Kawabe is crushed by machinery and there is no doctor or anaesthetic. His teacher has to free him and stitch him up before he suffers more blood loss and his friends have to hold him down when he is being rescued

new whump recommendation!!

you all should check out “half bad: the bastard son & the devil himself” on Netflix! with only one season comprised of eight episodes, this show is intense and incredibly whumpy!

synopsis: in a fantasy world where witches and magic powers are real, we follow a teenager named Nathan Byrne, who rides the line between the oppressive Fairborn Witches and the rebellious Blood Witches. Nathan’s mother is a Fairborn who died via alleged suicide, and his father is a dangerous and infamous Blood serial killer, of whom Nathan is prophesied to kill. in this world, witches get their powers when they turn 17 by drinking the blood of a relative - and because Nathan has barely any living family left, he has merely a week to find Byrne blood before he dies (!!). Nathan spends the season being hunted by both witch races alongside new friends/lovers Annalise and Gabriel, experiencing physical pain, torture, and emotional anguish in nearly every episode.

unfortunately this show was cancelled after one season, but I think it’s still really stellar and well-written! besides being wonderfully whumpy, it has some great representation of POC and queer characters (and polyamorous rep👀) and tells an interesting and morally complex story.

anyway! if you haven’t seen and are looking for new whump, this show is short and jam-packed with content! + I’m not one to make whump lists, but I binged this whole show in a day and really enjoyed it, so if anybody wants a list lemme know and I can get started on it!

Day 7: Favourite whump stories

I have a list of recommended stories; most of my favourites are on there!

But in addition, because I've linked that list before... Here are five ongoing stories I've been reading and enjoying recently (though I'm not caught up on all of them):

Hamster Interactive Story by @whumpinthepot

G/t whump is hit-or-miss for me, but this one's definitely a hit, and a lot of fun. It's an illustrated(!) CYOA; most of the whump so far has been environmental, which I enjoy.

Author's intro: Hamster is a palm sized girl who is kept as a pet by a bubbly human named Ashley. Ashley is often at work during the day, leaving Hamster in her small cage for hours at a time with very little to do. Hamster gets lonely while Ashley’s gone, and wishes she could meet someone her own size so they can become real friends. Little does she know, someone is already watching her from inside the house.

Immortal Cannon Fodder by @pigeonwhumps

Immortal whump is always a good time (well - not for the characters), and this is no exception. Great team dynamics and tentative friendships.

Author's intro: Phoenix, an immortal hero, joins a team that hurts them and uses them as cannon fodder. But their teammates are only doing what's necessary to help them all survive. Phoenix's regular sacrifices are necessary. And it's not like they've got anywhere else to go anyway.

It takes the arrival of Kai, a wolf-shifter and telekinetic, to help them see what's going on. But a friendship and a promised eventual transfer can't fix everything.

Another, and different, take on immortal whump - here, it's less about a character's immortality enabling severe suffering of various sorts, and more about the immortality itself causing pain. Not that there isn't other unpleasantness going on too. :')

Nightmare's Shadow by @lilac-whump

D&D-inspired fantasy whump is always close to my heart, and this quest for freedom and vengeance is a blast to read.

Author's intro: Inrissa is a tiefling who was enslaved from childhood, then escaped and killed her captors to embark on a quest to get her enchanted collar removed and kill the smith who forged it. Contains emotional whump, torture, slavery, dehumanization, betrayals, and death.

Oasis by @theres-whump-in-that-nebula

I'm not entirely sure what genre this best belongs in, but it has a dreamy, somewhat surreal atmosphere with a slowly building sense of Wrongness. Excellent descriptions of the environment, and from a perspective I rarely encounter on here - first person.

Author's intro: A person finds themselves transported to a beautiful, but strange world. Written in diary format.

It's about a vampire (Kane) whumper-turned-whumpee and his former whumpee (Jim) who becomes his caretaker. There are...so many dynamics here. oh my gosh.

Things End | People Change by @whumpcloud ~another~ vampire whumper turned whumpee thing, this time with little wet paper bag man Vincent (the vampire) and his former bloodbag Clary who is way less nice than Jim and honestly, she's so valid for that

Riot Kings by @befuddled-calico-whump it's a comic! so there's blood art! and scars! but yeah it's about a revolutionary / rebellion group leader who gets captured and tortured and then rescued by his enemies and things just don't go well for him ever. also its in space

Nothing Boy by @sadcatjae waaaaa this one is so. oh my gosh. again its a whumper turned whumpee fic (are you sensing a theme here) with a guy who was the torturer for this evil overlord type dude but then he ends up getting tortured himself and then gets captured and has to interact with the people he tortured and its just a whole thing. stunning writing style i will never forget it for as long as i live

