Other Important Characters

In the games, there are tooons and tons of support characters we meet, such as the Champions, the Professors, and other prominent characters. How do some of them come into play with this AU?

Leon

So what do we know about Leon in the game?

Leon participated in the Gym Challenge with Sonia (Logan, in this AU) and won on his first time. He also trained on the Isle of Armor under Mustard. Aside from that, I don’t think there’s much else we know (but fee free to correct me if I’m wrong).

In this AU, all of this still applies- however what we don’t know is what his relationship with Sonia was like in the past. We can tell they’re not as close as they used to be (which may not be the case in this AU), but is this a newer development? Or did they just tolerate each other as rivals back then?

For the purpose of this AU, I have decided that with Logan’s lore, it would drastically help him to have had a good friend like Leon, so in this take, they were very close friends when they were younger- Logan even joined Leon when he travelled to the Isle of Armor (an event that takes place after Leon becomes champion in this AU... idk if it’s canon in the games that he went before or not but???)! And while they may not be as close as they were when they were kids, Leon is always willing to stand up for his old friend if he’s in a pinch.

Leon’s team, as you may know, varies depending on which starter you choose at the start of the game. If you already have seen Thomas’s (Your Character™️ in Sword and Shield) and Joan’s (Hop) teams, you’ll know that Thomas has a Cinderace, and Hop has a Rillaboom. As such I feel it’s fitting to give Leon the team he has if you choose Cinderace-

Professor Magnolia

Just as in the games, Magnolia is Sonia/Logan’s grandmother, and the prominent Pokemon Professor of Galar. We really don’t know much about where Sonia’s parents are (or if they’re still around) in game, so I of course took it upon myself to create angsty lore for Logan (he’s my favorite character, apparently this is pretty typical of us Logan Stans). If you wanna learn more about Logan’s parents, check out this post- however, big trigger warning for abu$e!

So, after Logan was taken out of his parent’s custody, he was naturally taken to a relative who could care for him- in this case, Magnolia, in the Galar region, who then raised him from the age of seven. From then on, the lore goes along pretty well with what we know from the games, and then she gives Logan her lab coat and retires from being a Professor, outside of giving Logan advice when he needs it.

Professors Kukui and Burnet (and technically Roman and Remus’s mom I guess)

Ah yes, the Alola Professors. Really, the lore for these two goes along well with not just the games... but the anime too? Note: possible spoilers for episodes of Pokemon Journeys not released in English on Netflix in this section!

For their general backstory that is mainly irrelevant to this AU, they met because they were both Professors, it was basically love at first sight and then later Kukui proposes on the beach and they have a beach wedding blah blah blah all the sappy romantic stuff (I’m aroace I’m sorry-).

The important part of their backstory is then their relationship to an OC for this AU- Roman and Remus’s mother, who is a minor, minor character in this AU (in other words I won’t talk about her very much). However I will give her a name just to make it easier for me to talk about her, and her name will be... Sarah. I guess.

Burnet and Sarah met before Burnet met Kukui and became great friends. Of course, after Sarah meets Kukui, the two also become fast friends, and now Sarah is of course a Family Friend™️. Flash forward a few years and Sarah meets a man, falls in love, and has twins. Then the husband... we’ll say leaves because he has grander dreams than raising two twin boys (in other words he’s an a**hole). Of course, Kukui and Burnet step in to help Sarah raise the boys when they can!

And then a fateful day comes when Kukui and Burnet meet Remy (see the post linked in Magnolia’s section for more information on that). They adopt Remy, and since Remy is the same age as the twins, they all become fast friends.

And then a few years after Remy’s adoption, Kukui and Burnet finally have a child of their own- Remy’s little brother, Lei (whose name may be changed if it’s different in English, I don’t know what’s gonna happen with that tbh and we won’t know until March).

That’s pretty much all to know about the Alola Professors. The plot of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon does happen, but before the AU. And not much changes, other than Remus being the extra Elite Four member instead of the one golfer. So yeah!

🌟SHINY POKEMON🌟 IN THIS AU

I’m gonna be honest with y’all, I couldn’t help myself.

I decided to give every single one of the characters one Shiny Pokemon. Why? Because I’m a shiny hunter myself, and I think they’re just the coolest concept. So I thought one shiny per character would work!

Remus’s Secret 7th Pokemon

Remus has a seventh Pokemon, that technically isn’t on his team, but he still uses.

During a trip to Galar (that probably takes place sometime in the present lore of this AU) Remus saw someone’s Galarian Weezing and decided that he absolutely Must Have One At All Costs

So Thomas and Joan took him into the Slumbering Weald cause they remembered seeing one there

No one knows what happened that day, all they know is that they came back in one piece and Remus then had a Galarian Weezing

It usually isn’t on his main team but he decided to use it in official Elite Four battles. He originally used his four Poison types plus Raticate, but then started using the Galarian Weezing instead of Raticate just so his team was fully Poison for League battles just like how the rest of the Elite Four had a specific type.

