Xu Si is Rising with the Wind (Hand crafted)
I was really hoping by the time I started posting Xu Si figs that I would have made some progress in watching Rising with the Wind, but I have had exactly zero time lately to watch TV. It is definitely next up though! If you love Gong Jun in suits (and I do), it definitely seems like a show to watch.
So far I've just been getting my Xu Si in suits fix from Tumblr posts across my feed, and I've been thoroughly enjoying it.
This fig was inspired by Gong Jun's November 17, 2023 photo he posted on Weibo from a promotional event for Rising with the Wind:
Love the long blue overcoat! He looks so good.
My favorite ultra-light clay artist also loves Gong Jun in suits, so she designed this little guy to celebrate his show. I snapped it right up off her storefront, and in no time at all he was heading his way to me.
She always packages her figures very carefully. The ultralight clay is remarkably tough, but she avoids crushing damage but putting her figs in well-padded plastic boxes.
And here he is! Looking downright dapper, if you ask me.
The pose on this fig is fantastic. It's so casually elegant and confident.
His hair looks fantastic here. What a fabulous swoop! Please also note the watch detail! I love it.
Hmm, my camera seems to have focused on the base here and not the fig. Well, his hair still looks magnificent, even from this angle.
We don't get a back view of Gong Jun in that one photo, but fig makers scour all available pics from all different angles to get every detail right!
His little feet are so cute.
I like the details of the break in the trousers here.
She did a great job of the proportions of the suit - the right length on the overcoat and the suit underneath. Keeps the chibi proportions while still looking quite elegant.
It's always a little difficult to get bottoms-up angles when there's stands, but thank goodness there IS a stand. I really like how she always builds the fig into a stand.
I have a few extreme closeups for you - a good one here of the painting of his face, and of course the watch detail.
A good front view of the suit and tie - the tiny details here are so well done. She has a very steady hand!
More of that magnificent sweep of gorgeous black hair.
I'm so glad she was inspired by this show to make this fig. I definitely need to watch it.

Xu Si
+ Xu Si is the less exciting character between our two leads. yup, he is cool but he has less adversities stacked against him.
+ I am wondering what his arc would be
+ So here is a guy who seemed to have nothing but success in his life. because of this, he is convinced that his mindset is the right one.
+ one pov is that he simply does not prefer the stress of running a business (his mom was probably really stressed and was not around much while he was growing up), or, he just disregards the opinion of the elders that managing/growing a business yourself is a nobler endeavor than just financing developing businesses (these are all shared by his mom, jiang hu's dad and aunt yue). will the growth be in the form of acknowledging/appreciating the efforts of his mother by experiencing the hardships real time through jiang hu?
+ he says he wants to put value in inefficient companies - now there is nothing wrong with that in my opinion, so i cannot see where the growth would come from that
+ a more dramatic conflict could be between love and career. do you choose the managing director position over the future mother of your children? this does not fit the confucianist temper of c-dramas though so i dont see it playing out. as one of his co-investors said, career and family life are EQUALLY important
+ so maybe xu si's character development matches his personality. the weight is more cerebral than emotional, which is ok, but not dramatic
+ is it is his cold hearted computations? is the drama saying that efficiency does not come without compassion? that founders are not kpi machines and thus dealing with them requires some leniency and understanding? yup, this could be an arc, and even if it a serious one in the financial sector that runs the world, it does not make for a compelling character development
regarding this, this is currently the most obvious arc for him. he is shown to be very calculated, when his actions do not make sense on the surface, it is because he is actually serving a deeper (more nefarious) goal beneath. he is a guy with plans a-z with z actually being the real plan all along.
as set up, we have ex gf, who consistently tells audiences that xu si was ruthless with her when they were together, no softening of the blows, no excuses; rationality is the name of the game and the only acceptable result is profit
he was like this even with jiang hu in the beginning. was he insulted when she mistakes him for a junior secretary? no. he takes her money, buys a burger and plot to run her father's obsolete shoe factory to the ground.
and then we see him start to soften up. that's ok, he has a hidden agenda for teng yue anyway. but then we see him start to make contradict himself and make excuses. he told his boss he just needs a majority stake on teng yue, so why does he help jiang hu with operations? okay, maybe to increase teng yue's evaluation for a latter sale. xu si continues to manufacture justifications, to maintain an image of himself as a rational investor. what cannot be denied, is that delila has come for xu si's samson.
but can you see xu si, humanity is not separate from profits. they only separate when stakeholders refuse to be kind. value could be created both from viciousness and consideration.
anyway, but baoxing boss could see differently, right. a dollar today is greater than a dollar+ tomorrow and xu si could be forced to choose between keeping teng yue for jiang hu or keeping his career
+ he does serve a lot in the romance department though, so I'll stop complaining haha

