LIFE UPDATE!!!
Yes here we are, a life update. I don’t know if there are many of you who read these but I like to post these here to get shit off my chest. No one in my day to day follow me here  (If you do, I’m SO Fucking sorry LOL turn away while you can my tumblr is not meant for you guys) so I feel okay with posting here.  So for a recap, I have been battling my extended medical company since before Christmas of last year. They did not want to approve my paid short term leave claim due to mental health issues.... I mean my first rep was like “ Yeah I acknowledge that you are struggling but I don’t think it should be our problem, go make a workers comp claim” and declined it. I appealed it and it’s been taking so long that I had to go back to work before I even felt ready because I had burned through nearly all of my savings. Luckily my family has been super supportive so I was able to eat at their house and use nearly all of my money for utilities, bills and rent ( though my mom covered my rent one month without telling me and I cried extensively over it feeling like a failure when I found out). The health insurance people just made it feel like since I wasn’t physically harming myself yet that my issues were somehow not real or important.
So after several Doctor evaluations, phone interviews with Appeals ( different department than the first one), evals from mental health support groups, medication trials and such I finally got my answer on Thursday.
They Approved my Appeal!
They appologized over how long it took to get approved and over how awful the first person I spoke too was.  They’re approving short term as well as Long term disability which means under the same claim I could in theory go back off work. I could focus on getting a therapist near by and try to get myself feeling back together.... to maybe feel less like I’m being held together by string and old glue. To address my depression and low moods along with getting a better handle on my anxiety which is fucking RAMPENT.
I just have to talk with my new Case worker and HR (which their assholeary is a whole other fucking post in itself) to get my owed money sorted out (which is looking like roughly 4 months worth of back pay) then seeing if I can get off again. If I can’t go on long term leave then I’ll probably close the file and Quit my job since I can’t deal with it anymore. Since I’ve been back its awful.... I’ve been burning through my vacation and sick days because I just can’t handle it.
Regardless though, its been an awful experience over all and now we’re seeing the end. Maybe I can finally catch a breath and a break.

Pharmacist/Me = 1 🏆 Doctor/Nursing Staff = 0
Thank you in advance for reading this rant. I’ve been really frustrated and just needed to get this off my chest, and today at least I had a wonderful knight in a white lab coat. 🩺❤️‍🩹🥽🥼💪🏻
Content warnings and squicky squicks: (further down there is) an image of a medical vial with a clipped image of a more benign part of a syringe, health conditions (endometriosis, fibromyalgia), menstrual cycles and associated terms such as bleeding and other things, lack of empathy in my specific healthcare system, hysterectomies, pain, swearing and losing patience. Most important warning: self-administered syringes and injection discussions of legal medications (Depo-Provera) approved of by professionals and properly researched. P.S. this may sound rather Karen-like but I would never do this to someone’s face. Online ranting and acknowledging where I could do better is not the same as screaming in public for bossy requests or comps, etc. Ew.
Another ‘warning’… pharmacists being kick-ass allies and giving a damn about their patients.
I’m really annoyed because (and I know healthcare and scheduling is a clusterfuck right now, but…) for over a month now I’ve been trying to get an appointment in person to get this injectable medication that is, yes, birth control, but is also used for endometriosis in my case. And I have severe endometriosis (exacerbated severely by fibromyalgia, siiiiigh) to the point I bleed enough and lose so much I have to go to the hospital when my care is not properly preventative… like in this case, and the pain is unbelievably severe also to the point I’ve spent time in the hospital, including my 11th Christmas Eve and Day. I started this injectable medication at 13 because it was the only thing that came close to helping reduce my endometrial tissue. Even a hysterectomy wouldn’t help as much, unless they decided to go the super invasive route and remove all the organs (or parts of them) that had become ‘infected’ by the tissue. Again, tissue where it’s not supposed to be, and it causes extreme pain as the tissue tries to flush out of my body each period, even if it’s attached to, like, my pancreas. Just no. That does not work at all. No. That is not fun.
SO. I’m 31, nearing 32, and the doctor’s office knows this. I’ve had the same doctor since I was 10. Been on this medication nearly non-stop for just shy of two decades (with appropriate precautions such as bone density tests) because of the absolute severity of the pain and my inability to function when it hits… which can be months at a time of non-stop bleeding and morning sickness-level nausea and vomiting, migraines and the occasional complete inability to move—in other words, it’s debilitating.
My doctor (even the nurses, as it’s in large print at the top of my file in the system) knows all about this. They’re supposed to call me if I’m overdue by a certain margin (I get they’re busy but months and months???). But my doc’s also a bit of an airhead (albeit a smart one when he focuses) and takes forever to reply to anything on time, even when it’s a severe issue, but not severe enough to go to the hospital. But it’s gotten to the point where the nurses say to go to the ER and then the ER nurses and doctors there get SUPER pissed off (AT ME AND SOMEHOW NOT AT MY DOCTOR/NURSES AND THEIR ORDERS) at the ‘waste of time’, and it’s just a clusterfuck.
