TokyoTreat Classic Review August 2018
TokyoTreat Classic Review August 2018
August 2018’s box has a Fruity Ninjas theme, meaning all of the items should contain fruit or be fruit flavored. Surprisingly enough, several of them aren’t, unless you count chocolate, mint, cheese, or corn fruit. Nevertheless, this is still a fun box!
Fruit Granola Black Thunder
This came in the condition you’d expect, considering that it’s still quite hot outside.
It doesn’t look appealing at all. Thankfully, it tastes fine! The chocolate coating counters the tangy fruit well, much like having chocolate covered raisins. I enjoyed that the texture wasn’t too hard, either.
It just looks so rough after a long journey.
Rating: 5/5
Cinnamon Apple Pie Umaibo
This is an Umaibo flavored like a cinnamon apple pie. The Umaibo actually arrived intact, without any breakage.
The flavor is mainly apple, with a slight hint of cinnamon. I think the Umaibo itself is apple flavored and the light coating is cinnamon, but I’m not too sure.
Either way, it’s very pleasant.
Rating: 5/5
Chocolate Mint Caramel Corn
This isn’t fruit!
That isn’t really a problem, or anything, but it doesn’t fit the theme of the box.
The snack itself is a corn puff flavored like mint chocolate chip ice cream. It’s very interesting, since it does taste as it should, but the flavor lingers for longer than I’d personally like.
The bag is a very decent size, but I’m not sure I’m going to eat a lot of them. Perhaps I’d rather have something more dessert-like if I want mint chocolate chip?
Rating: 3/5
Cheese Rice Puffs
This isn’t fruit, either.
This is a corn puff, somewhat shaped like a Frito, that tastes like cheese.
The texture is not what I expected upon first glance. It’s more like that of Puff Corn, which is a popcorn snack without kernels. Puff Corn and this snack both suffer from having a texture similar to that of something kind of stale.
The cheese flavor wasn’t really anything special here, unfortunately, so they do nothing for me.
Rating: 1/5
Honey Apple Hard Candy
This is a very basic hard candy flavored like apples and honey.
It’s very nice! The apple flavor is strong, but pleasant.
Supposedly it can help with sore throats, too.
Rating: 5/5
Fruit Donut Gummy
Unfortunately, I have no images here, as the gummy was completely melted and stuck to its package from the heat.
From what I could taste, it’s more sour than expected, so it’s not my favorite item. That being said, I feel like I can’t rate it properly since the melting made everything blend together.
Rating: Can’t rate, came melted.
Chip Star Lemon Chips
These are potato chips that look like Pringles, but are coated lightly with a lemon powder.
They’re actually really, really nice! The lemon is not too strong, and the chip itself is tasty, like an original Pringle.
I like these a lot.
Rating: 5/5
Melon Jelly Drink DIY
This is a melon jelly drink, like I have tried before. The pack comes with a cup, a cute mini straw, melon gelatin powder, and you just need to add water and mix!
Unfortunately, I may have added too much water because the melon flavor was weak and unsatisfying. I don’t want to really rate it poorly, because I may have messed up, but I feel like even if I used less water it wouldn’t have been that strong.
I don’t know.
Rating: 3/5
Shimi Corn Share Pack
This is not fruit, but it’s a tasty corn puff coated in chocolate.
They survived the heat well, and they taste just like chocolate cereal. My only complaint is that they aren’t related to fruit at all!
Rating: 5/5
VERDICT: This box was a little weaker than the previous, mainly due to some of the items not fitting the theme. That being said, it was still a fun experience!

TokyoTreat Classic Review July 2018
TokyoTreat Classic Review July 2018
This month’s box is all about summer camping snacks and flavors that remind you of such. The snacks inside all are part of the theme, and should make you think about the fun days and nights of summer!
Chocolate Mint Twigs
It’s chocolate in the summer again! I was really worried about these chocolate twigs melting, but they seemed to be okay when I opened them up.
These are flavored like mint chocolate chip ice cream. They do taste pretty close to that, with the mint flavor not too strong. The texture is softer than I would have guessed, but that’s not a bad thing. These are nice for a small, quick chocolate fix.
Rating: 5/5
Okara Cheesecake Cookies
These are very soft biscuit cookies that are flavored like cheesecake, made with okara fiber. Okara is soy pulp, according to a quick Google search.
They do taste like cheesecake, but they’re not very sweet. This isn’t bad, but not exactly what I expected. I would eat them again if given them, but I’m not too sure I’d buy them! (I do like how soft they are, though.)
Rating: 4/5
Rich BBQ Potato Sticks
These are thin potato sticks flavored with BBQ powder, in a convenient one hand bag. The whole gimmick of the bag works okay for a bit, but when you eat enough of them, the remaining sticks become a little stubborn about leaving the small hole. I ended up just opening the bag like normal then.
The taste is fine, pretty sweet like a lot of BBQ sauces. I liked them! They’re just simple and there isn’t a whole lot to say. 🙂
Rating: 5/5
Poteko Potato Rings Share Pack
I feel like I’ve gotten these before in a past box, but I don’t recall when!
These are very, very simple little potato rings. They’re lightly salted, and so it’s very easy to eat one bag in a sitting.
Luckily, four bags were in the box, so eating one quickly isn’t too bad, haha.
I really enjoy how lightly salted these are.
Rating: 4/5
Pretty Cure Chocolate Wafer
This is a chocolate wafer cookie with Precure characters on the package and a small nail decor page inside.
The wafer is basic; in fact, I’m sure I’ve had the same thing in a different package before. It’s not bad at all, though, and it survived the summer heat to get to me!
Rating: 5/5
Cheese Umaibo
Cheese Umaibo is the best Umaibo. It’s sweet and cheesy, and not too greasy or ambitious.
This one came broken, but it was still tasty. I’d love to have it again!
Rating: 5/5
Grape Soda Gummy
This is a gummy flavored like grape soda, covered in sugar powder.
As you can see, it did not survive the summer heat.
The grape flavor was still there, but the gummy was stuck in the package and hard to eat. The sugar powder all shifted to the bottom, too.
I feel like I can’t give this a fair rating due to the situation it arrived in.
Rating: Arrived melted, can’t rate.
Konpeito Candy
This is a very well known candy shaped like stars (or flowers, kinda). The candy has various light flavors, but mainly tastes like sugar.
Luna loved them in the Sailor Moon S movie!
Wishing upon these won’t let you meet Sailor Moon, but they’re tasty!
Rating: 5/5
Water Candy DIY
This DIY kit lets you choose between ramune, strawberry, or lemon liquid candy, or a mix of them all that makes a grape flavor.
I admit, I forgot to try the individual flavors! I did try the grape, though, and it was impressive! I kind of can’t believe how the original three flavors made grape so well.
That being said, this was REALLY sweet, too sweet for me to finish.
Rating: 4/5
VERDICT: This was another excellent box with no ‘duds’. The melted gummy was a little disappointing, but it was so small that it didn’t matter at the end of the day. Looking forward to the next one!

