Jason Herbert | 21 ✗ Music Composition/Instrumental Performance | FC: Chad Michael Murray
↳“So long and thanks for the fish.”
Apartment:
Clubs:  Video Game Club
Teams:  Aca-Carpa, Track Team
Workstudy/Occupation: Interns at a Music Studio
What They’ve Been Doing Until Now:
Jason Herbert was born in Good Hope, Georgia and helped with managing his family’s plantation when he was young. His father, fed up with the plantation when Jason was eight, moved the whole family up to NYC, convincing his mother it would be better that way. Jason attended school in New York and went to LaGuadriea Art School which is a top notch high school that he got into with his music composition but after a nasty divorce his mother had them move back down to Good Hope to be with her family. Once he was back in Georgia he was able to skip a grade in high school, finish that and then go on to night school; where he took as many classes in business and music theory. When not attending night school, Jason spent his days helping work around the family’s large plantation and earning money from his Uncle to help him earn enough money to move back to New York.
What They Do Currently
Jason has currently been living in New York for the past three months. He was working on an internship over the summer with a music production company as one of their training sound editors. He’s been trying to get into the music program at a nearby arts forum over the next summer, and has been laying groundwork since he got into New York. When he’s not at work though, he’s Skyping his little sister back home in Georgia.
Their Passion and How They Practice It
He is very passionate about music. Most of the time Jason prefers to write out the music that he hears in his head. That is his preferred medium of choice. If he is working out a tune and can’t do it theoretically, then he either plays on the piano or with the instrument that he is thinking of. His favorite instrument to practice on is the french horn, but usually a piano is more accessible. The two major genres of music that Jason likes to write in are baroque and any type of jazz. Most of his jazz is inspired by a mixture of rat pack and louis armstrong. He likes to stick to the classics he grew up listening to. Currently though, Jason has been experimenting with more pop-like and techno beats and atonal compositions.

1. I’m mostly interested in…getting to know all the other students that are at Lancaster Academy. I’m pretty personable, and I’d really like to get out of my apartment in Chicago. But uh- yeah that whole “you’ll let me come and I can do my music” thing is a huge factor too. I’ve outgrown all the theory and composition classes I could take back home. I need more of a challenge.
2. I started playing when I was 11. My mom and dad were listening to this Frank Sinatra CD and I was really interested in copying the sounds I heard in his song “Come Fly With Me”. That’s when I started to play around on the piano. I never really got any formal lessons until I was thirteen. But at that point I’d already learned the french horn, guitar, and saxophone. Not to mention I was beginning to compose my own jazz pieces. Sometime during high school I took the Advanced Music Theory class, and came to realize that classical music was my true calling. Nowadays I like to tinker around with atonal pieces, but Classical and Jazz are my stronger suits.
3. Frank Sinatra inspired me the most. Without his songs I never would have become interested in Jazz to begin with. He’s been a pretty big inspiration for me.
4.I guess I’d have to say Friendship. I don’t really believe in love all that much, and I already have a lot of money. And power, that’s more for someone who wants to be an evil scientist. Not a musician.
5. My most obvious weakness? Alcohol. Yeah, I know I’m not supposed to be drinking, but a silly law isn’t going to stop me. (Note: Applicant was 20 during the interview) Of course, it’s not like I can’t stop any time I want to. My strength? That would be the force. Just kidding. Uh…my strength is probably my personality. I’m easy going and generally get along with everyone I meet.
6. Career-wise? I’d like to be a musician or a world-class composer. Not many people make it big in that department, but I’d like to think I can beat the odds. If that doesn’t work then I can always get into music production, or go mainstream and just start a band. The possibilities are endless. Personally, I’d like to think that I’ll get a pet some day. I’m not really good in relationships. I tried that once and it wasn’t really working out for me. I’d rather just play the field, or play video games.
7. What I did was amazing this summer. I went to San Diego and had a lot of fun at comic con. The panels were off the hook! I even bought a darth vader toaster while I was there. And…maybe a few more light sabers for my collection. Also, you’d be amazed how many girl love a guy who can pull off a good Han Solo costume.
8. My family is pretty…messed up. My parents got divorced a few years ago, and my mom is already dating this new guy, Paul. My older sister moved out as soon as she could and I think she’s living in Europe somewhere with her stupid international model boyfriend. My dad hasn’t talked to me since the divorce, and I don’t really want to either. He’d rather go to work than get to know me. My mom is probably the only normal one. She’s just a typical stay at home mom, and she cares about all of us. Only person in my family that I care about though, is my little sister. Julie is a pretty special kid, and I’ll miss her the most at Lancaster Academy.
9.You ever read Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy? It’s a pretty good book. It’s got a literal two faced hippy politician, a depressed robot, a super computer, and the number 42. What isn’t there to love?
10. When I was 9 I was kicked in the shin by a horse. It shattered my left tibia and it took me forever to get the strength back in my leg. After a few years, I was able to overcome the embarrassment of my limp, and now I’m completely fine when I walk. But for a while…I felt like the stupid kid that couldn’t walk right.
ROOMMATE
11. I’m not exactly OCD, but everything should have a place in the room. I like to fold my things and put them away. I can’t have anything laying around on the floor for too long. I also have gotten in the habit of keeping things high off the ground since I have a little sister that likes to put her hands on anything she can reach. Also, if someone leaves something dirty for too long, I will either clean it or throw it away. So be warned.