Oh yeah, and that ER visit while I was overdue for my injection? Internal intestinal bleeding along with a lovely, even if small, perforation in my fucking uterus from the growth of endometrial tissue. I MEAN COME ON — WHAT IN THE HELL. Totally preventable if they fit me in when I called literally over a month ago.
But I will not change my doctor (the other docs at the practice know what is going on and have offered to take me on, but they don’t have the experience with myself and my conditions or the history, but they can do little else because of professional conduct—it’s between myself and my doc) because he is the only one who treats me with humanity and understands fibromyalgia, endometriosis, pre-MS and pre-RhA/PsA, endo-related IBS, (ulcerative) colitis, and other neurological conditions with any degree of empathy. (See, I told you I’m a mess!) There is no way I’m switching offices in the perpetual shortage of doctors in Canada moving elsewhere for m o n e y (plus Covid-19 being a teen hooligan and constantly coming back to wreck more goddamn shit, including everyone’s sanity, then setting things on fire like the real hooligans in my village have been doing this summer — I mean… what in the hell!?!?), so with all that in mind I actually thank my lucky stars. So I put up with a lot of this shit because he treats me, besides him being an airhead, like an actual human being deserving of compassion and care and quality of life despite my severe disabilities and pain. So.
I’m usually treated really well (even if they often think I’m a nuisance for daring to be severely chronically ill/in pain all the time) so I try to be patient and good and understanding when I can.
But his STAFF (I know they’re busy and I’ve been patient but they’ve been so awful honestly to the point I cried hard enough my dad noticed my red eyes and frustration-tear fracks on my face)! And the doc himself’s inability to reply to notes on time even when urgent and when he knows the circumstances (I admit I am a bit of a hard patient so I can understand if he just kinda ignores me sometimes, honestly). But in this case I was THREE DAMN MONTHS LATE for my injection and they’ve always called in the past when I was coming due if it looked like I hadn’t scheduled an injection, so that I was all on time and squared away and didn’t risk severe pain and damage to my already-fucked hormonal system (learning I couldn’t have kids was absolutely heartbreaking, let me tell you, but even a hysterectomy in that case would solve nothing — this is by far the easiest option, especially considering how my fibromyalgia would fuck with my post-surgery recovery and leave me with lasting pain for years if not decades; sigh).
Anyway. So. After some ridiculous levels of back and forth and some truly remarkable levels of lack of compassion (she kept giving me the exact same, word for word response in a bored tone UGH) considering the severe pain I was in (I was told, in front of OTHER PATIENTS AND STAFF, that I could just wait until I talk to the doctor myself at my next phone appointment and then schedule my injection for my next MONTHLY followup — 4.5 months overdue at that point, it would’ve been — because, and I quote, ‘am used to dealing with pain because of my fibromyalgia and years of dealing with it and other conditions’ which they named in front of others!!!!!!!! what. the. fuck. But I kept my cool because I know all these people, my mom taught their kids music, they’re a fixture of the community, etc. and I refuse to be a Karen…. At least externally.
But here comes the nice part that makes me love our new (okay, he’s been here like 5 years but still, in a small town that’s pretty new lmao) pharmacist that much more. Rasik was aware of my frustration with the doctor and nurses and was even the one who brought to my attention that, at the time, I was 2 months late for my injection and he was a bit concerned since he’s privy to how much pain I exist in without throwing in one or more knives directly into my womb, ovaries, tummy, hips, and other areas my endometrial tissue has taken root. He’s such a sweetheart and he really does care for his patients— the work he does with my father’s diabetes (the tricky one where you’re not obese) management is above and beyond the call of a pharmacist and I will forever be grateful for that alone, never mind how he cares for me.
So I went in today to pick up another medication, after yet another frustrating stop-over at the nurses’ desks, and he suggested I ask for my injectable medication (it’s Depo-Provera, by the way) and the syringe plus the two tips necessary — I’m actually familiar with this since I had to learn epinephrine injections from an early age (not Epipen) and how to give testosterone daily to my ex-husband (sorry not sorry, dude, but congrats on your first kid *grouchy thumbs up*). But yeah! Legally he’s not allowed to suggest I give it to myself, but he was getting super fed up with the nurses and doctors dragging their feet and ‘being assholes with little empathy’ in his own words, so I took the hint and requested my vial plus syringe, as well as the drawing and injection gauge needles…. which he gleefully filled for me, and I reiterated that it was ‘fully my idea, not yours, Rasik, because everyone knows I’m dumb and would never think it’s you if something happened’ (I’m not dumb and I’ve given injections to others many times looool).