Figure Review: Kazuma Kuwabara ARTFX J
Figure Review: Kazuma Kuwabara ARTFX J
I was actually introduced to Yu Yu Hakusho a few years ago, unaware of the series’ initial run on Toonami back in the 2000s. After watching about 1/3 of the series, I realized I was pretty hooked and by the time the series was over, I searched online for merchandise featuring the main cast. As it was 2015/2016 at the time, I was both interested and disappointed to discover that Kotobukiya had released scale figures of the four main characters and Youko Kurama in 2012. The interest was due to how nice they looked, but the disappointment was due to how rare they’d become.
My boyfriend surprised me with Kurama for Valentine’s day, and I knew then that I really wanted all of them.
Yusuke was still available, for about $10-20 more than the original price. Considering the time frame between original release and my interest in the figures, that was a great deal!
Hiei proved a bit more difficult to find, but eventually someone on MyFigureCollection sold one to me for around $80. Still not bad, since he retailed for about $50 originally.
Youko Kurama, however, was very pricey. Sellers were charging anywhere from $150-250+ for him, and I couldn’t justify that. When I was sure I’d never find a decently priced one, though, one on eBay popped up for $50. I didn’t know for sure if it was legitimate or a bootleg, but I really wanted him, so I took the gamble. (I’d advise never doing this unless you REALLY want a figure, and even then be prepared for disappointment.)
Surprisingly enough, he was a genuine Kotobukiya figure!
I was super, super happy to find him for a price even better than retail, but I knew the last of the group, Kuwabara, wouldn’t happen. Why?
He was selling for $350+ at the time, and that’s even on the low end.
Auctions on eBay were rare, and when they occurred, they ended at a similar price to the low end. He definitely, definitely was not worth that to me, so I passed, thinking it would never happen.
About two years ago I messaged Kotobukiya’s page and asked if they had any plans of a reprint for the line since the series was about to hit its 25th anniversary. Unfortunately, I was told no.
But then….
A surprise announcement was made! All five figures were getting a reprint, and for their original prices! Unbelievable! Kuwabara was preordered instantly, and he arrived yesterday.
(Please note that the images look much better if you click on them!)
Kuwabara ARTFX J
The box looks just like the original print’s, and matches the other four figures in the group. The sides have Kuwabara in the anime style and in the figure’s style, with a bright, fiery background.
The picture above is what you get in the box, minus his sword. (I forgot to include it there, whoops!)
The stand is a yellow-orange hue, depicting the Spirit Sword. Each of the figure’s bases depicts a power or a symbol significant to the character.
Unfortunately, Kotobukiya kept the exact same stand design as the first run, meaning there’s only one peg. Kuwabara only has one foot with a hole in it, to go around the peg. The reason why I find this unfortunate is that the figure is kind of heavy and can easily fall off of the stand and break the peg into the foot.
The exact same thing happened to me with Youko Kurama, who is also heavy.
This is the side of the box showing off the figure. The colors all look vibrant and eye catching.
The back of the box shows more sides of the figure and some text, presumably to sell you on buying him.
Out of the box, Kuwabara can immediately go on his stand. He’s pretty wobbly on it, which I was afraid of, but he looks good otherwise.
Nothing about his sculpt seems off or lazy — even the folds and wrinkles on his clothing look as they should! I found that pretty impressive.
The kanji on his back are painted well, no smudges or errors I could see around them.
The figure looks great in all kinds of lighting!
His sword, which you can clearly see in the second image above, is impressively detailed and translucent enough to let light through, highlighting the ‘effect’.
The only downside of the sword is that it kind of likes to fall out of his hand. I’ve had him on display for a week now, though, and it hasn’t moved, so it only tends to fall out if you’re handling him.
Also, the sword is sharp to the touch.
Here are some more images highlighting the entire figure.
Finally, a front shot. This is a very nice figure for the price and captures the spirit of the character well! I would recommend him to anyone who enjoys the series.
OVERALL SCORE: 9/10 – I love this figure! The sculpt is excellent, the paint is perfect. The only reason he is not a 10 is due to the one peg in the stand, as it’s too delicate to be reliable.
Kuwabara ARTFX J is available on Amazon! If you purchase him through this link I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks!
At the time of this writing, he does not have a bootleg available. He is the only one of the line not to receive one, but this may change at any moment. Always make sure a Studio Pierrot or Funimation sticker is present on the box!

TokyoTreat Classic Review June 2018
TokyoTreat Classic Review June 2018
TokyoTreat actually arrived about ten days earlier than usual this month, which was a pleasant surprise.
This month’s box is all about carnival snacks or snacks that make you think of summertime. It’s definitely hot enough outside where I am to enjoy some summertime treats!
Before I start, I should tell you that I did continue my subscription, so I will be reviewing more boxes to come.
Ikinari Dango Kit Kat
I know, I know, chocolate in the summertime. Unfortunately, these did melt, as expected, so they don’t look very appealing. They were supposed to look more like a small Kit Kat bar.
That being said, these are flavored like mochi with red bean and sweet potato paste. The outer chocolate coating tastes more like sweeter white chocolate to me, which isn’t a complaint.
The filling really gives off of more of a sweet potato flavor than red bean, which is fine, but the sweet potato does tend to linger in the mouth a bit longer than I feel is necessary.
Still a nice treat!
Rating: 4/5
Takenoko No Sato – Cookies and Cream
The booklet says that you may receive a honey butter or a cookies and cream variety of these little bamboo shoot (takenoko) shaped cookies. I received the cookies and cream one.
The frosting tastes a lot like a Hershey’s cookies and cream candy bar, but nicer quality. The chocolate cookie underneath is a standard chocolate flavor, but somewhat softer than you might expect.
The picture isn’t really showing the cookies justice since they melted into each other.
These were very delicious!
Rating: 5/5
Yogurt Flavored Ginza Rusk
Rusk, as I’ve reviewed in the past, is a crunchy biscuity snack shaped like a cube. This variety is white chocolate yogurt, and they taste mainly of white chocolate and butter to me. This isn’t a problem, as they’re still very delicious.
The booklet says that the lactic acid in the yogurt is to help digestion, though these snacks probably don’t contain a ton of that.
I enjoyed these quite a bit.
Rating: 5/5
Umaibo Tonkatsu
I think I’ve said this in the past, but I’ve never had tonkatsu proper. I can’t judge if this umaibo is true to the flavor, but I can say that it’s very strong in taste. I found it pretty sour, honestly, and somewhat hard to finish.
That being said, if this is what tonkatsu tastes like, this umaibo is labeled correctly!
I didn’t think it was awful, just too strong for my tastes. Perhaps it would be different for others!
I will say that I liked how it wasn’t nearly as greasy as last month’s, though.
Rating: 3/5
Melon Cream Soda Chips
These are potato chips coated in a melon soda flavored powder.
Yes, you read that right.
They smell a lot like candy, and taste similar to what you’d expect them to taste like — a melon soda.
The combination of melon soda and potato isn’t nearly as odd as it sounds, and it works pretty well here. I think it helps that the chips are not salted.
I liked these, but I probably wouldn’t buy them on their own.
Rating: 4.5/5
Koikeya Scone Rich Corn Flavor
I assumed that by reading the name, these would be scones, or something close to them. However, they’re more like Cheetos in shape and texture, and they’re flavored like buttered corn.
Japan apparently loves buttered corn flavored snacks, because I have seen them a lot. I do too, though, so they’re always welcome in a subscription box. 🙂
These snacks are sweeter than some buttered corn snacks but they’re very pleasant and somewhat addicting.
Rating: 5/5
Salty Seaweed Stick Potato Snack
These look a lot like Potato Sticks, but they’re covered in a salty seaweed powder.
Honestly, they taste mainly like salted potato to me, but that’s just fine.
Eating one of the mini bags in one sitting is easier than it should be, since they’re very nice to snack on.
I liked these a lot even if the flavor of seaweed wasn’t really there.
Rating: 5/5
Cheesnack
The booklet called this snack Cheesnack, but the wrapper says Chee-ZACK. Is the cat named Zack? Is he Chester Cheetah’s cousin? Who knows.
I do know that this is a cheese cracker sandwich with a sweeter filling than most, and I did enjoy it, but I think I prefer salty cheese flavor over sweet at the end of the day.
The sandwich is also pretty crumbly and somewhat messy to eat.
Rating: 4/5
Popsicle DIY Kit
This is a cute little DIY kit where you put together a soft candy, powder, and syrupy liquid to make ‘popsicles’.
The picture of the finished product isn’t the prettiest since the candy did melt some, but it tastes nice! Blue is ramune flavor, and pink is strawberry.
I think the syrup is somewhat minty since the popsicle is kind of cooling to taste, which is neat.
The only complaint I have is how messy this can be if you aren’t careful. It’s a minor complaint though.
Rating: 4.5/5
VERDICT: This was a fun box with all around great snacks and treats, themed after summer snacks! The Cheeto-like Scone snack was my favorite, for sure.

