Anyone else think short form social media based on algorithms designed to promote topics that create more engagement instead of more joy, the idea of fast fashion but conveyed through social media, and the fact you can monetize suffering and outrage better than ever has largely resulted in the death spiral of media literacy and the mass emergence of bad faith readings?

#I may be venting a lil but god it blows my mind #fyp is a blessing and a curse because i don't think ppl were ever meant to be subjected to this many ppl at once #god i took a bird site hiatus for weeks and now BARELY check it and it already feels like a hit #oughhhhh #even fandom spaces have hugely incorporated marketing and networking into them bc of cmms and sponsorship and building portfolio #which would be fine tbh if it weren't for the way socmed is designed #now it's like you can't support too many ppl or else you're shadow banned or you have to make yourself palatable and marketable #and websites with threads in which people will only read the first post before qrting because ratios are seen as five minutes of fame #features that permit beating an algorithm are locked behind a paywall that promises you money if you go viral #and what goes viral is usually incendiary content meant for those ratios or trends. whether for or against OP #even in hobbyist spaces the climate has changed so much due to the monetization and marketing and just. ugh #not to mention side accounts dedicated to gossip in this new priv account culture like...idk #if you have to make another account so you can make fun of a friend on main with selected priv friends it just doesn't sit well with me #and not every priv account does this but enough do and it makes me tired #unsolicited hate comments are still as bad as they used to be on ff dot net except now people openly are proud of it more #why do most socmed feel like passive aggressive sticky notes on high school lockers #there is so much more I could say about everything that has left me weary about the internet but I don't know the time or place #and I don't want anyone to think this is about them because it's a general statement. though if you are doing the more inflammatory things.#maybe rethink that. it's not good for anyone else and it's not good for you either #I keep coming back online to check on ppl and see art and I *know* it's draining for my health every time #but I feel a lot better now that i use socmed less overall. and that I try to focus on what makes me happy #it just sucks seeing so many people i care about endure absolutely wild struggles bc people online do not care.#I like rambling in my tags because this is the only place I ramble except my personal journal and to my wife

#There is so much political intrigue in the bible lol #I was reading through 1 kings today as part of a separate thing and I got to the part where david dies #or is about to die #which is. technically. the first chapter *waves hand* but still #so anyways #he's about to die and then nathan (prophet) goes to Solomon's mom and he's like 'hey uh don't freak out but david's son adonijah is trying #to claim the throne that was promised to your son. no yeah he's literally like. he's literally doing it right now 🤪'#and she's like ??? omg ?#and he's like 'no it's fine it's ok here's what we're going to do you're gonna go to king david and you're gonna be like 'i thought you #promised the crown to my son solomon :(' and then i'm gonna come behind you and be like 'hey did you change your mind about solomon #becoming king or what?' and then david will fulfill the oath he made before god'#and so bathsheba and nathan enact their little plan and david is like 'uh no i did not change my mind IN FACT. while adonijah is throwing #himself a banquet to celebrate his victory you guys are going to go to gihon and anoint solomon as king right Now'#so nathan et al go to gihon and anoint solomon king and the nation at large is ecstatic about it and they blow a trumpet announcing his #like. his. idk. not election but you know what i mean #so anyways MEANWHILE. adonijah is chilling at his banquet finishing up his feast with his party guests and he hears the trumpet and he's #like huh wonder wot's all this then and then some guy named jonathan comes in at the moment and adonijah is like 'hey buddy :) let's hear #some good news on this Day that i have become king :)'#and jonathan is like 'yeah.....sorry to crash the party but uh. solomon is king now. yikes'#and everyone at adonijah's party is freaked out so they SCATTER and adonijah is like 'oh sh*t solomon is going to kill me'#so he goes to the king like 'hey sorry about the whole *waves hand* usurping thing. haha. anyways can u please swear not to kill me'#and solomon is like '😐 bffr. but yk? alright. if you act right i won't have to but if there's any evil in you? you're outta here bruv''#and so adonijah is like 'ykw? say less' and submits to solomon's kingship and that's the end of chapter one but anyways. the lyrics remind me really heavily of kitty's relationship with her sister, with how the song is about a woman urging the narrator essentially stop being so useless and do something meaningful with their life in a cruel tone ('she tells me / you'll always be a child / you'll never grow up / and me, i'm already old'), berating them. the rest of the song is similar (i won't quote the entire thing, but i very much could) - 'she tells me, "yes, one day you'll kill me," and it's when she tells me this that she tells me something i like' and 'she tells me "it's your life, do what you want - one day you'll understand, one day you'll kick yourself.' it just reminds me a lot of kitty, and it has a very similar upbeat pop vibe to grace kelly, which i think kitty would also love
