CHAPTER 10: With Eyes Unclouded
Plot: Riding in on thunder and lightning, two princes are born. But a crown cannot be shared. It can only be worn by one and one alone. The hands of man have separated the brothers, allowing one to live in wealth and comfort inside the palace while the other grows up among commoners. But Fate cannot be destroyed by the hands of man. A shared destiny reunites the brothers; one to become a king who descends into madness and the other will rise as a dragon whose journey has only just begun in order to claim a crown he does not desire to have.

AN: DUN DUN DUUUUUUUN...
P.S. Please bear in mind that while the historical accuracy will be mostly correct, I am setting this in a time period in Joseon history where there was no such thing as a king who had a twin brother. Obviously that’s where the fiction/creative freedom is going to come in. Everything else will be period accurate, trust and believe.

“Vision is not what your eyes see, but an image that your brain comprehends.” - Touko Aozaki
Yoon left the Crown Princess’s palace in the middle of the night. He still had to get dressed for the long journey and he wanted to make sure that nothing would impede him from being able to leave at the desired hour. But he wasn’t heartless. The Crown Prince made sure to leave a note for her, as well as a small gift. Something to help her feel less lonely during the coming days while he was away in Ming.
After he finished dressing in his travel gear, Yoon rendezvoused with Bidam and Namgil. The small caravan of horses, supplies, and bodyguards were ready to depart. The moonlight shined down on them from above, negating the need for lanterns. If the road got foggy, they would light them. But only then.
Namgil stifled a small yawn, causing Yoon to grin. Bidam elbowed the eunuch and he snorted, righting his position as the Crown Prince approached. They both bowed, awaiting his next instructions. Yoon gestured to the horses and the three men leaped onto their steeds. The horses whined and snorted in protest, but patiently waited for their riders to command them.
Craning his neck in different directions, Yoon made sure that everything was in place. He held his hand up and pointed forward. “Let’s head out.”
Bidam held his sword out by the scabbard. “Forward march!”
The heavy groan of wooden wheels and the scuffling of feet echoed over the sound of the horses clip-clopping along the dirt road. Yoon admired how clear the sky was. If Kalina’s words were true, then there would be no problems along the way. It would be a long trip, traversing rolling hills and open valleys, but nothing untoward would cross their paths. Others were on edge, as they were trained to be, but Yoon was completely relaxed.
He believed in his sorceress.
Both Namgil and Bidam sidled up on either side of him, matching his steady pace. The eunuch pressed the back of his wrist against his mouth, smothering down another yawn. “Will it be a long trip, Seja Cheo-ha?”
Yoon raised his hand up, sliding his fingers and thumb over the brim of his jeollip, making sure the round hat was secured tightly to his head. The black satin ribbons were tied under his chin, the large silver and black beads dangling across his shoulders. “You should prepare yourself, Namgil-ah.” He touched the silver tassel and flicked the peacock feather in amusement.
He heard his attendant groan. “I am already tired just thinking about it.”
Bidam laughed loudly, clapping the eunuch on the shoulder hard enough for him to lean sideways on the saddle. “Stop acting like such a weakling!” He gripped the reins a little tighter. “It’ll be fun! We haven’t been away from the palace in a while.”
“No. Not since the last Royal Hunt.” Yoon felt his chest swell with pride. “It will definitely be interesting to see what will be waiting for us when we arrive.”
Namgil folded his arms across his chest, the reins dangling from his hands. “It’s going to take us nearly a week to get there.” He covered his face with one hand. “We will have to sleep outside!”
Yoon laughed as they continued their steady pace. Palace life was nice and often left most of the staff a bit spoiled. Even the lowliest servants were paid a better stipend than most commoners on the streets. He could see why Namgil was feeling a bit frazzled, but that didn’t mean it was something that couldn’t be overcome.
“I am curious about one thing, Your Highness.”
He flashed Bidam a curious glance. “What is it?”
His bodyguard scratched at his temple. “Is there a reason why you picked that particular troupe to be able to perform in the palace again?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, it’s just that…” Bidam rolled his shoulders a bit. “...isn’t that a common story they performed? I've even heard of it. What was so special about their reenactment?”
Yoon’s brows furrowed and he looked away, staring at the mane of hair draped over his horse’s neck. Honestly, he hadn’t given it much thought. It was such a passing thing and it wasn’t like he wanted the banquet in the first place. But Yoon truly did admire the time and effort spent to hone one’s craft. Even street performers were considered to be on the same tier as gisaengs. In the eyes of others, they were viewed even higher since gisaeng were, in a sense, slaves. Bidam wasn’t off with his assumptions. It truly was just like any other performance and it was a common tale.
But there was something…
“Truthfully?” He looked back at Bidam, a small smile forming on his lips. “I think it was the demon that drew me in.”
“What?” Namgil leaned forward on his horse so he could peek at the Crown Prince. “But why?”
Yoon shrugged. “There was just something about his performance that captivated me.”
“Captivated? You?” Bidam grinned. “That’s high praise indeed. Rarely anything impresses you.”
He chuckled. “I think he’s talented. The entire troupe is, in fact.” Yoon smiled at both of his friends. “I just wanted to give them the opportunity to be able to succeed in this wretched and unfair world we live in. That’s all.”
It wasn’t a lie. But it wasn’t the entire truth either. The truth was that there was something about that performer that made his heart hurt. It was like he’d been struck by a bolt of lightning out of the blue. Yet even that seemed like a pathetic comparison, now that he thought about it.
Yoongi knew he needed to get back home. But he also couldn’t bear the thought of leaving Jimin behind. Not until he knew his friend was fully up and about, functional and productive in the world again. Kali politely allowed them all to stay inside her estate. She also provided the excuse Yoongi would need in case he returned to find his father had beaten him home. She was far too generous, even with his outburst the night prior.
There was so much swimming in his head. But instead of cornering Taehyung and demanding for answers, he remained silent and kept vigil over Jimin. Kali reassured him that he would just need to rest. The poison perspired from his system overnight. The worst of it was over. But she did make a point in stating that had they been even one hour late, Jimin’s spirit would already be on its way to the Underworld.
The potency of the poison was frightening. Thankfully, Kali’s seer abilities allowed her to prepare for their arrival. He shuddered to think of the darker aspect of her power and was thankful that she was a friend and not a foe.
Sighing, he stood from the chair he sat in at Jimin’s bedside and went to the table to retrieve a wet towel from the brass basin. Wringing out the cloth, he returned and began dabbing the sweat away from his friend’s brow and forehead. His complexion was, for the most part, back to normal. But he still needed to eat and move around to fully purge the poison from his system.
Yoongi’s breath caught in his throat when he saw Jimin’s brows furrow slightly. Little wrinkles formed on his nose until his eyelids fluttered, opening fully and then staring listlessly at the ceiling. Yoongi leaned forward, waving a hand over his friend’s face. Jimin didn’t blink.
“Have you regained consciousness?” Yoongi’s voice sounded so foreign in his ears at that moment.
Jimin blinked. Then he slowly turned his head so he could look up at Yoongi. For a second, he feared the worst. Was his friend blind? Or had he gone deaf? He’d heard of certain poisons having that kind of effect.
Jimin nodded, then attempted to sit up. When Yoongi reached out to help him, he saw his friend shrink back a measure. This confused him greatly, causing him to fall back into his chair as the wet rag in his hand dropped to the floor.
“Hey, Jimin-ah,” he managed to croak, “what’s the matter with you?” Yoongi pressed a hand to his chest as he leaned forward. “It’s me. Min Yoongi.”
For a long moment, all Jimin did was stare wide-eyed at him. Had the poison actually affected his mind instead? It felt like a lump of ice was dropped into the pit of his stomach, causing Yoongi’s throat to close up. He tried to swallow but found it was difficult to do so. The moisture in his mouth seemed to disappear.