Remus’s Kantonian Weezing thinks the Galarian Weezing is weird and elitist but still tolerates it

Sanders Sides Pokemon Teams

So I decided to remake this post... because I’ve readjusted several of the boys’ teams and so this was just easier. I won’t be going into as much detail this time though!

TW for mention of ab*se, d**th, and airplane crashes!

Professor Logan Berry

Pokemon Professor

Replaces Sonia from Sword and Shield

Backstory: Born in Hoenn to (TW) ab*sive parents. Moved to Galar to live with his grandmother (Professor Magnolia) after the authorities found out about his parents (and they went to jail). Though a lot of the rest of his childhood was spent adjusting to a life without over-controlling, ab*sive parents, he found that having Pokemon by his side was a great way to adjust to his new life. He did Galar’s Gym Challenge alongside Leon and got to watch as Leon became Champion. He spent a lot of time trying to decide what to do with his life, eventually deciding to carry on his Grandmother’s research as a Professor after researching the Darkest Day while watching Leon’s younger brother, Joan, and Thomas compete in their gym challenge.

Relationships with others: In a QPR with Virgil. Magnolia is his grandmother. Joan is his assistant. Friends with Thomas, Leon, and Emile. Emile is also his therapist.

Sexuality: Aroace.

Became a trainer at Stow-On-Side under Alastor, and ended up taking over the Gym after Alastor decided it was a little too much for him. He’s a very strong Gym Leader and even moved Stow-On-Side up in the ranks of the Major league.

Relationships with others: In a QPR with Logan. Good friends with Alastor, Thomas, Joan, Leon, Magnolia, and Emile.

Sexuality: Asexual/Homoromantic

Backstory: Born and raised in Alola. Did his Island Challenge alongside his brother (Remus) and Remy. He did finish the challenge, but chose not to compete in the League when it was established. He has since decided to pursue the title of Island Kahuna, and is currently working with Melemele Island’s Kahuna, Hala, to reach that goal.

Relationships with others: Twin brother of Remus. Basically a student of Hala. Friends with Remy, Talyn, and Professors Kukui and Burnet.

Sexuality: Very, very gay

Backstory: Patton was born and raised in Kalos. His mother died when he was young, so he was primarily raised by his father, who he’s very close with. His father is also a doctor, which is what inspired Patton to become a doctor himself. He also dabbled in Pokemon Performance when he was younger, but never really pursued it! He’s also exceptionally close with Emile, who is his cousin. They basically grew up together, and he was devastated but supportive when Emile decided to move to Galar.

Relationships with others: Emile is his cousin. Friends with Serena and Shauna (and also their neighbor).

Backstory: Janus was raised in Kanto by a loving family, but he was never happy there. He longed for adventure, for the excitement of visiting someplace new. So, when he turned 18, he decided to leave home. He hadn’t really considered being a trainer yet, as he really didn’t know what he wanted in life yet. His first stop was Unova, and this is where he discovered a true love for traveling- exploring a new region before moving on to find someplace new. This is when he decided that’s what he wanted. This is also when he met his partner Pokemon, a Zorua at the time, after saving him from a Pokemon smuggler. He also then promised that he would protect Pokemon at all costs, with a team of Pokemon of his own at his side. Every single Pokemon on his team was in some way rescued from someone who wanted to use them for their own gain.

Member of Alola’s Elite Four

Backstory: Raised alongside his Pokemon-loving twin brother, Remus decided at an early age that he wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with Pokemon. He refused to pick a partner, and just avoided the subject of trainers at all costs. However, Remus struggled with what he actually wanted to do with his life for most of his childhood. Then, when he was 16, a very fateful day occurred. Remus found a Rattata (Alolan ofc) being bullied by a nearby group of younger kids, and decided to step in to defend it. The Rattata, incredibly grateful, tried to come along with Remus, who insisted that he wasn’t a trainer and to just leave him alone. It wasn’t until one of the kids brought by his older sister that he changed his mind. The older sister challenged him to a Pokemon battle and called him a coward for refusing even though he wasn’t even a trainer. She brought out her Pokemon to attack anyway, and Rattata was the one who stepped in to protect Remus. Remus then decided that maybe being a trainer wouldn’t be so bad, and chose Rattata as his partner. Ironically, Remus then went on to become one of the strongest trainers in Alola, beating the Island Challenge in record time. He also didn’t compete in the League... but only because Kukui asked him to be in the Elite Four! He’s easily the strongest of the Elite Four, but to this day still has yet to beat Alola’s Champion, Talyn.

Relationships with others: Twin brother of Roman. Friends with Talyn, Remy, the other members of Alola’s Elite Four, and Professors Kukui and Burnet.

