The Voltron rewrite will always be open for more writers! There only is one issue, our team hasn’t really worked on the rewrite for a bit. Updated summary of what we’re planning! Thank you to @ambrose-nightingale for helping me with a bunch of these!
1. The Paladins wouldn’t all be from Earth, there would be more diversity than just. All humans or mostly human.
-Keith would grow up on Earth by himself after his dad passed away. Once he was old enough, he would enroll into the Garrison by himself. He’d become more and more skilled as pilot and as a fighter—he’d be put on a lot of missions for exploring the solar system. On one of these missions, he’d be able to find his mom, Krolia. She would reveal to him that he is her son, just as in the original, and would then tell him about the Blade of Marmora. Keith would eventually go out to find the Blade, and would join them at age 17. From there, he would figure out Vroluk, or Shiro, is his half brother, whom he’s never met. He’d figure out his real name is Yorak, but would still go by Keith with his friends and family.
-Shiro would be apart of the Blade of Marmora, as implied above. He’d been working with the Blade since he was the same age as a 15 year old human. At 20, he met a mer who named himself Adam. They fell in love, but Shiro had to leave a lot for missions. In his free time he would come see Adam. The Blade would have frequent visits/communications with Earth—Shiro, Matt, and Sam would meet in secret on Kerberos to discuss the Galran empire drawing closer and closer to Earth’s solar system. They would be captured during this discussion—by the Galran empire. The same events would play out as they did in the original. After breaking out, he would return to the Blade of Marmora
-Pidge would be the only one entirely human. They are selectively mute relating to anxiety. Xe communicate through Rover, who instead they built from scratch on Earth (at a young age, around 9-10) instead of reprogramming it. Pidge dealt with a lot of ableism and torment from their classmates on Earth. Once they left Earth in search of their family, xe discovered aliens are a lot more accepting of neurodiversity. They are more open minded and have great respect for what neurodivergent minds can do. Not everyone is accepting of course, but most cultures believe there is no “right way to exist”.
-Hunk would be Balmeran. He’d be the strongest on the whole planet, usually tasked with carrying the biggest crystals to the galrans stationed on Balmera. He’s very spiritual, and very kind. He’d try to take care of the Balmera in any way she could, especially because of how it was being treated. The Balmerans don’t have much to make delicious looking food. So, once she got off Balmera, she’d always look for recipes to try.
-Lance is an Altean prince. Rather than only one Altean kingdom, there is two. One princess, one prince—put into an arranged marriage. Allura is a trans woman, and Lance is a trans man. The only problem is that Allura is lesbian, and Alteans are only accepting of her gender identity. They only saw eachother as friends. The arranged marriage was set only a week after their 18th birthday, but Zarkon attacked just the day before. Lance and Allura were kept in the pods along with Coran, never to marry. When they woke up they were relieved to not have to marry each other, but stayed friends. Coran was accepting, he was like a father figure to them. Some alteans can shapeshift instead of camouflage, which is slightly different, which is how they both transitioned.
2. The relationships would’ve been much different
-as mentioned before, Shiro and Keith would be half brothers who didn’t know of eachother until they met at the Blade of Marmora’s base.
-as mentioned before, Allura and Lance would’ve never dated like in VLD. They would have been put into an arranged marriage that never went through.
-Coran would be Allura’s uncle (by blood) rather than a body guard
-I also realized the fandom always wanted Klance but Plance is my comfort ship, so I made an easy work around! Pidge and Keith would both be dating Lance (they would know the other is dating Lance and would be ok with it), but not eachother. If that makes sense.
-Also rather than treating eachother like co workers, the Paladins would actually be friends
3. Getting rid of the subtle racism and homophobia in the show
-Allura wouldn’t have European features because She’s. She’s literally black, Dreamworks.
-Shiro being gay wouldn’t be limited to one scene at the very end of the show, there would be multiple scenes that show the viewer “hey yeah he’s gay. Here’s actual scenes showing hes gay like we promised”
4. More representation bc we were drained of it
-more scenes of Adam and Shiro! We’d get lots of flashbacks to them hanging out and falling in love. It’d show how Adam felt when Shiro “disappeared” (was captured), and how they felt when he got back. Eventually the flashbacks would turn into how it is in the present, and Shiro would propose.
-All of the Paladins would be ND and other things and queer because they were already coded as that in the original show
Lance- trans man, pansexual and polyamorous, adhd // he/him
Pidge- non-binary, doesn’t use a sexuality label, autistic // they/xe
Hunk- anxiety, asexual, panromantic // he/she
Keith- autistic, depression, asexual, demiboy, gay // they/he
Shiro- anxiety, depression, gay // he/him
Allura- trans woman, lesbian, and bipolar // she/her
Coran- adhd and gay // he/him
So on, there are more characters but these are the main ones
5. The show would leave room for a sequel at the end
-for example, the scene where the lions fly away from Earth would be the very very last scene rather than the where are they now scene. Then, after the credits, it would show some sort of time skip, and then would show someone discovering the blue lion.
6. How they find the lions would also be different, they would find them at different times.
-a thing to mention—there would be quite a lot of foreshadowing to who would pilot which lion. like Pidge having a strong connection to nature because of animals, and the great outdoors is a special interest and source of comfort for xem
-Keith would be the first to find his lion. He would find it on a Galran ship in the middle of a mission with The Blade.
-Hunk would find his while finding Balmeran crystals to give to the Galrans stationed on Balmera.
-And Pidge would find theirs on a moon of Olkari, which was covered in plants just like Olkari.
-Keith uses his lion to save Shiro rather than Shiro being on Earth in the original. Pidge does the same and saves Matt (not Pidge’s dad, that’s later on).
-Then, the red lion (with Shiro going with Keith), the green lion (with Matt going with Pidge), and the yellow lion (with Shay going with Hunk), would all be taken to Arus. once they get there, Lance, Allura, and Coran would be woken up. They help Lance find the Blue Lion on that water planet and then they return to the Castle of Lions to unlock the Black Lion.