Then, suddenly, Jimin scrambled onto his knees. Half of the blanket was bunched up around him, but this didn’t seem to bother him. Yoongi didn’t know what to make of this. It wasn’t until he saw Jimin lower his head to his hands, prostrating himself, that Yoongi shot up from his chair so fast that it clattered to the floor.
“W-What...what…” He was struggling to get the words out, too shocked by Jimin’s actions. “What do you think you’re doing right now, Jimin-ah?!”
“Daegun Mama!”
Yoongi felt his heart jump straight into his throat. For a moment, he forgot how to formulate coherent sentences. His back leg shifted slightly, his heel bumping into the discarded chair. Before he could ask anything further, footsteps thundered through the hallway and the sliding door was flung open. An uncomfortable feeling slithered up his back. It only intensified when he saw his friends staring wide-eyed at him for the briefest of seconds before they, too, fell to their knees on the floor.
This wasn’t happening. Whatever this was, it wasn’t happening!
“Your Excellency!” Their voices were all in sync, echoing around him.
Yoongi covered his ears and shook his head back and forth. “What nonsense are you all babbling about?” His eyes shut tight as he continued to shake his head roughly. “Stop calling me that! What gives you...what reason do you all have?!”
He felt something tug at the hem of his tunic, causing him to look directly at Jimin. There was something glinting in his friend’s eyes, but he wasn’t sure what it could be. Was it awe? Was it fear? Or was it something else altogether? Yoongi had no way of knowing. But instead of feeling relief and joy over knowing his friend was, in fact, alive and well, all he could feel was a heavy sense of dread weighing on his chest. It made it difficult for him to breathe, let alone think straight.
Helplessness clawed at Yoongi’s throat and he quickly grasped Jimin’s hands between his palms. His friend swiftly lowered his head and this caused him to roar out in frustration. He saw Jimin’s shoulders jump slightly; more from his sudden outburst than anything else. It wasn’t like Yoongi to lose his temper like this. But he was being left in the dark and he despised it. Kali referring to him as “Young Master” was one thing. This was on a completely different level.
Because he was just addressed by a title claimed by royalty.
Specifically that of a prince who claimed legitimacy.
“Daegun Mama…” he heard the others murmur again and Yoongi whirled around angrily. “...please, forgive us, Your Excellency!”
“Stop calling me that!” Yoongi’s voice shook both the room and himself. “Stop lying! Enough of your lies! STOP IT!”
“It’s true, Your Excellency!” This time it was Taehyung who spoke, lifting his face to peer up at him. “We dare not speak lies before you. Not about this! Not this!”
His entire body was trembling as he fought back the urge to explode and tear everything in the room apart. “LIAR! It’s not true!”
“Daegun Mama, please listen!” Yoongi could hear the desperation in Jimin’s voice as he clung to his tunic once again. “We overheard your father speaking to the King!” Turning, he felt his eyes bulging out of his head as he stared pointedly at his friend. Tears leaked from Jimin’s eyes as he spoke. “Your father, Min Dojin-ssi...he was the King’s former bodyguard! He was the Commander of the Royal Bodyguards!”
Heat radiated from Yoongi’s ears as if they were on fire. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. All those trips to the Crown City were so he could see the King of Joseon? That explained how his father was so skilled at martial arts. It also made sense as to why he was more relenting toward teaching Yoongi the necessary skills he needed to fight.
But that didn’t answer why his friends were referring to him as a Grand Prince.
“S-So what?” muttered Yoongi as he glared down at Jimin. “So what?! That doesn’t tell me anything! That doesn’t explain why you all are kneeling before me! I’m nobody! I’m nothing, do you hear me?!”
“Min Dojin isn’t your father by blood. Your Majesty, the King, is. That’s why the Crown Prince shares your face.” Taehyung sounded absolutely defeated. Yoongi could hear it in his voice; like he was unable to fathom or process the next thing that was going to come tumbling from his mouth. “He is...your twin brother.”
What stability remained in Yoongi’s legs gave way, causing him to collapse to the floor completely. Tears streamed from his eyes as he stared up at the ceiling. Whatever words were spoken after that were lost to his ears. He couldn’t hear anything. Nothing could overcome the painful booming of his own heart as it thundered against his chest and ribs. This couldn’t be happening. This couldn’t be real!
But a certain proverb from one of the many Confucian analects Kali lent to him sat at the forefront of his thoughts.
“Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.”
He’d been ignorant for all of his life. Everyone kept him in the dark. His father-no, his adopted father kept him blind. Kali knew the truth but abstained from speaking. All the questions he had in his life careened through his mind like a stampede and only by seeking the truth was he able to come to his own conclusion. It was the only way he was able to climb out of the pit of self-ignorance. Yoongi only wanted to be a filial son and perform his duties as a proper son should. He’d never known the truth.
Part of him never wanted to know.
But now it was no longer an option.
Slowly, he turned his head and saw Kali standing in the doorway. When their eyes met, she lowered her head in a bow that was on a different level of respect he’d ever seen given from her. Was this the same gesture she gave to anyone who was of nobility? Or royalty?
Yoongi’s shoulders shook slightly as he wiped at his eyes with his sleeve. What am I supposed to do now?
As if she’d read his mind, Kali flashed him a gentle smile. But she remained silent. It would be up to him. It was always his choice.
Kali was right. It wouldn’t matter what choice he made after this. The end result would be the same.
He just needed to make one.

Love? That has no meaning to me when you were born to kill. Everything I touch, withers away and dies. You will be no exception.
You guys haven’t killed me yet.
That’s because you still have a use and once that done? You will be thrown away like so many before you and…..others I know.

Chapter 9- Majesty
All the stars and galaxies address me as your majesty So better say your majesty, I might react erratically Throw you in a fire, purify you I'm the sire, my empire's on the rise
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again, Lucky woke up in an unfamiliar bed but this one was different than the one she had previously woken up in. It was less fancy but still drastically luxurious than whatever she had known. The bed was still that impossibly soft material that she almost didn’t want to get out of with a few huge pillows. Her green eyes opened, trying to focus without her glasses but she could distinctly tell the color of gold that was looking at her.
She paused for a moment, letting some of the memories come back to her before drawing in breath and scrambling up. A huge hand slapped itself on her mouth before the scream erupted while the other hand clasped the back of her head to keep her in place. Hands scrabbled at the confines but they were ignored as loud shushes came from the man holding her.
“Hey hey! It’s me, Hyuk… remember? I was the one that saved you from those assholes? Look, if I let you go, will you promise not to scream? Ken and Leo are still sleeping while our master is in a bad mood. Hongbin and Ravi were too shy to let you sleep in their beds so I gave you my bed for the night.. or day.”
Lucky had to think for a moment, the name sounding familiar to her. She finally put a face to the name as she remembered the baby faced being that took care of the two guys that killed the man. She nodded slowly and inch by inch, his hand left her mouth as if he was scared she would scream regardless. Grinning, he quickly plucked up her glasses and gave them to her before leaning in to take a whiff of her hair.
Alarmed, she reared back away from him. Hyuk raised his hands up defensively and to let her know that he meant no harm, just barely containing himself with her there on the bed.
“Sorry. I couldn’t help myself. I’m still learning a lot of things when it comes to the whole vampire thing and it doesn’t help that you smell… really good. I don’t know why. Most humans have a stale smell to me. You smell like tangy flowers. It kinda sets my teeth on edge but in a delicious way.”
“I’m sorry.. Did you say vampire?”
The analogy about her smell aside, Lucky’s only thought was the fact that he had mentioned vampires which reminded her of when she was in the police station. So it wasn’t a dream, she realized with cold dread down the entirety of her spine. Hyuk nodded as if he knew what she was thinking, smiling before leaning in closer. She watched as the canines slid out like he was doing nothing but breathing. Before she knew it, she had edged to the side of the bed and when chomped playfully is when she fell right off the thing. Once again, she landed on the floor with a mighty thump and that prompted Hyuk to speed right on over to her. He picked her up, literally right up off the floor like she had weight nothing at all.