12. I mostly drink, but I smoke sometimes when I’m very stressed or someone offers me a cigarette. I don’t mind if others smoke, just as long as they don’t get their ashes everywhere.
13. My favorite food is toast. I’m not a big eater, I don’t really have time to eat when I’m working on my pieces or homework for other classes. So…yeah. I don’t cook. But toast tides me through the day, and when I have time I’ll order food or go over to a friend’s place that has food I can tolerate.
14. I tend to not associate myself with any religion. But if you ask my mother…then I’m catholic.
15. I was thinking about getting a cat. I used to have this one cat, Amanda, when I was younger but she died. I’m just not sure if I want to get a cat just yet. It’s a lot of responsibility and I’m usually pretty busy. But when the time is right, or I find someone to share custody of the cat with, then I will definitely get one.
16. I hate candy. Hate. It. Sugar is one of the most disgusting things on the planet. I don’t eat chocolate, candy, cake, cookies, anything with sugar in it. it’s just gross. I also can’t stand the rain. Unless I”m swimming or taking a shower or washing my hands, I don’t want to be wet. I prefer to stay inside and stare at the rain until it goes away. I like to think that if I stare at the rain long enough, it’ll feel intimidated and go away. Oh, and I like to entertain company on occasion. You know…the “sleep over” kind of company. But only when I’m not busy with a piece, or I’m just bored. Uh…yeah that’s about it. Actually, okay not quite it. If anyone else hears about this though I will hurt someone. But, I like to watch my little pony: friendship is magic. I’m a closeted Brony. I make up for it though with my love of star wars. I an guarantee you that I’m well versed in the ways of the force and will use my light sabers against you if you mention that I like mlp.
Para Sample:
What. The. Hell?
Jason tried to regain his breathing as he woke up in the early morning. “Oh God…” he ran a hand through his hair and he tried to shut out the images he had in his mind. “That did not just happen,” he took in a deep breath and got up out of bed. Jason wasn’t going to want to sleep again after that terrifying experience.
“Jason! Jason I have your CD!” he heard a familiar voice call down the hall as he walked out of his apartment. Looking back, he froze, not wanting to talk to her at all. If he could avoid her for the rest of eternity he would… “Uh- thanks. Hope you uh- liked it,” he began to avoid eye contact with her. He didn’t want to ever see her again. The images from last night might become more engrained in his head if he saw her face now. “Jay…are you okay?” Jason heard her call him the name she called him last night.
“Me? I’m fine, why wouldn’t I be fine? What’s there not to be fine about? I’m good. I’m cool. Stellar. I’ll just take my CD and go now. Have a good day Emma. We should catch up some time soon. Well not soon…maybe like…never. Yeah, that sounds good. Fun to talk to you.  Bye,” Jason rambled on and on trying no erase the thoughts he was reliving. Feeling like he might get sick or say something stupid, Jason turned around to leave.
The day continued on just like any other. When it came time for food, Jason decided to walk back to his apartment for something quick to eat. He didn’t have any classes in the afternoon, but he did have studio time that he was looking forward to having. However, when he walked into the building he saw Emma waiting for him. “Jason! Hey!” Jason avoided her and began to walk quickly past her. He didn’t want anything to do with her right now. He couldn’t handle it. “Jason! Slow down. I gave you the wrong CD this morning!” She huffed as she followed him up the stairs.
“What do you want? Why can’t you leave me alone!? Stop haunting me!” Jason turned around and yelled at her. He was freaking out. Never before had he ever acted like this in front of a girl, but now he wasn’t able to keep his cool. He unbuttoned his shirt a bit to give himself some air. He felt like he couldn’t breathe. “What do you mean? I-I didn’t know I was haunting you…” Emma stood at the top of the stairs, looking quite confused as she stared at Jason. His hair was disheveled, his eyes looked wide and panicked, and he was breathing heavily. “Yes, yes you are! So…you just…stay out of my dreams!” Jason pointed a finger at Emma and yelled some more before turning around and going straight to his apartment. If he was lucky she wouldn’t follow him and he could live in peace and continue avoiding her.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
“Jase…open up. It’s been three days. You need to stop hiding and talk to someone bro,” Jason heard Axton knocking on his door. Jason stealthily opened his front door and peered his head out just enough to see that it was just Axton at the door. “You didn’t bring anyone with you did you?” he felt as paranoid as he looked. Jason hadn’t shaved in three days, and was wearing a bathrobe and boxers. His gaming console was still in his hand when he answered the door. “Uh…I wouldn’t say that…”
“Hi Jay,” Emma popped her head in front of Jason’s and pushed the door open so he couldn’t close it in her face. Jason gave a light shriek and stepped back from his door. “I think we need to talk. You’ve been avoiding me, why?” She put her hands on her hips and Jason couldn’t look away or avoid her this time. “Explain yourself,” she just stood there. Jason didn’t know what to do with himself. He hadn’t been sleeping well, the same images kept flooding his mind and he didn’t know why. He just wanted the nightmares to end.
“I uh…” Jason didn’t know what to say. One minute he was looking at her, and the next minute…she looked like she did in his mind. “I-I can’t talk about it. Just…leave me alone..” He sat down on his couch and ran a hand through his hair. “Why can’t you talk to me about it? What did I do? Did I keep the CD for too long? Is that it?” Emma put her hand on his knee and looked worriedly at him. “I didn’t mean to if that’s what’s upsetting you.”