Tumblr media
Long story short: HERE’S TO PHARMACISTS AROUND THE WORLD, BEING AMAZING AND CARING FOR THEIR PATIENTS AND ‘BENDING BUT NOT REALLY BENDING’ THE RULES TO MAKE SURE THEIR CLIENTS ARE CARED FOR PROPERLY. They are amazing and deserve every last bit of your courtesy, especially when they pull double duty every. single. day. because of Covid and their subsequent boosters. (i.e. boosters in the form of humans who are fucking stupid if they have no medical reason not to get the vaccine… I mean JFC.)
Rasik? You are amazing and I am 100% going to find you some Indian-Canadian (or North Indian; I believe that’s where he’s from originally) treats or desserts or make some myself after slyly asking his assistant what he leans toward liking.
Be kind to one another, yeah, but… my goodness: be kind to those who can truly make a difference in your health, sanity, and even life or death.
Pharmacists, volunteers, and frontline health workers: the true heroes of these times.
Thank you so much. So very much.
💜💙🇨🇦👨🏽‍⚕️❤️‍🩹🙏🏻
P.S. … now I just gotta stab myself intramuscularly after making sure there’s no air bubbles and etc., and swap out to the proper gauge needle (different, smaller, to draw from the vial, larger to inject so that it goes in more quickly and, oddly enough, hurts less haha). I don’t think air bubbles are as much of an issue as when injecting intravenously (ummm I have a doctor uncle and grandma nurse and nurse friends, so shush 😆). But I’ve done this for others and animals so I should be good! :)
I’m a smart enough cookie even if I’ve lost a few nibble-size pieces around the edges. 😉😘 buahaha
Cheers to my pharmacist!!!! You are amazing and I can’t wait for the pain and months and months of bleeding to settle down.
Remind me again why humans are the only mammals (animals?) with monthly fluxes? UGH wtf ever. 🙃

A rough draft/timeline...
Once upon a time, I was a quiet child, who excelled in sports and could string together good sentences every now and again.
I received a certificate at the end of my first year in a boy’s secondary school in East Hertfordshire, by my departing English teacher called Ms Prole. It was certified that I was  ‘Most Daydreaming Pupil.’
I was a child who lived inside his imagination, thought deeply about things. I had a fair amount of friends, most of them being at least two years older than me.
We would break into old bomb shelters, explore hard, found a small woods that contained concrete bunkers, and convinced ourselves we had discovered a secret, disused American airbases. I would go on long bike rides, often finding great secluded bodies of water that contained hard to catch fish. I played for a local bottom of the league football team, on often flooded fields that used to be paddocks.
Then something changed. My granddad died when I was twelve.Losing a wonderfully wise man whose wisdom I took for granted, well, it hit me really hard.My thoughts seemed to constantly focus on death.Over the course of the next year or so, my behaviour changed drastically, I became extremely undisciplined, argumentative, I got suspended from school on several occasions. With the help of an Educational Officer – psychiatrists and psychologists took an interest in me.After a few sessions with various medical professionals, my parents were informed with confidence that I had a condition called manic depression and that it was caused by a  chemical imbalance/ deficiency of a salt in my brain. After being sure that my heart, kidney or liver was free from defects, I was prescribed Lithium Carbonate.
I took the medication most days between the ages of 14 and 18.
At first, my behaviour did not improve, and it was decided that I should spend time in an adolescent unit of the psychiatric wing of a hospital near St. Albans.
It was a very strange place, most of the resident children there were unwanted orphans I seem to remember.
A lot of the nurses were very heavy-handed in their restraint techniques, and doctors loved nothing more than to sedate those of us not willing to take part in various group activities.
The heavy-handed ways, the use of an exclusion room and the sedation syrup, for even the smallest of infractions – it makes me question the ethics and morals of some of the staff, but nothing I was privy to was against the law as far as I can tell. (There has been stories in the news recently about the police investigating historic abuse allegations, I can’t testify to being abused, but it certainly wasn’t the holiday camp that the staff tried to portray to my parents. Maybe the memories of that place would have been a lot worse without a father and mother looking out for me).
After a couple of months I was back to school.
I was the shadow of my former daydreaming self, but I no longer displayed as much unruly behaviour.
I had lost virtually all my friends, I was increasingly paranoid, socially withdrawn.
I was behind in my school work, and I wasn’t able to catch up.
By the time I was 15 I had the choice of resitting the year or joining another school out of the area 18 miles away, to be in the fourth form where nobody knew me.
So I opted to leave a pretty decent boys-only comp with a Christian ethos, to go to a mixed comp that used to be a grammar school, but which had become a third-rate egalitarian mess.
It is safe to say that I did not respond well to the lowering of educational standards. By the final term of my second attempt at being a fourth form pupil, I was ‘asked to leave’.
I left the school at the age of 16, without any experience of the fifth form. I went to the regional college for two years and completed a couple of NVQ modules in I.T.
I spent most of my college time in the library or playing basketball in the gym.
The point here is that I am not convinced I was mentally ill.
Maybe I was, but I do not think that medication/psychiatric treatment helped me.
