Step One: Make an Observation
Recently, Remus had been noticing his boyfriend acting more dog-like than usual.
Sure, Sirius had always shared certain traits with the canine species, but ever since becoming an animagus, those traits had been…amplified, so to speak.
Step Two: Define a Question to Investigate
His observations had led him to one question: did becoming an animagus cause a person to develop behaviors common to their animal form?
Step Three: Form a Hypothesis
Because Remus did not know much about stags and was frankly a tad disgusted by rats despite growing up on a farm, he was left with only one test subject, thus the prediction:
If Sirius were presented with the opportunity, he would act in a way similar to a large dog, specifically one bred for guarding and herding.
Step Four: Test the Hypothesis
Of course, Remus had to experiment with his findings.
The first trial took place on a lazy Sunday morning. Sirius had been jittery and restless, but for Remus, it was the perfect opportunity.
“Hey, Pads, do you want to go for a walk?” Remus asked innocently.
The effect was instant. The second Remus uttered the word walk, the black-haired boy’s head popped out from under the blankets where he had been sucking a line of hickeys up Remus’ abdomen. “Did you say walk?”
Remus bit his lip to keep from laughing. “Yeah, baby, that’s exactly what I said.”
He jumped up and ran to the door. “Let’s go!”
So far so good.
-
The second trial was less a trial and more an accidental observation.
Remus and Lily were just entering Gryffindor Tower after prefect rounds when Sirius came crashing into him, practically squealing with joy. “You were gone so long! I missed you!”
Remus spit out a mouthful of wavy black hair. “We were barely gone an hour, Pads.”
Sirius just buried his head in his boyfriend’s neck. “I still missed you.”
Observations were positive.
-
The third trial ended up being more a set of trials, but all were necessary. Absolutely necessary.
It started when Remus’ wand fell out of his pocket three times in two minutes because of a small hole he hadn’t known about. Each time, Sirius bent down to pick it up, even when it rolled almost all the way down to Hagrid’s hut. As Sirius was a perfectly attentive boyfriend before he became an animagus, it wasn’t enough to prove anything, but it was enough for more thorough exploration.
The second part took place in Potions when the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw fifth years were brewing Amortentia.
“Shit, I’m out of pearl dust,” Remus muttered, moving to stand from his desk.
Sirius put out a hand and rose to his feet. “I’ll get it for you.”
A minute later, the young Black walked back from Slughorn’s storeroom with enough pearl dust to power 300 love potions, and Remus was thrilled.
The third part, Remus purposefully instituted himself.
The four marauders were sitting near the Great Lake relaxing on a Saturday afternoon when Remus picked up a stick and threw it about 10 meters away. Immediately, Sirius, who had been resting on Remus’ lap in human form, shifted to his dog self and took off like a shot toward the stick only to come back trotting with the little piece of wood clutched between his teeth.
Next, Remus threw it about 30 meters away, and the same thing happened.
Then, he threw it in the Great Lake. Sirius jumped in after it like a fish in its natural habitat.
James and Peter didn’t even look up.
Really, Remus could have called the experiment at this point, but he decided this trial wasn’t quite good enough for him.
-
The fourth trial tested Sirius’ herding skills.
Because Padfoot was so big and Remus had yet to determine what breed he was, the werewolf assumed there had to be some type of herding dog in there.
Thus, trial number four.
The fifth year Gryffindors were walking back from Hogsmeade when Peter and Mary started to lag behind, and, when Remus pointed this out, Sirius slowed down until they caught up to the group.
Then, James and Marlene stopped to look at a strange beetle to determine if it was just a weird normal bug or a beefed up chunky magic bug, and Sirius circled back to hurry them along the path.
Finally, and this part was the most important, when some third year Hufflepuffs asked for help getting back to the castle, Sirius pushed them into the main part of the group and made sure they didn’t get left behind.
Interesting. Very interesting.
-
The fifth trial took place over the course of months.
This particular trait was especially present around the full moon when Remus was what they had come to call “moonsick”.
Anytime he was sick or upset, Sirius would snuggle up to him and not let go unless Remus needed something. They would burrow into the blankets for hours and not move until Sirius was assured of Remus’ wellbeing.
It didn’t count toward the experiment because it wasn’t out of character; Remus just thought it was worth noting.
-
The final trial was the least fun.
The two of them were making their way to the Great Hall after a grueling Ancient Runes test when they ran into Snape.
“Well, well, look who it is. Loony Lupin and his pet,” Snape drawled., toying with his wand. “I can’t believe they let people like you walk around, much less attend a school with children.”
Before Remus could even open his mouth, Sirius was saying, “I can’t believe they let you walk around with your hair looking like that.”