Squirming in his grasp, Lucky tried to get him to put her down since all she needed was a hand to get up. That and she didn’t want to be too close to the fangs that were still extended. A rush and the quick opening of a door could be heard, revealing the droopy eyed vampire she met last night.
“Oh hey! I--”
“What are you doing Hyuk?! He literally just told us not to feed from her, no matter how good she smells! What’s wrong with you? I can practically hear her screaming!”
Thus started the tug of war between Hyuk and the one whom yelled at Hyuk to stop. He had one of Lucky’s legs in his grasp while Hyuk had her upper body, the both of them bickering back and forth about what was going on. The noise soon grew and attracted the interest of another one. She realized that it was the one she accidentally hit, with the owl eyes. He came around, an annoyed look on his face as his owl-like eyes took in what was going on.
“You know that Ken and Leo are up now because of you guys..” He leaned against the door frame, lazily eyeballing the area. The vampires both stopped what they were doing, frozen to the spot. Eventually she kicked him in the knee, which prompted him to let her go. The tug of war episode was a welcome distraction despite what all that had transpired but the feeling of danger still didn’t subside, no matter how many times they insisted that she was safe with them.
And it didn’t help that she was constantly being chomped at or placed into dangerous situations when with them.
After going downstairs to see the rest of them, Lucky could still remember how close they got as she looked at them. She frowned as she got closer to the main floor, however she still stood way off to the side as a precaution against the rest of them. After all, she still didn’t know why she was there and what was going on.
She walked towards the living area, where there was a huge chair she didn't notice before. Lucky was met at the bottom of the stairs by two vampires that were familiar. They introduced themselves formally as Ravi and Ken. Lucky eyeballed Ken because she still remembered when he went berserk. He gave a wide smile at her, knowing what she was thinking. Ravi leaned over and poked him, shaking his head at the other. Ravi gave her a kind look, as if he was asking for her to forgive them. Lucky looked around the room, thankful that during all that mess–her glasses weren’t broken.
She noticed two more vampires, one being her savior from the police and the other that she hit. Ravi bent down to her ear, making her jump and introduced them as Hongbin and Leo.
“I believe we can all speak normally with that human around.” Hongbin sneered at them. “I hope the Prince gets rid of her, she’s done enough–”
He didn’t get to finish when Hyuk suddenly appeared in Hongbin’s face, seething. Lucky could see that he was angry as those words and honestly– she was too. She didn’t even want to be in this house with them, knowing she did nothing wrong. Before they could start fighting, a hum could be felt like someone had struck a chord on a guitar. It made the rest of them stand up straight and the hairs on her arms stand up. Leo and Ravi moved to stand next to the chair while the other two, Hongbin and Ken were standing behind her. As Hyuk started to move, his body seemed to go rigid and march directly in front of the chair, kneeling.
Lucky was about to go to him when another vampire came in. All of them saluted him as he walked in, graceful and menacing. He had almost golden skin, a bit darker than Ravi and his clothes complimented his skin. The black and red robes he had on almost made him look like he was gliding. Once he sat down, he looked at her–and smirked.
Hyuk’s face suddenly fell to the ground, causing him to give a start of surprise. That kind of extreme bow was pushing his face into the floor. He grunted as he tried to resist it but he could not move.
“I–I’m sorry but please don’t kill her! She’s my friend!” Hyuk begged from the floor, unable to get up no matter how hard he tried. “I’ll take full responsibility! Please!”
Lucky could hear Hongbin scoff at his words and before she realized it, she had marched over to Hyuk and tried to pull him back up. She tried with all her might but she couldn’t even get him to budge. A fire burned in her eyes as she glared at them all for not helping, Ravi looking away guiltily but the rest were stone still.
“And what would they do when they know he’s being punished? After all–” The leader stood up from his throne, the robes settling into place as he started to approach her, “Sanghyuk let a human into our world, almost blew the masquerade and he gave her blood to heal.”
He was directly in front of her face, bending down a bit because of her height. His golden eyes were in slits as he stared at her. Lucky was a bit taken aback by him, the soft voice coming from him but she returned the stare. He stood there for a few minutes, making her eyes water from the staring contest but he stood up and started to walk in a circle around her. His fingers plucked at the shirt she had on, the one Lucky had borrowed from Hyuk right before coming down.
“Lucky for you, there are circumstances that have my attention and you have landed yourself in the thick of it. Nevertheless, Sanghyuk must be punished because these deeds have been made to light.”
“Hyung.. Most of them were not caused by him-” Ravi attempted to say but suddenly he dropped to one knee with the force that would have broken his knees.
“Be glad that I’m not doing more..Wonsik. Not even killing this interesting human.” His hand brushed against her check, moving some of her hair but she didn’t move. He walked to the chair again and sat, his long fingers steeping in thought. A beep broke though the silence and Hongbin grabbed his phone, scrolling through something, Lucky noticed that all of them were suddenly focused on the vampire and when he looked up, he nodded. The leader started to chuckle before turning his attention back to Lucky.
“Well, then. It seems you really are fated to help us.” He remarked, turning his head to look at Ravi. He kept his gaze down and was still kneeling on the floor. The leader looked back and smiled, one that Lucky didn’t trust at all. “I have a proposition for you. You can take it or we will remove your memories properly. The alternative to that is death.”
“How do I know that you’re not going to go back on this? I don’t know you and as far as I knew, you never existed before today.” Lucky scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest. He smiled even wider before appearing in front of her face again. He grabbed her by the jaw and lifted her up, her legs dangling. She ended up biting her tongue as that happened, the blood dribbling out of her mouth.
“I don’t have the patience to toy with you as some would. It offends me that you would cast me in the same mold as those other heathens that kidnapped you.” Dropping her, he leaned down to wipe that blood away –still smiling. “Oh yes, I know of everything that has happened to you these last few days. That is why I am offering you this, for protection.”
“You mean for another blood bag?”
“Well I won’t deny that you will have some use to me but that will be explained in the paperwork. As for now, you’re given leave of here. Try not to waste this chance.”
A pair of arms wrapped themselves gently around her and Lucky could feel herself becoming sleepy. She could hear talking but the muffled sound was growing dim along with her vision. As she succumbed to the darkness and was carried out by Ravi with Ken following, Hyuk popped up and thanked the leader, scurrying out.
Leo came up to him as well as Hongbin with concern in their eyes. He waved them off and soon was left alone in the room. He reached up and licked the blood off his hand, almost shivering as he did so. He had to use all his willpower not to give chase but instead he sat down, looking at his hand in wonder.
“Hakyeon, what have you gotten into this time?”

Chapter 8- Devils
Who told you about a man without fear Who told you about a god who does not care Who told you about a pain that does not hurt Who told you about a love that turns to dirt
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The mansion seemed to be even bigger at the beginning stages of the night, the darkness of the world that seemed to expand every nook and cranny. The sun was gone from the sky, its red remains still painting in the sky as the night was being ushered in quickly. They were there before she even knew it as her feet touched the steps leading up to the house. The house seemed to call to her again, whispering it's deja vu once again. Leo walked in front of Lucky, his long legs making quick work of the distance between them. She almost had to run to catch up as the gates were closed behind them, the first activity all day it would seem.
He made no attempt to keep her right beside him, as he didn’t need to. She only needed to follow him and stay quiet. Lucky’s danger sense was growing by the minute, unsure on what to do in this particular situation. She was at the mercy of these beings now, although willingly but still nonetheless. She didn’t even think that there were such beings in her small world as they had hid themselves perfectly into the world of Humans. Well, almost perfectly as the latest situations would show.