The major thing that helped me become a less self-destructive force was *time*.
The death of a close family member really haunted my mind, and I did not know how to deal with it.
My childish poetry turned dark and very cryptic, unfortunately, the caring adults in my life who were interpreting my private words without my permission, they were totally off the mark in concluding that my prose was a sign of me being suicidal. I was certainly crying out for help, but my words were actually full of fear about death, not a single syllable expressed a desire to die.
I wasn’t sleeping much, and prolonged lack of sleep can affect behaviour a lot,
I stopped playing football,
I stooped going on adventures,
I stopped daydreaming.
Lack of exercise can cause serious problems, especially in a child who was once very active.
Add puberty to the mix. . .
I do not think Lithium was the answer to whatever was happening. And how did the medication affect the development of my fragile brain?
I guess that question is impossible for me to ever answer.
I was lucky to have a good family GP who was close to retirement, a doctor from an older generation who was in agreement with me that I would be better off without medication.
As soon as I was eighteen he helped me gradually decrease my doses until I was on the medication no more.
I lacked a lot of confidence, but had no problem finding work with the occasional kick up the backside from my father.
After running into a few dead ends, I eventually became a cellarman/barman in an unusually well run small family pub that was slightly off the beaten track.
In my mid-twenties I moved to Manchester with my licensee certificate in hand, but instead of running a pub, I ended up working in a mind-numbing call centre on behalf of a royal Scottish bank.
By the age of 30, I was a homeowner.
On paper, things seemed good. I heard from a reliable source that my parents were proud of me.
I was unhappy. The relationship with my supposed future wife was on the rocks. I was tired of being a battery chicken trying to get people into debt. I was drinking too much. I had put on a lot of weight. I think I might have been slightly depressed.
Then one evening there was a TV show on, presented by Stephen Fry, it was about living with Bipolar Disorder (The new name for manic depression.)
I think it was on at about the same time that the disability discrimination act came into force.
I was struggling with timekeeping and discipline at work.
Home life was not happy. I was a little drunk and somehow became convinced it was a good idea to talk about my ‘mental health history’ with my partner, and to my manager at work the next day.
Things went downhill very quickly from there.
I went to a doctor, got referred to a psychiatrist.
After a 30 minute consultation, it was decided that I had a mild version of ‘Bipolar II’ And Lithium Carbonate was being prescribed to me. It didn’t agree with me, and I abruptly stopped taking it. Bad idea.
I was a mess. After about 2 years I had split with my partner, mindlessly took my name off the mortgage agreement. I struggled to stay in regular work because of my erratic self-destructive behaviour. I was on benefits for a couple of years.
Eventually, I got a job as an assistant manager, in a betting shop of all places. It was an interesting few years, but working for a morally challenged employer can eventually take its toll on one’s spirit.
This is when I ‘gave up’. I would get a sick note from my local medical centre once a month, claiming I was depressed, etc.I started claiming Employment Support Allowance and Housing Benefit because of my supposed ‘disability.’.The money was more than enough to exist on as part of a house share in a diverse student area in south-central Manchester. At some point a cannabis smoker moved into the house I was barely existing in.It didn’t become long before an occasional toke turned into a regular habit. It took a year or so, but I eventually became undoubtedly mentally ill. I was not self medicating, I smoked weed because I enjoyed smoking it, I loved getting ‘high.’
My behavior gradually started changing for the worse over the course of about half a year. I went to doctors complaining of anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia etc. I told them about my cannabis habit too. The young funky doctor referred me to a young hip psychiatrist, who after 5 minutes of questions, decided that   Quetiapine may be the answer to my woes. I wasn’t getting any better, and I gradually stopped taking the medication. I started smoking cannabis again.
I was under the influence of what I’ll call acute mania not long after reading ‘The Cameron Delusion.’ I am fortunate that was the last book I read before I became undeniably mentally ill.
At the height of my illness, it was like I was inside a vivid daydream like I was fast asleep and wide awake at the same time. It is hard to explain. I was aware I was ill though, I sought help. It was eventually decided I should be sectioned, and I disagreed, so a bunch of health workers accompanied by police officers came to my front door. One policeman with impeccable customer service skills informed me I would have to be restrained with cuffs for my own safety, and I was escorted into the back of a police van. The police chauffeured me to the hospital, where I became a reluctant resident/client in a locked ward for about 6 or 7 weeks.
I was forced to take a cocktail of 4 mind-altering drugs on a daily basis. A psychiatrist would see me for about five minutes, once a week. I was told after the sixth or seventh short consultation that I could be released under the condition that I carried on taking the drugs. A social worker visited me on two occasions in the two months after my release from the hospital. Assured I was taking the medication, the visits stopped. I didn’t mention to the social worker that I was gradually lowering the doses I was taking. Within days of the last visit, I had eventually weened myself of the medication completely. It took several months, but eventually, I got a job.
And I have been well, in full-time employment for about a year now, without any problems.
