people ignoring how detrimental 2016 was for taylor swift’s mental health—or, worse, denying it ever happened and saying that she’s “overdramatic”—is just rewriting history. a nude depiction of her body is still up on youtube, in a song that calls her a bitch and says he could still have sex with her. crowds—mostly made up of misogynistic men—were SCREAMING these lyrics at concerts because she “deserved it” for lying about giving consent. there was a mural of her dedicated to her “death” that people would bring flowers to. none of us can understand how horrifying that is.

for a long time, she was labeled a liar, a snake, a bitch. her comments were flooded with snake emojis, people in the entertainment industry were constantly switching up on her so she felt she couldn’t trust anyone, and guess what? she never fucking lied.

the criticism of “cancel culture” is frustrating in the context where people are just mad for being held accountable for bigoted or problematic behavior, but taylor swift was not “cancelled” for legitimate wrongdoing and to the point in which she disappeared for a year.

“reputation” is considered one of the best comebacks in pop culture because the general public detested her. i couldn’t bring her or her music up in conversation without people telling me how much they hate her. rep would not have been as shocking as it was if she was always universally beloved.

this “she can’t ever be a victim because she’s always had money!” mentality is so fucking stupid. being a teenage girl under the limelight and under the double standards of patriarchy, facing sex shaming, being groomed, traumatized, and arguably emotionally neglected by a 31 year old man when she was 19, fighting an eating disorder and suicidal ideation, being sexually assaulted but dismissed because she wasn’t assaulted “enough,” and then being “cancelled” over a phone call SUCKS. like holy shit

she’s still a person! all of these things have shaped her! finances don’t cancel out mental illness, trauma, and heartbreak! shocking!

lend her the complexity and grace you all give to male artists bc these thinkpieces calling her vapid and stupid and undermining her personal struggles and accomplishments are just ridiculous (and, dare i say it—misogynistic).

adults are always talking about how “kids will do anything to get out of school” and okay, first of all that’s not true, but I think we really need to ask why that idea holds so much sway.

children’s brains are hard-wired to take in new information and acquire new skills. consider, for a moment, just how thoroughly our society had to fuck up the concept of education for it to be a normal thing to assume kids are universally desperate to avoid learning.

The probe has been sending gibberish science data back to Earth, and scientists feared it was just the probe finally dying. You know, after working for 50 GODDAMN YEARS and LEAVING THE GODDAMN SOLAR SYSTEM and STILL CHURNING OUT GODDAMN DATA.

So they analyzed the gibberish and realized that in it was a total readout of EVERYTHING ON THE PROBE. Data, the programming, hardware specs and status, everything. They realized that one of the chips was malfunctioning.

So what do you do when your probe is 22 Billion km away and needs a fix? Why, you just REPROGRAM THAT ENTIRE GODDAMN THING. Told it to avoid the bad chip, store the data elsewhere.

Sent the new code on April 18th. Got a response on April 20th - yeah, it's so far away that it took that long just to transmit.

And the probe is working again.

From a programmer's perspective, that may be the most fucking impressive thing I have ever heard.

She’s barely in Neverland for a couple minutes before Tinkerbell tricks the Lost Boys into trying to kill her (which apparently weakens her ability to fly since before that she could soar and glide whereas afterwards she has to constantly flap her arms), she’s so excited to meet the mermaids only for them to immediately assault her while Peter laughs at her obvious distress, she tries to defend herself and only THEN does Peter intervene to stop her (even though the mermaids literally admit to him that they were trying to drown Wendy), she can’t even speak up for herself because Hook shows up right at that moment and Peter shushes her, then after they save Tiger Lily Peter completely forgets about Wendy and then she’s put to work at the Indian village while all the boys get to dance and have fun even though she’s just as much of a guest in the village as they are. Is it any wonder she gets depressed after this and just wants to go home?

And like, what is the point of all of this? You would think this was to show that Wendy has outgrown Neverland, since every part of it seems to be rejecting her, and she really is ready to grow up, but then the movie ends with Mr. Darling changing his mind about Wendy having to move out of the nursery and that’s portrayed as the right decision. It’s so weird.

I think the problem with Taylor antis (and even reluctant Taylor fans who view her as fundamentally uncool and stupid and cringey despite liking some of her music) is that they will read everything she writes with the worst possible faith, which they would never apply to another artist. So it’s no surprise that they’re struggling with her least accessible, least people-pleasing album to date. Lmao.

cassandra is so heartbreaking because in my mind taylor’s talking about being framed and torched relentlessly for something she didn’t do (lying on that phone call). there was so much outrage around her alleged crimes but then when the truth (the full phone call) came out years later, no one cared and the damage had already been done. people were so quick to jump on a massive hate train but didn’t care about the truth because it wasn’t as exciting to them

i feel like a lot of the 'i hate kids' crowd would be more tolerant if they understood that due to a kid's limited experience of the world that 4 hour flight might just be the longest they've ever had to sit still for or that trapped finger might literally be the most pain they've ever felt in their short life or they might not have ever seen a person with pink hair ever so of course they want to touch it or nobody's told them yet that they can't run around the museum and they only just learned cheetahs are the fastest animals so of course they want to put that to the test. how were they supposed to know etc etc.