“No, it’s not that…it’s…” Jason took a deep breath and just let it all out. “I might have had a…wet dream about you.” He winced and then looked at Emma slowly to see how she would take it. “A wet dream?” Emma began to laugh. “Is that what this is all about?” She continued to laugh harder. “What kind of sex dream?” She couldn’t contain her laughter. Jason just sat on the couch in a state of defiance and wrapped his robe around himself in a pride like fashion.
“If you must know…I was Han Solo…and you were….Princess Leia. And you were…wearing that…you know. The slave girl bikini for Jaba the Hut…and then you started to dance for me…and then your bikini started coming off and you took out your hair and I just…gah!” Jason put his head in his hands and tried to bleach away the images. Emma, however, lifted Jason’s face up to meet her eyes. “You dreamt that I was Princess Leia and that you had sex with me, and now you won’t talk to me?” She let her thumb brush against his cheek. Jason just closed his eyes and nodded. “Every time I see you, you’re wearing that bikini now. It’s engrained in my mind. I can’t stop thinking about it…and you’re you so I just kept avoiding you. I didn’t want to think about this…” Jason sighed and then looked at her.
“How long have these dreams been going on? Or was it just the one time?” Emma looked curiously at Jason. He just sighed again and closed his eyes hoping that he wouldn’t be judged. “I might have been…dreaming about this for the past four days, and every night you get…better…” he felt mortified. He was Jason Herbert. He could sleep with any girl he wanted. But with his music deadline approaching he hadn’t been with a girl in a few weeks. And now…he was having sex dreams about Emma! It was as bad as it could get. They were just friends. Sure they’d kissed a few times, but he wasn’t going to admit that he thought about her in a sexual way. That was just between him and his…mind. But now, the cards were laid out on the table. And now she knew, and was laughing at him. Any girl should feel honored to be put in a sex dream in the role as Princess Leia in that bikini. It should be every girl’s goal to get to that status in a sex dream of any kind.
“I get better? Gee, thanks Herbert.” She kissed him on the cheek and patted his face before letting go of him. “Listen, next time you have a sex dream about me, just tell me. I don’t care what goes on in your pants, just keep it there. Alright?” She got up and smiled at him before walking out the door. Jason just sat there and looked over to see that Axton had been standing there the whole time.
“That’s just sick bro..” he shook his head and laughed before walking out and closing the door behind him.
One month later
“Oh Han…I thought I’d lost you for good. When they took you and put you in carbonite…I thought I’d never see you again!” Leia dramatically rested her head against Han’s chest and began to uncontrollably sob with happiness. “I know, but now that I’m back, we can make up for lost time,” Han lifted up Leia’s chin so that he could passionately kiss her. The kiss grew too hot too fast, and in a whirlwind of heated passion, Jason began to take off Emma’s top…
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Jason woke up from his sleep again in a cold sweat. He tried to regain his breathing and looked at the numbers on the clock radio by his bed. It was four in the morning. Yeah…she should be up. She’s crazy like that.
Walking out of his apartment, Jason went up the stairs to find Emma’s and knocked on her door. When she opened it up, she was in nothing but a towel and her hair was wet. “Jason…what’s wrong?” She looked confused as ever. Jason didn’t know what to say. The dream was still replaying back in his mind and then he just couldn’t take it anymore. So he kissed her. It was long and filled with heated tension, but when he pulled away he said, “Wrong? Nothing’s wrong, it’s actually right.” He smirked at her just like he usually did and gave her a two finger salute. “Nice bath towel, I’ll be going now. Have a nice day,” and with that he walked back down to his room, never to have the dream again.

What They’ve Been Doing Until Now:
Noah was born in St. Louis, adopted to a pair of moms who did their best to make his childhood a good one. Mama G worked in a jewelry store, her artisan jewelry selling for a pretty penny, while Mama L was a stay at home mother who took care of most of the housework as well as Noah, himself. The boy grew up happy and with all the toys, books and love he could ask for. Once school time came around Noah wasn’t sent off into the world as expected. Instead, his parents chose to keep him home, his mother giving him education through homeschooling. Noah flourished in his studies, being especially passionate about Art as well as English, constantly bothering Mama L to do more projects and studies in these subjects.
There’s a common idea that most homeschooled kids are awkward and don’t get enough contact with other children, but with Noah, only part of that was true. His mother made sure to take him out and about on field trips with other children, but Noah never really warmed up to most of them. He was nervous and awkward, finding it hard to spend much time outside of the family home. It didn’t take long before his parents had him checked out by a psychiatrist and by the time Noah was of middle school age he was taking medication for anxiety and going through sessions to deal with his agoraphobia. None of it helped a lot but his parents were the sort that tried to keep him happy and let him find ways to possess strengths in spite of his weakness.
That’s how Noah found comics and help for his problem. He started out drawing his parents over and over, caricatures of them in every scene in the panels he drew and inked. His Mama L realize that this might be the way to get the boy out of the house and dealing with his problems. They started slow, with Noah going on shopping trips and other sorts of things, a sketchbook in his hand. He found it easier to deal with the anxiety as a bystander and not a participant in life. He could draw the people around him and turn them into heroes or villains, the control all at the end of his pen. Noah slowly learned how to participate and cope outside of his home but his social awkwardness will never entirely go away.