Penumbra by @whumpflash kind of cheating with this one because whumpflash is also @befuddled-calico-whump but its just too good not to list here. its about the evil overlord this time! but actually he's literally just some guy who got in way over his head and made a lot of bad decisions out of desperation that ultimately made things so much worse and then he ends up with the reputation of a despot and is tortured close to death. (you can't kill him at the end tho or i will riot)

i can't think of any more (except for that android one where the girl finds the android in the trash and repairs it, and the vampire one i read like sooo many years ago that was written by a now-abandoned account about the vampire that was left out in the sun and tortured and then was taken in by some guy who was supposed to do experiments on the vampire but ended up becoming a caretaker instead) so if you didn't get mentioned i am sorry 😌

Synopsis: In a parallel present where the latest technology is a “Synth” (an eerily humanoid service robot), a struggling family purchases one of their own, only to find that there’s more to her than meets the eye. Meanwhile, a mysterious young man aims to reunite his family.

Note: This show is honestly amazing, but I have to warn y’all, it was canceled after Season 3 and never got a proper ending. It’s still a very enjoyable watch, and the whump is amazing. Colin Morgan gives an incredible performance as always, and Gemma Chan might be the highlight of this series.

TW’s: If I have any younger followers, please be careful with this show if you aren’t older than 14. It gets very dark and deals with themes of s*icide and s*xual assault (both shown on-screen at points), and has some gore and violence. One of the main characters is forced into s*x work, and there are multiple scenes involving/referencing this (especially in season 1). There is also blood and gore, though it’s not as disturbing sometimes especially since most of it involves blue-blooded robots (who can be healed fairly easily).

Do you like whump? Do you like webcomics?

For those who enjoy the visual medium, I really wanted to recommend a whumpy webcomic that doesn’t get anywhere near the love it deserves.

@bd-bandkanon’s Senhyakkin (🚨LINK HERE🚨) is a post-apocalyptic samuraipunk sci-fi set on an alien world with sapient robots, hivemind bug people and warrior people with horns. The landscape is dangerous, the wildlife wants to eat you and the robots (also known as “Skeletons”) are definitely hiding the history of this place.

Main cast includes a Big Fighty Lady, dodgy guy with Secrets, an empath with crossbow skills, a tactical genius bug dude on a mission to find his missing guardian, and a mysterious robot with memory problems. There is whump from the very first chapter, with a good mix of physical and emotional pain.

Technically this is a Kenshi fancomic, but don’t let that put you off—the author’s goal is for this to be accessible without knowledge of the source material. All characters so far are OCs with the exception of a few antagonists, and the author does a brilliant job of adding depth and detail to what was a mostly-sandbox world.

Hello! I noticed you in my inbox heheh I'm glad you liked it! Yes there is whump in 3-5, with various tropes alongside his headaches and it gets juicy let me tell you. I have been slowly re-watching the seasons as I plan to make a whump list for them too at a later date!

to be honest the carve the mark duology by veronica roth is SUCH a whump masterpiece. i always wondered why i loved that series sm besides the a little above average storytelling but great worldbuilding and now it makes sense (spoiler; it has whump.) but mind you it may be triggering for anyone who struggles/struggled with self-harm due to the fact that a common practice in the book is to carve a mark on the arm once a kill is performed. although it does have some very valid criticisms surrounding it and issues of POC, if you're solely looking for a whumpy literary ride, i recommend this. the female lead is a represent of chronic pain, living with a gift that causes her constant distress; and the male lead goes thru a series of whump events, both physical & emotional. applies for the female lead too. for example. spoilers ahead; - is kidnapped by people from another planet, watches his father die in front of his own eyes - gets beaten to shit a multitude of times (probably) - has to watch his brother be stripped of identity slowly so on. don't wanna spoil too much so i'll stop here. a lot of people don't like the book due to the seemingly slow-paced storyline. but i liked it when i read it, and to be honest it's still one of my favorites.

hey! i love your blog! i was wondering, do you have any good whumpy shows to recommend? I'm having trouble finding something that will hold my interest lately. for reference, a few of my favorite dramas (not necessarily whumpy) are psychopath diary, cherry magic, at a distance spring is green, flower of evil, bad buddy, goblin, and happiness. if you don't have anything to recommend or just don't feel up to responding to this that's totally fine! i was just wondering and thought you'd have good taste :) either way i hope you have a really really good day!

I always have shows to recommend ! I’m just not sure if you’ll like them or maybe you already saw them. According to the shows you listed you seem to like Korean and Thai BL drama. I don’t really have recommendations for Thai dramas except maybe Kinnporsche (MDL) that I really liked.

It’s prison whump, and I started reading it because there is a character named August that intrigued me because I have an oc named August as well!! This story was tragic and broke my heart and I basically read the whole thing in one go while travelling around the city, on the bus, on the ferry, at family reunions, in the park, you name it. Does anyone know about a post that’s like- whumpees who are aware of the plot? That they know it’s a fiction and that they’re subject to the whims of the writer?
