in my workhating era :/

#i'll never be able to last more than a year anywhere. i just get so tired so fast #i was never going to stay at this job long term but it's only been nine and a half months #with past jobs that i hated it was a slow build but this week i was just SLAMMED with the idontwanttodothis out of nowhere #workposting #oh nanamin we're really in it now #i had an epiphany in the cereal aisle at trader joes. i've been lying to myself for years. or at least not acknowledging the truth #i always thought i was someone who just didnt want things. no dreams no ambitions indifferent about having a career or a family or a goal #that's still true. i dont really care to have those things. but i DO want things. i want to create things #no i NEED to create. it's a compulsion. im funny in the head because the art and the stories cant get out #good art is a moral imperative.#and if what i want is to create then why am i not doing everything in my power to make that happen #which is why i think i need to move back in with my parents. even if its not the ideal sitch my cost of living will drastically decrease #and i can support myself on part time work #and since i have parents who are affluent enough and kind enough to take me back into the family #it would be stupid to NOT use that resource and privilege if the pursuit of art and story is what i really really want #(and it is. i want it so badly more than anything i cant believe FOR YEARS i thought i didnt want.)#but still. the white middle class american in me is telling me im ceding defeat if i go back.#that im a failure if im not maintaining independence post-grad #well guess what. im living that dream babey im a big girl fully independent in the real world. and it SUCKS.#it's lonely out here.#im tired of my job controlling my life. i should be able to attend my sisters graduation and my friends weddings and do so without guilt.#personal

More than Goblin, More than Machine

Even with the sounds of combat still fresh in the troll’s ears, he could hardly believe that it was all caused by one goblin.

He could hear her heavy footsteps stomping through the camp towards the tent he thought to use as shelter. His heart raced and beat a savage hasty beat as his mind tried to find some advantage that could get him out of this mess. His mouth was dry, his throat may as well have been filled with sand, as he gulped down air and prayed to whatever Loa would listen.

Then he saw the metallic fingers thrust through the tent flaps, then jerk the tarp open revealing him to the woman called Nixxa.

“There you are.” Nixxa said, her face a mask of detachment. “You know what’s about to happen right?”

“Nah, please, joo be havin’ a price? I be willin’ to pay it?” The troll said.

When Nixxa said nothing and reached for her weapon, the troll bowed his head and crawled on his hands and knees towards the mechanogoblin. He grabbed hold of Nixxa’s pant leg and whined for forgiveness and mercy. The sight may have been pitiable to even the coldest of hearts, had Nixxa not known what the troll and his ilk were up to. She could only scoff and adjust the aim on her pistol.

“You,” Nixxa said as she pulled back the pistol’s hammer, “rob others of their rights of life, and you expect me to show you any kindness?”

The troll shook his head madly and squeezed his fingers around Nixxa’s legs, his fingers tightening around the cold unfeeling metal that her clothing hid.

“Ya gotta be understandin’ mon, I jes be followin’ orders.” The troll said.

Nixxa shook her head.

“Wrong orders.” She said as she pulled the trigger.

The pistols explosion rang out across Stranglethorn Vale. Birds who had thought it safe to return to that stretch of jungle flew away from the thunderous noise. As if on cue, a wind blew through the trees and rustled through half-dead leaves that crinkled in the breeze.

Nixxa raised the pistol then stepped away from the corpse and turned her head to survey the damage.

To the east and west were broken cages that once held enslaved murlocs, orcs, trolls, and humans and were now little more than burning piles of wood. To the north was a watch tower that leaned heavily to the side from where one of Nixxa’s rockets had blasted an ogre through. To the south was the shoreline and the dock that could have been used as a port, had Nixxa not set fire to it during her assault.

All told, the operation was a success. The slaves were freed, and the slavers dealt with.

But the raid carried a heavy price as a lucky bullet dinged her power supply which made it easier to move around even with all of her inner modifications. It made every step a laborious thing, and every motion take an agonizingly long time.

“Guess I overdid it…” Nixxa said to no one in particular.

She shrugged and pressed a button on her wrist bound remotes to activate her machines self-repairing helper-bots. Hidden pockets in her elbows and knees opened wide venting a blast of steam before four metal spheres were dumped out around her. After a moment, the machines unfolded and became small robots with golden workhats and tools of silver and bronze.