The rest is history. Noah made it through life as an only child of two moms and once he had passed his high school exams he was encouraged on to college. He started at a university nearby so he could still live in a place that he found safe, which is where he found his penchant for drawing wasn’t just a hobby so much as a career. His first comic book came out a few months ago and he couldn’t be happier. He heard about Lancaster and applied after a lot of hesitation. Now? He’s slowly trying to come out of his shell and make friends, something he’s never done, while keeping mostly to himself out of fear.
What They Do Currently:
Noah does a lot of artwork for his comics and otherwise. He’s stayed away from the limelight of the comic scene, not sure he can handle interviews and signings. Besides, as far as he’s concerned, he’s not that good anyway. He goes to classes and tries to make his moms proud, making sure his grades are good. However, he is a little lonely now that he has nobody he knows around him. He’d like to make friends but isn’t sure how to do so. Most of the time he just sits on the sidelines sketching people around him, and hoping he’ll get up the nerve to talk to people. His ultimate goal is to put out a second comic book, but he wants to find a real writer to help. This has been giving him the motivation to at least try talking to others, even if he rarely manages to actually do it.
Their Passion and How They Practice It:
Noah’s passion is for art, but more specifically for comic book art. He found a love for the colored pages early on in life and it never left him. Before long he was writing and drawing characters based on the people around him, something he only considered a hobby. That’s until he was sent off to university. He was in the design program honing his skills in graphic design, something he knew he could have a career in, despite it not being his top passion. One of his Professors stumbled upon him drawing in his sketchbook and saw the talent. He was introduced to an agent in the comic book world and before long Noah was signing a contract for his own book, a fantasy story about a female mail carrier who runs into danger on her job each day. Nowadays, Noah is busy working on his book as well as brainstorming others. He hopes to find someone at Lancaster who is interested in writing to come on for his second book, but isn’t sure that will happen. How many years have they been in this program or is this there first year? This is Noah’s first year.

Name and Preferred Gender Pronoun: Trent, he/him Age: 32 Timezone: CST Skype Name: (Optional) rollie.ollie
IC INFO:
Full Name: Noah Isaiah Brownstone Face Claim: Sinqua Walls Age: 21 Sexuality: Noah is pansexual, although he hasn’t had any experience with relationships and assumes he’s heterosexual at this point in his life. Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri Major/Talent: Comic Book Art Teams/Clubs/Workstudy: Swim Team, Crafts Club, Video Game Club, Board Game Club, Lifeguard Work Study
IC QUESTIONS:
1.Why are you interested in becoming a student at Lancaster Academy? I want to get better at art. I want to uhm, well, I want to meet people as driven as me, I guess. I just want to sort of grow up. I don’t know. I just want to be better at what I do and maybe learn to be a bit – well, more independent and stuff. 2.Why are you passionate about your talent? Was it something that happened in your life? Was it someone inspiring you to get into it? I always loved comic book heroes. Being a kid that felt kind of weird and lonely, it gave me some kind of hope. And then I got into drawing and it escalated. The truth is art got me through some really hard times and it’s something I have to do. 3.Who in your industry has inspired you the most? Alex Ross. The man is a genius artist. His covers and posters are gold. If I had the chance to work with him I’m not even sure what I would do. He’s definitely my idol. 4.If you could choose which one would you say is most important to you: Love, Power, Wealth or Friendship and why? I’m gonna go off the grid and say none of these, it’s family. I’m not sure how I’m going to exist without my moms. I guess if I have to pick one I’d say love but that’s not something in my life really anyway. 5.What is your most obvious weakness and strength? My most obvious weakness is uhm – well, my social skills. My most obvious strength is probably my gift of perception. 6.What are your long-term goals career wise? Personal wise? Long term I want to be the kind of artist who people know. I want to be one of the comic guys that kids look up to his characters, you know? I want to make a difference. It’s not about the money to me, not so much. Although that’s nice too. Personally, I want to work on my anxiety and making friends. I could use some help with that. 7.What did you do this summer? I spent a lot of times with my moms before I came to Lancaster. We spent a lot of quiet time together. The rest of the time? Packing. It’s more brutal moving than I ever knew. 8.Tell me about your family? I got two moms. Mama G and Mama L. They’re great, perfect. Anyone starts crap over them? Well, that’s the one thing that makes me mad. My moms are all I got, extended family has never been very close to us. 9.Recommend a good book for me. A regular book? Because if it’s comics I could go on forever and ever. Alright uhm hmm. I really liked Paper Towns. I know John Green is kind of overrated but that one did something to my heart. I’m a teddy bear, what can I say? 10.Tell me about a challenge that you’ve overcame. Well, alright. I have agoraphobia. I assume you know what that is. It’s something I’ve fought, along with my anxiety, for pretty much forever. Coming to this school, away from home and people I know, well even putting this app in is me overcoming a challenge. I’d like Lancaster to be a challenge that helps me get myself together.