Snape’s eyes flickered to Remus. “You should really get him muzzled before he bites someone. Or do you like that?”
Remus didn’t have to look to know that Sirius was fuming next to him. “Fuck off, Snivellus.”
Remus tugged on his sleeve. “Let’s go, Sirius.”
They turned to leave, but Snape just had to get another word in. “That’s right. Run away. Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll see you in the Hospital Wing after the next-Fuck!”
For while Snape had been threatening Remus’ entire life, Sirius had been preparing to punch Snape in the face. Which was exactly what he did.
Thankfully, Sirius hadn’t gotten the boy in the nose, but from the looks of it, Snape would have a wicked black eye if he didn’t go see Madam Pomfrey.
And, if Sirius wasn’t stopped, he would have much more than that.
“Sirius!” Remus exclaimed. “Love, come on.”
Like an enchantment, Sirius flew to Remus’ side, but not without pointing to Snape and saying, “You tell anyone who did that and I’ll tell Dumbledore you threatened a student.”
With that, they left for the Great Hall, and Remus noted two things.
One, Sirius’ guard dog instincts were on point, and, two, he had developed the skills to follow basic commands.
Step Five: Results
All in all, Remus was very happy with the results of his experiment. Sirius seemed to be strongly exhibiting traits common to dogs such as herding, guarding, cuddling, and following commands.
That’s right; results conclusive. The process of becoming an animagi can cause behavioral changes associated with the animal counterpart.
Magnificent.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by my beloved 🌶️🧠^2 @xenokattz
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
16 😁😁
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
118, 025
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is my main obsession, but I do have a Harry Potter fic in the works that desperately needs an update. I've also been thinking about dipping into the Scandal fandom 🫣
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Primetime - Attoye PWP
Bound in Pleasure - Attoye PWP
An Angel, Drowned (Excerpt) - Namor/Okoye/Attuma PWP (whole fic is in progress)
Stars Within - Attoye (quite possibly the sweetest thing i've ever written in my existence)
Stars Aglow - Attoye (the second sweetest thing i've ever written in my existence
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do indeed! At least I do my best. I enjoy getting feedback and finding out how readers are feeling about the story and the characters. It's really the best part of sharing my writing with y'all 🥰
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Nothing... yet... 😬 I don't really have a plan for angsty endings, I angst to for the happy stuff 😁
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
The happiest I would say is either Stars Within or Stars Aglow (the actual ending is coming istg)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
My HP fic caught some hate because some people don't enjoy Black Hermione and that is what it is... I don't really care. The BPWF fandom has been nothing but welcoming and they have my entire heart 🤗
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
LMFAO yes 😂🤣🤣 Mind you, I just started in March and the majority of my fics are rated E 💀 but I write all kinds of smut and will be writing a lot more in the future 😁
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
There is a Narnia/Harry Potter fic in my personal drafts because I adore both fandoms. I might find the courage to post it one day 💀
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I certainly hope not
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nopenopenope... but many requests
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
LOL no... I don't share well but I'm always happy to plot with my besties 😜
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
I feel like this answer is pretty obvious but um Attoye (who's surprised 🤣)
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Sadly... Sunbound. It's entirely possible that I'll come back to it, but the vibe keeps drifting and I've got other things to work on 😅😅
16. What are your writing strengths?
World-building for sure... it's my favorite part. I've also been told I'm good with characterization(?) but idk... I just write what feels right.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
It takes me a ridiculously long time to write scenes my brain doesn't looooove. I also can't write things out of order, which is what takes updates so long 💀
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I like to do it for brief phrases, a few sentences, and terms of endearment, but full conversations just get a note that they're happening in a different language. I like to put English translations in brackets for the differing languages I use, and I try my best to find the most accurate translations, but I don't speak Yucatec Maya or Xhosa 😂
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Publicly: Harry Potter
In the secret file on my laptop? Game of Thrones 😬
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
It's not done yet, but Like Real People Do is going to end up being one of the best things I ever write. At least until that angsty crazy thing I'm planning comes out. 😁

rec three books you want everyone to read
okay so this has changed so much since last year i realised i was reading the worst books ever written like wtf-
so the first one would be- no longer human by osamu dazai which i read in the original japanese- hear me out i don't know japanese AT ALL.
when i read the book in english, i found it a lot like- i don't know the words didn't seem to have a voice but i was absolutely obsessed with the story, so i did the most sensible thing there was to do- i picked up a japanese dictionary and went through it seven times and found that i had picked up a lot of words (i personally think that was all of the dictionary it was the best one there was online) and then i sat with it to read the book again and my mind- WAS BLOWN. there is just some fucking thing about japanese writers i always knew that but i never did know that their works in japanese are the ones that truly matter. it was beautiful istg i would've slit my own throat to have read the japanese version first.
