"The Latest Trends in Gravel Bikes: Exploring the Off-Road Frontier"
Gravel bikes have become increasingly popular in recent years, with more and more riders discovering the joy of exploring off-road terrain. These versatile bikes are designed to handle a variety of surfaces, from smooth pavement to rough gravel and dirt roads, and can be used for everything from commuting to racing. In this article, we'll take a look at the current trends in gravel bikes and what riders can expect in the coming years.
First, let's define what a gravel bike is. A gravel bike is a type of bicycle that is designed for riding on unpaved or rough roads. They are similar to road bikes in many ways, but with a few key differences. Gravel bikes typically have wider tires, a more relaxed geometry, and are designed to be more comfortable for longer rides on uneven terrain. They also often have disc brakes, which offer better stopping power and more consistent performance in wet or muddy conditions.
One of the biggest trends in gravel bikes right now is the move towards wider tires. In the past, most gravel bikes came with tires that were around 35-40mm wide, but now it's becoming more common to see bikes with 45mm or even 50mm tires. This trend towards wider tires is driven by a desire for more comfort and better handling on rough roads. Wider tires provide more cushioning and better traction, which can make a big difference on bumpy or loose terrain.
Another trend in gravel bikes is the use of more advanced materials. Carbon fiber has been a popular choice for high-end road bikes for years, but it's only recently become more common in the world of gravel bikes. Carbon fiber is lighter and stiffer than aluminum, which can make for a more efficient and responsive ride. However, it can also be more expensive and less durable than aluminum, so it's important to consider the trade-offs before making a purchase.
One of the most exciting trends in gravel bikes is the rise of electronic shifting. Electronic shifting systems use motors and sensors to change gears, rather than relying on traditional cables and levers. This can offer more precise and reliable shifting, as well as the ability to shift from multiple positions on the bike. Electronic shifting has been available on high-end road bikes for several years, but it's only recently become more common on gravel bikes.
Gravel racing is another trend that's been growing in popularity in recent years. Gravel races are typically long-distance events that take place on unpaved or rough roads, with riders covering anywhere from 50 to 200 miles in a single day. These events can be challenging, but also incredibly rewarding, with riders pushing themselves to the limit in some of the most beautiful and remote parts of the country. Gravel racing has been called the "new frontier" of cycling, and it's likely to continue growing in popularity in the coming years.
Finally, there's the trend towards customization and personalization. Gravel bikes are often seen as a blank canvas, with riders adding their own touches to make the bike their own. This can include things like custom paint jobs, unique components, and even custom frame geometry. Gravel bikes offer a lot of flexibility in terms of setup, so riders can tailor their bikes to their specific needs and preferences.
In conclusion, gravel bikes are a versatile and exciting category of bicycles that offer riders a unique way to explore off-road terrain. The current trends in gravel bikes include wider tires, advanced materials like carbon fiber, electronic shifting, gravel racing, and customization. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just looking to try something new, a gravel bike is a great choice for anyone looking to explore the outdoors on two wheels.

building off of this post, people love to say that “trans men want to keep going into in women’s spaces after they transition because they just want to have the best of both worlds!” but in my experience, there are four main reasons that a trans man might use a “women’s space” after they transition:
it’s an important resource that’s being arbitrarily gendered and we need to use it regardless of which gender is “supposed to” be using it.
it’s a public facility where we’d be significantly less safe in the men’s version and we have to choose our safety over our desire to not be misgendered.
it’s a social space that we’ve been in since before we transitioned and we don’t want to suddenly be cut off from our friends and support system.
the trans man in question is multigender and is also a woman, or maintains some other kind of connection to womanhood alongside their manhood.
do any of those sound like “evil men rubbing our dirty little hands together making plans for how we’re going to get male privilege without losing access to women’s spaces” to you? they sure don’t to me!
i think it’s pretty reasonable that we want to transition without losing the ability to access the resources we need, keep ourselves safe, keep up the relationships we’ve built, and express all facets of who we are. all of those are really, like, pretty basic parts of having good life and we shouldn’t be expected to give them up when we transition.
and honestly, if you claim to care about trans people, you should not be so attached to the gendering of these spaces that you’re willing to deny trans men those things for the sake of upholding gender restrictions. anyone who prioritizes the sanctity of gender segregated spaces over the safety, health, and well-being of trans men is a fucking transphobe. (yes, even if you’re trans yourself.)
and that’s what really gets me about all of this — the vehemence with which people are willing to defend those spaces being entirely and inflexibly gendered, despite how enforcement of gendered spaces has hurt trans people time and time again. gendered spaces have literally always been set up in ways that force trans people to break the rules; some trans men might break those rules in ways that don’t make sense to you, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong for us to do so! it just means you might feel weird about it and that’s okay, discomfort won’t kill you.
“but using women’s spaces after transitioning to male defeats the purpose of transitioning! the whole point of transitioning is to be able to live as a man!”
and who are you to tell trans men what the point of our transitions should be? what if the purpose of us transitioning is just to live the happiest and most fulfilled life possible, and forcing ourselves into unsafe spaces or denying ourselves access to important resources or cutting ourselves off from important people in our lives or pushing down the more complex parts of our genders would “defeat the purpose of transitioning” for us? what if being able to go where cis men go is just one part of a much bigger journey, not the end goal?
if you really want to talk about “defeating the purpose,” let’s talk about how policing which gendered spaces trans men can access defeats the purpose of trying to stop cis people from policing which gendered spaces trans people can access, because it allows the policing of trans people in gendered spaces to continue in some form instead of eliminating it altogether. let’s talk about how using “evil men invading women’s spaces” rhetoric against trans men defeats the purpose of trying to stop cis people from using it against trans women, because it allows the rhetoric to continue in some form instead of eliminating it altogether.
the point of saying “let people decide which gendered space is right for them” isn’t to make sure everyone uses the one aligned with their “true gender,” it’s to let people do what’s best for them without punishing them for their choice. sometimes the best choice is one that seems wrong from the outside, and you need to learn to live with that.
i just think we as a community need to be more hostile toward people who think upholding the sanctity of a gendered space is more important than giving trans people the freedom to move through the world without being punished for existing in those gendered spaces. that kind of thinking is fucking dangerous and it’s weird as hell that some of y’all are so comfortable with it being directed at us.
moral of the story: stop giving so much of a shit about where a trans man decides to piss or see a doctor or hang out or whatever else. even if you think he doesn’t belong there, he probably has a good reason to be there anyway, and that reason is frankly none of your damn business.