ROOMMATE QUESTIONS:
11. Where are you at on the scale of neatness? I guess I’m pretty neat. I mean I’m not obsessive or anything but I’m not gonna leave my dishes laying around or my underwear scattered all over the room.  12.Do you smoke/mind if others do? Is it a severe hazard to your health? I don’t really smoke but it doesn’t bother me too much. I mean as long as we aren’t talking chain smoking day and night, I could maybe deal wit hit. 13.What are your favorite kinds of food? Can you cook? I can cook a little, nothing really special. I like Italian a lot and good old American is good too. I make a mean stir fry! 14. Which religion do you associate yourself with and do you want us to consider that while find a roommate? I’m not really religious or any of that. I figure live and let live, I don’t care what my roommate identifies with. It’s all good by me. 15. Do you have any pets or thinking of getting one? I don’t got any right now. I’m not sure I’d know how to take care of one. Maybe a fish or something. So no, not right now. Maybe some day. 16.Anything else we need to know? Nah, I mean, I’m just a chill dude trying to get his life going. I appreciate the chance.
PARA SAMPLE AND ETC:
Noah’s head was down, his tongue clamped down between white teeth, as he let the green colored pencil dart along the page. Hues of violet, red and yellow were scattered almost haphazardly about, anyone looking down would wonder if this were the case of a boy coloring things in randomly. But Noah had a plan, as Noah always had a plan when he put pen to paper and brought a world to life. And this time it was beautiful.
The idea for the comic had taken hold when his mailwoman, a girl in her twenties who always had a spring in her step, had rang the door to drop off a package. Noah had been asked to answer it, partially because Mama L was busy and partially because Noah was often asked to do these things. They were gauges of how he was doing with this agoraphobia and anxiety. This day Noah had popped an anxiety pill and went for the front door, opening it without much trouble. And there she was, Cara, his mail carrier. He’d grabbed the package and tossed out a few pleasantries but something snapped inside him. He had his story.
That’s why Noah was sitting on the patio of the restaurant outside of his university drawing. He’d been at it for hours, first with pencils and pens to draw outlines and now with colored pencils that he smudged into the work. His fingers steadily held the instruments of his talent as he drew a mail lady and monsters she came upon on her travels. The monsters were Noah’s own fears about the world beyond his family’s doors but they came alive as three legged creatures with large teeth that were chasing the star of the show.
Noah paused in his coloring when a woman stopped at his table, offering him more coffee. A sheepish grin found his features as he looked up, taking in pink locks and a lime green shirt. He nodded to her question about coffee, watching as the steaming liquid filled his cup. It occurred to him that he needed more cream, he’d already used all of it that was at his table and he opened his mouth as if to speak but nothing came out.
Typical Noah. The waitress didn’t notice and took off in a hurry, filling more cups and grabbing more dishes to clean. The boy with his art merely grimaced, mad at himself for not being like everyone else. Not being capable of the most mundane things. If he couldn’t ask a girl for more cream for his coffee there was next to no chance he was ever going to get a date. Noah’s half grin had turned into a frown and he leaned back in his chair with his coffee in hand, the nearly scalding liquid serving as punishment for his lack of social skills.
Something had to change, but Noah wasn’t sure what or how.

What Their Childhood Was Like:
At a young age, Orion loved words. He loved staring at the words on the page rather than the pictures in the children’s books his mother read to him as a young boy. He always found them so much more beautiful than the illustrations on the pages because the words contained mysteries hidden in symbols and sound.  He had a happy family life, until his father left him and his mother.  His father was the source of monetary stability, and when he left, it left both Orion and his mother in a difficult place. His mother had to get a second job leaving Orion alone with relatives when she couldn’t take him with her.
As Orion got older, he began to find solace in unraveling the mysteries of language and literature, spending his free time writing and reading rather than playing with the other children in the park. It wasn’t that he hated to socialize and it wasn’t that he was horrible at it either: He just got distracted by his own thoughts that he would begin to write down, soon lost in a world composed completely of the written world, blocking out everyone and everything else.
When he was in High school, he surpassed many English courses with his already substantial and vast knowledge of literature; he was immediately pushed into the advanced courses, where his teachers would encourage him to write more. Orion always loved it, and writing was not only his escape, but his life. He very quickly began writing longer and longer passages that quickly evolved into a novel, which he finished his junior year in High school.
What They've Been Doing Until Now:
Orion has been studying various languages, trying to gain a more rounded understanding. So far he has learned and speaks fluently Spanish and Italian. Considering the two are quite closely related, he found it easy to learn both. He also has started on learning the basics of Latin and Greek. Orion has been studying various mythologies and how they play apart in early culture, and the histories of the UK and Europe, just for kicks.
What They Do Currently:
He has been working on a second novel, and still working on continuing to expound his knowledge of language and history. He found a part time job to help with the monetary flow, just as a precaution. The royalties from his book isn’t anything to sneeze at, however.
Their Passion and How They Practice It:
Writing. He writes every day, carrying around several journals, each with mindless scribbling that only makes real sense to him.  And also typing on his computer, he has countless documents saved, and he even has scrivener, which is almost full to capacity with overlying plot twists, characters and themes.

  IC Questions:
1. Why are you interested in becoming a student at Lancaster Academy?
Orion scoffed, tilting his head to the side. “It has some of the best opportunities for someone of my stature.” he said casually with a wave of his hand ”And it is one of the precious few islands of knowledge that offer any real challenge for me, academically speaking.” He finished with a smug grin plastered on his face.
2. Why are you passionate about your talent? Was it something that happened in your life? Was it someone inspiring you do get into it?