A creak of the giant doors and soon they were inside the mansion, warm lights greeting them as it seemed to come alive since last she saw it. Candles on the walls, unlit but ready to use. Mirrors that could be seen every so often along with the pictures, tapestries and other various decorations gave the mansion a homey feel. This was a place that a prince would live, royalty would stay and hold balls in honor of others that came to them in reverence. It looked so much better at night than the daytime with the details almost coming to life while the sun was down. Voices could be heard, laughing loudly and some actually swearing along with it. Leo gave a sigh and continued on towards the voices, beckoning her along with a slight tilt of his head. More than one voice was yelling something about how the other was cheating while another was laughing at the whole entire thing.
Upon entering the area, Lucky saw that there was more than one giant that she was looking at. There were three others there, two versus one and each one of them snapped their heads towards them the moment that Leo’s foot stepped onto the rug of the room. It was like each of them were owlets and their parent had arrived with their next meal, all of them suddenly stock still. She didn’t feel like she was going to be dinner until she saw the rest of them, eyes that gleamed a yellow-gold like a hawk. She paused for a moment, stopping dead in her tracks when they all looked at her and fell behind Leo as he made his way towards them.
That was it. She knew that even if she tried to make a run for it, they would catch up to her and she would be toast. Well done and crispy, not even having a chance to be burnt. She was in the den of snakes and there really was no going back. Lucky stayed where she was at, eyeballing the rest of them regardless. Leo walked right past them, pausing a split second to eyeball them himself before seating himself in a nearby chair like a grandpa who had been walking too much.
Lucky looked from him to the others that had been causing a ruckus, the number going from three to two. She blinked, swearing up and down that there was another one but she might have miscounted. But, as she kept her eyes on the two in front of her, the more that she felt like she’d seen one of them before. The taller one, with the angel face suddenly grinned at her while the other raised his eyebrows as he looked between the both of them. He had more of a puppy face, longer it seemed than the others and droopy eyes.
The feeling came back again, this time stronger, of calmness and security but she knew better. So naturally she fought the feeling that was now pressing down upon her, it coming from the droopy eyed one who was now turned to her fully and staring her down. Leo, from his seat, suddenly sat up and watched the exchange. The other beside him soon joined in, waves of intimacy and seduction rolling. The pair was meant to lull and awe but Lucky knew better.
“STOP.”
The word suddenly came from her mouth like she’d been waiting to say it for a long time. With that outburst, the feelings stopped as if they’d been snipped by a pair of scissors. However, Lucky had been leaning forward and when it had all stopped–she had fallen forward to the ground. She hit the floor with a thump, surprising the vampires in the room. She couldn’t quite tell who it was that started to snicker but only that it got on her nerves. Getting up to her knees, she rubbed her chin where she hit it on the ground and gave them the evil eye.
Suddenly the hairs on the back of her neck stood up with the surprise presence of someone else there. Lucky froze, thinking that she was truly finished but it was the third vampire that she thought she had seen. He had melded out of the shadows to take a simple inhale of her scent and to scare the daylights out of her. That was his plan since their elder had brought in a girl from the outside with hardly any explanation. However, what happened next was something even more surprising.
“Are you here for dinner?”
Lucky let out a scream, something akin to a squeak and threw her hand back. She ended up hitting the vampire in the face, more importantly the nose. He threw his head back, hands covering his face and yelled because which human in their right mind would rear back to hit a vampire? The two in front cracked up, almost doubled over with laughter at the scene while the other was on the floor as if he had been branded with a hot poker. She took that as her chance and took off, as stupid as it was but she had to try.
The result of her actions came crashing down on her as she ran because she had absolutely no idea where she was going. There seemed to be endless hallways with doors that went on forever and the soft sound of breath right behind her. It seemed to be chuckling at her attempts to escape, digits poking at her back to egg her on and making her scream more. Lucky threw open a door and was met with the tan, puppy looking vampire. He raised a hand and opened his mouth to say something but the shock of seeing him there suddenly made her yell again and throw the door back closed. She had accidentally closed the door in his face, the faint sounds of moaning coming from behind there.
She took off again, at the sound of chomping teeth and where she had ran upstairs, now was running up another flight. Now on the third floor, she could clearly see the living room and where Leo was still sitting there with the one she hit first. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up again and she suddenly felt a hand disturb her hair, making her whip around with a gasp. It was the angel looking one towering over her with a pout on his plump lips.
“Why do you run from me? Don’t you recognize me?”
Blinking at his sad question, Lucky realized that she did indeed know him. He was the man she spoke with at the party, right before the disaster of her throwing her drink at her former boss. The mysterious, handsome and rich man that many tried to get the attention of but only came to talk to her. She thought that he had nice eyes until she saw them up close right then, the sharp glare of gold that she couldn’t look away from. It wasn’t until she felt the railing behind her that she snapped out of it but not fast enough.
The man reached out and grabbed her left wrist, bringing Lucky closer to him with a gleam of madness in his eyes. He traced one long finger down her cheek, her eyes wide with fear as he did so.
“That was an eventful night, I suppose. Pity that Hyukkie got to you before me…” He took another deep inhale, almost shivering as he did so. Lucky didn’t want to chance and move while he did so, fearing that if she did that he would attack her. A whine, almost scream, suddenly filled the silence as someone downstairs was throwing a tantrum as he looked up at the two.
“Aw! C’mon! I saved her, why are all of you hogging her?! You’re so mean!” The captor looked up from Lucky’s hair to see the devil as he called him. “Besides! He’s on his way back and if he finds out…”
“If who finds out, Sanghyuk?”
The whole room seemed to freeze at the soft voice, praying that if they stood still that it wasn’t really happening. The only sound that could be heard was Lucky’s loud and frantic heartbeat as well as her breathing. Almost at breakneck speed, she was spun around and grabbed around the throat as well as her waist. It wasn’t enough to cut off her breathing but it was pretty damn close. She struggled, trying to free herself but was locked into an iron grip.
“I saw her first. She is mine..”
Lucky couldn’t help but look helplessly down at the newcomer and the rest who had gathered down there, with rather guilty looks on their faces. The new man had golden skin, even darker than the other and rather delicate features as well as a graceful air about him. It was like he was the Prince of the House and the others were his younger brothers. He sighed and put his hands on his hips as he looked up at the both of them.
“Jaehwan, let the human go before I become angry.”
He was going to resist the sweet words, Lucky knew it deep down. It was by the way he started to lowly growl, the vibration she could feel through her chest. His grip got tighter and it left her to gasp for air, fingers that were going to bruise where they held onto her at. He started to chant mine over and over, his voice not quite matching the honey that it was before. Leo stood up and walked in front of the leader, crooking one long finger. With that, she felt her body move on its own accord…..
…. Right over the banister, crashing through it.
Lucky felt herself falling, just like in her dream. Slow and through breaking pieces that surrounded her but the one they called Hyuk leaped forward to catch her. Once again, she found herself in the arms of the baby faced one, still grinning but this time with relief. Coughing and inhaling air, her vision swam as she faintly heard a roar and a scuffle. The last thing she remembered before fainting was the blurry vision of the leader, oddly like a dream as he looked down at her with the golden eyes everyone else had. A touch that felt like ice but burned like fire, smoothing down some hair and examined her throat. That was all she remembered before darkness took her.
That and whining about not getting to play with the human.

Chapter 7- Hazy Shade of Winter
I look around Leaves are brown now And the sky is a hazy shade of winter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After letting Lucky get into something more comfortable and switch out to her glasses, the cops escorted her to one of their stations.
The building they took her to seemed a bit large for the cops, almost like a warehouse but it had everything that they would need for the station. What Lucky couldn’t understand, however, was the fact that all of the outside and inside windows as well as doors were so thoroughly banded together. It was as if they were made for protection or to keep something in.
