His second in command didn't look too comfortable with the god being on the ship, especially since him, as a Lord Marshall said he wasn't here to be converted. "I would be careful telling breeder what to do." Vaako spoke up. Interesting. It seemed to irk the man. Not an easy feat.

"I suppose you would, Commander," Loki replied archly, his expression unfailingly pleasant. His eyes glinted too-green as they shifted back to the Lord Marshall. "Yet it was no order, only a... suggestion. From one who has millennia of experience in such matters. I am a visitor here; it would be neither my place nor my duty to interfere so."

Tilting his head, Loki finally smiled; though it was thin, and didn't reach his eyes. "Lifetimes ago, I cast a spell that whispered my name whenever it was spoken by another. Sometimes, I find it quite difficult to hear anything else."

Between battle sections in Wildermyth, the party is free to explore the overworld as time passes, completing various tasks and finding new story beats as they travel. In addition to acquiring new equipment and gaining alliances, as time passes throughout the game the enemies the player encounters grow stronger too, gaining benefits, monster types, and abilities previously unseen. This ensures that even if players are spending extra time building up their reserves and exploring every part of the map, the enemies will continue to keep pace with them throughout the play experience.

thea and maya grew up in the same neighborhood as playmates and friends. proximity made it easy to keep in contact, but the older they got and the more time passed without any signs of maya being able to universe-hop the way everyone could, the less they saw of each other. thea didn't mind, not really, but the adults around them did. a lot of their peers too. even with everything thea tried to do, maya was slowly falling out of reach despite living literally only a couple houses away from each other.

being friends as kids, it turns out, doesn't make promises for the rest of forever. they end up being " only neighbors " again until thea leaves, frustrated and upset about what had happened to their friendship. she fully means to come back, but leaving without a plan wasn't a good idea. she ends up hopping. then she hops again. and again. and again. something or other made it unreasonable to stay in one place long, including initially being followed by family to try to " bring her back to her senses " which works about as well as fixing a window with bricks.

then one day she sees maya, and they're both so far from home that no one is still looking ( as far as they know, at least ). with no one to stop them this time, a sorely missed friendship rekindles through sharing adventures.

Liking a flawed character is completely fine—we all do it, but liking a character while ignoring all their faults is something that will never sit well with me. Especially when that character was meant to be deeply flawed to begin with.

Take Tristan. He’s, objectively speaking, a mess. He isn’t ready to be with Lily, but doesn’t want anyone else to “take his place.” He wants Lily’s happiness, but is unable to accept that it might reside with someone else. Romantically, at least.

Time and time again, Tristan fails to be Lily’s friend because he can’t come to terms with her rejection. He assumes pretty toxic behaviours, which result in the mess happening at the end of Firewalker.

So, why is it that I have to read posts about him being perfect for Lily? Posts that do not even acknowledge the maturing that Tristan would’ve needed to do for that to happen?

People are always going to like who they like, and ship who they ship. But it’d be really nice if a character’s bad actions weren’t overlooked.

It wasn't as though he intended on getting into trouble. Some days it simply seemed as if the stars aligned, as if the fates had woven his path, and that path was crafted entirely of chaos.

He'd only been drinking at Quark's — such an interesting establishment — and minding his own business, as it were. On a station such as this, and in his current role, almost everything was his business, to be fair.

This time, he'd managed to offend a member of a species he'd never even seen before, apparently by nothing more than catching his eye as he took a drink. Even now, the man was bellowing in a voice that had started at loud, and now approached enraged, demanding satisfaction.

Temper fraying, he found his fingertips tapping at the hilts of his concealed daggers as the creature stood and crowded into his space, and Loki bared his teeth in a smile that should have warned him away if he'd any self-preservation whatsoever.

It seemed his tenure as a diplomat here would be brief indeed.

Hey Mark! Just wanted to say that I started playing Arena again explicitly because of The Big Score and the cards in it. Worldwalker Helm + Simulacrum Synthasizer is such a fun wombo combo that it brought me, a Commander player, to standard so I can play it more.