“Because I’ve always been.” Orion said with suddenness. He shook his head, as if trying to make the ideas in his head logical. ”I mean, have you ever tried to comprehend why certain sounds and vowels match together so perfectly? Matching words to fit together in perfect syntax is like a tango, or a song. Like two puzzle pieces finally coming together to reveal the hidden beauty shattered like a mirror that has fallen 7 stories. “Orion looked down at his hands before realizing that he was gesticulating a mirror falling 7 stories. He resumed his posture, fixing his hair after speaking with such passion. He cleared his throat before answering the next questions.
“No, nothing in particular happened in my life, and the only inspiration I’ve had were my previous English professors who only ever encouraged me to do my best, and were utterly honest with me. “ he said simplistically ,hoping he hadn’t made too much of a fool of himself.
3. Who is your industry has inspired you the most?
“Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Edgar Allen Poe (Cliché, I know), Terry Prachett, Brandon Sanderson, Chuck Palahnuik … You know, the usual. “Orion rattled on, mixing his classical influences with his contemporary.  He treated them both with the respect he felt they deserved. He had collected almost all of their books, which Prachett , for lighter reading of course, filled nearly his entire library. He always did enjoy the dry humor the author supplied.
4. If you could choose which one would you say is most important to you: Love, Power, Wealth or Friendship and why?
Power, naturally. Power is the ability to acquire Wealth. It may not be able to incur love or friendship, but I’ve gotten along pretty well with just my mother. With power, I could do nearly anything I really would like. I could spend my days, writing without worrying about being bothered, I could help others, because they would respect and look up to me. You don’t need love or friendship to help others.
5. What is your most obvious weakness and strength?
My obvious weakness is my ability to handle situations delicately. I’m rather blunt, and people are dreadfully obtuse. I have no problem socializing, but if someone is horribly ignorant, I will not be cruel enough to let them continue dwelling in their ignorance.
My strength are my words, and how I carry myself. I’m quite confident.
6. What are your long-term goals career wise? Personal wise?
Become an award winning author, and hopefully acquire the Pulitzer prize. Personal wise, I suppose my goal would be to learn how to be more… compassionate.
7. What did you do this summer?
I wrote, naturally. I helped my mother around the house in Bath, and I acquired a part-time job at the Library.
8. Tell me about your family?
It’s just my mother and I. My bastard of a father left us when I was little, about 5 years old or so. Ran off gallivanting with some tramp of a woman, as a result, I am very protective of my mother.
9. Recommend a good book for me.
I would recommend the Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky- or if you’re in a particular light- reading mood, Dodger by Terry Prachett.
10. Tell me about a challenge that you’ve overcame.
My father leaving my mother and me; it was a difficult and challenging time for both my mother and I. My mother wasn’t quite financially, nor emotionally, stable for some time after wards.  Neither was i.
Roommate Questions:
11. Where are you at on the scale of neatness?
On the stereotypical scale of 1 – 10, I am a 19.
12. Do you smoke/mind if others do? Is it a severe hazard to your health?
Contradictory to my neatness, yes I do smoke, no I don’t mind if others do, and well, yes in the long run, but sometimes, you just don’t care about yourself anymore.
13. What are your favorite kinds of food? Can you cook?
I do enjoy curry, and chicken cordon bleu. Naturally I can cook, I often would when my mother came home late. You learn on the fly, as it were.
14. Which religion do you associate yourself with and do you want us to consider that while find a roommate?
I would prefer not to associate myself with any religion, thank – you. I am a firm agnostic, (ooc: mostly because he can’t be bothered to go to church). I have no qualms with any religion.
15. Do you have any pets or thinking of getting one?
No, I wouldn’t mind having a bird or a cat or a fish or such, but I never have the patience nor the attention span. I’d often lock myself in my room and write for days on end, forgetting everyone and anyone. I would have done that in my youth, had my mother not needed me.
16.Anything else we need to know?
Not unless you have any specific questions in mind.
PARA SAMPLE AND ETC:
Orion rubbed his eyes, bleary from staring at the computer screen for 5 hours straight. He was trying to work out the language in this particular passage for his next book, but the words weren’t fitting like he knew they should.
Leaning back in his desk chair, he sighed loudly, looking up at the ceiling as words seemed to dance in front of his vision. He rubbed his eyes again, blinking a few times to correct them.  All his life, he’d been writing. His mother had joked that he had been born with ink instead of blood in his veins. She’d call him her little inkblot.  Orion smiled fondly at the nostalgia rising up to the front of his head. He decided to stand up from his desk, and stretch, that normally helped his writers block.
Oh writers block, what a vile and unsavory thing that had just had to of been the bane of creators everywhere. With a groan, Orion realized it’d been a very long time that he had been cooped up in his room. Oh the glory and horror of so much free time at his fingertips! He was free to spend as long as he wanted writing, but he also could swear he was slowly causing albinism to become an official disease.  Opening the heavy oaken door, he stepped out into the hallway, down the steps and outside. Walking was normally a great way for him to breathe and get a new view on his writings. It was also something his teachers had strongly encouraged when he would get angry during classes when nothing seemed to be working. He would often get very violent with his words and yell at people then, but so far, he’d learned to count to 10 and at least give people a warning before he did that.
Orion observed the trees with their leafy green arms stretched up in the air, as if attempting to grab a swath of the sky and bring it down to the earth. He tapped his own hands to his lips, new words and phrases forming as though they were swirling currents in his head. Pulling out his journal and pen, he found a park bench to sit down at, and began writing away in the cool autumn breeze.