In a previous post I said Keith would be raised around galrans, but with the help of @ambrose-nightingale we’ve come up with a different idea!
Keith wouldn’t be picked up by Krolia, rather, Keith would enroll in the Garrison after his dad died by himself, Shiro wouldn’t be present this time. He would grow up as a human, on Earth. As he grew up, he was sent into space for more missions. Eventually, he runs into Krolia on one of these missions. The same scene from Voltron Legendary Defender would happen, Krolia revealing her identity as his mother. And from there, at age 17, Keith would be taken from Earth (willingly). Not a younger age.

How can aliens speak English? How can they all understand each other if they’re from different parts of the universe?
Is a question I see often about Voltron, in my redesign I’ve decided to fix this little issue!
Much more advanced civilizations can copy the languages of those around them very easily, after years of evolution and travel through space. This include Alteans, Galrans, the Olkari, etc.
Less advanced civilizations cannot do this. They can only speak their languages from their planet. Unless they choose to learn other languages one by one. This includes humans, Balmerans, etc.
Groups like alteans can achieve even greater variety with this. Because a power of the alteans is the ability to camouflage, they can copy accents from those languages. Other advanced civilizations can speak it, but it’s clear that it’s not their own language based on how they talk.

Hello! My name is X, and I’m working on redesigning Voltron: Legendary Defender!
Voltron is a hyperfixation of mine, and I’m very passionate about this show. However, this show has many many flaws, and I want to work with the community to redesign the Voltron we wanted.
My writing is okay, but I can’t write for such a big project like this. I’m more of the artist and roleplayer type. It is my hope to find a group of people also passionate who are willing to work with me to create at least a few episodes, even if small episodes, with me. For right now, I’ll be showing off my ideas, taking asks and answering in character or out of character if needed. And I will also be answering any suggestions for this rewrite!
