Went through hell yesterday trying to get to #Berlin, but due to the bad weather + @ryanair strikes, our flight was cancelled at the last minute, & unfortunately, there weren’t any replacement flights for several days or for a reasonable price. Being stuck in #London to make sure we wouldn’t mess up our plans to get to @rebellionfestival, lucky for us our friends @thebarstoolpreachers played last night! Also ran into the @badcopbadcop ladies last night out front because they were the surprise guest! Barring a Stephen Soderbergh wonkfest about how James Holzhauer money-balled “Jeopardy” before our eyes, the game show movie may actually be a dead genre—a Hollywood relic about a time when more people ogled the same network entertainment. 

But this week on Be Reel—for the 25th anniversary of Robert Redford’s “Quiz Show”—we look back at a trio of game show movies to see what they claim about mass media, the gamification of life, and the thrill of watching someone allegedly just like us take the house for everything it’s worth.

06/06/17 - Massive thank you, some stuff cancelled, some stuff added, Wonkfest 4: The Movie

As you probably already know if you’ve been on any of our social media bullshit over the past week or so, we had a bit of a rough time coming back from El Topo Goes Loco Fest in Belgium. A deer came out of nowhere on the way to the ferry port, the car was totaled, we lost a shitload of money and got stuck there for a couple of days. Thankfully an insane amount of really nice people spread the word, donated money to us and bought merch from our Bandcamp, so we’re in a much better position than we were, can start getting back to normal and we can’t thank you all enough. Massively appreciated. I’ll start sending those orders out this week. Also, special thanks to our old friends at Monster Zero Records for donating their sales money from the past few days to us. Goomba and Co are too kind and we love them.

Due to our current situation, we’re unfortunately going to have to cancel on Aberdeen this coming Saturday and also Exeter next Thursday so that we can get our shit together. Really sorry for any disappointment, but we’ll definitely reschedule. We’ve also had to delay some recording we had coming up this month, but we’ll get that rescheduled and have info on a few new releases soon. 

We got the rest of the details of our short run of German shows next month which are now listed in the tour dates section on here.  Everything else tour-wise that’s already been announced is still going ahead as planned, so we’ll still make it to the US (just added the Triple Rock in Minneapolis to the tour dates section, more coming soon), Germany again later this year and do the UK stuff from June 24th onwards.

We’re doing something a little different this month with our featured stream. Raging Nathans, from Dayton, OH, just released their third full-length Oppositional Defiance on July 24. While that record is already available, SPB has the exclusive on its companion piece, Live From Wonkfest. The band is including a free 7” with all vinyl orders. The 7” contains material from their 2019 set at Wonkfest at The Dome (London, UK). The recording was mixed by Simon Short (Lyoness, Wonk Unit) and features six songs that total just under 10 minutes, for a taste of the band’s live prowess and personality. With a “bootleg-style” design, it serves both to showcase The Raging Nathans’ live feel (in a year, so far, without live music) and to give fans something a little more special to pair with the new LP. Or, as Josh Goldman (guitar/vocals) puts it: We thought it would be punk as fuck to give away a free 7” with every order of our new LP. Get a first listen here: via Scene Point Blank music news feed