The hustle and bustle of the place kept Lucky from being too interested in what they were doing as she didn’t want to bother the people working. But when they put her in an interrogation room for 5 hours, she realized that she really should have been paying attention. At first, they were innocent questions and stories about what she was doing prior to that night but then it turned into more rigorous questioning. It was as if they were trying to get some sort of confirmation out of her, identifying who everyone was but even she didn’t have that answer.
“Detective Morris, I already told you for the fuckteempth time--I don’t know them!”
Lucky huffed and leaned back in the cold metal chair that they gave her. The cop that was interrogating her smiled again and wrote some things down in his book. The man looked to be too perfect, from his hair to his teeth. She thought that he needed to be on the TV as a rep for some sort of beauty product or teeth whitener. It was unnerving and it made Lucky not want to talk to them at all.
“Do you have any ties with the Inlustrus Clan? Have they not marked you yet?”
“What in the actual hell are you talking about?” Lucky shot back, finally angry enough to have an outburst with the line of questioning. She crossed her arms and stared down the detective as he continued to smile at her. A voice over the intercom called to the detective, forcing him to give up his line of questioning and leave the room. At that point, Lucky didn’t even know what time it was because she had been there so long. Even her own stomach was rumbling with nothing in it but coffee earlier that they provided. That was how she knew it had been hours since she had been there.
After sitting there for a few minutes, the detective came back in and the expression on his face was everything but the perfect facade that he had on earlier. His face was more stern and ready to pop should anything else go wrong. Lucky shifted in her seat uncomfortably after seeing him and the moment that he slammed his hands on the table is when she went into a defensive mode.
“You need to tell me everything! I know you’re holding shit back and I don’t have time to play nice with you anymore. You’ve been into the Inlustrus Clan’s manor, we’ve been watching! I need information on them so start talking or I’ll arrest you with obstruction of an investigation!”
“How can I be obstructing anything when you’ve literally told me that I’m here for my own safety?! Isn’t that like a felony or something? Get me a fucking lawyer, you prick and don’t ever talk to me again.”
Lucky spat back at him, chin raised and defiant. She stared him down as the minutes ticked by and finally gave in as he looked away at his watch. She kept her mouth firmly shut as he raged some more, hoping that he would scare her. However, it was one thing if she didn’t have a friend on the police force who didn’t already toughen her up to those sorts of things. Though, she did think it strange that he kept checking the time--calling out to see the status of something. If she could hold out for a little bit longer, whatever time that they were holding her on could possibly expire.
That all changed when they dragged her to a cell and locked her up. Lucky screamed and kicked the entire way, forcing them to manhandle her. A busted lip, mark on her cheek and what felt like a crack in her right fore arm later--she was deposited into the cell as the rest of them ran around like the building was on fire. Cradling her arm, she tried to listen in on some of the words they were throwing around. She couldn’t see too well but from what she could hear, there was some sort of threat that was making its way to the building and they had to keep it from entering.
The minutes flew by and Lucky wondered why the majority of the sounds had started to disappear. She didn’t notice that the air was starting to get colder or that there were less people around for her to hear. Just that it was growing quiet and the pain in her arm was getting more noticeable now that she had calmed down from her fight mode.
Suddenly, there was a bunch of screaming and yelling. Lucky craned her neck to try and see what was going on but the moment that her hand touched the bars, she yelped and drew back from it as it was ice cold. Eyes wide, she could do nothing but watch as it sounded like a murder scene out there with people yelling and screaming as they were cut down by something out there. Then just as quickly as it left, the silence soon settled upon the precinct again. A low murmuring could very faintly be heard as whatever stepped in seemed to be talking with someone else.
Cold started to creep into her bones, almost like someone had left a window open. Lucky huddled her knees to her chest, as if that would help but all she saw was one slender hand. One long fingered hand reached out and grabbed the bars, as if testing their strength. Her green eyes followed the hand up and she stared at another beautiful man. His eyes were that same golden hue that she remembered but they were almost like a cat as he gazed at her. She could see a bit of frost forming on the bars where his hand was, still gripping the steel.
“You are Leonora, are you not?”
He didn’t seem bad, despite the warning inside of her head. Everything about this man just screamed death, a fallen angel that was ready to guide someone into the next life. Lucky winced at the sound of her given name, signaling to the other that she indeed was who she was. The man stepped back for a second, looking up as one hand still gripped the bars. He sighed, looking like he would rather be anywhere but there. Sighing again, he suddenly gripped the door with both hands and grunted. Frost accumulated on the door and it groaned, making him sigh in annoyance. One more jerk and the thing came clean off the hinges with him muttering about making the youngest do this job and not he.
After propping the door up against the bars, the cat-like man reached inside his coat pocket for some gloves and put them on. Lucky watched this action, even jumping when the door came clean off with wide eyes. So last night wasn’t a dream, she figured. The man finished his grooming and held out a hand to her, staring holes into her face as he waited. He was as still as a statue, which lead her to believe that he wasn’t human. Not by a long shot.
“If you are waiting on a greeting, I suggest saving it for the younger ones. I tire of standing and being here. Your presence is being summoned. I won’t wait all evening for you.”
Lucky edged off the bed, still eyeballing him. Would this really be better than the ones that threw her in there? She could already smell the copper tang of blood in the air and with the tilt of her head, see a stray hand or two as it lay lifeless on the ground. Covering her mouth, she shook her head because why did she want to accompany a murderer? The man sighed again before letting his hand down and stepping out of the way, showing her that he would not block her exit. Carefully and cautiously, she edged out of the room and still eyeballed him to make sure he would not move an inch. Which he didn’t, by the way. Only his eyes watched her, impassive and silent.
“Why am I being summoned? Who are you...no. What are you?”
He gave a snort and finally moved, crossing his arms over his chest. Lucky didn’t have to look at him long to realize that there had been faint traces of blood around his mouth. She looked him full in the face before looking around him to see that the men were indeed dead and some of them had their throats ripped open. Her heartbeat quickened as she realized that he could be one thing, one that came out in the dead of night seeking blood.
A vampire.
Fear crept into soul as she took a step back from him, realizing that she was about two seconds away from getting eaten. Although, there were worse ways to go than to a handsome man if anything. However, she wasn’t about to try her luck.
“Ah, the reclusive Leo. What a pleasure to see you here.” Lucky whipped around to see another man there, an easy smile on his face. “I don’t see many of your House on this side often, I welcome you on behalf of my sire.”
The man called Leo still didn’t move yet the stillness suddenly showed a tense air, as if he was waiting to pounce. The other cleared his throat before continuing, “Ah yes. The woman. We shall have her taken care of and--”
The man never got a chance to finish because Leo reached out like lightning to grab Lucky by the arm, putting himself between them. She yelped as he ended up grabbing the arm that was hurt. The aura seemed to shift around him, going from a tense vibration to something else. It was almost like a black mist formed around him and armed themselves like daggers. He spoke one very firm No and the man backed up, eyes wide. His face showed anger and a promise that he would attack if he dared to come over. She needed to learn that skill, to make people quiver in fear with one word. With that one word, the man gave a shaky bow and turned tail to run like his life depended on it.
Lucky took a peek at Leo’s face and saw that it had returned to normal, back to the stoic form that she originally saw. Again, he held out his hand to her and turned his face away from her. He was murmuring again but she couldn’t quite pick up on what he was saying.
“You are not safe here... “
She looked back at where the man was standing before he left in fear. Maybe she wasn’t, after all. Chewing her lip out of nervousness, she finally gave in as it was against her better judgment. She took his hand, shocked to learn that it was cold even though the gloves. He looked apologetic for a split second before keeping his face under control again. With that, he swept her away from the gruesome scene.