I don’t use cannabis anymore either of course.
And I haven’t knowingly talked to a doctor since my time in the hospital.Mind-altering drugs just do not agree with me.

How Should You File a Case With a Workers Compensation Lawyer?
Victims generally file millions of workers compensation claims in every annual session to get the right of compensation for lost wages, medical costs, and mental anguish. Few are fortunate enough to complete the complex process with little strife, but maximums are not so lucky.
Limitless employers and their insurers attempt to avoid responsibility for injuries victims sustain within the workplace. So, it is one of the reasons why victims come forward to take advantage by partnering with a fellow Workers Comp Lawyer during the claim process.
These legal professionals can also help victims by facilitating communication with medical and insurance staff, providing advice on filling out crucial paperwork, and helping to clarify complex legal procedures.
Tumblr media
Workers Compensation Lawyer Near Me Will Help After You File Your Claim
Several workers’ compensation claimants self-observed that they benefit from seeking advice from an attorney before they even delve deeper than the claims process surface.
The process of filing a claim proves straightforward, even without legal advice from an experienced professional. While making part with a lawyer may early allow the victims to know about their attorneys, and attorneys to become familiar with cases of victims, which can prove to be beneficial if the claims process proves more complex than anticipated earlier.
A workers compensation lawyer near me will have the knowledge and extensive experience to assist you in such a situation. You can fill out the required documents and also help you to gather documentation from other parties like doctors.
The decision regarding inclusion or exclusion of several types of information is enough to help speed up your case along—an attorney can give beneficial advice to you to ensure that you rest with the best chance at a simple claims process.
How fast can you apply for the suit?
Contact a legal professional if you are a victim of a workplace injury. Instantly inform your employer and ensure that they would quickly fill out an incident report as quickly as possible after an accident.
It includes things such as:
The place where the accident occurred
witnesses present at the time of the accident
Timing & the date of an accident.
Cause of an accident
Following this,  prioritize all this through seeking medical attention. Compensation of workers' claims may include victims watching a doctor of their employer’s choosing.
Different types of injury claims we deal with, a very few  but not all are listed below:
Broken bones
Head injuries
Hearing loss or damage
Chemical exposures (resulting cancer or mesothelioma)
Traumatic brain injuries
Spinal cord injuries
Muscular injuries
Electrocution injuries
Your employer must ensure all employees are working in a safe condition. Taking proper safety precautions can help avoid most workplace injuries and adequate trading set in place by that employer in the best way possible.
When Do You Seek Help of a Lawyer for Your Workers’ Compensation Claim?
Determining whether you need a lawyer depends on how your employer, especially their insurance company, handles your application.
Here are a few things to consider when making this decision:
According to your employer, the accident did not occur at work. Sometimes they try to say that the accident did not happen at work if the injury took a while to get worse. The same can be for damages associated with chemical exposure over time.
Insurance companies may also fight a permanent disability that prevents you from returning to work because of the heavy money involved in such cases.
The employer takes too much time for your request and does not process the claim properly, which should not take more than 30 days to complete.
Suppose the insurance companies deny your application. It is when a specialist is needed, and you should contact the best Workers Compensation Lawyer Near Me.
There are many other signs that you should hire an expert to handle your workers' compensation claim. If you feel uncomfortable or your employer does not show the best of your interests in mind, try not to hesitate to contact our office for a free consultation.
Legal Counsel Is Important to Your Claim
Because of the wide range of potential claims for workers' compensation, the process often presents different levels of challenge to claimants.
Listening is not always necessary, and however, it can be of great benefit to your case. This hearing is where your attorney can represent and present evidence and details of the accidents and injuries, pain, and suffering caused as a result.
A trained legal practitioner with knowledge of labor compensation laws and procedures can assist victims while pursuing compensation.
Conclusion
A workers' compensation claim is a complex process, and you have to deal with your claim while suffering the pain of your injury and losing happiness due to the inability to do the things you loved, not something you have to go through on your own.
If you need a lawyer to get workers' compensation or have additional questions about a workers' compensation claim, talking to an experienced workers compensation lawyer at Bailey & Galyen Attorneys at Law can help.

Animal Control
That call came in the same way all the others did. Some old lady panicking about the creepy crawlies moving into to her house. You’d be surprised how much more they all screamed and shouted about the rats and mice than they ever did about the big stuff. Rats were easy. The real problems down here, this far south, were snakes and gators. This old lady had one of the real problems. But that’s my job, so I guess, that makes me the real solution.
I could have used an easier call to start the day. The night before had me feeling like a train wreck. I still smelled like damn coors light after brushing my teeth three times. I wasn’t even hungover, but my wife Lauren had made sure I didn’t get a wink of sleep. She just yelled and yelled and yelled about the trash I hadn’t taken out, and all the beer I drink, and the house we lived in, and everything else she could think of. Her voice kept playing on in my head as I got ready for work. “Why can’t you help me make this work, Danny. I can’t do this all by myself!” One bag of trash and an empty case of beer had set her off , and then the first thing I have to deal with is a goddamn gator.
