Name: Jean Pierre

Fairytale curse: Donkeyskin (Peau d'Âne) by Charles Perrault

A mysterious young man who wears a mask and a donkeyskin cape to hide his face, Jean Pierre was brought to the Märchen after he tried to persuade Karma into buying food for him (while he actually tried to steal his wallet). Jean Pierre lived in a small village in Angielle with his parents and two siblings, an older sister and a younger brother. His mother, the village nurse, was respected by their community and they lived without luxury but with bliss. After the start of the Great War, his father joined the army and his mother followed suit to help the injured with her medical knowledge. However, his father was killed in combat and her mother disappeared after witches attacked her camp. Jean Pierre was raised by his sister during the war, but she despaired after knowing the death of their parents and left for Brugantia, leaving her younger brothers behind. Unable to maintain themselves , Jean Pierre started using his cunning tongue and his good looks to get food and money from the villagers; but after knowing their mother was attacked by a witch he and his brother were banished from the village.

Jean Pierre and his brother then travelled all across Angielle to find shelter and food, always using people’s kindness in their profit and never trying to aid them in return.  They were young and desperate, and they didn’t really think about the consequences of their actions. Jean Pierre’s brother, Alain, had always been sickly, but thanks to his mother’s nursing he’d never been seriously ill. However, winter was particularly harsh that year and Alain became seriously ill. Jean Pierre was unable to seek assistance since many people already felt he was mocking them and trying to steal from them. Jean Pierre couldn’t help his brother travel to a new town in the harsh condition they were in, and Alain passed away that winter. Jean Pierre thought to himself that he brought misfortune to anyone he loved, so he would never love anyone ever again.

Jean Pierre grew and became even more cynical and cunning, effectively becoming a con artist who always got it the way he wanted thanks to his silver tongue and beautiful face. However, he could never stay much time in the same place, since rumors ran quickly and people wouldn’t trust him. Eventually he made it to the capital, where he tried to keep a low profile while still making a fake reputation with everyone he met, claiming he was a merchant from a faraway country. Most citizens didn’t notice his lies until they realized they’d given all of his savings to Jean Pierre for some merchandise they’d never get.

Jean Pierre was cursed after he crossed paths with a woman and he claimed he could obtain her a magical pendant from a witch. The woman laughed and said “You fool! What interest could I have into a product I know I’ll never get? Such as with the people of this town and many more in Angielle, you’ve only taken profit of his kindness. Thus, I’ll cast a curse upon you, a curse you won’t be released of until you find three people that you love and love you in return!”

As a consequence of the curse, Jean Pierre must wear the donkey skin at all times in public, and a mask to hide his face even when he’s alone. He can’t lie anymore about his heritage and belongings, as the donkey skin is a proof of his true nature as a poor man. Jean Pierre tried to fake he was an ill man to obtain some money and sympathy from the citizens. That is until Karma discovered him and brought him to the Märchen, where Parfait made him a waiter. He may be cunning in the outside, but after Lucette and his friends meet him, he may have a chance at being loved, both as a friend and as a lover…

A compilation of stuff I know about drawing Asian faces and Asian culture! I feel like many “How-To-Draw” tutorials often default to European faces and are not really helpful when drawing people of other races. So I thought I’d put this together in case anyone is interested! Feel free to share this guide and shoot me questions if you have any! I’m by no means an expert, I just know a few things from drawing experience and from my own cultural background. 

apparently ppl don’t know about waifu2x??? despite its… concerning name it’s literally the most convenient website i’ve ever come across as an artist

it allows you to resize artwork without it becoming pixellated. this is a MASSIVE help if you, for example, make lineart too small or something. it works best with things that 1. have no textures 2. have smooth lines 3. have cel shading, but it still works really damn well for things that don’t fit that profile

Just a quick tip to artists

If you’re an artist who likes to work really close, (like me), do yourself a favor and put up two views. You can do this by clicking View–> New on your toolbar.

There’s nothing worse than finally zooming out and realizing what you were doing was very wrong. This saved me a lot of grief tbh. I’m sure everyone knows this already but ._.;; I arrived quite late to that party.