Chapter 6- Cry Little Sister
Last fire will rise behind those eyes Black house will rock, blind boys don't lie Immortal fear, that voice so clear Through broken walls, that scream I hear
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There were fingers trailing along the curve of the neck, dipping down to cast little circles on the shoulder. The fingers were cold against your skin but each touch felt electric as they moved down the arm and took hold of your hand. You knew it was a man there before you but the face just wouldn’t focus. There was no fear in that moment, his eyes softly glowing like a sunset. The more that you tried to focus on the face, the more it seemed to blur. But the color of his eyes stayed fixed on you, never moving or blinking.
He pulled you to his chest, wrapping his arms around you in a tight hold. Both of you started to rock in place, almost dancing in that presence. There, he could hold you for as long as you stayed asleep and you could relax in that calm hold. Away from all the noises of the world, away from the danger that you had just been through and let the quiet of the night engulf both of you. Was that what peace was like? Quiet and calm, secure but strong? You hoped so as you pressed your face into his chest tighter, cheeks squishing against his hard chest. There was a low rumble you could hear as you realized that he was starting to speak.
“Dear… you came back to me but broken.”
His fingers then spread out over your back, soothing circles into that area as he danced in place with you. You looked down and realized that neither of you had either foot on the ground. Panicking, you grabbed at him more--resulting in a light chuckle from him.
“Don’t worry. I’ll never drop you nor will they have you. You are safe with me, remember that.”
Everything started to fade away but you grabbed at him even harder, not wanting to leave. One hand reached up to pat your head and smooth down some of the wild hair. He hummed a little melody to calm the nerves, still drifting along with you in his arms above the ground. You could feel yourself relaxing more into his arms as your eyes closed.
Lucky’s eyes opened but instead of expecting sunlight in the eyes, she saw that her curtains looked different. That was when she realized that she was no longer in her own room. The bed was impossibly soft and the colors of the sheets were a stark contrast to what she knew she had in her room. Black silk enveloped her body as she laid there, stock still and paralyzed with fear. She had no idea how she even got there and she was convinced that if she moved, she would be killed.
“Ok, Lucky. You have got to move. You aren’t dead so you can still get out.” She whispered to herself, gathering up the courage to do so. Carefully, she sat up and instead of pain like she had remembered--there was none. Just a bit of soreness where she knew she had been hurt. After all, the last thing she remembered wasn’t a dream.
Swinging her feet over the edge of the bed, Lucky made another discovery in the form of her not being in the same clothes she left out in. She only had on a very large white button up shirt that looked way too expensive and dangled at the ends because she was fairly short. She carefully felt around where the wounds were supposed to be but only felt skin and the little bit where something used to be. There was no scar, only smooth tissue. She tested her feet by standing up and placing them on the cold ground, bouncing as if she was preparing to run. There had to be a way out of there and she was going to find it before anyone could stop her.
The door didn’t even creak as she pulled it open, giving her hope that she could make it out of there quietly. She was glad that she didn’t wear her glasses to the outing with Laoise as she had her contacts still in. With everything that had happened to her, they probably would have been broken and she would have been crawling around like Velma trying to get out. She quietly padded around, looking everywhere and anywhere for any chance or type to escape. There was a murmur of voices that could be heard by her and she risked a peek over the railing, noticing that she was fairly high up.
There were a couple of men standing on the ground floor, backs to her as they talked. Lucky quietly moved away from the railing as she let them talk, continuing to look for a way out. Finding some stairs, she descended them as quickly as she could but it never failed that at the middle of the steps--a creak could have been heard. She froze, eyes wide as she frantically looked around to see if anyone heard the sound. Her ears strained to hear any footsteps that might have been on their way but there were no such sounds. Once on the ground floor, she turned and saw something that she thought she’d forgotten about.
The mahogany doors from her dream.
Lucky didn’t notice it before but there were little tea lights that had been lit up everywhere. They highlighted the door, as well as the rest of the area and as she got closer to it--the more of that dream came back to her. Her hands touched the wood, feeling the texture and being absolutely astounded that it actually existed. There, for a brief moment, she forgot that she was in a stranger’s house. It was almost like deja vu as she felt the smooth material under her fingers.
A hand suddenly slammed itself on the door, trapping her there and causing her to jump. Lucky whipped around to see a man there with droopy eyes but a stern look on his face. His amber eyes seemed to bore into her own until her knee rose up to meet his body. She used the opportunity to run away from him while he doubled over. She was about to take another turn when another pair of hands grabbed hold of her body, crushing her to their body. She attempted to scream and fight off the person but only succeeded in getting a good sniff of their cologne.
A feeling of calm washed over her, the panic in her leaving as his voice soothed it all away. She started to relax in his embrace as she wondered if she really was about to die there.
“If you’re going to kill me, get it over with while I feel this nice.” She mumbled but the man that held her laughed, all but dragging her into the main room. She was placed onto a lush couch, rather haphazardly and that was when she saw the strange looking man. Far away, he would have blended in with everyone else but he had something almost ethereal. Tall, handsome and his eyes were all a golden hue which didn’t match any eye color that she had ever seen in her life.
“What do you remember?” His eyes seemed to bore into Lucky’s, an almost sad look on his strong face. The sudden question threw her off and she scrambled to think, his hand flew out to grab her face. His large hand covered her eyes and held onto her top part of her face. She started to panic, flailing and scratching at his hand but the person from behind her gently wrapped their hands around her shoulders to keep her still.
She could see everything play out before her like it was happening all over again. The attack, the pain--all of it was there and it was like she could feel someone else inside of her mind directing the show. His hand grew hot the longer it was on her face, making sweat start to form on her forehead. The edges of her vision started to grow dark, even with the memories and the last thing that she heard was something about erasing her memories. The voices didn’t seem to sound malicious but they were firm in their decision.
Lucky woke up in her bed, safe and sound. She popped awake and threw off the covers that held her there. She scrambled off, expecting the man to still be there but he wasn’t. She blinked rapidly before realizing her contacts were still in therefore confirming everything she had experienced was real. Racing towards her bathroom, she tore off the shirt she had on to examine what had been done. There wasn’t any hint of lacerations, just smooth areas where a scar would have been. She looked at the shirt in her hand and realized that it was the one that she had been wearing in her supposed dream. She dropped it in a panic as if it had bit her and scrambled out of the bathroom.
There was only one person she could tell this to but after several minutes of searching, Lucky could not find her phone to call Laoise with. However, there was a way she could record it so it didn’t slip from her mind. Grumbling, Lucky rummaged about her room for something to write with. Finally finding a notebook, she started to write down everything she could and as she looked back on it--she felt herself calming down. After several minutes and the right hand cramping, Lucky finished recording everything and got properly dressed.
It was over the cup of hot coffee that she realized what it was she actually wrote.
It didn’t make any sense. Her very mind was warring with all of her common sense but there was the whisper of what if. That same whisper that seemed to get her out of a lot of things and gradually earned her the nickname Lucky. She couldn’t ignore her gut feelings but she could figure out what actually happened. Whether or not it was a dream, she had lost many hours of her life in that confusion and needed to know.
A sudden knock startled her out of her thoughts. Lucky kept quiet in hopes that they would go away but the pounding on her door grew. Finally she got up and answered the door, only to find several men in some suits and one or two in regular street wear.
“Miss Leonora Grant?” The one closest held up a badge and offered a wry smile. Lucky only stared at them, trying to figure out if the badge was real. “We need your assistance with an investigation and have determined that you are in danger. Could you come with us please?”
“Wait...what??”
The man sighed and repeated himself, even providing a number to call to verify that they were who they were. Her gut was screaming at her not to go but if they had any answers, she needed to find out what happened.

Chapter 5- Uebok (Gotta Run)
Holy shit, holy shit, this is the run and hit the Make a hit, the make a hit, like a machine gun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“So just who in the hell are you?”
The two men looked at each other and grinned, making Laoise narrow her eyes. She wasn’t going to repeat herself. She was unimpressed with the both of them already and she hadn’t even flexed her muscles yet. The stare down was brief but full of meaning as she assessed them, picking out points that she could exploit.
