#4 - Sandwing chapter
Astute viewers may be tempted to point out that this rendering of Qibli is wearing his earring in the wrong ear. This is an intentional nod to the graphic novel depiction, which does something interesting with that entire thing. He starts wearing the earring in his right ear, but then it gets torn out during the fight with Icicle. In the next issue, that ear is scarred and he starts wearing it in his left ear instead. It's possible this also happens in the books, it's admittedly been a while since I read them front-to-back, so my memory on that is fuzzy. But I always thought that was a cool detail. And since Icicle is still present here, these pictures must have been... uh... "taken" before she absconded. Hence the earring in the right ear.
Also, with 20 out of 36 students done, this now puts us across the halfway mark.

Some Io headcanons
Okay so Io is my projection character so- some of these are just bc i said so-
Io is genderfluid, Ace, Demigrayaro
She one of the more confident and clever Silkwings.
Local Chrysalis Mom-
It never says what she does as a job as far as I can remember so. I imagine she did a lot of odd jobs before becoming a worker at a propaganda print shop. Its how she gets all the details on Hivewing bullshit
She loves the fact Blue cares for people but she wishes he’d understand why Silkwings arent fond of Hivewings.
I feel like her and Cobra Lily could be friends (Should I write that? I should I really should. Maybe as a pairing maybe platonic idk)
Io likes art a lot but she sometimes has a hard time enjoying any art because one it costs a trip to Jewel Hive and two she knows its coated in propaganda.
She loves Swordtail but he knows like jack shit about her and she almost feels bad about it.
I feel like she must have some friends herself and despite not being true to herself around her brother, her brothers gf, and her brother’s gfs brother she still cares about them and likes hanging out with them.
Argus use to slip her into the Jewel Hive for trips.
Cinnabar is probably her best friend along with Tau even if she worries about Tau’s relationship with Treehopper.
Io and Cinnabar are the only two bitches keeping the Chrysalis together at this point, get them help please-
Io was caught by Hivewings when she let blue escape but Tau and Cinnabar got her out.
She tries to be more expressive but thats hard for her.
She met Grayling once and she thinks he’s neat and briefly thought about setting him up with Blue should Blue ever be moved to the Bloodworm Hive.
She personally would have been okay moving to the Jewel Hive.

My first Copper winglet comic!
According to the books, Coconut is not smart-or anything else really (I’d like to change that). And I haven’t had a chance to reread the books so I’m hoping it’s not too out of character that Mindreader is rude in a sly way. In the beginning she was the mean one in the group and enjoy insulting Coconut who doesn’t even know it’s being done.

I was inspired by the words of @roselinproductions that the other winglets of Jade Mountain Academy (a intertribal school in the second series of Wings of Fire) needed attention. So looking over them I picked the Copper Winglet because with the exception of Mindreader they didn’t have much to do in the books (and none of them died) but what little info I got looked really fun to work with. I look forward to getting the time to draw this group and their adventures soon!