TokyoTreat Classic Review May 2018
TokyoTreat Classic Review May 2018
I’m back with another TokyoTreat review! May’s theme is anime, as a play on the somewhat recent Ani-May trend a lot of websites and stores like to participate in.
Since I’m a fan of a decent amount of anime series, I was very excited to try this box out!
TokyoTreat Classic Review May 2018
Boruto Pineapple Jellies
First up is an individually wrapped pineapple flavored jelly snack featuring characters from Boruto on the lids.
I have to disclose that I’ve had a very similar snack before in a Skoshbox and I really disliked it. The texture was really … wet and slimy.
Unfortunately, these are exactly the same as the ones I had before. Wet, slimy, and personally unpleasant. The taste is fine, a pineapple candy flavor, but the texture is just so off-putting to me that I could only have the one I opened and the one my boyfriend couldn’t even finish.
No offense if you like these, but I never seem to. It’s disappointing since they’re popular in Japan.
Rating: 1/5
TokyoTreat Classic Review May 2018
Splatoon Gummies
Technically, Splatoon isn’t an anime, but it’s a video game series from Japan so it still works for this box’s theme.
This snack is a gummy candy shaped like squids and octopuses (up until this very moment I thought the plural of octopus was octopi, seriously. Google proved me wrong!).
While this is miles more pleasant than the Boruto jellies, this treat is just a bit too difficult for me to chew. Thing is, I do have jaw problems, so it’s kind of unfair of me to judge them that way. They taste fine, though I really can’t identify the flavor. The mold for the gummies is well detailed, as well, which is nice.
TokyoTreat Classic Review May 2018
I’m giving them a 5/5 since I could probably chew them with more ease if I didn’t suffer from jaw problems.
Rating: 5/5
TokyoTreat Classic Review May 2018
Sriracha Rice Chips
I’m not a big fan of spice. I’ve tried Sriracha once, because I really wanted to know what the hype was about, but it ended up being a bit too spicy for me. The taste was fine, though, so I wish I could have handled it better.
That being said, these are Sriracha and sesame rice chips, and while they can pick up spice after eating a few, they’re not too bad. They have a very pleasant taste, and the sesame works well with the Sriracha. The texture is somewhat light and forgiving, encouraging you to eat more than you probably should in one go.
I still just can’t do Sriracha on its own.
Rating: 5/5
TokyoTreat Classic Review May 2018
Umaibo Mentaiko
This is a creamy salted pollock roe flavored Umaibo. I really feel like I’ve had this Umaibo before, but maybe it was a similar variety. Either way, it isn’t unpleasant at all.
The snack itself is greasy, both in appearance and feel, but the taste isn’t really the same. It’s sweet, and gives off a slight seafood flavor that I probably wouldn’t have picked up on if the booklet didn’t tell me what it was supposed to taste like. It isn’t bad, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase it later.
Rating: 4/5
TokyoTreat Classic Review May 2018
Don Taro Udon Snack
These are small dried noodles flavored like udon broth that you snack on out of the bag.
They actually really taste as they should, and their texture is crunchy, like a dried noodle. The only complaint I have about them is that they get very salty very quickly, so I wouldn’t advise eating the whole bag in one go.
They do taste nice, though!
Rating: 4.5/5
TokyoTreat Classic Review May 2018
Thomas the Tank Engine Chewy Candy
Thomas the Tank Engine isn’t an anime! That was seriously what I thought when I saw this in the box.  (I admit, I Googled to see if there was an anime based on this, but there isn’t.)
That being said, this is a pleasant taffy-like grape chewy candy wrapped like gum, featuring Thomas and friends on the wrapper.
There isn’t much to say about it — the flavor is the same artificial grape flavor I’ve tasted in quite a few Japanese candies, but I find it enjoyable.
Rating: 5/5
TokyoTreat Classic Review May 2018
Edamame Snack Share Pack
The booklet said these were reminiscent of Senzu Beans from Dragonball. I suppose they could be, so they fit in the box.
These are a snack I’ve had before, but I like them a lot. They’re like crackers, but they taste like edamame with some savory seasoning on them. The fiery icon on the bag doesn’t mean they’re spicy, because they’re not at all.
Trust me, I am sensitive to spice, so I would know, haha.
Rating: 5/5
TokyoTreat Classic Review May 2018
Shin-Chan Chocobi Almond Tofu Corn Puff
Shin-Chan is a very popular series in Japan. I’ve never seen it, but I’ve heard of it.
This is a simple corn puff snack flavored like sweet almond. The pack comes with a sticker, too.
The snack itself is really tasty. Sweet, light, and crispy. I liked these a lot!
Oh, and FYI — eat ALL of these in one sitting or make sure you put them in a Ziploc bag! They get stale very fast, as I found out. 🙁
Rating: 5/5
TokyoTreat Classic Review May 2018
One Piece Bubbly Jelly DIY
This is the treat I was most excited for in this box. I love One Piece, and this is a melon flavored sweet snack featuring One Piece characters on the plastic cup.
The treat requires some preparation before you can enjoy it, but the instructions are simple. Adding water with the first powder, having it sit in the fridge, and mixing the second powder is about all it takes.
The taste is pretty much what you’d expect from a sweet melon snack. It’s very strong, but not unpleasant, and the addition of the second powder allows for the top to be light and foamy, almost reminiscent of a root beer float.
I was lucky enough to get the cup I wanted, as well! It makes a great bathroom cup since it’s made of a pretty sturdy plastic.
Rating: 5/5
VERDICT: This box was very nice, even if I personally disliked the jellies. I know others would love them, and there were a lot in the bag, so I feel like the value was there. Everything else was great, and the One Piece treat was fun to make.

Figure Review: Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO - Hiken
Figure Review: Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
I know, another Sabo figure review. I wasn’t originally intending on even getting this figure, but I was surprised with it as a very early birthday present so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to write about it. 🙂
This figure is from the Figuarts ZERO Extra Battle line. The Extra Battle line is as it sounds, a series of One Piece characters performing flashy battle moves. Technically, the line is called Chou Gekisen -Extra Battle-,’ but I’m calling it Extra Battle for simplicity’s sake.
The latest entry in the line (as of this writing) is Sabo using his Hiken, or Fire Fist, powers.
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
Let’s start with the box. The box is flashy and reminiscent of a comic book style. Other figures in this line have a similar aesthetic, including the character’s name in messy paintbrush strokes.
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
The side shows the figure, nothing too special since you’ll be seeing the real thing soon enough.
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
The back shows other angles of the figure and some flavor text to help encourage you to purchase it.
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
Sabo himself stands about 6″ tall, with the flame above about 7.5″. As you can probably see in this image, my copy has a small black paint spot on his knee. This is unfortunate, but somewhat par for the course with these figures sometimes. I don’t think it detracts from the piece, but it does mean that others may have worse ‘defects’.
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
Turning him a bit, you can see how dynamic the pose is. Even with the small ‘defect’ on his leg, I’m very impressed with the overall sculpt.
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
The flames coming out of his pipe are particularly stunning. I appreciate that they’re somewhat translucent — I always feel like solid flames on figures don’t have as much of a visual impact on the viewer, since light can’t go through them at all.
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
There are even some small flames on the ends of his jacket!
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
With a macro lens and the light shining through, the flames look even nicer.
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
Different angles of the figure continue to show how dynamic the pose is.
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
Smaller details like his hat and cravat are sculpted well — I don’t really have any complaints about them.
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
His face looks fine. The expression fits the sculpt, so I don’t have anything to really say about it. His eyes look simply painted on, with no depth, but that’s kind of how the character’s eyes are canonically so it fits here.
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
His scar is about the same, it’s just there.
Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken
Finally, the base. This is one of my favorite parts of this figure, simply due to how loud it is. I think the other bases in this line look about the same, and I really like how it reaffirms just how much this line is all about action. Nothing here is static or flat, aside from the painting on the face, and at the end of the day that isn’t a complaint, it’s an expectation for the character.
MyFigureCollection entry for Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken.
I had fun with my macro lens for my phone’s camera. You can purchase it here if you’re interested — it was very cheap and comes with several other lenses and a pouch.
OVERALL SCORE: 9/10 – I really like this figure! I like how loud and action packed it is, all the way down to the base. I don’t like the paint ‘defect’ on his leg, but it’s pretty minor. The scale/size is nice, and worth the price point of ~$50.
The Sabo -Extra Battle- Figuarts ZERO – Hiken version figure is not available to preorder on Amazon.
You can purchase him through eBay with this link, but be aware that this figure DOES have bootlegs produced so purchase him from a reputable seller, such as one from Japan or a US seller with clear pictures of the box. If you see no sticker, do not buy! Also note that if the price is too good to be true (well under $50) chances are you’ll be purchasing a fake!

TokyoTreat Classic Review April 2018
TokyoTreat Classic Review April 2018
The last few months have been a bit hectic in terms of receiving Skoshboxes on time and with all of the snacks (because of the US customs facility my packages go through). The solution to that was to cancel, and even though I had been a subscriber for three or so years, I figured it was for the best.
After doing some research on other Japanese snack boxes, I settled on TokyoTreat at $25 a month. I went ahead and subscribed for three months, so I’ll be reviewing them until June, when I’ll decide whether to continue subscribing or not. (I probably will, though?)
The main difference between TokyoTreat and Skoshbox is the size of the basic, or classic box. The classic TokyoTreat contains a decent bit more than the small Skoshbox, so this review will be longer than previous.
As you can see in the header image, TokyoTreat provides you with a booklet in each box. I really missed booklets! They’re informative, and they help you know what you’re getting into. Since these snacks have little to no English on them, a booklet kind of makes the box for me. I much prefer having one instead of being told to just go on a website.
Anyway, let’s begin!
TokyoTreat Classic Review April 2018
Choco Banana DIY Kit
This is a very amusing item to receive in my first TokyoTreat box. Why? Well, it happened to be included in the very first Skoshbox I ever had, years ago. I didn’t write about boxes back then, so I can’t show any pictures but it’s still kind of funny.
The snack itself is simple — you take the enclosed wooden pick and grab a yellow log, dip it in the chocolate, and roll it into the sprinkles.
TokyoTreat Classic Review April 2018
See? Simple. The yellow candy tastes a lot like banana runts, which I love, but some people find them less than pleasant. The chocolate tastes a lot like cake frosting, and the sprinkles are just sprinkles. Nothing special there.
I like this because I love banana runts, and it’s kind of cute. The candy doesn’t look like a banana, but that’s not a big deal.