“Well since we know what you are, I suppose we could indulge.” The one that was speaking was a tall thing, long and lanky like he hadn’t had a proper meal in months. Sharp, dark red eyes with some darkness underneath it. The other one was shorter than him with some plumpness to his cheeks and she realized that the carefree attitude that they both had was just a ruse for her. Anger colored her body as she readied herself to fight, with everything she had.
“We are vampires and you? A simple mortal with a few special abilities--”
Laoise shut him up after softly crooning out a word. A fireball blasted him in the face, knocking him backwards to the ground. Her hand slowly oozed out blood as she held it out from the aftermath of throwing the fire. The vampire that had been talking screamed and clawed at his face, the smell of burnt flesh starting to waft about in the wind that had started to pick up. She raised another hand and the flames that were just about extinguished suddenly jumped back to life as they engulfed the vampire. Soon he was nothing but a mess of ash on the concrete as the other vampire stood wide eyed at her.
“Yes, I am a simple mortal but I’m not one to be fucked with.” The other vampire bared his fangs at her but someone had materialized behind him. The man was just as lanky as the previous one but he looked much older than his skin looked. It was the eyes that Laoise watched, those pale grey eyes that studied her just as much as she did him. He moved to the vampire that was prepared to attack her and grabbed his shoulder, making him cry out loud. He was forced down to his knees by the new man and once he was satisfied, he then stood in front of him.
“You clearly are one of the Pythonissa, a grade above the regulars that practice Wicca in this day and age. I am Bastian, leader of this small group of vampires. The one cowering behind me is Christopher and on behalf of our Coven, I would like to apologize to you.”
He bowed to Laoise, who was just as surprised as the one called Christopher. She backed down and continued to keep everything just at the tip of her fingers.
“Ok… so what the hell were two of your minions doing attacking us like this? Don’t you guys have like… rules or something?”
“Don’t you worry your head about it, Pythonissa. I will attend to them accordingly, you may go now.”
Laoise bristled at being told to leave but she had no choice if she wanted to keep the peace. They were already on the ropes so there wasn’t any need for her to stick around. Plus she had to find Lucky. The fact that she hadn’t heard any sirens bothered her because she should have been able to call someone by now. The whole thing seemed super suspicious to her from the start, when the vampires arrived but with them around and Lucky gone--a pit of worry gnawed at her stomach as she turned around.
She pulled out her phone to call the woman but after a few rings, it went to her voicemail. Laoise’s instincts were hardly ever wrong and that time, she had a very bad feeling.
Tumblr media
Lucky ran with everything she had, trying to get distance from whatever they were. However, when she could no longer hear their sounds--she stopped. She would have taken the motorcycle had she known how to drive it but it was no use now. She had her phone out and ready to call the police, looking around for any street signs to tell them where she was located.
However, the streetlights flickered as they drew her attention.
She noticed a little shop that was just now closing and the neon lights flickering along with the streetlights. There was no one in sight and the sense of danger was still going strong, despite the area looking empty. It almost was eerie, the way that everything seemed abandoned and quiet as if it was winding out after a long day. As she walked up to the store, her fingers dialed the numbers but everything was knocked out of her hands when a sudden push threw her into the window.
A hand was on her throat and a body was in front of her, looming over her small stature. And it wasn’t just one being, there was another that she could see come out of the shadows with a neutral look on his face. She cried out as she felt the pain hit her and the window start to crack from the pressure he was exerting on her body. Trying to kick him, she tried to get him off of her as her hands grasped his wrist but it did nothing for the situation.
The guy was one of the ones she saw earlier with Laoise and a lance of panic washed over her, fearing for her friend. He was much stronger than her, that much was certain just by the unwavering grip that he had on her. Lucky couldn’t break free, no matter how much she tried to twist and turn. Even digging her nails into his skin, breaking the surface from how viciously she was trying. The guy just smiled before smashing her back into the windows even more mercilessly than before. The window cracked and dug into her back, cutting the bare skin that was showing.
“This is the smell from before, Christopher. I wonder what she was doing there with the Dominus?”
Now the warning tick was a full blown alarm as the questions swirled around in her head. Or was that just the lack of air? Just a weak little sound and she started to see spots, the edges of her vision starting to dim. The man holding her suddenly drew her close to his face, eyes glowing like they had before. Lucky figured she had one good hit left in her, so she summoned the rest of her strength to kick him full in the face with everything she had. What surprised the man the most, was the fact that she had that much in her and he dropped her in response. The other man didn’t even wait until she hit the ground before kicking her right back into the windows, sending her straight through it.
Lucky landed on the floor, making the owner of the place scramble from his place to go to her aid. She gasped gratefully for the air, ignoring the sharp pain in her side from where she was kicked. There had been a good chance that she had broken a few things with that action. The owner had his own phone out and was talking very fast into it before a hand went right through his chest. She opened her mouth and screamed as loud as she could, hoping that someone could hear her over the phone.
However, that didn’t last long due to the other man reaching for her. He snapped his hand out to place a firm slap on her face. Though, it wasn’t just a firm slap to her as it sent her to the ground again. The new man licked the blood of his fingers with a sick smile on his face but after doing so, he paused. The two of them looked at each other before looking back at her, wide-eyed.
“This blood--”
“Well, that wasn’t very nice.”
A third voice rung out, making the two whip around. Lucky struggled away into a corner, away from the lot of them She could see the newcomer’s nose flare as he narrowed his focus on her. Even still, he still had a bit of baby face as he looked around and kicked some of the glass around. One of the men seemed to shimmer and had disappeared into thin air, making Lucky question her sanity while the other one bared his teeth at the newcomer.
“What can a fledgling do to me?”
At the last word, the newcomer disappeared. The man that had previously been hounding her--quite literally lost his head. It rolled over to her feet and even though it turned to ash, Lucky screamed again as she grabbed for whatever she could find to defend herself. The pain and the adrenaline had been the only thing keeping her going as her hands grasped a bottle.
The man appeared again in her sight, smiling at her with that cute grin on his face. If she were to die, she supposed, Lucky wouldn’t have minded it then with him around. He frowned a little at the pained sounds she was making, nostrils flaring again as if he was trying to hold himself back from doing something.
“Aw man. They’re all gonna kill me but I can’t just leave you here! You’re bleeding and I can’t control myself well so I’mma take you somewhere safe for now. Plus you saw what happened so maybe I could get Ravi to do something to you.”
Before she could do anything else, the man scooped her up as gently as a box of rocks. Lucky couldn’t help another sharp yelp as her side continued with the piercing pain but her instinct was to bring down the object she had in her hands down on his head. He gave her an alarmed look before trying to be gentle getting out of the building. The object shattered on his head like she had hit it against concrete, cutting her hand in the process.
“Uh… please don’t make yourself bleed more. It’s already hard enough being near you. I’m gonna run so if you get sick, then turn your head.”
Lucky fainted from the pain and stress. The phone that had been dropped was now squawking with the operator's voice, its owner long gone from the scene.

Chapter 4- Hands Up
Don't stop, let's enjoy tonight And forget all the thoughts That come to mind
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laoise shook her head at the scene before her. One of her best friends had been sitting on the floor in just a large tee and underwear as she stubbornly tried to fix the mess she had made. She knew that with her being home so much now, it was going to drive her crazy without something productive to do. So she watched as Lucky spiraled into unfinished projects and hair pulling as she sent out mass emails about jobs. Eventually, the detective decided to put matters into her own hands.
“Leonora Anita Grant. I want you to take a shower, do your hair and put on some clothes because I’m taking your ass out.”
She gaped up at the taller woman, paint all over her face as she tried for a rebuttal but Laoise wouldn’t have it. It was one thing to try and stay busy while playing the waiting game but another entirely when the whole thing stressed everyone out.