What Their Childhood Was Like:
Having been born to a single mother who didn’t exactly have the best skills when it came to parenting, the odds were stacked against Aria since the moment of conception. For starters, her mother had a bit of an addiction. Heroin was her drug of choice and despite winding up pregnant with a current boyfriend’s baby, continued using well throughout the pregnancy. Not only was she putting her own life at risk, but that of her unborn child. It was no surprise that Aria was born prematurely with a condition known as Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome or in shorter terms, being born somewhat addicted to drugs you were exposed to while in the womb. Doctors caught on, CPS was called, and her grandparents were temporarily given custody and for awhile things looked better. Her grandparents were older, yes, but had the means to support their granddaughter and actively helped raise her. It wasn’t until she was three that her mother turned up in her life again, demanding custody after having served her time for endangerment of a child. After all, the custody wasn’t exactly permanent, no documents were filed, no one went to court. So, legally, the woman had every right to take her daughter back. And she did.
For the next five years, Aria struggled. Her mother was single, could barely hold a job, and was content with moving them from house to house, whenever things got difficult. And she had yet to kick her habit. She cut off all contact with her parents, not wanting their help or input in the least, taking on being a parent on her own. Aria’s only outlet was school, but unlike children around her, reading and writing didn’t happen so quickly. It was difficult to remember, to write, to actively learn when there was really no need for her to do so at home, no enforcement of any rules, no active learning. Interestingly enough, while the girl may not have properly communicated correctly by speaking or writing, she seemed to take a knack to drawing. Art soon enough became her outlet, whether that was coloring in a  coloring book or sitting in her room venting her frustrations with the few crayons she had. Her problem solving skills weren’t up to par and after testing conducted by the school, it was revealed that she was developmentally delayed. And that was the last straw. Her grandparents got wind of her location and put in documents for emergency custody, as well as to start the process of gaining full custody of their granddaughter. By the time Aria turned nine, she was living with her grandparents once more, attending school on a regular basis, having several meals a day, and seeing a developmental specialist to help get her back on track.
What They Do Currently:
Today, as a twenty year old woman, Aria has met and exceeded expectations. While the general outlook on her life may have seemed bleak, the girl couldn’t be doing any better. After seeing the specialist for a few years, attending special classes, along with the love and support of her grandparents, Aria began to excel. Not only in her speech and academics, but in her art as well. While at one point Aria didn’t quite have the motor skills to really create a wonderful piece of art, by the age of ten you couldn’t get her to stop. Art became her outlet for everything in her life, a constant, a comfort, and it was what she wanted to do with her life. Only, her grandparents couldn’t afford a to pay tuition for a fancy art school and as much as she tried, the scholarships she had obtained weren’t enough to pay for tuition along with room and board. So, Aria settled for a college instate that was within her price range not wanting to be drowned by student loans. It was the end of her freshman year when she got wind of the Lancaster Program and knew it was the best option she could have ever come across.
Their Passion and How They Practice It:
Aria’s passion is her art, in all forms it may take. The woman takes pride in not limiting herself to a certain medium or style of art and simply does whatever calls to her at the moment. In short, she considers herself to be a multifaceted artist. From charcoal drawings to intricate oil paintings, abstract sculptures, to mundane crafts, Aria does it all. And she loves it. Aria has a new project going on almost daily ranging in it’s complexity from a simple drawing to a complex spray painting on a huge canvas.

IC Questions:
1.Why are you interested in becoming a student at Lancaster Academy?
I think the better question would be why aren’t I interested? It’s offering everything to you in one place, the independence, the fact that it’s free and tailored specifically to you, the fact that there’s no where else I could even imagine to get this kind of experience and guidance. It’s like telling you your dreams aren’t stupid and you can do them, setting you up for success and you’re an idiot to not take advantage of that. I want to succeed.
2.Why are you passionate about your talent? Was it something that happened in your life? Was it someone inspiring you do get into it?
Art is my thing because it always has been. I can always remember drawing or doodling or something. It’s always been as natural to me as breathing. My life was difficult, I’m not going into detail, but it was an outlet and still is to this day really. Only, there’s more to it than that. I love creating and molding and bringing an idea I have into my head into real life.
3.Who is your industry has inspired you the most?
As of now, a woman by the name of Amanda Ross-Ho. She’s more of a modern artist and what I like most about her is that she doesn’t limit herself to one particular medium. She has paintings and sculptures and photography and seems to dabble in a bit of everything and she’s successful. I see her as, I don’t know, a sort of wave for what’s to come in modern art, not knocking traditional art really, but times are different, people are different, and I want to participate in that change.
4.If you could choose which one would you say is most important to you: Love, Power, Wealth or Friendship and why?
That’s a hard choice honestly. I honestly want to say none of them are more important than the other, all riding equally at the same point. There’s people perfectly happy with more than one than the other. There’s people that don’t have any of them and are miserable. To me, all for of those things come and go as life progresses. There isn’t one that’s almighty or forever important. Not to me anyway. I hope that still answers your question.
5.What is your most obvious weakness and strength?
My most obvious strength is my creativity. I like to think I don’t exactly think like the common woman, I have a different perspective and ideal on life that may not be everyone’s cup of tea. As for my weakness, I’m a perfectionist. I like to put out my best work each and every time and if I don’t deem it as such, things can get nasty. It’s mostly an internal thing, I can be hard on myself, but they say you’re your worst critic for a reason right?