Tohato Caramel Corn
This is a corn puff that tastes a lot like caramel corn. There isn’t a whole lot to say about them, but they’re very tasty.
Each TokyoTreat box comes with a “share pack” of a snack, and this was April’s. “Share pack” means you receive multiple small bags of the snack. I liked that this was the chosen “share pack” because it’s light, tasty, and pretty fun to eat. They’re not too sweet, either, so you might be tempted to have a second bag when you’re done.

Don Tacos Grilled Corn Flavor
I have never heard of Don Tacos before, but he looks like he’s having a great time on the bag!
The booklet enclosed with the box explains that grilled corn is very popular in Japan and usually covered in soy sauce and butter. These chips smell and taste a lot like corn with butter, with a hint of soy sauce.
I’ve never tried soy sauce on my corn, but if these chips are anything to go by, it’s a very pleasant combination! I think if too much soy sauce is used it might be a different story, but a light amount would work just fine.

Calbee Plum Seaweed Chips
Ah, umeboshi. One of my least favorite Japanese delicacies.
Needless to say, I was concerned when I saw these in the box. I recall having some very strongly sour snacks in the past due to umeboshi.
Luckily, these potato chips don’t have too much plum powder on them, so the flavor isn’t very potent. I still think I’d prefer chips with just seaweed, but these weren’t nearly as bad as I thought they’d be.
TokyoTreat Classic Review April 2018
The chips themselves are high quality, crispy, and not too greasy.

Umaiwa Cheese
These are corn puffs shaped like rings with cheese powder on them. The cheese powder is inspired by fondue, which is something I am very fond of.
The rings are well coated, with no bare spots. The powder is strong, somewhat sweet, and very cheesy.
These are REALLY tasty! My only complaint is that I wish the bag were bigger!!

Umaibo Teriyaki Burger
I don’t particularly know what a teriyaki burger tastes like, but this umaibo is very tasty and very teriyaki-like.
Umaibo, if you don’t know, is a long puffy corn snack that’s light and usually flavored with something savory. I believe TokyoTreat boxes usually have one in them, which is fine since I usually like them a decent bit.

(The package for the umaibo was very cute, too!)

Healthy Snacking Squishy Lemon Gummies
TokyoTreat includes a healthier snack in every box, and April’s was this gummy snack.
The gummies smell kind of strange when you first open them, but they taste just fine. The booklet says they contain fiber to help you remain full longer, but I can’t really say if that’s true or not since I had them with other things.
If you like the taste of lemon candy, sweet and somewhat tart, you’ll like these. They aren’t too hard to chew either, which I like.

Kyoro-chan’s Custard Pudding Snack
Does Kyoro-chan look familiar? He (or she, I don’t know) might, due to being the mascot for Choco ball, another Japanese snack.
These are not really like Choco ball, but they are nice. They’re light custard flavored candies that look like Easter eggs. They kind of remind me of malted milk balls a little bit, though the inside isn’t as crunchy.
They’re sweet and easy to just pop into your mouth!
Rating: 5/5
TokyoTreat Classic Review April 2018
Pakkuncho Disney Custard Pudding Biscuits
These are another custard treat, though they’re cookies instead of candy. They’re sweet, filled with a custardy cream, and they kind of remind me of Koala Yummies. Not a bad thing at all!
Each cookie has a Disney character or scene printed on them. I admit I don’t know what the one I took a picture of is, but it says ‘See you!’
And I think that’s an appropriate place to end this review! 🙂

TokyoTreat Classic Review April 2018
VERDICT: I was very pleased with this box! Everything was delicious, even the potato chips (which were my least favorite.) I think I liked the Umaiwa Cheese the best, but the Caramel Corn was really nice too.
I’m looking forward to the next two boxes!
Interested in trying TokyoTreat out for yourself? A classic box, like what I have reviewed here, is available for $25 on TokyoTreat’s page.  A premium option is also available for a little more.

MyJapanBox KitKat February 2018 Review
MyJapanBox KitKat February 2018 Review
I love KitKats. Japan loves KitKats. Unfortunately, I have never received any in a Skoshbox, so I figured I would try some from another subscription service.
I ended up going for MyJapanBox, since I went with them before for their One Piece box and their One Time Box page listed a KitKat variety.
Note: I had to Google Translate the packaging for these as there wasn’t an English pamphlet or anything in the box. I think I guessed the flavors well, but if not please let me know in the comments!!
As like last time, the box was plain brown with no discernible branding or anything.
Berry and Almond Yogurt (?) KitKat
MyJapanBox KitKat
These look a bit like the rose KitKats I had in the October 2017 One Piece box, but they are actually different. The top of the bar is coated in almond and berry bits and the chocolate tastes a lot like yogurt. The bag shows a bowl of yogurt and an almond, so I think my translation wasn’t very off.
The candy tastes slightly acidic, like yogurt, with a sweet touch. There are notes of berry flavors there, though I can’t tell which, and the crunchy almond coating mellows out the entire thing. I like these a lot! They only come one to a pack, though, so there aren’t as many in the bag as I’d like.
Matcha Biscuit KitKat
MyJapanBox KitKat
MyJapanBox KitKat
I don’t love matcha, or green tea. It’s alright. A little bit goes a long way for me, so I prefer it with citrus or something sweet to balance it. That being said, purchasing any blind box of candy from Japan always presents the chance of me receiving something matcha flavored so I’m not upset about these!
These KitKats smell strongly of green tea, and they taste like it as well. The first few seconds of tasting it aren’t too bad, but soon a very strong flavor of green tea comes in and I remember why I don’t like it on its own.
I think these have a different type of cookie in them than usual, too, but I couldn’t really taste it over the matcha.
If you love matcha/green tea, and I mean REALLY love it, these are for you! If not, you may not like them that much.
Strawberry KitKat
MyJapanBox KitKat
MyJapanBox KitKat
These seem to be simple strawberry chocolate KitKats, but that’s not a bad thing.
The bag contains 12 individually wrapped packs of two-piece KitKats, the standard type for miniature sizes. As a bonus, the back of the wrappers have the occasional line of encouragement. This one said “Good Job!” Thanks, KitKat!
The strawberry coating smells strongly of, you guessed it, strawberries. Strawberries and artificial strawberry flavor. The flavor matches this, but impressively adds a layer of tartness to the sweet strawberries.
The taste reminds me of somewhat under-ripe strawberries from the grocery store.
I like these, but they get a little too tart after a bit. I think I prefer the just sweet strawberry flavor of Pocky more, but these are still enjoyable.
Baseball Citrus KitKat
MyJapanBox KitKat
MyJapanBox KitKat
I have no idea what these are actually called, but the package shows baseball players, baseballs, and baseball bats among various citrus fruit so I picked a name for this variety. 🙂
The package contains three individually wrapped KitKats of the standard two-piece type. The candy immediately emits a smell of oranges when you open one of the individual packs. I like oranges and most citrus, so these are great for me.
The white chocolate does have a citrus taste, mainly of oranges or tangerines, and if there is any lime or lemon, it’s masked. That’s not a bad thing, though, because orange and white chocolate do seem to go together very well.
I actually really like these, and I would have loved a second box of them! I don’t know what the reason for the baseball theme is, with this flavor choice, but it’s a tasty variety not like anything in America.
FINAL VERDICT: This box wasn’t as good of a value as the One Piece box I reviewed back in October, but it was still fun to write about. As I personally don’t really enjoy matcha, the green tea KitKats were the weakest of the bunch, and I would have liked another small box of a different flavor!
Check out MyJapanBox’s KitKat page if you’re interested in trying out a subscription for yourself. It’s $29 a month for the basic box, which is what I received, if you pay monthly. If you’d like to purchase just one box, the cost is $29 and you can order one on the One Time Box page here.
Do you run a subscription box service? Would you like me to review one of them? I am always very glad to try out new boxes and tell the world about them! Please don’t hesitate to check out my About Me page and send me a message!