There's something at the tip of my tongue about the parallels between Jackie and Wilson and Who We Are
How the narrator of Jackie and Wilson wants to run away with a woman that he's carved out of his imagination based on a brief interaction. How they would try the world, but good god it wasn't for them. So they run away from it into a fantasy world where they live by their own rules.
And then comes the narrator of Who We Are, who dreamt his whole life of finding someone who would hold him like water or like a knife, only to find that running away from the world will only get them so far, since "the hardest part is who we are". And only to find out that the "phantom life" he's fantasized about is actually just that: a phantom. And its absence sharpens like a knife

New Zelda idea!
Ok, so this idea has kind of been simmering in my head but it’s getting entertaining now so I’m sharing it.
OC Zelda and Link!
Princess Zelda is a bold and beautiful young woman trying to prepare for ruling her kingdom. She is famous of her commanding personality, for her magical strength which comes as easily as breathing, and for being decisive. When a prophet speaks of impending doom and monster attacks are on the rise, Zelda goes to the Temple of Time with sacred artifacts to utilize the Triforce and stop the darkness before it can start.
However, when she tries to touch the Triforce it shatters into three pieces.
Zelda is stupefied and horrified. Why would it do such a thing? The Triforce only splits for those who are unworthy, and she of all people is freaking worthy ok???
But she isn’t. She’s left with only one piece: Power.
Humiliated but not defeated, she decided that she must seek out the bearers of the other two pieces so they can bring peace to the kingdom. This causes friction with her mother, who has been trying for years to reel her daughter’s pride in.
Zelda: I have to seek them out so I can fix this! Queen: You can fix this by fixing yourself. The Triforce deemed you unworthy, incapable of handling such a task. Zelda: Are you saying that I’m incapable of this? Queen: The goddesses are saying you are incapable.
Least to say, their relationship is a bit strained.
On her journey, she seeks out young men named Link. Legend says that was the hero’s name, and clearly he probably has a way to either help her find the missing Triforce pieces or he bears one of them.
Of course, the problem is that half the kingdom names their sons Link.
Zelda naturally thinks she can figure this out with her powers, so the first Link she finds she basically chaotically strong arms into joining her.
Zelda: So your name is Link, right? Link: Uh… yes, Your Highness. Zelda: Perfect! You’ll help me with my quest. Link: Um… I’m not exactly a hero, Your Highness. Zelda: Nonsense! I can sense the magic within you. You’re stronger than you know. Now, come along, destiny is calling! There is darkness looming and we must stop it. Link: I’m, uh, a masseuse. Zelda: Link: Zelda: Well I could use a massage anyway, so come on!
So Zelda and her legendary masseuse travel across the land seeking other Links, though none of the others seem to stick like the first one does. Zelda can sense that there’s something different about him, though she doesn’t know what. Maybe the fact that he’s Gerudo makes a difference? Meh.
Anyway, they eventually end up in the Lost Woods because legend claims that the Master Sword is there. Link’s not about this place, naturally, but the pair goes in. They find a dungeon and both nearly die while screaming and holding each other because Zelda relies solely on her magic and Link is… a masseuse. But just as they’re about to be killed a man comes in and saves them. He escorts them out, alongside his trusty doggo, and bids them adieu despite Zelda asking him eighty thousand times who he is and if his name is Link.
Yeah, his name is Link. No, he won’t go on your awesome Quest To Save the World. He and doggo are happy in the Lost Woods, thanks. But Zelda is determined, and poor Masseuse Link gets dragged into her schemes to try and recruit Mystery Link. He’s a fighter and she can sense something about him too.
Long story short, Zelda has the Triforce of Power, Ganondorf Gerudo Link has the Triforce of Courage, and Actual Mystery Link has the Triforce of Wisdom. Zelda has to learn to become a better, more well rounded person to be able to wield all three pieces. Link the Masseuse has to learn to face his people’s past and his legacy. Link the Wanderer has to learn to love life again.
Anyway. Yeah.

maybe my job is just rotting my brain but I’m ngl the bits that little kids do are so fucking funny to me sometimes. today we had a three year old girl who kept handing my coworker different pretend foods from the kitchen but then every time after my coworker took a fake bite she would shout “IT HAS CORN IT IT!!!” and giggle furiously (the joke being that the food being served Should Not have corn in it). like. “here’s your tea!! 🥰 HAHA IT HAS CORN IN IT!!” and I don’t fucking know why but for some reason it killed me. I was like damn she would do numbers on tumblr.
