Part of our Part 5 fanfic where Bucciaratti died at the Colosseum. We’ll probably post the full fic, but this is the 3rd chapter that sets up Fugo and Giorno’s bond in the fic, and our page focuses a lot of Fugio so..

Chapter 3- Fugo’s Grief

Bucciaratti’s death hasn’t been an easy one, on anyone… it’s hard to believe I couldn’t bring him back. It feels like I should’ve been there soon, maybe if I was I could’ve saved him…

Fugo’s been watching guard on the boat, I know Bucciaratti’s death has been heartbreaking for him. I can only imagine, I don’t know much about their bond, but Fugo was the first member of Bruno’s group.

I should check on him, the turtle has been…. depressing of late anyway. No one knows exactly what to do with Bucciaratti gone. And I can hear the rewinds Abbacchio does at night… he’s not himself..

I exit the turtle to find Fugo staring off into the distance, he seems so lost.

I try to find the words, but what’s there to say? I want to offer some kind of comfort to him. To show him he isn’t alone in his grief, I don’t want him to be too consumed by his thoughts. I just worry about how this would effect Fugo, he already had enough to deal with.

I sit next to him, and I offer comfort in the only way I can at the moment, simply being there. He takes notice of me, but doesn’t seem to react much. In fact, he even moves away.

“Fugo..” I start, knowing I have to think carefully about what i say to him. “Please… just..just don’t. I just need a second… I just need a second to understand he’s gone..”. He begins to beg, hugging himself like a scared child. I simply nod.

“This isn’t burden to carry Fugo, you don’t have to go… there’s no reason you can’t stay. It’s obvious you need time…” I immediately quiet down after those words, hoping I didn’t cross any boundaries on accident.

I went to touch his shoulder, only to get my hand slapped away.

“Don’t talk like you understand ANY of this! The man we all looked up to, the man I saw as… He chose some girl over his life with us. What difference would it make if she died? It’s not like we haven’t done worse.. He didn’t even know her for that long!! A FEW FUCKING DAYS IS THE ALL THE TIME WE HAVE WITH HER!”

He looked down and began to sob. “What am I even supposed to do? That… that girl is what Bruno sacrificed his life for, who am I if I just stand there and do nothing?” He began to rant.”I don’t want his sacrifice to go to waste… but the last thing I want is to die for that GIRL.” He finally turned his head to look at me as he breaks down.

“I don’t want to die at all Giorno. Oh god, I don’t wanna die.”

“Fugo, you can trust me to do it, I’ll do this no matter what, you don’t have to be the only one to carry this burden. I know you and him were close, you can go if you choose. You don’t have to stay, this is your ch-“. I’m cut off mid sentence as he grabs me by my jacket.

“I don’t want to hear your stupid SELF RIGHTEOUS SPEECH!” He pulls me close to his face, in a manner I’d find threatening if I didn’t feel so sad for him. “Do you have any idea how hard this has been on me?! ON NARANCIA?!! I’m the one he cries to! Do you have any idea how it feels for Abbacchio?! He’s rewinding like crazy, he wants to stay stuck in those happy memories.. I-“. And for a second, he simply stops.

“I’m sorry.” He says as he lets go of my jacket “ I don’t… I don’t want to hear that right now.. I’m not just staying for Bucciaratti’s memory Giorno, I-I can’t abandon them. I can’t abandon Narancia in his grief.”

And in that moment, I understand. Fugo doesn’t want to leave his family. He’s not cut out for this, he’s obviously scared to die, and honestly there’s no way he can truly help with his stand. But this runs so much deeper than him helping or Bruno’s unfortunate death. They ALL loved Bruno, he’s not just leaving the mission. He’d be leaving them behind..

I look at him and simply wrap my arms around him, hoping it’ll offer some comfort. And to my suprise, that does more than any of my words did. He clutches on to me and begins to sob.

There’s nothing to say anymore, the most I can do is be a safe place for him. For the others.

And honestly… this feels nice. After everything that’s happened, I didn’t think something as stupid as a hug would make it feel slightly better.

I hold him until he eventually cries himself to sleep.

I pull him into the turtle so he can finally get some rest after days of stress and grief.

I’ll take over watching for now.