Don’t get me wrong. I like my job. It gets a little crazy every once in a while, but I get a good chunk of change every month, and it definitely ain’t no cubicle job. Besides I’d handled worse calls earlier in the morning. This particular call came in about a big ol’ gator lounging around in a suburban pool. People down here in Florida love their pools, and so do these damned gators.
August was coming on strong, but it was still hot enough to cook an egg on the asphalt. The trees that usually stood up tall all sagged with the weight of the thick heavy air. The swamp that is central Florida was green for miles except for the rusty red of roadkill. This dead raccoon lying near the median looked just like Lauren’s meatloaf, probably smelled just more appetizing. I really hope I didn’t get any of the raccoon-loaf on my tires She’s home all day, she could cook something half-way decent, but it’s always meatloaf. Just thinking about the smell turned my stomach. Usually a beer would calm it back down, but I couldn’t afford some cop catching me with another open container.
I rolled down my windows to let the wind in. The only times the air feels cool this time of the year is when you’re driving with the windows down. This was one of the best perks of my job. Folding myself back into the big pillowy seats of the huge animal control truck and watching the world roll out in front of my tires. The slim black road ahead of me looked just like one of those small black bush snakes winding through the trees. I followed it as it slithered up to the pastel pink and blue suburbs. I drove slow as I passed house after house that looked almost identical, counting down the numbers on the mailboxes to know where I was going.
Lauren would want to buy a house here. This was the kind of place she loved, but I wasn’t going to hear anymore of it. This place made my skin crawl and my spine stand on edge. I could feel the ridges of my back push into the seat behind me. This place didn’t feel natural out here in the middle of swampland. I started counting address numbers again, and realized that I had almost missed the bright pink house that matched the address dispatch had given me.
I turn into the driveway, park, and pop open my door. Right as I stepped out onto the lawn a woman rushed out from the front door. “Thank god you’re here!” she said. A small dog jumped up at the door behind her. I don’t know how such a small dog can be so loud, but damn If I lived next door I’d have to kill it. At least Lauren hated those yip dogs too. The chick, whose name was drowned out by the constant barking, showed me around to the other side of the house where her pool was.
The backyard was pretty trashed. The fence around the yard had an alligator sized hole broken out of it. There was a pretty clear set of tracks pointing to the screen around the pool. You wouldn’t need the tracks though. The alligator was just lounging in the water by the edge of the pool. Grab him a beer and some sunglasses and he looked like somebody I’d hang out with. I guessed he was about five feet long, not really all that big compared to the other gators I handled, but he was heavy and in the pool he was fast.
First things first, I blocked of the hole in the fence so that he didn’t go out for a jog around the neighborhood. I sent the lady back into the house out of the way. Just like the suburbs weren’t no place for a gator, catching a gator was no place for people from the suburbs. I was going to need people that knew what they were doing to help me get this job done. I radioed in for two more animal control agents to drive on out. While they were on there way I started getting ready. There were only two things I needed before I was ready to take on the gator. The first was my snatch stick. If I were a cowboy, it’d be my lasso. In my hands the cord at the end of its six foot long pole could shut the gators mouth and keep him from using any of his shiny teeth. My other tool was called a gator thumper. If the gator got too ornery and we couldn’t capture it the thumper would crush its skull with a heavy metal baton shot out by a spring. I made my way back to the pool with my gear.
The patio was big, maybe twenty-twentyfive feet across. The pool was dead in the center, long and deep. The pool water wasn’t moving at all as the gator floated out to the middle. I took that chance to walk around the patio and get in position for when my help arrived. It’d be easy to pull the gator out with three of us. I’d be able to by myself, but better safe than sorry. The lady knocked on her sliding glass door behind me and opened just a crack. She had her eyes fixed on the gator but she was talking to me. “please be careful on my porch; the plants I keep out there are fragile.” So I looked over and said “Is there anything we need to move before we start throwing the three hundred pound alligator around on your porch?” I didn’t expect her to say yes or to ask me to move the Hydrangeas inside. I don’t even know what the hell a hydrangea is. I just picked up the pot she was pointing at and carried it carefully over to the door. She pulled the door open to take the damn pot.
That’s when it all went wrong. That tiny little mutt shot straight out of the door, barking like it was possessed, and went right up to the end of the pool. The chick went to chase the dog out of instinct. She went to move past me, but I threw the hydrangea at her and grabbed my snatch stick. If anyone was gonna save this dog it was going to be me. If I could just hook the snatch stick around the yap dogs throat I could yank it away from the pool without getting too close the set of jaws and teeth in the pool. the gator started moving around to face the little snack that was shouting “Eat me! Eat me!” right at the end of the water.
