused.
unironically, finance as a profession is not complex.
the people who work in this profession have a vested interest in making you believe it is, so they can sell you things that will transfer your money into their pockets.
If you're looking to retire one day (under the current system we've got), put your money in index funds. They perform the best over time, every time.
Nobody outcompetes the market for very long. Anybody who believes otherwise is trying to sell you equities/bonds/whatever, and my personal rule number one of finance:
never trust anyone who's trying to sell you on greater-than-market returns. If it worked as well as they made it out to, they wouldn't be sharing the secret. It's more likely that they're looking for a sucker to offload their losses on.