The machines clicked and beeped with a pleasing tinny sound, then clambered atop Nixxa’s Chassis to make repairs and adjustments. As she felt the first of the dents popped out and smoothed, the mechanogoblin shut her eyes and breathed in deep.

Regular maintenance was so important to her tech, but she couldn’t help but treat it as the pampering that many goblins loved. Even if she was mostly machine, she was still a goblin at heart.

Nixxa breathed in deeply, then shut her eyes as she left the bots to do their work. The field may not have been the best place for repairs, but unless she felt like spending a week to get back to civilization, it would have to be done. She only hoped that she was all alone for the minutes that repairs would take.

Crack

Her head snapped up as she heard the crunch of twigs to the east. She darted her eyes towards the sound and activated her scopes lenses to peer into the distance. At first she couldn’t tell what she had heard, until she saw a female goblin in heavy armor at the lead.

This woman had red hair that was tied back into a pony-tail, with a studded metal skull clip keeping her tresses out of her eyes. Her armor was dark red, with a black blue tabard with a stylized goblin’s face upon the front. The woman moved with confidence and purpose and seemed to know how to use the sword and shield in hand.

Is she an enemy? Nixxa thought as she raised the pistol and aimed it for the woman’s head. If she is, then she’ll have to go.

As the woman stepped into the clearing, Nixxa cleared her throat and shouted out.

“Halt! Who are you?” Nixxa said.

The goblin woman moved like lightning and slammed the shield into the ground as a brace. She narrowed her eyes and stared ahead until her eyes met Nixxa’s even from that far away distance.

When the unknown goblin spoke, she spoke with the very same pride that Nixxa noticed in her gait.

“I’m Vixiee Bootsguard! Trade Princess of…”

Nixxa squeezed the trigger and fired a shot. Vixiee moved her shield. When the bullet struck the shield, it collided and sparked with blue-white surges of electricity, clearly a souped up Engineering design.

“Don’t want Trade Princes here! This slave camp is no more! Go back now or I’ll finish you off.” Nixxa said.

There was a pause between the two women. Nixxa wondered if Vixiee was waiting for a sniper to move to place, or if she was considering her odds in taking down Nixxa. The mechanogoblin even wondered if Vixiee would back off and hide as most trade princes did.

She was quite surprised when Vixiee dropped her sword and shield on the ground, spread her arms wide, and smiled.

“NOT FAIR!” She called out, “I wanted to take these losahs out myself! Mind if I come closer so we can talk?”

Nixxa stared at Vixiee. She could hear the sincerity in the Trade Princess’ words. She could see the confidence in the woman’s stance, even noticing how her knees were braced for fast movement. Vixiee’s left foot was hooked beneath the strap to her shield, as if ready to kick it up at a moment’s notice to defend herself. It was clear that she was a warrior, too shrewd to take an uncalculated risk.

Even if she hated the Cartels…perhaps this one was less dangerous at arm’s reach then far away.

Nixxa lowered her arm as the repair bots continued their work.

Vixiee smiled and kicked up her shield resetting it on her back.

Little did Nixxa know, that Vixiee had already decided to hire the slavebreaker as another hired hand.

#i should probs go to store b4 it starts getting rlly hot #but like i dont want to go back out #but im going to the family place at 4pm bc my dad's bday so idk if i will have time to go later #and im out of cereal; milk; oatmeal; and anything that isnt ramen; tea; candy or peanut butter #i mean i have mac n cheese but no butter either #and pasta but no sauce #well actually i also have one can of soup and a protein drink #but like that will last at most a day #and i have work at 10am again tomorrow so #wont have time to get things if i dont get them now #but like im out of sunscreen so i have to wear a jacket to prevent getting burned #and i have like only enough in my account rn to buy essentials and food is higher priority than suncreen #i also need a hat that isnt my workhat so my scalp stops burning #bc evn with sunscreen it burns #also a belt bc none of my pants and shorts other than the tie tightening ones fit me right #and i mean im gonna try to apply to calfresh wednesday but that takes a while #also there's no way i can make enough to pay rent on time next month so im def gonna have to ask parents for the loan thing and hope they #wont charge interest or hold it against me(tho they probs already do)#i should get enough from financial aid to cover rent for the school year once i get that #but that isnt until late september since that's when the quarter starts again