I saw the green scaly shape in the water start sliding in under the surface. Hell I’d be pissed off if somebody that size started yelling at me for sunbathing too. He probably has a right to eat that little dog, but it wouldn’t look very good for me to let the dog get snatched while the lady watched. I threw out the lasso. Caught the dog by the throat. That’d shut it up.
The gator smashed through the pane of water and sent shards of water up into the air. The droplets stinging like little teeth leaving bite marks on my skin.
I pulled the dog back with every muscle I could pull with. I thought I’d hit the ground holding the little shit dog on the end of the stick. In mid pull I stopped. Like I’d hit a wall. The world flipped upside down. I could feel my boots try to find something to stand on in mid-air. The entire pool fell on me as my world was still spinning. Everything was being whipped around in every direction as I bobbed under the water. The world finally turning back up and I reached for the cement border of the patio. My wrist crunched hard onto the ground right at the same time my mouth found the air. The gator had been spinning me around under the water. The spinning stopped because it had snapped its jaw shut on my hand, and my hand was gone. There was red everywhere.
The thump of a metal baton going through a skull knocked some sense into me. Two more animal control officers had just finished my job. There wasn’t anymore barking.
*
When I got home from the hospital I thought things had changed; Lauren had stopped yelling, the pain meds I was on worked miracles, and I felt fine without my left hand. I was getting workers comp checks to pay for everything we needed. When the doctor took me off the pain pills it started all falling apart. Lauren went back to yelling. I went back to work.
Lauren just kept yelling. Always about the trash. The trash and the beer.
I had just gotten home from work. The house smelled like meatloaf, again. I opened the door. She started yelling about the beer boxes by the door.
So I picked up the boxes and walked through the living room to the kitchen. Grabbed a cold beer, and then gathered every single bag of trash in the house. I took it all out the back door to my truck.
She was still yelling at me. From the other side of the glass door. I saw her reach down and lock me out.
“you get that shit to the dump Danny. Right now. Not later. Not Tomorrow. Now” Yapping at me just like that fucking little dog.
This was my yard. What right did she have to fucking yell at me. I dropped the trash and whipped around facing the door. She was still yelling. Our tiny flat green lawn had trash everywhere. I started slowly towards the door. She didn’t even flinch. I walked straight to that little pane of glass, glaring straight through it. All she could do was yap and yell and yap some more. I put my one good hand through that glass, sending shards spraying into the air. leaving little slashes across her face.
The glass in the door spat out in the shape of a pair of jaw, big and powerful. The sharp edges of teeth pointed into flesh to find blood. They sunk in deep.
I grabbed her by the arm and pulled her though back through the door. The world rolled us over as she pulled against me and fell, throwing me off balance. We rolled through the pool of broken glass and the green of the grass turned wet red. She fought back: kicked, hit, twisted. I held tight. She stopped struggling and I let her fall on the grass. The whole world was red. Sirens were whining down the street. The was no quiet anywhere.
my skin was stiff and numb against the grass.
I could have moved that gator. it didn’t have to be put down.

Weed is a Controversy
Tumblr media
Since I was a teenager, I remember drugs being a highly controversial topic all around the united states. There are various people with different perspectives, ideas and thoughts on this topic. Some agree that it should be legal all across and others agree that it shouldn’t be legal. There are people that try to defend their argument saying that its part of their medication, that we’re being unthoughtful and that it helps the consumers have a better control of themselves.  In my personal opinion, I believe anyone can consume anything prescribed or illegal drug whenever they want too; but in their home somewhere where their safe and they don’t harm any of their peers that are around. But when we talk about drugs in the workplace, I believe everyone should be 100% sober. Having prescribed drugs, is something that the consumer knows when to take and at what time; he/she should accommodate their schedule according to their prescribed drug’s. Now in the other hand, if the consumer is taking illegal drugs, he knows better than being intoxicated during work hours specially when it’s still illegal. Drugs will always be drugs, no matter if they’re prescribed or illegal, they all have side effects. Every time you take your drug, you’re taking a risk to seeing if it’s going to function like it’s supposed to or not.
Every drug has their pros and cons. Some people use them for medication purposes, others use it illegally to adventure, experience, try to be cool, have “fun” or whatever their case may be. Now, don’t get me wrong I’m all forward for people to take prescribed drugs as requested by doctors in their home. But when you take it outside your house door, there’s the problem. People who are consuming any type of drug illegally or prescribed should stay home. Co-workers and customers should be comfortable when talking to you or being near around you. Nobody wants to smell you or see you acting different than others. People in your workplace just want to feel safe because drugs affect the persons behavior. Being intoxicated at work can also result for you to have less productivity, it can increase a higher risk of you getting in an accident or causing an accident that could harm others and yourself. The National Safety Council says “THC in marijuana affects depth perception, reaction time, coordination and other motor skills, and it creates sensory distortion. For someone operating machinery, driving a forklift or delivering products in a vehicle, these effects can be deadly; employees who tested positive for marijuana had 55% more industrial accidents, 85% more injuries, and 75% greater absenteeism compared to those who tested negative.” Being intoxicated at work shows the increase in accidents. Another bad factor is that the employer can neglect workers comp. After an accident has occurred there’s always a screening after the accident to examine your body. In some cases, the workers' compensation is neglected due to being intoxicated. The J. Franklin Burns P.C Workers’ Compensation Attorneys at Law back me up in this by saying “Employer/Insurer can use the positive drug screen as a basis for denying any claim for workers’ compensation made by the injured worker. This is called a rebuttable presumption.”