second i'd say would be the bell jar by sylvia plath
there's so much- so many words- like- cannot explain- just read. okay i might say a few things tho i'm not gonna recommend anything without a story. so i love this woman? like more than anything? as much as i love my mom? i want to ressurect her and keep her in my closet? like- wtf- this book killed my mind after i finished reading it. and i have only been reading books for their brilliant writing and nothing else and this book is a fucking triumph yes just the way i like to say about oscar wilde- if this was the only damn book she ever wrote it was worth it. like- i'm obviously obsessed with sylvia y'all know that but this book builds you up till it ends and tears you apart to birth this new person with a different perspective towards life like istg the only way to describe this book is that after reading it you'll start loving your mother, whatever that fucks up in your relationship with her is purely on you.
the third one- hmm- lmao ofc it's another japanese author like duh- remains of the day by kazuo ishiguro
and believe me ismail, jim and ruth (she's the only person EVER to have won both the booker and the oscar what a fucking queen) did this book justice just the way they always did. like- istg i have never hated anything they've adapted like wtf the consistency is off the fucking charts- room with a view, howard's end, the householder just nothing short of fucking brilliant.
anyways the book is so- japanese ofc it is but it was ishiguro was brought up in britain so you'd expect something different yeah the characters are of the stick-in-the-mud-british variety but they also have this uncanny japanese mannerism (not exactly as in the way they sit or greet ofc not but like- idk i've been told i have japanese mannerism but like- i'm nowhere close to being a japanese person myself so yeah) and it's really just- a kiss to the soul it's so calming and it makes you lowkey hate the british a little which ideally- um well, i am from a colonized country so *ehm* excuse me (if you've watched the crown that is, otherwise this will be you hitching your wagon to the wtf britain club). but like it's so- nice. i can't really- describe it. it's more about the story itself and less about how it's written but both are equally *chef's kiss*.

It's 12am and I'm sitting here debating which fanfic WIP I should work on again q-q
The two Monster High AU ones could honestly be released interchangeably so I could work on either or (I mean, Trapped In The Rain happens after BOTH of these fics in the timeline so it's not like I'm hyperspecific about chronological releases). Though the Clawdeen POV fic takes place a few months before the start of freshman year and the Frankie POV fic starts even further back, but is mainly based on their first week's experiences being in a public high school for the first time, the beginning acts almost like a prologue. Also debating whether or not it should be written in 1st person to emulate Frankie's narrations throughout the G1 films (Also kinda reminds me of Cady's narrations in Mean Girls 2003, it fits the "fish out of water" trope so well).
But the PPG fic is JUST A SMIDGE AWAY FROM THE BEST FREAKING PART FOR ME TO WRITE IN THIS PARTICULAR BATCH as if Chapters 8, 9 and 10 weren't already absolute BANGERS to work on and have at least one scene that made me go "THAT'S THE ONE DUDE I AM COOKING" y'all are not ready cause I'm sure not lol. And I literally have like 2 1/2 chapters left to write before getting to my editing drafts, and I've been dying to share what I've got and finally update the fic after...I don't even wanna know how many months. :'D Definitely over 6 at this point, I am SO SORRY.
The last thing is a super secret 4th thing (and no it's not the potential Miraculous rewrite, that's debatable on whether I'm making it as of right now but we'll see cause I still have enough ideas and interest for it, just wanna get through this long-term WIP first). I'm probably not gonna share it on the blog or my AO3 but that's only because it's a different kind of WIP (also different fandom than any of my previous works) and idk I'll just keep it at that. But I've been working on it 5+ years (even earlier than the first XXY drafts back in 2019) and my LORD do I want to just complete the mfkin first draft that I'm only like 50 scenes away from finishing bhngvfdcfgvbdcx ugh
Also I've been drawing a lot more lately so expect some MH and/or PPG art whenever I complete more than a sketch lol. I LOVED making my little title cover thing for Trapped In The Rain back in October (the perfect excuse to let my shipping brainrot go feral) & sharing my AU version of Stitched In Style Frankie art (which btw idk if I ever mentioned it but my cousin is the GOAT and bought her doll for me as a Christmas gift!!! She's hanging out in-box with my G3 dolls). Having art to go alongside chapter updates for XXY and oneshot uploads for my MH AU is something I have a lot of fun making and it's something I would like to be consistent with moving forward. I will also probably make art covers for Chs. 1-7 of XXY too because I had felt like doing it at the time of uploads but just got too busy with life stuff. Last year was awful for me besides these fics and my blog. :') Also istg I need to make that Instagram account for my art that I share here! Maybe someday, if I do I'll let y'all know.