Backstory: Emile was raised in Kalos basically alongside Patton, his cousin. His Mom and Patton’s Dad were siblings, both of whom had lost their partners in some way. Since Patton’s Dad was a Doctor, Emile’s Mom often babysat Patton for him when he was at work. This is how Emile and Patton became best friends, and even after Patton became old enough to take care of himself when his Dad wasn’t home, he would often come over to hang out with Emile anyway (who lived just a couple houses down the street). Emile’s mom worked from home as a (very successful) author. Emile loved his life in Kalos with Patton and his Mom, but felt like he was lacking something. He ended up deciding to become a therapist, and got accepted into a school in Galar. While he hated to leave his family, Emile had the feeling this was just what he needed to do. Emile ended up loving Galar so much that he decided to stay there even after he finished school and opened up his own therapy business. He’s one of the best therapists in Galar! He also became close friends with Virgil and Logan not long after arriving in Galar, and can’t wait for the day that he can introduce them to Patton.

Relationships with others: Cousin of Patton. Logan’s therapist and good friend. Friends with Virgil, Leon, Magnolia, Thomas, and Joan.

Remy Kukui-Burnet

Tw: mention of d**th and airplane crashes

Remy’s life started out pretty rough. He was only 3 when his parents unfortunately got into a fatal airplane crash when traveling to Sinnoh (Interestingly enough, this crash is very well known in the Pokemon world, because it’s one of the few airplane crashes known to have happened, and the most fatal). He spent a few years in an orphanage, until Alola’s two most well-known Pokemon professors, Kukui and Burnet (who were also married), met Remy when visiting the school he attended. Remy was around 7, and had an incredible fascination with Pokemon. He asked a slew of questions, more than any other kid in the class. It was during lunch that Kukui felt compelled to ask the teacher about Remy, which was when the Professors learned that he was an orphan and the story behind how he was orphaned. The two hadn’t been planning on adopting or really having ANY kids anytime soon, but ended up visiting Remy in the orphanage he was in not long after. They decided to foster him to start, and signed the adoption papers a few months later. The Prince twins’ mom was also close friends with the Professors, and so Remy ended becoming best friends with the twins almost straight away. Roman and Remy actually did their island challenge together. Remy became incredibly curious about how Pokemon can be active while asleep, and ended up deciding to focus primarily on that battle tactic. His team is full of Pokemon who are well-known for being associated with sleeping, dreams, and/or general laziness. Remy still doesn’t know what he’s gonna do with his life, but hasn’t let it bother him too much, and knows he’ll find his calling eventually.

Relationships with others: Adopted son of Professors Kukui and Burnet. Good friends with Roman, Remus, and Talyn.

Sexuality: Sassy gay

I was trying to sleep, but then I came up with a great idea-

It’s time to explain how each of Emile’s Pokemon contribute to his therapy sessions!

We’ll start with Blissey, whose role might seem the most obvious. Blissey is the go-to to help patients with anxiety or even trauma- helping them to relax while in sessions. Because of this, Blissey is vitally important to Emile when it comes to these patients. Almost all of his patients who come for those reasons say that Blissey helped a ton with making talking about issues easier.

Ditto, Emile’s partner, is by his side for every session. Whether it’s transforming into the cartoon character Emile is referencing (Ditto has gotten exceptionally good at this due to watching cartoons with Emile all the time) or even just transforming into someone’s favorite Pokemon, Ditto provides visual aid to what Emile discusses, which helps a ton of patients.

Dubwool also has an important job, which is greeting patients at the door when they come in. Having a fluffy, kindhearted and gentle Pokemon greet patients as they come in helps people relax, and Dubwool will always sit with them until Emile is ready. It even sometimes brings over water for a patient who might be in need of such.

Porygon2 has a role that might seem odd at first. Emile discovered soon after he caught it that it loved being pet, so after it evolved into Porygon2 and Emile started his job as a full-time therapist, Porygon2 started plopping down on the laps of people who it noticed tended to fidget a lot, and its smooth body seems to captivate even the most fidgety off patients, giving their hands something to do while talking with Emile. Porygon2 is especially popular with Emile’s neurodivergent patients.

Stoutland and Smeargle each work with the kids who come to Emile’s office, though they both have different roles.

Smeargle’s job is to help entertain the kids of any adult patient who may have no choice but to bring their kids along. Smeargle’s playful nature and its love of painting make it the best babysitter. Emile trusts Smeargle fully, and all the parents who come in with kids in tow are always grateful to have Smeargle to distract their kids so they can have a meaningful therapy session.

Stoutland’s role is a little different- it takes the role of helping calm kids who come in as patients. Stoutland is gentle, and its fur is soft as can be, so it can help greatly in making therapy a little more fun. The kids always love Stoutland, and sometimes it will even help Smeargle babysit too.

So that’s that! I hadn’t really thought this much into it when I chose Emile’s team, but now I realize that it was really the best team all along. Emile has the perfect team of partners who love to help people just as much as he does.
