I need to create this composition on black background, but my sketchbook is to small. However first I wasn’t thinking about stripped backgrounds and I didn’t turn over my working board. However these yellow stripes are giving a bit of kick.

I think so far this one is my favourite photo collage created today. It might need more police around. Will have to cut out more of those silly boys.

Strike For Climate This Friday!

It's a rare serious post from me today - I want to ask everyone who possibly can to strike from school or work on Friday 20th September and join a local climate protest! It's happening globally, so there should be something going down near you.

What’s Happening?

Despite this @extinction-rebellion graphic I used (it was the clearest I could find), the climate strike is actually organized by YouthStrike4Climate - think Greta Thunberg. 

Schoolchildren and students are partaking in a #FridaysForFuture strike this Friday, and non-students and workers of all ages are invited to join them. The idea is to stop ‘business as usual’ for just one afternoon; leave school or work at lunchtime (or take the whole day off) and join the other strikers for a sit-out or a march to support climate action.

How Can I Help?

By striking! But I am aware (and so are YouthStrike and XR) that not everyone is in a postition to strike without risking innocent lives - doctors need to treat their patients, parents can’t risk being fired when they have mouths to feed etc - so here are some other ways you can join in, courtesy of XR on Insta:

1. Formally propose a strike (you can find a letter template on XR’s insta) at your workplace

2. Use a day of annual leave or a sick day to strike

3. Join a sit-out on your lunch break (or just bring the protestors fries lol)

4. Post images, footage, or just information about the strikes on your social media

5. Share this information in the run-up to the strike so people who can strike know to do so. 

6. If you have more money than time, you can donate to Extinction Rebellion or your favourite climate charity.

Probably! Find your local Extinction Rebellion group (their Instagram has links in highlights to help you) or your Youth Strike group. Search facebook for events, too.

Another set of photo collages created today. Still looking for inspirations and ideas. Sometimes just playing with cuts. Finding this really relaxing and very enjoyable. I need more materials to play with! At the moment I’m using only photos taken at the demos. No cuts from newspapers or added illustrations. This staff could distract the viewer (?) - I may try to add other staff and see if it is working. I was thinking to add more visual symbolic content will have to do some reading research. But at some point I would like to keep things simple but still creative.

These are the contact sheets of chosen photos to be print and cut. As I really enjoyed making collages last time I need more materials to play with it. At the moment there is two ideas in my mind. Both of them seems promising so I will have a another go next week with added material.

Choosing images is time consuming as I have thousands photos from demonstrations this year. But from the other side it is very interesting to come back to the images and have a freshly look at them! Sometimes I picked up the image which I didn’t like it before, sometimes I know this image is going into project.

This is not all images, there is more to come. Over the next week I’m hoping to go through all demonstrations and print more images. Then during the process of making/exploring I shall see if I do need still any particular images. There is another Youth Strike on 29th of November. So I will still have a chance to shoot youths on the streets.

Hoping that tomorrow printing will go smooth with no paper jam etc.

Another photo collages created today! Just wanted to see how visually all works together. The possibilities is thousands.

Over this year I shoot over twenty demonstrations, on each I took on average eight hundred images, I’m not short of material, definitely!!! This trial images are the first to be chosen and print. Over the weekend I should be able to have time and choose more images.

I would like to focus on particular protests Youth Strikes for Future. They have been organised every month since February 2019, there is another one coming up on the 29th of November. I will be going and probably shooting missing elements for the photo collage project.