Skoshbox Review: February 2018
Skoshbox Review: February 2018
As you have probably noticed, I didn’t write a Skoshbox review for a few months. I posted on my Twitter that I wasn’t feeling up to writing about November’s or December’s, due to holiday stress and such, but I fully intended on writing about January’s! Unfortunately, the box came very late (after the 20th) and two items were taken out of it by US customs due to having undeclared meat powder. That was a frustrating and disappointing experience, but thankfully February’s came with everything. (The box looked like a wreck though, and it didn’t come until the 17th.)
I wish I could write these sooner but they come very slowly to me! 🙁 Sorry about that!
The list of the items sent in this box is on Skoshbox’s official page.
  Look A La Mode
Skoshbox February 2018 Review
These are chocolates filled with various flavored creme. The flavors are banana, almond, strawberry, and coffee. (I really liked the packaging and how clear it was which chocolate was which flavor.)
The banana ones are strong, and of a vaguely artificial flavor. This isn’t a problem for me, as I have a soft spot of fake banana flavor, but if you don’t really like that you probably wouldn’t enjoy them.
The almond chocolates are pretty much perfect; light, kind of airy creme with an almond flavor. I liked them a lot and I feel like they’re an ‘easy’ chocolate for anyone to snack on.
The strawberry chocolates are a lot like the banana, though a bit more mellow. Not much to say about them, but I liked them too.
The coffee ones were my favorite, by far, as they reminded me of my Japanese candy love, Coffee Beat. The creme is really reminiscent of a sweet latte and the chocolate complements it wonderfully.
These chocolates were consumed immediately after opening them!

Comecco: Wasabi Nori Flavor
Skoshbox February 2018 Review
These are rice crackers with wasabi and nori (seaweed) flavoring. I don’t like wasabi, and neither does my boyfriend, but nori is fine.
These crackers aren’t as bad as I expected them to be. I only had one, and the wasabi flavoring wasn’t burning my mouth at all, but I could tell that if I had more my opinion probably would have changed.
The nori flavor is there, though somewhat masked by the wasabi. The texture of the cracker is nice and light, but the overall flavor profile is just not my thing.
If you like wasabi these might be for you, but even then, they might be too light for that.
Rating: 2/5
Fit’s White Cider Gum
Skoshbox February 2018 Review
This is a standard stick of gum with fruity flavor crystals inside. Unfortunately, I have TMJ disorder and it’s been pretty bad lately, so I really shouldn’t chew gum. My boyfriend had to try this one for me — he did like it, at least.
The cider flavor is very similar to ramune soda, which is a good thing. We both like ramune! The fruit crystals arent really noticeable, as the gum just tastes like ramune, but they added some color to it, anyway.
The flavor is overall sweet and pleasant.
Rating: 5/5
Omochi Nadeshiko Candy
Skoshbox February 2018 Review
These are supposed to be hard candies flavored like Japanese dishes and filled with a chewy center. I can’t read Japanese, and Skoshbox’s site didn’t say what the flavors were, so I had no idea what to expect.
The red and gold candies are sweet and delicious — I really enjoy both. The green, however, has a slight tang to it which I can’t really place. It ends up being sweet after a few seconds, but still not as sweet as the others. I definitely like it the least but it’s not bad.
The soft centers are softer than a Tootsie Roll but not completely goopy like some hard candies’ centers. I like the consistency.
Overall, these are pleasant but I wish I knew what dishes they were based off of! (Google Translate’s app couldn’t really pick up the kanji.)
Rating: 4/5
Toppo Milk Tea
Skoshbox February 2018 Review
These are cookie biscuits filled with a sweet milk and tea creme. They’re impressively accurate to the flavor they advertise!
I am more of a coffee fan than a tea fan but I still think these are very nice. The tea isn’t too strong, and the sweet milk complements the biscuit nicely.
I wonder how these would be dipped in hot tea? Probably quite tasty!
Rating: 5/5
Denroku Mame E Size
Skoshbox February 2018 Review
These are peanuts covered in a sweet and savory coating. The coating is mainly sweet to me, but that’s not a complaint at all.
The peanuts are, well, peanuts — simple and unsalted. The coating is hard, but not tooth-breaking, and somewhat reminiscent of Boston Baked Beans.
I like these a lot! I would buy them if they were available here and I wanted a sweet and peanutty snack.
Rating: 5/5
Verdict for February 2018: EXCELLENT! The only item I didn’t love was the wasabi rice crackers, but I don’t like wasabi so I’m biased. My boyfriend tried the gum for me and really enjoyed it, so everything else was a success! This box was well worth $12. 🙂
Check out Skoshbox’s page if you’re interested in trying out a subscription for yourself. It’s $12 a month for the basic box, which I receive, if you pay monthly.
Do you run a subscription box service? Would you like me to review one of them? I am always very glad to try out new boxes and tell the world about them! Please don’t hesitate to check out my About Me page and send me a message!

Trunks Premium Color Edition Figuarts Review
Trunks Premium Color Edition Figuarts Review
Confession: I didn’t like Dragonball Z as a teenager. I gave it a few shots, since it aired before Sailor Moon on Toonami (I believe it did, anyway) but it never really grabbed me. Perhaps it was partly due to how I never watched the beginning, or even attempted to find and rent some of the early episodes from Blockbuster (RIP). Either way, I didn’t enjoy it and I kind of forgot about giving it an honest shot again until recently.
Dragonball Z Kai helped me get the original story of DBZ without the filler, and it made the overall experience much more enjoyable. Of course, since I love figures, I ended up poking around the internet to see what was available. To no surprise, the answer was a lot.
As I had heard very nice things about most of the SH Figuarts Dragonball line, I figured I’d pick one out and see what I think. I was torn between Piccolo and Trunks; Vegeta was actually my favorite character but he had a few more versions than the other two and I didn’t want to have to pick between them, haha.
I ended up going for Trunks since an auction was ending within 5 minutes of me finding it and I figured it was fate. Or something.
First things first, I knew going into this that the DBZ Figuarts have no stands. Why? Who knows. I suppose a more valid question would be: why do the Sailor Moon Figuarts have them? Either way, I didn’t have a stand for Trunks so I had to make do with leaning him against his box for most of these pictures.
Second, there are two versions of this figure. The first was released in 2012 and has an entry on MyFigureCollection here. The second, which is what I am reviewing, came out in 2016 and arguably has a better paint job but fewer accessories. The first edition is very pricey now, so unless you really need the extra pieces I would definitely recommend purchasing the newer one.
Anyway…
Trunks Figuarts
Trunks’ box matches the other DBZ Figuarts, with comic style close up shots of the figure on the sides and action poses on the back. This isn’t too different from the Sailor Moon boxes, but they have their own unique style. I like it, even if the text on the back is somewhat goofy in tone.
Trunks Figuarts
Trunks comes with his sword, scabbard, several faceplates, and his head in Super Saiyan form. He also comes with quite a few pairs of hands. I think this is enough stuff for him to come with, though it is odd that they dropped a few faceplates for this version.
Trunks Figuarts
Trunks Figuarts
Trunks Figuarts
Trunks Figuarts
The paint job on this Figuarts is very nice! The Capsule Corp logo on his jacket is impressively painted on and pretty clear, and I personally didn’t see any strange paint defects or blotches anywhere on him or his extra pieces. (The logo has one minuscule paint chip that I only noticed with my macro lens.)
Trunks Figuarts
His joints move fine, though replacing his head with his Super Saiyan one was somewhat difficult. This will probably get easier with time, though.
Trunks Figuarts
The scabbard’s strap is interesting — it wraps around him and snaps into place, though it felt pretty fragile and I didn’t want to mess around with it too much.
Posing Trunks is only tricky due to the lack of a stand, which is partially my fault for not buying one. I probably will at some point when I can catch one cheap.
Trunks Figuarts
One thing I did notice about him is his height. He’s shorter than Sailor Mercury’s Figuarts, which is funny to me because I think he’s supposed to be a little taller than her canonically? (DB wiki says he’s 5’7″, SM wiki says she’s 5’2.5″)I know she’s on her stand in this picture but even if she weren’t, I think she’d be a smidgen taller.
Trunks Figuarts
All in all, I’m quite impressed with him! Compared to a few of my Sailor Moon Figuarts, he has a much better paint job and tighter joints. Yes, it’s disappointing that he doesn’t come with the other faceplates the first version did, but the ones included here are more than enough to pose him with.
If you missed out on the first version of the Trunks Figuarts, I would highly recommend getting this one before it’s really hard to find!
Interested in owning this figure? Amazon has him available currently, and if you purchase him through this link I’ll receive a small commission at no extra cost to you! 🙂  I’m not going to link to an eBay search for this figure, since bootlegs for Dragonball items are really prominent.

Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO Review
Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO Review
Hello! It sure has been a while, hasn’t it? Unfortunately, I wasn’t doing too well the past few months with stress and illness related stuff, so I passed on reviewing Skoshbox or writing about anything, really. I’m doing a bit better now, but the January 2018 Skoshbox has yet to arrive for me, so ….
As you may very well know, the 20th anniversary of One Piece took place last year and there has been a ton of merchandise to celebrate that. Oda drew a full color spread of the Straw Hat crew in fancy matching attire at some point during the festivities, and Bandai released a figure line depicting the characters exactly as they were in that picture.
I really liked how Sanji looked there, so I ordered the figure version of him when I found out about the release.
Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO
I admit, I took him out of the box beforehand and had to put him back in there to take a picture for this post. He was actually packed better than that from the factory.
The box shows the art the figure was based off of on the side, which you can see on the header image here. Below, you can see the depiction of Sanji next to the figure. Very cool!
Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO
Sanji doesn’t actually come with much here; there’s a fairly large translucent blue stand with the text stating that it’s from the 20th anniversary. Interestingly enough, Sanji was on the stand in the box when I opened it, which is something I’ve never seen before with a figure. Not a complaint, but it was somewhat surprising to see.
Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO
The extra two spots in the stand are actually under it. Not sure what they’re for, but they might help with putting all of the stands together if you buy the entire line. Or something. I really don’t know!
Sanji’s hairline shows a slight gap, which you can see in the image below. This gap is so you can change his faceplate.
But where is his extra faceplate? It’s not in the box!
Usopp’s figure actually has it.
Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO
I didn’t want any of the other figures in this line, so it was a little disappointing to find out that Usopp had Sanji’s extra faceplate, but it was just of him smiling — not a big loss.
All of the Straw Hats have an extra face plate in a different figure’s box, which is assumingly a way to get you to buy all of them. I’m not a huge fan of this; thankfully the extra faceplates are mainly the same expression, not the ones the character’s have in the art that inspired the line.
Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO
Past that, Sanji’s detail is overall well done here. The feather boa looks great for a figure of this size (6″) and the various adornments are well painted and easily identifiable.
Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO
The spot on his back above is some dust I missed, not a paint defect. The figure didn’t seem to really have any paint defects, which is nice to see!
Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO
Sanji’s cigarette, however, is less than impressive. It looks like a piece of chalk, or a candy cigarette. A little coloring on the end would have made it a little less cartoony, but it’s not really the biggest deal. The piece doesn’t take away from the whole figure.
Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO
The wrinkles in the gloves are fantastic; they really impressed me!
Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO
His bracelets are mostly painted well, the only reason they look a little off in some places here is because I used a macro lens and got in their face. Considering how small the figure is, they look good.
I had fun with my new macro lens for my phone’s camera. You can purchase it here if you’re interested — it was very cheap and comes with several other lenses and a pouch.
Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO
In case you were curious, his pant pockets are molded so they look sewn, which is also impressive!
OVERALL SCORE: 8/10 – An excellent figure for any fan of the character or Oda’s color spread. The silly cigarette takes a point away, and the strange decision of putting faceplates in other figure’s boxes take a point away as well.
I think this is worth the asking price, definitely. I’m actually VERY happy with the lack of paint defects!
As of this writing, the Sanji 20th Anniversary Figuarts ZERO figure is available to order on Amazon. If you purchase him through that link, I’ll receive a small commission. Thank you so much!
Alternatively, you can purchase him through eBay with this link, but be aware that this figure DOES have bootlegs produced so purchase him from a reputable seller, such as one from Japan or a US seller with clear pictures of the box. If you see no sticker, do not buy! Also note that if the price is too good to be true (well under $40) chances are you’ll be purchasing a fake!

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Minissimo Buying Guide
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Minissimo Buying Guide
Minissimo are cute, somewhat petit figures much in the style of Nendoroids. I wrote about the Josuke Higashikata one quite a while back, and while he did have some problems (namely the value for the price,) he was very cute!
The Minissimo line is produced by Di Molto Bene, the same manufacturer of the Super Action Statue and Statue Legend lines. The first Minissimos released were Josuke Higashikata and Crazy Diamond. As of this writing (December 2017) only Parts 3 and 4 have had characters released! Three characters from Part 4 are still in the prototype stage, and no word has been said of any further releases. I personally hope this line isn’t discontinued, but it has been a while with no news…
EXTRA Note! This line, as far as I am aware, DOES NOT have any bootlegs! This is great news since it makes it easier to safely buy a figure without worrying about poor quality. This may change in the future but this line has been out for quite some time, so you’d think it’d have been bootlegged by now if it was going to be.
While I’m at it with the bold text, let me also throw out a disclaimer that the Amazon and eBay links are affiliate links that provide me a very small commission of off every purchase. This comes to no extra cost to you, but I want to let you know that they do help me out some! Thank you!

MyJapanBox One Piece October 2017 Review
MyJapanBox One Piece October 2017 Review
In keeping up with the subscription box reviews, I’ve decided to pick up one box from a different service once in a while to write about! It’ll keep things interesting here, to say the least.
This month, I went for MyJapanBox. Seeing as how they have an entire One Time Box page, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to pick a box and go for it. Since I recently caught up on the One Piece manga (and since there’s no JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure box) I went for the box featuring goodies from the series.
(Note: If any pictures are JPEGgy, click them to make them bigger and clearer!)
MyJapanBox One Piece October 2017 Review
The box came by DHL, which I’ve never actually used before. It arrived a bit faster than the Skoshbox shipments do, so no complaints there.
The actual box was not anything special — no MyJapanBox logo, no One Piece markings, just a plain box. This wasn’t a problem or anything, but I was so used to Skoshbox and Lootcrate’s loud boxes that I was kind of surprised by this one.
Inside the box, however, were some interesting, and not plain things!
One Piece Wanted Poster Cloth Tote Bag
MyJapanBox One Piece October 2017 Review
This bag is cute! It’s not super big, but it’s big enough for carrying simple necessities or lunch. It doesn’t close at all, so I wouldn’t use it as a purse. I’ll find some use for it though, I’m sure.
The print is all over the front and features the updated Wanted Posters for the Straw Hats. There are some compartments inside, but I didn’t deem it necessary to take a picture.
The bag feels like it’s made of a nice, thick cotton blend and it would probably survive a wash in the washing machine if needed.
Price estimate: $18-25
The bag is on Amazon right now if you’re interested in one, too!
Kanesho Pottery One Piece “Great Ships” Mug
MyJapanBox One Piece October 2017 Review
MyJapanBox One Piece October 2017 Review
This mug is hefty! It’s heavier than most of the mugs I already own, which is pretty impressive. The Straw Hats Skull and Crossbones is engraved into the ceramic with an interestingly rough kind of feel. It’s cool, and I think it’ll last a while without chipping or fading.
Price estimate: $20
I actually found this same mug on Amazon without even intending to. (I was looking up a different mug and the seller had this one as well.)
Pocket Tissue Pack
MyJapanBox One Piece October 2017 Review
I’m assuming this is a little freebie, but it’s cute anyway. The front is shown on the main image of this post, but if you don’t feel like scrolling back up it has Law, Luffy, and Sabo. The tissues themselves appear to have a cute pattern on them, but I didn’t open the pack to find out. These will go nicely in my purse!
Price estimate: Who knows, it’s just a little tissue pack!
Trafalgar Law Master Stars Piece Figure
Here’s the ‘star’ of the box! (I didn’t do that on purpose, I swear.) The slightly taller than 10″ Trafalgar Law Master Stars Piece figure is impressively detailed and pretty hefty.
MyJapanBox One Piece October 2017 Review
He comes with his sword, his upper and lower half, and his sword’s hilt and its top piece. When assembled (which was easy to do) he looks like this:
MyJapanBox One Piece October 2017 Review
Pretty cool, huh? Law isn’t my favorite character, but I do like him. I’m glad I received a figure of a character I like and not a really minor villain or something.
MyJapanBox One Piece October 2017 Review
The only downside to this guy is the lack of a stand. He doesn’t even have a tiny prize figure stand, or anything like that. Since he’s fairly heavy, he can and will fall over, so leaning him against something is advised. As you can see, I had to use his box for support for these pictures.
MyJapanBox One Piece October 2017 Review
The plastic used for him isn’t as shiny as the type used for most prize figures I’ve encountered, which is a plus. I think the Master Stars Piece line is very high quality for what it is, based off of Law here, and I’d be glad to pick up any others I really like the look of.
He’s available on Amazon!
Price estimate: $25-$30
Rose and Black Tea KitKats
I didn’t take any pictures of this, because I am pretty sure they were a freebie unrelated to the box’s theme. I found out that these were rose and black tea flavored and they were pretty nice, but melted into oblivion by the time I received them. Oh well!
FINAL VERDICT: This box was a good deal and a fun little selection of One Piece merchandise! I liked everything in it, and I would consider a monthly subscription if I didn’t have too much anime stuff already. 😛 The Law figure was definitely the star of the box, but the mug and bag were very nice too!
Check out MyJapanBox’s One Piece page if you’re interested in trying out a subscription for yourself. It’s $49 a month for the basic box, which is what I received, if you pay monthly. If you’d like to purchase just one box, the cost is $55 and you can order one on the One Time Box page here.
Do you run a subscription box service? Would you like me to review one of them? I am always very glad to try out new boxes and tell the world about them! Please don’t hesitate to check out my About Me page and send me a message!