6.What are your long-term goals career wise? Personal wise?
Career goals are to open my own gallery exclusively showing my work. I want to be featured in galleries all over the world. I want to have a major, well known piece in every medium I possibly can. That last one may be a stretch, but I’m gunning for it regardless. Personal wise, I want to become independent on my own, not my grandparents or the program’s funding. Get my own place, make a living as an artist, not end up a knocked up drug addict like my mother.
7.What did you do this summer?
I went back home. There’s a summer camp there, I work as a camp counselor in the arts department. I spent most of my time there working and saving up money, I may not be a favorite of the kids, but they leave with the knowledge they can do something they weren’t able to do before when it comes to creativity and art.
 8.Tell me about your family?
I live with my grandparents, although I’m legally an adult they had custody of me for the majority of my life, I have no contact with my mother nor my father. I’ve been told I may have a few half siblings, but I don’t know them nor do I want to.
9.Recommend a good book for me.
I’m an artist. Reading isn’t exactly my thing. The last book I read was for a Shakespearean Literature Class and I wouldn’t want to bore you.
10.Tell me about a challenge that you’ve overcame.
Being born a “crack baby” in a sense. Heroin baby is more accurate now that I think about it, but I’m sure you get my point, having a terrible mother, not knowing my father. My whole life has been a challenge.
Roommate Questions:
11. Where are you at on the scale of neatness?
Borderline OCD honestly. I like things to be where I like them to be. I deal with a lot of different paints, clays, pencils, charcoals, I like them all properly organized so I can find them when I need them and I feel the same about the majority of my personal belongings.
12.Do you smoke/mind if others do? Is it a severe hazard to your health?
I don’t smoke and I don’t understand what’s the appeal behind slowly killing your lungs honestly, so yes, I do mind if others do. They can destroy their lungs if they want to, I’d rather keep mine in tact.
13.What is your favorite kinds of food? Can you cook?
Anything honestly, I’m not entirely picky when it comes to food believe it or not, I’m satisfied as long as it tastes good. I’m good with my hands, but that doesn’t expand into the cooking realm I’m afraid. I don’t cook.
 14. Which religion do you associate yourself with and do you want us to consider that while find a room mate?
I don’t associate with any religion. I don’t really believe in religion honestly. Your personal beliefs are your own. As long as they don’t try to shove their beliefs down my throat, I wont mind it.
 15. Do you have any pets or thinking of getting one?
No, pets aren’t my thing I’m not much of an animal lover.
16.Anything else we need to know?
Not anything I can think of at the moment, but if I do, I’ll be sure to get back to you on that.
PARA SAMPLE AND ETC:
Intricate line work, angles, harsh and thin lines purposefully placed across the canvas before her. It was almost mechanic in it’s look and feel. Very organized, very measured. It seemed like everything had it’s place, like every line was meant to be there, not some random thought or potential idea that ended up working out. Everything about the painting seemed deliberate and almost militaristic in it’s nature. That is, until you reached the bottom. The intricate line work exploded into splatters, angry slashes and markings, no order, merely colorful chaos below. Kneeling down towards the end of the easel, flicking her paintbrush rather vigorously, Aria continued to execute her latest piece of work, exploring the delicate balance of chaos and discord, how one little change, whether that be a seemingly insignificant life event or a twitch of the hand during a painting, could erupt into something you wouldn’t expect.
Aria continued to work, ignoring the fact that the paint was more than likely splattering across the old flannel shirt she wore along with the wetness on her face she felt every so often. She was in the zone. That moment when working on a piece where literally nothing else around her mattered. She was so focused, so intended with her work and how it was coming before her, it was the only thing she thought about, the sole thing that occupied her mind. And in a sense it was one of her favorite things about being an artist to begin with, being able to reach that point where nothing else mattered, where life around you can ame to an absolute stand still while you worked to create and bring life to an idea.
She didn’t worry about her grandparents finances, the fact that they spent the majority of their retirement on making sure she could live the best life she could. She didn’t worry about the absentee mother that willingly put her life at risk only to do it again after getting out of jail. She didn’t worry about the man who fathered her, whoever the hell he was anyway, who probably knew of her existence and didn’t do a damn thing to help. And most importantly she didn’t worry about the fact that, by all standards, she was supposed to fail at life. Supposed to follow in her mother’s footsteps.
Before Aria realized it, she was practically chucking paint at the canvas before her, her heart picking up it’s beat, olive toned skin taking on a thin layer of sweat from the very effort she was putting into making the splatters and markings across the painting. Blinking, she forced herself to finally stop, taking a breath as she stepped back and lightly cleared her throat, returning her paintbrush onto the paint covered table behind her, arms crossing over her chest as she took the moment to study the painting before her.
The balance between order and discord. Maybe that was what it was about. Or maybe it was opposite in a sense, almost a backwards way of events. Maybe it was her breaking out of that mold she was seemingly born into. That seemingly insignificant moment in her life actually being her grandparents taking custody, in a sense breaking her out of the very life she was supposed to live. Then again, maybe it was all just paint on some paper. After all, art is always up for interpretation.

That's completely fine, it's the holidays technically today anyway so we'd always be a bit more lenient.
