Peter Paul Rubens - The Wolf and Fox Hunt, 1616

Now held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It shows mounted and walking hunters chasing two wolves and three foxes. The painting was completed with the help of assistants, although the wolves were painted entirely by Rubens.

It marks the beginning of an intensive creative phase in which Rubens focused on the theme of hunting.

According to the date, this was actually the first of his so-called "Hunting Phase." I'm guessing it doesn't count because it doesn't show the women actually hunting down their prey, or the men hunting for fruit...

And after painting all those damned carnivores, Sir Peter was inspired by Pythagoras's speech in Ovid's Metamorphoses, he followed up with...

He needed help on this painting, he wasn't very good with fruit, RAW MEAT WAS his specialty after all. He needed the help of of his buddy, Frans, seriously... Frans Snyders had to paint the fruit and he received credit with Rubens on the piece.

"It was a collaboration between Rubens, who did the figures, and Frans Snyders, who did the foodstuffs. In this case Snyders painted the fruit and vegetables first and then passed the canvas over to Rubens who was careful not to paint over any of his friend's work."

See, I wouldn't make that up. Anyway, while working on the painting he became a full-blown Renaissance Pythagorean Vegetarian (RPV). Shortly after finishing the painting, he locked himself in his studio and planning to prevent partitioning of perspective profits, proceeded to polish up on his production of painted produce. Freaking unfortunate for his ill-fated friend Frans...

#txt #monster hunter #playing gen ultimate and ive been wondering what this would taste like #some monsters have real world animals that would be comparable (like bulldrome is a wild boar etc)#but some are full fantasy monsters. like this is a sea monster with thunder abilities #would the thunder sac cause its meat to have a weird taste or texture ? would its diet effect the flavour ? what parts are edible ? etc #my thoughts are maybe the tail would be good. since its a mostly aquatic animal then maybe it would be good in sea food dishes #or maybe prepared like salmon. just cooked by itself with lemon and some herbs ?#in monster hunter you have a nice meal go hunt and then carve parts from the hunted monster #but why not take some monster meat for your next pre hunt meal ? it could work..

whats your favourite less popular Meat. ans how do you prepare it (i consider u the resident meat expert on tumblr)

It's an honor

(I tend to slow cook basically anything I'm not planning on eating rare bc I like tender wet meat so there's a heavy slow cook bias here.)

My fave 'less popular meat' in the US at least (not so much the rest of the world) is goat, I prefer it over lamb by a long shot. I'll usually slow cook it in a stew with garlic+onions and heavily spice it (exactly how really depends but I use cumin in everything so that's a guarantee.)

Otherwise I really like dark game meat in general- venison, pheasant, etc. I also like it cooked slowly and allowed to get fork-tender and I really like doing a sweet-savory thing with them via a fruit based sauce and/or glaze. Wild berries if I have them (tends to be raspberries or currants in my case). I'll make the sauce with a base of berries + red wine + rosemary/thyme. The other options depend on what exact kind of sauce you're going for but you'll want something bitter/acidic to balance it out, like dijon or balsamic vinegar or something. Garlic and/or ginger is usually good. A chutney is always good too. And I prefer everything I eat to be at least mildly spicy so I'll usually include jalepeños or habenero in it.

Not AT ALL an unpopular meat but an unpopular ingredient- salmon heads make the absolute BEST fish broth imo. It is basically impossible to fuck up (unless you forget to remove the gills). For salmon broth I usually make a standard stock (using garlic onions carrots celery, all roasted together with the salmon head), let it cook for 4-5 hours. For the broth I add soy sauce, coconut milk, more garlic, green onions and/or leeks, ginger, mala, cumin, coriander, lemongrass, lime leaves if I have them, usually chili oil... Etc. Take or leave some of those ingredients but I usually end up tossing them all in to taste.

Also chicken feet I fucking love chicken feet but have yet to cook my own in a way I'm satisfied with enough to give ANY advice on lol. Just try it at a good Sichuan restaurant. (If you're someone who likes eating the skin and gnawing connective tissue off bones you will probably like chicken feet. If not you probably won't)

#I've only ever personally hunted rabbit/squirrel/grouse and cooked with them all but they're not really favorites.#There's other more niche meats I like but haven't gotten the chance to cook with myself #I would kill to cook with wild boar #That poll that inspired this makes some weird choices they're missing about 20 more obvious game meats in favor of like #'cougar' or on the other end really Not niche shit like lamb #Like do bear or something that's a predator that is actually eaten on a semi frequent basis

“If we’re going to work together...” Hades scoffed, arms crossed over his chest in annoyance.

“Then at the very least you can act civil enough to be around human society.” Why their Lord had told Hades to play babysitter to the little lower moon was beyond him. But it was not exactly in the cards to say no to a request from the Demon King.

He’d been tasked with keeping an eye on Kiba, monitor the young demons growth, and to push him toward getting stronger. Since it was working so well with having an older demon pushing the younger, as with Upper One and his newest protege.

But why him of all demons!?

Surely their Lord could have saddled this wild child with Upper Two, or perhaps Akaza! The two’s ferocity would be unmatched.. but no. Hades was the ‘smart one’.. The ‘one who knew everything before and during’.

Naturally, this meant steering Kiba toward human targets that were.. high value. Marechi, while also covering their tracks.

“There’s two marechi in the household two homes down, so if you want to devour them, you’re going to need to play CIVIL.” He harshly whispered at the wild demon child.

“Unless you WANT to attract slayers and have another run in with the flame wielding Hashira!”