Skoshbox Review: October 2017
Skoshbox Review: October 2017
Even though it arrived a bit later than usual, October’s Skoshbox was packed with full sized snacks! The info page was no longer the main one on the website, but luckily October’s was archived and still available to view. Honestly, I don’t really like how early Skoshbox posts the box’s contents — November’s hasn’t even shipped out yet and they’re already announcing what’s inside! Takes away from the surprise. Plus, some customers won’t receive their box in time for the page to still be on the current month. I’m on the east coast and packages from Japan like to take their time getting to me sometimes. 🙁
Anyway, that’s enough talk about delivery times and Skoshbox’s website. Let’s move on to the actual review for October 2017’s box!
Gogo no Koucha Lemon Tea Cookie
Skoshbox Review October 2017
These are sandwich cookies, kind of like Oreo’s but more refined. It’s hard to read on the box in the picture since I opened it, but there’s a cute little message:
“Afternoon tea has been drunk by the English ever since the custom was first started by the Duchess of Bedford in the mid 19th century.”
Educational! I don’t know if this is accurate or not, as I didn’t research it but it sounds right? Either way, it’s funny to see on the front of the box.
The cookies themselves are as you’d expect, but that’s not a problem. The cookie part (I should be saying biscuit, actually) is a shortbread type, not too crunchy nor too soft. They have a lemon flavor, as does the cream in between. The lemon flavor isn’t too strong, despite the two sources. I enjoyed these a lot.
Rating: 5/5
Scone Sour Cream Onion Flavor
Skoshbox Review October 2017
I didn’t know what to expect from these before I tried them, but when I opened the pack I noticed that they look just like crunchy Cheetos.
Sure enough, they taste like them too! I don’t even know if Japan imports Cheetos from the United States at all (they probably do, a little bit) but these taste just like Cheetos without the cheese powder. The flavor on them is much like a standard Sour Cream and Onion chip, which surprisingly goes well with the Cheeto puff.
These are very nice, and they kind of make me wish Cheetos had a Sour Cream and Onion variety.
Rating: 5/5
Hi-Chew Seasonal Okayama White Peach
Skoshbox Review October 2017
Hi-chew. We all know what they are by now, since they’re really popular in Japan. I’ve received them quite a few times in Skoshboxes, too, and I’m always pretty happy to see them.
These are white peach flavored, and even though I’ve never had a white peach I can imagine they’re quite similar to regular peaches. (Google tells me they’re sweeter. This candy is sweet, so I suppose that makes sense.)
These chews are sweet peach flavored. I can’t really verify if they’re white peach flavored due to my lack of experience with them, but they’re good. I like them; they have the standard chewy texture Hi-chew is known for, so there’s not much else to say.
Rating: 5/5
Mochitto Purin
Skoshbox Review October 2017
This is a flan flavored mochi gummy. The texture is really soft and kind of unpleasant, honestly.
It’s a shame because sometimes I love mochi inspired treats, but other times they’re just too mushy for me. This was, unfortunately one of those times.
The taste is fine, it is reminiscent of flan and vanilla, but the texture is so soft! I could have popped them in the refrigerator but I wanted to try them as intended.
Rating: 1/5
Chisana Bakauke Nori Flavor
Skoshbox Review October 2017
This is a simple rice cracker flavored with Nori (seaweed). They have a strong soy sauce taste to them as well, but it works with the seaweed.
The texture is crispy, but not too heavy. I liked these, but there isn’t a whole lot to say about them.
Rating: 5/5
Happy Nikukyu Gummies Grape Flavor
Skoshbox Review October 2017
These are adorable little gummies shaped like cat’s paws. I love how they look; I love the bag, I love the fat kitty on the bag, I love how each paw is well formed, but….
The taste is really strong. Like, I’ve received quite a few grape flavored candies through the years via Skoshbox but none were quite as strong as these, and they also didn’t seem to have as much of a medicinal note to them as these do.
I’m not going to lie, I was disappointed in these little gummies due to how cute they were! Though, I do wonder if they came in other flavors, if they’d be nicer.
Rating: 2.5/5
Verdict for October 2017: EXCELLENT! I didn’t particularly love the Happy Nikukyu gummies or the Mochitto Purin, but everything else was amazing so the box still gets an excellent rating from me. 🙂 I really appreciated the large portion sizes!
Check out Skoshbox’s page if you’re interested in trying out a subscription for yourself. It’s $12 a month for the basic box, which I receive, if you pay monthly.

Anime Figure Review: Sabo Variable Action Heroes
Anime Figure Review: Sabo Variable Action Heroes
As stated previously, I’ve somewhat recently gotten into One Piece, and I’m trying to obtain figures of characters I liked while reading the manga. While I like the Straw Hat crew, I found myself intrigued by Luffy’s sworn brother, Sabo. If anything, Sabo’s outfit and aesthetic are very interesting, and translate to figure sculpts well!
After poking around the internet (mainly MyFigureCollection, Mandarake, and eBay) I decided to pass on the Portrait of Pirates Sailing Again Sabo due to his inflated cost, especially in comparison to the Robin and Zoro from that line. (Zoro is more expensive than Robin, but not as bad as Sabo.) My second choice for this character was the Variable Action Heroes variety, which I assumed was like the Figma or SH Figuarts lines.
Sabo Variable Action Heroes Review
Upon first glance, the box is quite impressive. I personally like it more than Figma boxes, which are somewhat bland, even if intentional.
The other sides of the box were just as bright and busy as the front, with various poses you can put the figure in strewn around the back.
Sabo Variable Action Heroes Review
Inside of the box are various accessories, extra hands, and an extra face plate. The accessories all look as they should, and the pipe in particular really stands out as one of the best accessories included. The little dents all over it make it look as if it was really in a few fights! (I like the simple backdrop with Sabo’s emblem as well.)
Sabo Variable Action Heroes Review
Sabo Variable Action Heroes Review
Unfortunately, the goggles on the hat had a tiny speck of extra paint on the lens, which was disappointing to me. I figured I might be able to scrape it off if I deem it necessary, but it might cause more damage to the plastic if I do that.
Sabo Variable Action Heroes Review
Sabo himself also had extra paint on his neck of all places. This paint is a lot more noticeable and a lot more disappointing. I could potentially Magic Eraser it off, but it could cause more damage like the goggles. Since I bought this figure from a third party seller and not a store like Amiami, I probably couldn’t contact Megahouse about it. Honestly, it’s probably not worth all of the hassle either, but it’s disappointing to see lacking quality control on a somewhat pricey figure.
Sabo Variable Action Heroes Review
Anyway, the other accessories look great. The Flame-Flame fruit has no flaws I can see, and the flames themselves seem to appear as lively as they could for plastic fire. Aside from the paint speck, the hat and goggles are true to the manga, and the extra hands are well sculpted and fit into place relatively securely.
Sabo Variable Action Heroes Review
Sabo Variable Action Heroes Review
Posing Sabo seems to be no issue. I was able to change his hands easily, and while his face plate posed some difficulty, it was far easier than Di Molto Bene’s Minissimo line. Unfortunately (yes, again) his hair line for his hat has a small gap when closed, and it shouldn’t. I couldn’t push the pieces together any more than this, and I didn’t want to force them.
Sabo Variable Action Heroes Review
The Variable Action Heroes line does not come with stands, which is something I knew prior to ordering Sabo. Unfortunately, the price point for the figures doesn’t really reflect the lack of a stand, in my opinion, since the official stand produced by Megahouse costs anywhere from $12-$20 on Amazon. Without a stand, Sabo doesn’t like to stay up, and the SHFiguarts stands weren’t strong enough for his weight. (Either that or he was just refusing to cooperate with Sailor Venus’ stand! He is about an inch taller than she is, to be fair.) I ended up purchasing an official one through a different seller, but it didn’t arrive in time for this review. I’m sure it will work fine, though.
VERDICT: I like this figure a lot, but the inconsistent quality control on my particular Sabo and the price point of almost $20 more than a Figma (with no stand) convinces me to only purchase these figures on sale, if I can. The posing is fine, the sculpt is great, but the problems that are there shouldn’t be, and that really hurts the pros of the figure.
Did you enjoy my review? Are you interested in purchasing this figure? Amazon has Sabo listed currently. If you order him through that link, I’ll receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. 🙂 Thank you!