“I don’t want to hear it. You get your lucky little ass in there or I’m going to throw you into the shower.”
“At least take me to a place where I can get a decent burger!” Lucky relented, laying out her terms of the outing.
Laoise smiled, dark eyes twinkling as she thought of the perfect counteroffer. Lucky looked up at her with her light colored eyes wide and the most expressive pout on her face. She leaned over to whisper to the woman on the floor as if she was divulging some sort of secret that would get her killed.
“I’ve got one better, sug. There’s a street food vendor near the bar where I wanna take you and they have the best tacos.”
She’d never seen Lucky move that fast in the years that she’d known her. That thought did lead her to reminisce about how long they’d known each other. They met some time ago at a bookstore where she witnessed Lucky nearly kill herself by trying to get some of the top shelf books. When she stepped in to help, she realized what books she was trying to get. They chatted for quite a while about practicing magic and how it related to their world. Of course, she never quite told her why she was so interested in that subject--only that she had experience.
From there, they got along fairly well. They both came from similar regions, missing their hometowns and even helping each other get settled in their places. Granted, they worked too damn much sometimes but they at least made time to get together every once in a while. Her job as a detective had definitely taken up the majority of her time while Lucky’s had just been demanding for fuck’s sake. However, they both needed the outing more than anyone and as a way to recharge, they were going to get drunk and get tacos.
Laoise sat on the couch, listening to the shower as she waited. It wouldn’t take too long for her to get ready but it was long enough for her to pull out her phone and answer some late-night emails that were sent out. Mainly things that they needed to touch base on and leads that some of them had for different cases. Her own personal case was something of a challenge for a number of reasons. She was a woman and a person of color in the police force. Some of the gangs that had taken root in the city even laughed at her--until she knocked some out of them. She just wanted answers and those answers led her to that city.
Where she was fortunate to meet her best friend.
“That must be an important piece of work.”
Laoise blinked and realized that Lucky was standing before her, dressed and ready to go. She had opted for something simple and stylish, braiding her hair back to create one lethal thick whip. When she did her hair like that, Laoise almost cringed as she remembered being hit with it by accident. Since then, she made strides to not have that happen again. She never really did pry into the reasoning why Lucky kept her hair so long but the longer their friendship went on, she found herself wondering more and more.
“So, are we heading out or can I just get tacos?”
“Get out of the door, missy.” She pointed at the door, laughing along with her.
The ride wasn’t too far, even on the hog that she owned. The hog was a Can Am Spyder F3, large and in charge just like her. The beast she had saved up for was well worth the price and she treated it just like her baby. Everyone at her precinct knew when she was there because the bike would just barely fit into the motorcycle parking but would be shocked at how quiet the motor was. Plus she also had a look for anyone who would try and rib her about the beast. She ran circles around the cops on cycles and there were no shortage of people who wanted to test her on that. Everyone turned to look at them both when they dismounted, hardly believing that two women just blazed right in there on a motorcycle. Laoise loved that feeling, the disbelief of a tall black woman getting off the bike. It stroked her ego just ever so slightly.
The Tipsy Dog had some good reviews, even from her Sergent so she decided to give the place a try. She stalked up to the bar while Lucky found them a place to sit. The large building had a lot of seating but the majority of the people were moving around to the beat of the music. She moved around easily around the bodies to deliver the brightly colored drinks to her friend who had chosen to get out of the way of the people.
Lucky gave her a confused look when she set the drink down in front of her. Laoise laughed at her and gestured for her to take the drink while she tipped her own up to her lips. The fruity flavor exploded in her mouth, washing out the taste of alcohol as it went down. They both laughed when they looked at each other a few sips in. They sat back and talked for the majority of their first drink, preferring to relax. The drinks started to flow and they grew more hyped up as the night went along. By the third drink of equally bright colors, they were starting to feel the buzz from the liquor.
“Get tired of dancing, ladies?”
Both of their heads whipped up to see a couple of guys smiling at them. Laoise would have laughed along with them if it wasn’t for the fact that the hairs on the back of her neck were standing up. They had just sat down from a round of dancing and refreshments when the voice was heard. She could feel her buzz being killed with each syllable that was spoken.
Plus, there was something about them that she didn’t quite trust and she always trusted her instincts.
“Yeah, it’s gettin’ kind of busy out there anyways.” She responded, hoping that they would just lose interest with her short response.
However, their grins got even wider as Lucky piped up with her small talk as well. She frowned when they offered to get them more drinks, knowing that she didn’t trust anyone else with bringing her a drink in a crowded nightclub like that. There were too many variables in that situation and she wasn’t about to risk a doping incident--not when there were reports of people going missing in the city.
“Sorry fellas, but we gotta get going. Early morning shift and all.” She announced, grabbing Lucky and hauling her away. When she looked back, however, she saw that the two guys were standing still where they had left them--the grin etched on their faces but their eyes oddly glowing in the light. Whether or not it was the lighting of the club, Laoise wasn’t having it that night.
Plus she had promised Lucky tacos.
Leaving her motorcycle parked where it was, they headed down to the taco truck. Like she had said, it wasn’t far from where the club was located and it offered a great riverside view for everyone there. They talked animatedly as they stood in line, waiting for their turn to order a scandalous amount of food. Though the edge from meeting the two strangers had mostly worn off, Laoise couldn’t help but to think back at their eyes. She hoped, since moving there, she had left a part of that life behind her but now her suspicions were rising. Reminders of her own personal case started to make more sense the more she thought about it.
Laoise wasn’t quite sure, but going to the club that night seemed more like providence than anything. Even if it was to relax and unwind from all the crap that had been going on. Or possibly, she was still unnerved by what happened.
“So, you got any positions there at the Station? I’m a hard worker and awesome at clerical or administrative duties.” Lucky grinned at her once they sat down at one of the tables that had been set up for the evening.
Laoise pursed her lips and didn’t respond to her, making her friend laugh. If only she could hire her to do all that paperwork that she was constantly saddled with.
The wind started to pick up a bit, blowing over the river that they sat next to as it created a semblance of calm. The twinkling lights from the city and the stars reflected all around them;  people passing by were growing fewer and fewer. They sat there, eating and talking until the taco truck’s lights went out. It was a signal that they were closing up shop for the night. Laoise was sober by that time while Lucky still had a couple more hours to go.
“You know, I think I did have some fun tonight.” Lucky commented as they walked back to Laoise’s motorcycle.
“Well good. That was the point of the night.” She looked down at Lucky who had her hands on her head as she walked.
The beast in question was in view and it gave Laoise a moment of relief seeing it. She always worried about someone stealing it but not enough to where she couldn’t track them down. She was, after all, a detective at a precinct.
“You know what would be more exciting?” She gave Lucky the side eye as they approached the bike, knowing that her friend was about to say something off the wall. “If a handsome man came swooping in and was like I’m here to save you.”
“The fuck? Are we in danger?” Laoise laughed as they reached the bike, bending over to pull out a helmet for Lucky. “I don’t have to flash my badge to scare anyone because I am a 6’1” black woman. Who is going to mess with us?”
“Well…only us, I suppose,” came a voice from behind them.
Both girls turned around to see the two strangers from earlier, eyes still glowing despite the lack of fluorescent lights around them. Laoise immediately walked in front of Lucky and stared them down but before she could say anything, they spoke again.
“Yes, we know what business you are in and that doesn’t affect us at all. We have a different set of rules than someone of your caliber, Witch.”
“Lucky, run as far and fast as you can and call my station.”
She started to protest but saw that Laoise was taking off some of the bandages on her hands. The tone in her voice brooked no argument, a stark contrast to earlier. She wasn’t playing any games and knew how she was going to deal with them while Lucky got away. All she heard was the sharp huff and the sound of her friend running away. She grinned at the pair, drawing herself up to her full height.
“Now that she’s out of the way, how about we have some real fun, boys?”
