The prompt for the fourth day of the Shishitsu Week 2024 that will take place in March is “Actor AU”.
Tumblr media
As soon as Yokoyama watched the "Nihon Touitsu" movies while he was writing Gaiden, he inmediately thought of Yamaguchi Yoshiyuki as Tsuruno and Motomiya Yasukaze as Shishido.

SORRY SEEING HITOSHI OZAWA REMINDED ME pleeeeeeease please please please if you never take any of my recs again (<- being dramatic) PLEASE watch The Clan's Heir is a Trans Woman at some point... it is, as the title says, about a trans woman who's the successor to a yakuza family... it's got overwhelmingly positive reviews and it IS fucking incredible I'm not over it...
But Here's Why It's Worth A Watch Specifically As An RGG Fan:
Written and directed by Ozawa (he killed it on both counts)
Stars multiple RGG FCs (listing with who they played for convenience): Obviously Ozawa himself (Kuze in Y0), Hideo Nakano (Shibusawa in Y0), Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi (Tsuruno in Gaiden), and Yasukaze Motomiya (Shishido in Gaiden)
According to Motomiya, this basically came about as a bunch of trans-positive actors getting together to support Ozawa's project. For me that was a big deal because pretty much the entire cast is incredibly prolific in V-Cinema (direct-to-video action movies; I think direct-to-video has a negative connotation in the West but I don't think that's the case in Japan). Half the OG and Neo V-Cine Four Kings star in this movie, and all of them have starred in RGG at this point, so if nothing else I was pleasantly surprised to not have to disavow several of my favorite actors for this movie...
Also in the same article as Motomiya's comment, Nakano (who plays a detective) said he wished he got to play a trans woman so he "wouldn't have to craft a role." OK queen <3
Tonally just very RGG with how it blends spectacle and comedy and hard-hitting drama sometimes back-to-back... some of the themes and writing choices definitely struck me as RGG as well despite this coming out before Ozawa's involvement... lmao... I thiiiiink there's also a pretty overt reference in the climactic scene to Kiryu's iconic Step The Fuck Up line to look forward to :)
The Cartoonishly Bigoted Villain played by Motomiya kept reminding me of Mine and Aoki for some reason?? Maybe it was his Mine-stache and costuming and how lame his lines are. Maybe it was the way he runs his clan. Anyway it was funny To Me because I HC both of them as trans
Many opportunities to hallucinate about transfem Arakawa!
That is all... I rest my case... I will say obviously transphobia and homophobia (on the part of the characters) are Constants 'cause a lot of it's about portraying bigotry and acceptance on an individual level + the subs kinda go overboard on the slurs... so I can get if it'd be tiring or something... but yeah... good movie...
You had me at Simply Recommending Something LMAO DONT WORRY ill check it when i can :]

Gematsu Source
Tumblr media
Publisher SEGA and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have released new information and screenshots on the story, characters, and organizations of Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
Get the details below, via the official website.
■ Story
What must you sacrifice to protect the ones you love?
A former legend in the yakuza world, Kazuma Kiryu fakes his death in order to protect his loved ones.
Having become an agent for the Daidoji Faction and assigned the codename “Joryu,” Kiryu hunts down an illegal gold smuggling site in the Port of Yokohama. It was supposed to be an easy assignment; little more than loose change for the organization. When he arrives, he finds several dozen Daidoji agents on standby. Despite having reached the rank of chairman within the Tojo Clan, Kiryu has maintained a relatively low profile among his peers here. Unable to resist their provocation, he ends up violently lashing out, which only widens the gaping hole inside him.
However, at that very moment, a mysterious group shows up.
The deal had gone sour. No outsider should have known about it. And amid the chaos and confusion, the shady group seems to recognize Kiryu. They mustn’t be allowed to vanish into the shadows.
Though he had severed all ties to his past, Kazuma Kiryu finds himself stepping into the maelstrom of the underworld once more…

A former legendary yakuza who has erased his past and name.
Tumblr media

He also ran the Morning Glory Orphanage in Okinawa for a time. However, all traces of his past life have been buried away, and he intends to keep it that way. Forever cut off from his children at the orphanage, Kiryu aimlessly fills the void with missions from the Daidoji Faction.
Kosei Shishido (portrayed by Yasukaze Motomiya)

Tumblr media
The Watase Family is the most powerful group within the Omi Alliance and is led by Masaru Watase, who is next-in-line to become chairman of the alliance.
A capable lieutenant within the family, Shishido wields deadly weapons without any regard for his victims’ lives. He commands authority through terror and intimidation.
Yuki Tsuruno (portrayed by Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi)
“There’s no use playing dumb. I just get the job done—no questions asked!”
A yakuza sworn to the Watase Family.
Tumblr media

Akame (portrayed by First Summer Uika)
“The truth is, yer nothin’ on yer own.”
A shadowy figure who knows the ins and outs of Sotenbori.
Tumblr media

Homare Nishitani III (portrayed by Kim Jaeuck)
“That ain’t your real name, am I right? …Aren’t you s’posed to be dead?”
Third patriarch of the Kijin Clan, a direct subsidiary of the Omi Alliance.
Tumblr media
Nishitani is a young yakuza who quickly rose up through the ranks and took over as head of the Kijin Clan. His dashing looks betray the madness swirling beneath. He loves nothing more than to put his life on the line in a fight to the death. Within the Omi Alliance, Nishitani is an immensely influential figure on par with Watase.
Kihei Hanawa (portrayed by Hiroki Tochi)
“Your next job just came in. For codename Joryu, of course.”
Leader of the Daidoji Faction.

The following came from tweets by Jeffrey Hall Asahi TV interviews a man who spent thirty years as a member of the Abe koenkai (local supporter group) in Yamaguchi prefecture. He details the years of support Abe Shinzo received from the local branch of the Unification Church: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nsVfvK0RjA A few details: the Unification Church actually had a branch next door to Abe's office, Church members/leaders would visit the office and also volunteer during elections. Abe's relationship with the Church became closer after the LDP was driven out of power in 2009.
Tumblr media
The report also suggests that Abe may have been directly responsible for communicating with the Unification Church to make sure their votes went to specific LDP Upper House candidates: Kitamura Tsuneo in 2013 and 2019, Miyajima Yoshifumi in 2016, and Inoue Yoshiyuki in 2022.
Tumblr media
In a twist from the usual style of interviews with former church members, ANN featured a Vtuber in this report. "Devil" (@9999DEVIL6666 on twitter) speaks about how her mother donated almost all of their family's income to the church, making them unable to afford college tuition.
