I’m really new to AO3 and this is probably a really broad question so it’s okay if I’m not being clear enough but like, how do I participate? I don’t understand what “claiming” means in this context. I read the post and clicked the link to sign up and stuff but I’m not sure how it all works. Again, sorry if this is super vague and/or confusing.
Hey, you're all good! Welcome, and thank you for wanting to participate!
If you want to, you can submit prompts that other people can fill. For example, one of your prompts might be: "Pepper schedules a surprise birthday party for Tony." In order to submit prompts, you're going to go to our AO3 collection, then:
Select "Prompt Form" on the side menu, and fill out the template. You can provide up to 4 prompts.
If you don't want to provide any prompts but do want to write a fic or draw some art, no worries.
Again, you go to the same AO3 page, click "Prompts", and if one jumps out at you, click "Claim." That person may have up to 4 prompts listed. You only have to fill one prompt with your work.
I really hope this makes sense, and come back if it doesn't!
TL;DR: Claiming means you claim a prompt and want to write a fic/make art based off of said prompt.