To all the anons who left notes in my box, as well as everyone else: Those were really nice to wake up to this morning, so thank you. It was really nice to see that you guys aren’t expecting too much from me right now. I just feel bad because in the past I have been able to deliver and keep that brutal pace up.
I just... I can’t right now and it’s highly frustrating.
Ima make a cut so this doesn’t get overly long, but I’ll fill you guys in a bit more if you want to continue to read. If not, that’s cool, too. Just know that I really appreciate every one of you. Don’t be afraid to drop notes and say hi either lol
So, yeah, hey if you’re still here.
Anyway, long story short (or short recap if you’ve been here a while) It’s now been a year since I had my first surgery, was just the other day, yet I am still no where near to being over this crap. So, here’s the rundown: I had/have bilateral cubital tunnel and yes, it’s just as annoying and obnoxious as it sounds.
I have had to have surgery on both of my arms (the shorter surgery where they go in and release the nerve and move it. Only takes, at most, 2 hours) and my kids friends think I am weird because I know longer have funny bones. I guess that’s kinda neat, I can slam my elbows on things and it doesn’t DO anything -_-
Anyway.
Left arm (March surgery): Some nerve damage in my pinkie, but overall, good to go. Scar is fading and shit looks about as okay as it’s going to get. Awesome cause I am left handed. Can still write. Double bonus!
Right arm (May surgery): Hand is fine, nerve function is 100%! Awesome news right?! Well, not exactly. While the surgery was a success, the nerve didn’t quite stay were it was supposed to and so now every time I move my right arm, the nerve rubs against the muscle of my upper arm. (My doctor explained it to me, but there were colored markers and shitty drawings, so I am sorry for my shitty explanation here) So even though the wound healed and the surgery was technically a success, it wasn’t. The swelling just won’t go down and the scar is still red and inflamed.
This means more surgery and this time they have to go in and do the more complicated surgery where they will lift up the muscle of my arm and put the nerve under it so that this kinda thing doesn’t happen. This is a less common surgery and a bit more extensive because the first surgery usually works.
So, here’s how this entire thing has gone. First I am about twenty years TOO YOUNG to even get this crap; it usually doesn’t start to appear until the mid fifties. Second, I am in the 1-2% of patients, that despite showing and having all the external symptoms, the pain, swelling, numbness, the nerves themselves show no sign of deterioration. Go figure. And on top of all that, I am in the like 1% that needs the more complex surgery. It’s so uncommon that even though my surgeon knows how to do it, he’s never actually done one and wants me to get a second opinion and possibly have the surgeon who trained him do it.
Oh. Yeah. And it’s all through Workman’s Comp.
Have you ever had to deal with them? Don’t ever get injured at work, I tell you what. It has been a major headache the entire time and I ended up having to hire a lawyer. My WC worker actually said to me at one point, “You’re telling me you can’t go run a cash register?” Yes; yes I am. The injury I have is from REPETITIVE STRESS AND MOTION. What do you do when you run a cash register?
Having the lawyer is nice because I don’t have to deal with WC directly, but it’s still very frustrating and things that should be done are not getting done. Like it took almost 3 months for me to get an MRI done and 5 months for me to get my FCE (Functional Capacity Evaluation) from Physical Therapy. And they are stalling yet again on my referral so I can (unfortunately) get more surgery done.
And this morning I had to go see the doctor that WC appointed a second time and he’s an asshole and despite also being an orthopedic surgeon, he is completely ignoring the issue here and is like, but you can lift up to 50 pounds. Yes, yes, I can. That as never been the issue. It’s the amount of times I lift the 50 pounds that’s the problem. But he doesn’t care, he scribbled on his paper, like fucking dismissed me like I have no idea what I am talking about and left the room. It took me about an HOUR to drive to this guy for him to talk over me for 15 minutes. Like, seriously, my appointment was at 8, I was back in my car by 8:20.
Then, of course, there is my daily life, my kids, my dog, my cats, school, homework, the fact I can’t seem to sleep, not having the time or want to write and just the general fuckary of getting ANOTHER 22 inches of snow in less than 24 hours. And I can’t seem to fucking beat the blight ganon of Naboris!
I want to do more, I really do. I want to write and interact with everyone, I just, something has to give and unfortunately it’s been Tumblr. And I am sorry.
This got longer than I wanted, but yeah, that’s my fuck show of a life right now.