Skoshbox Review: September 2017
Skoshbox Review: September 2017
This month’s box arrived pretty much intact, and everything inside was safe and sound, thanks to the bag containing it all. (It’s a nice bag! Nicer than most grocery store’s bags around here, honestly.)
The bag was stuffed with six snacks and a bonus plush that I’ll talk about at the end of this post. Sadly, the little booklet containing information about what’s inside was gone and I was directed to their website, where the page had completely different snacks listed than what I received. My guess is that the list is of October’s box, which hasn’t shipped yet and was just pushed to be published too early. I don’t know for sure, though.
Since the website didn’t list the correct items, I had to research and find the snacks’ names and information on my own, which took some time. Unfortunately, I couldn’t seem to find many of the snacks on Tokyo Otaku Mode’s site to purchase directly, either. (I imagine it’s due to the shift over to snacks coming directly from Japan, as their site does say.)
On to the review…!
Cheese Kaki No Tane
Skoshbox Review: September 2017 Cheese Kaki No Tane
First up are some cheese coated soy sauce crackers. I was hoping the cheese coating would be strong, but unfortunately it was very mild. The soy sauce flavor was strong, though, making the crackers pleasant after all. So, even though they weren’t what I expected, they were still nice. If you like soy sauce flavor, you’ll probably like these. (Unless you’re really sensitive to cheese, then perhaps not.)

Seibutsu Zukan Sea Creature Gummies
Skoshbox Review: September 2017 Seibutsu Zukan Sea Creature Gummies
These gummies kind of frightened me at first, especially since I had no information about them when I opened up the box. I thought the squid on the package meant these were squid ink gummies and I really didn’t want to try them…
I would have though, if they were, for the sake of the review. I have to try everything at least a little bit!
Luckily, these gummies were just shaped like sea creatures and tasted like sweet stuff. Specifically, the blue ones were Ramune soda flavor, the brown were cola, and the yellow one was something sweet I couldn’t identify. All three flavors were tasty and the consistency of the gummies were very sticky, but not in an unpleasant way.
Skoshbox Review: September 2017 Seibutsu Zukan Sea Creature Gummies
The shapes were SUPER cute, though, especially the whale!
Also included was a neat little fact card that I think was about a King Crab. Other cards in other boxes were most likely different, but of a sea creature nonetheless.
Rating: 5/5
Kyo-Machi Saryo
Skoshbox Review: September 2017 Kyo-Machi Saryo
These were milky hard candies in three flavors: strawberry, matcha (green tea) and soy/honey. The matcha was not quite as strong as it is in candy sometimes, which was a plus for me since I personally get overwhelmed by it when it’s super potent.
The strawberry was sweet and pleasant, as expected.
The soy and honey candy was the best out of the bunch, surprising me with a flavor reminiscent of pancakes and maple syrup! I really liked this one, even if the flavor didn’t match the name.
Rating: 5/5
Karu Edamame: Edamame Flavor
Skoshbox Review: September 2017 Karu Edamame: Edamame Flavor
This was probably one of the simpler snacks in the box — a basic edamame cracker stick covered in a salty and umami flavor. The sticks tasted like the bean and the coating added to the notes, making the snack taste and feel kind of healthy, in a way. I can’t really describe it any other way.
These were definitely enjoyable, but only if you enjoy the flavor of edamame.
Rating: 5/5
Hinyari Dango
Skoshbox Review: September 2017 Hinyari Dango
These are sweet gummy spheres that look like dumplings. Dango is apparently a type of sweet dumpling in Japan.
Unfortunately, even though there were three of them in different colors, they all tasted the same to me. The sugary coating on them was just that, sugar, and the gummy part had little to no flavor. I feel like even if the sugar wasn’t there, the gummies would still be pretty weak.
It’s a shame, since they were really cute!
Rating: 2/5
Mille Feuille Bar
Skoshbox Review: September 2017 Mille Feuille Bar
A mille feuille is a French pastry also known as a Napoleon. I’ve never had one, but they look very nice!
This bar was a replica of that in a more simplified form. The pastry on the top, middle, and bottom was flaky when I tried it (as you can kind of see in the picture there, apologies for the mess) and the custard was sweet. The chocolate on the very bottom was a nice touch, following up the pastry and custard and making the entire bar a delightful little dessert.
I don’t know how accurate of a representation this was to the real thing, but it was very nice nonetheless.
Rating: 5/5
Bonus Plush – Mameshi-Pamyu-Pamyu – Pamyu
Skoshbox Review: September 2017 Mameshi-Pamyu-Pamyu – Pamyu
As a nice little bonus, Skoshbox included a free little plush for everyone this month! At first I had no idea who or what this was, and I had to scrutinize Google translate to figure out something from the tag. I did, finally, discover the name of the plush and who it was based on.
The plush line is called Mameshiba, or bean dog. I thought it kind of looked like a bean! This specific one is called Pamyu Pamyu, based off of a Pop Princess in Japan. I never would have guessed all that on my own, that’s for sure!
I appreciated the cute freebie, though!
Purchase Mameshi Pamyu Pamyu on Otakumode.com
Verdict for September 2017: EXCELLENT! The weakest item was the Dango, but only because it tasted like just sugar. It wasn’t awful by any means. The amount of items in the box was very nice, and the plush was a cute bonus I really appreciated!
Check out Skoshbox’s page if you’re interested in trying out a subscription for yourself. It’s $12 a month for the basic box, which I receive, if you pay monthly.

Anime Figure Review: Zoro POP Sailing Again
Anime Figure Review: Zoro POP Sailing Again
About a year ago, I decided to undertake the daunting task of reading all of One Piece. With the help of my local library system, I was able to quickly read through up to the most recent story arc, of which I now need to wait to borrow any more. That being said, I ended up really enjoying the series!
The figure lines featuring characters from the series span far and wide. Collecting everything is near impossible, and finding older figures sometimes proves pretty daunting. I discovered the Sailing Again line by Megahouse while browsing the internet about 70% through my journey reading the manga, and I decided that was the best line for me to own some figures from.
At the end of the day, I chose Nico Robin and Roronoa Zoro to purchase.
Zoro arrived recently, so I wrote up a review for him.
His box is pretty big, but that’s no surprise since the figure itself is about 9″ tall. The sticker on the top right is in gold since I purchased him directly from a Japanese seller. Licensing stickers are gold in Japan, though I never checked up on why. (Don’t worry if your figure has a silver or red sticker. I believe silver is North America and red is other Asian countries. All legit, unless you purchase him from China, and then there won’t be a sticker.)
Inside of the box, I’m greeted by a somewhat intimidating plastic prison for Zoro and his swords (and extra arm/head). It took me a minute to realize the plastic was secured by two silver twist ties, as well as tape. Zoro was definitely well protected, to say the least!
Included with the base figure are an extra head, four swords, one to go inside of the sheath for the appropriate head, three sheaths, and an extra arm. The base is included as well, though it’s pretty unremarkable and fairly basic.
Zoro looks kind of awkward without any swords! The sculpt for his clothing and skin are impressive, however, and I didn’t see any noticeable paint flaws figures sometimes have from the factory.
His extra head took a little bit of force to fit securely onto his neck, but that’s probably due to the fact that this figure is 5 years old now.
Arranging the swords to go into his hands and mouth was pretty fun to do, though there was a bit of a problem…
Attempting to secure all three sheaths into his sash was very difficult, and I ended up just putting two in there for fear of scuffing the paint.
As you can see in the next few pictures, there’s a bit of space for a third sheath, but I had trouble actually putting it in there.
Zoro still looks great on his stand, holding his swords, despite the minor difficulty. (I think the swords are really impressive, albeit fragile!)
I admittedly forgot to take a picture of the base on its own, but it says Mugiwara Pirates (Straw Hat Pirates) and the figure’s name and line. It’s simple, but does the job.
Nico Robin’s figure unfortunately doesn’t fit onto her base very well, but I didn’t have any problems with Zoro fitting onto his. The pegs were actually lined up with his feet!
All in all, I think this is a very nice scale figure for Zoro. It’s not perfect, but it’s an accurate representation of the character and it’s sculpted and painted well. Considering that this came out in 2012, finding one for a decent price isn’t too difficult nowadays so if you like the character I would suggest you consider picking this up!
Did you enjoy my review? Are you interested in purchasing this figure? Amazon currently has Roronoa Zoro: Portrait of Pirates Sailing Again listed for a reasonable price! (It’s about what I ended up paying.) If you order him through that link, I’ll receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. 🙂 Thank you!
