Sméagol and the Gift
'Now!' said Sam. 'At last I can deal with you!' He leaped forward with drawn blade ready for battle. But Gollum did not spring. He fell flat upon the ground and whimpered.
'Don't kill us,' he wept. 'Don't hurt us with nassty cruel steel! Let us live, yes, live just a little longer. Lost lost! We're lost. And when Precious goes we'll die, yes, die into the dust.'
Devastated by this. Just a little longer, he begs. Even though his existence is a torment. Even though the will that holds him to life is barely his own anymore. He has long outlived his time but it's such a cruelty that now the only freedom for him is in death. I'm glad Sam didn't kill him but the whole scenario is awful.
When a mortal keeps a ring of power he does not gain more life, he continues, denied natural mortality as the fear of death is amplified and twisted into fear of separation, nothing matters anymore but the keeping, the continuing. In that miserable existence there is no peace, and at its end there is no graceful goodbye to life, there is only dust. Sudden, empty, and final.
It would take murder to spare him that. Or falling with the ring into the fire.
Bilbo let it go in time (did he feel anything when it was destroyed?) Frodo is freed of it now, though the toll it extracted for the separation was at very least a finger. It was too late for Gollum for the price to be anything other than it was, and that's brutal.
If you live long enough, death is no longer the enemy. What Sauron did to Gollum ensured that it would always be the enemy, to be feared and avoided for ever, once time and the ring had fashioned it into the only escape left. Evil.

behind the sea is a great song musically but i also really truly do believe it is a stellar piece of poetry. like just a pure wash of gorgeous and evocative and cohesive imagery + brilliant euphony in the verses + the serene and wistful tone enhancing its reflection on how fame shapes creative expression & directly contrasting the more cheerful sound of the outro + the “we’re all too small/smart to talk to God” lyric ALONE…like it makes sense that of all the songs on pretty. odd. that could’ve featured ryan as the lead vocalist he chose this one bc it showcases his talent and voice and growth as a lyricist so incredibly well

god i love suvi so much though. her like. tendency to invoke the Authority of a citadel wizard when shit hits the fan is actually one of my favorite things about her bc yeah she's grown up steeped in power and hierarchy!!!! it makes perfect fucking sense that she does what she does u know she went to war mage school for war mages of Course she's like that! would it have killed ame to stay put for another like. half an hour. we will never know but come on. like yes it sounds a little rough to tell a soldier to drag your friends back to you but a) she's perfect, to Me, and b) as a moment that absolutely FUCKS and i think aabria's batshit insane (extremely positive), and c) wtf else was she supposed to do there. come on

just realized i've never posted my witch hat atelier OC here! this is aurelia, a jellyfish-inspired brimhat who uses forbidden magic in the pursuit of immortality and criminally good fashion. i wanted to make a witch OC inspired by some of the trends of the 2000s while still adhering to the design conventions of WHA (to the best of my abilities, anyways). i'm hoping to flesh out more of her magic and backstory as i work on her character more, but have this for now!

gonna be real ben shapiro is just average looking he looks like an average guy like we have to stop moralising appearance I feel like every time there's a bad person you get edgy people saying "ngl they're actually super hot!!" just to feel something and then everyone responds like nononono they are UGLY because they are BAD and they are BAD because they are UGLY like. he looks like a average human being and the reason no one will ever love him is because he is a cruel and arrogant person who is nowhere near as intelligent as he thinks he is, not because he has big dark eyebrows and a kind of high pitched voice. its weird