Noncanonicals Tournament Round 2, Match 2
Match 2 is between Xie Lu / T from Memory Lost (shizun/mentor: Xu Sibai / S) and Chen Pi Ah Si from DMBJ / The Mystic Nine (shizun/mentor: Er Yuehong)

Xie Lu / T:
Xie Lu, codename T, is a member of the Alphabet Syndicate, and leader S's personal project. From a young age, Xie Lu displayed an uncanny aptitude for sharp-shooting. When his dream of going to a specialized school for training, and ultimately competing in the Olympics, was destroyed by his own father, Xie Lu left home, living off the land in the mountains. It was here, when he was fifteen, that he was approached by S, promising to train him in the art of killing, honing his already-excellent skills with a gun into something perfect.

In the aftermath of the police raid on the syndicate's base, T was the one who carried S out of the ruins, and cared for him, standing up to the others in defense of S' wishes.
//"S's order was to send Su Mian to Jiangcheng to replace Bai Jinxi's identity after he and Su Mian were in a coma." R said, "And S has always had a cover-up, Xu Sibai, a forensic doctor. These years, S has also completed his studies in forensic medicine. Let him return to this status, a year later, he will be transferred to Jiangcheng. Then everything will start again."
Xu Nanbai smiled suddenly: "For the mentally ill, this is really a deathly romantic decision."
"We still have a choice." L raised his head and looked at everyone, "If S will also lose his memory, let them be with us and we can say that they are a pair. Then, S can fulfill his wish and he can be with her. He can do whatever he wants without much trouble."

While T kept up working as a hitman in S' absence, he sent half of his earnings to him to ensure his well-being, and occasionally checked in on Xu Sibai in his new life. It is also canon that he fell into a deep depression for some time after being parted from S and the rest of the syndicate.

Listen. We know canonically Chen Pi is unhinged over his shifu's wife, but he's just as unhinged and Normal(tm) about Er Ye as he is about Ya Tou. He ripped a dude's face off for saying that Chen Pi might overtake Er Ye one day. He is the yandere flavour of a shizunfucker and you know it, and they deserve representation in this tournament as well

Xuxu 【雙徐】♥️
This pair of figs looks like Gong Jun and Zhang Zhehan - but it's actually two of their characters!
This Double Xu features Zhehan as (modern) Xu Jin from The Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion, and Gong Jun as Xu Si from Rising with the Wind (to be aired).
I still have The Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion on my to-watch queue, so I haven't caught up with our sparkly-eyed modern Duke Su yet. I don't want to spoil myself (or you!) so I'll simply add a promo pic of him for fig comparison purposes:
Keen-eyed observation notes he looks broad shouldered and super cuddly in that soft looking cardigan.
Wait a minute, the fig is of him in a suit, not a cardigan! Hold on, hold on, let me get a promo pic of him in a suit...
Hmm, there we go. That suit matches the fig, although it needs the coat over it. I'll come back once I've properly watched the show!
Xu Si is Gong Jun's genius investor character from Rising with the Wind, which should be hopefully airing soon. Xu Si was spotted during filming wearing a lot of very beautiful suits and coats, such as:

You may recognize that handsome pose from this handsome photo:
Yes, here we have Gong Jun wearing a gorgeous long coat over a gorgeous tuxedo and looking like a 100 million billion dollars yuan. This photo shoot of him striding across the Shanghai Peninsula Hotel helipad like he owns Shanghai himself, his long coat billowing and snapping in the wind, is pretty much everything I've ever wanted in a visual ever.
This photo shoot was done on 12-21-2021, during filming of Rising with the Wind.
Hot damn. If you will recall from me raving about Zhehan's Weibo Night McQueen frock coat, I have an intense weakness for long coats. They are my favorite. He is debonair in this.
Incredible. Wow, do we ever have exceptional taste, I must congratulate us.
Ok, I could stay here all night staring at these photos, but we have figs to talk about!
Look at that dapper suit and tux and those shiny shoes! Those Oxfords are polished to a mirror shine. I like it when each other has the other's symbol in their eyes, so we have Gong Jun Xu Si (ugh, it's hard to stay in the JZUniverse for this!) staring at his moon and Xu Jin literally starry-eyed looking at his beautiful star.
You notice the ring in Xu Ji's hand? Yep. Really, these figs are a blend of JZEU and Junzhe.
The white rose Zhehan / Xu Jin is holding is of course a nod to Zhehan's comment that if he ever confessed his love, he would confess it with a white rose, as well as Gong Jun's single white rose his assistant was spotted with during filming:
Oops, so easy to get distracted by all the symbolism. Onwards!
Love the detail on the rose here, and little flip in the back of Xu Si's coat (it must get windy on that helipad indeed!). The fig maker did a nice job with the hair - really captured Xu Jin's hairstyle from the show, and we have Xu Si's expensive layered cut.
Interestingly not much of a height difference on these figs. Xu Jin is pretty tall in the future. We have a bit of a forward lean on both of these handsome men, but otherwise they stand pretty well.
I like the coat detail of each of their hands in their pockets. Ugh I love the long coat even from the back, that's how deep the love for gorgeous long coats goes.
Top view - they're very seriously and cutely talking about their upcoming wedding plans.
Extreme closeup of their outfits, the rose, and the ring! I love Xu Jin's uwu mouth (because of course I do, that mouth shape is so cute!)
Xu Si's Serious Investor Face together with his Serious Investor Mouth looks frowny from this angle (sorry guys, I don't look good in an upshot angle myself!), but from a regular straight on view he just looks Serious. Well, I guess proposing to the love of your life IS the most Serious Business there can be!
Look at the heel on these shoes! The detail in these! I love it. What a great set of figs.
I'm not sure why there's chocolate bars on the box cards, but I'm not here to question artistic choices in fig designs. Maybe a better question is why not have chocolate bars on the box cards?
Now I kind of do want some chocolate. Advertising of the cutest kind! I'll buy it all!

I'm barely interested in Zhao Yang and Gao Yi, but their scene left the most impact for me again
+ so Teng Yue has a distribution problem. not even Xu Si has a network for this. but who has direct access to customers? Yup, department store director Gao Yi
+ I see Jiang Hu as having several arcs here.
Pride was tackled early on, we saw her sell her stuff, we saw her go after creditors like a gangster loan shark. Now she takes pride in her shamelessness. At the same time we saw her recover her pride when she faced her former friends, now the pride she holds is on more stable ground as she earned it herself.
Her business know how is an ongoing learning experience.
Trusting other people again is another hurdle. I think that her hesitation with Xu Si is more than being focused on business, or having a line between personal and professional life. It is also about trust. She lumped Xu Si as one of those "who twisted the knife". It is something that will be tested again before the series ends I think.
I think another ongoing arc is forgiveness. Jiang Hu has worked with Wang Zhenghan already. But as we can see, even with Jiang Hu's forgiveness, that relationship will continue to be adversarial. The Cloud Footwear subplot also seems to indicate a wariness of the director due to the sins of Jiang Hu's dad. Now we have GAO YI. The biggest scar that Jiang Hu carries is from Gao Yi's betrayal. For her to work with him again for Teng Yue's distribution, she would have to melt that huge hardened scab on her heart. She may not be able to forgive him fully, but she has to accept that she would have to acknowledge his existence, and even accept help from him
+ another thing I love about that Gao Yi - Zhao Yang scene is that this is the 5th triangle on this implicit love pentagon we have. Zhao Yang is finally close to Gao Yi, closer than Jiang Hu. For someone who always looses to Jiang Hu, always inferior, this might be some relief. But here she is, needing to be the bridge for Gao Yi and Jiang Hu for Teng Yue. Like being in the middle of a lover's quarrel. Zhao Yang is unaware of the depth of the rift between the two, and from her point of view, she could easily lose Gao Yi again. I just love the implicit heartbreak in that scene.
