[TRANS] 200520 Solar for Marie Claire (June Issue)
Tumblr media
Your solo album’s activities ended well. Are you satisfied? Because it’s my first solo album, there was a lot of pressure. I went back to having the heart of a rookie and worked really hard preparing. But I still remember being more nervous during the first broadcast than my debut stage. There was a strong pressure that I have to do everything myself. But, as if they were anticipating it, I was really touched seeing my fans pouring everything out and supporting me.
I feel it would have been a lot more different than when you promote with your group Mamamoo. Solar’s music, not Mamamoo’s, was not known, so I wanted to make it known that Solar does this kind of music and likes this type of thing. It also feels like a process of finding my real self. I’ve gathered everything I normally wanted to do and put it into this album. Liking all genres like hard hip-hop and exciting dance, this album showed what kind of color Solar’s music can create. However, it felt empty not having my members who are always by my side. Until now, if I made slight mistakes, the other members would fill that in, but going on stage completely alone, it’s something that needs a greater responsibility than I thought.
How was the reaction from Mamamoo members who watched your stage? Wheein and Hwasa cheered me on a lot. And, (Moon) Byulie kept acting like a senior (laughs) I remember laughing a lot when I would give an opinion, she would joke a lot saying, “How dare you [say that] to a senior”
Tumblr media
On stage, your visuals stand out. Whether they’re your nails, gloves, or lipstick color, you paid attention to details. I collected a lot of various references. Because style is a part of the stage. Whether they suited me or not, I attempted bold lipstick colors. Of course, the thing I paid more attention than style was my singing. ‘Spit It Out’ live is a lot harder than you’d think, so I spent a lot of time in the practice room.
In your revealed teaser photos, the one where you had a shaved head/bald makeup garnered a lot of attention. It was intended to show my raw appearances. Of course, I can’t show all of me through that one thing, but I wanted to attempt something that I haven’t living until now.
You’re in the position where you receive judgment from the general public in every moment. Aren’t you fraid of the response to your new attempts ? Honestly, I’m scared (laughs) 99% of my company staff was actually against my shaved head makeup, too. It’s something I did because I wanted to do it, but I thought some people may not like it. I just followed my heart. I like myself being brave and attempting new things, and attempting things is one of the ways I live enjoying life.
Would it be because of the sense of accomplishment you feel after succeeding? There are people who dislike it, but, on the other hand, there are people who do like it. I’m proud when I feel my attempt is meaningful and valuable. Most of the things I do are because I don’t want to have regrets.
Tumblr media
The attitude touches on this title song, ‘Spit It Out’ It’s a song that had my thought to get on with my work with passion, even in adversity. I like fun and enjoyable things. That position also applies when I stand on stage for Mamamoo’s performances. It’s the reason why we always attempt new styles, and sing while actively communicating with the audience.
You’re consistently working on composing and writing lyrics, too. I talk about myself the most. In a past Mamamoo’s album, the song ‘Hello’ is a song where you can think about the person Solar. It’s about a lover, the first verse being what a woman says to the guy, and the second verse being what the guy says to the woman. One day, I wanted a ‘Big Booty’, so I wrote a song titled that. Rather than my writing songs with a particular style, I portray emotions or situations I experience at that moment. Our fansong, ‘Never Letting Go’ as well.
Solar also enjoys various collaborations. Is there an artist you want to meet up with in the future? While working on music, I grow musically and see the positives of other artists and learn from that, too. If I have the chance, I want to work with the musician Changmo. I listened to his song ‘Meteor’ a lot, too. The way he treats music is cool.
If you were to have a solo concert, what kind of stage do you want to create? Until now, I’ve made various attempts through solo stages as Mamamoo concerts. I’ve done pole dancing, and flew around [tied to] wires. If I was to do a solo concert, I think it’ll become a set of art performances. Like a circus (laughs) I have a lot of interest in circus performances, so I’ve looked them up myself as well. I’m usually in charge of high notes as a group, but fans have said my low notes are charming too, so I want to present a song where I can let them hear my low voice. Whatever the genre, I’m planning on changing it to my own style.
Tumblr media
It seems your attitude wanting to make various attempts are in the Youtube channel you run, ‘Solarsido’ as well. The Youtube channel name also has the meaning of ‘Solar’s challenge’. I started it at first simply because it seemed fun, but, reaching 1 year now, I think it’s now another window for me to express myself.
I feel you’d have to be diligent to run a channel. Since you have to plan, film, and edit. How do you feel about living as a Youtube for a bout a year? It matches me really well. I relieve my stress from music promotions creating Youtube videos. ‘Solarsido’ is my only hobby. So, Mamamoo’s members worry saying, ‘We need to play with Solar unnie’. But, even while having music activities, if I get an idea whenever, I create filming plans. Normally, I plan content about a month or two in advance, and Byulie occasionnaly does the filming. Editing is something that’s impossible with my own power, so my company is helping.
The way you bravely read malicious comments for your Youtube content was impressive. It’s already been 7 years since I debuted as Mamamoo. As time goes on, I’ve slowly become dulled and stronged toward malicious comments. I can tell if a malicious comment is sincere advice for me, or if it’s just criticism to criticize me. if it’s sincere advice, I’m the type to carefully listen to it.
You also showed the process of your album preparation in a vlog. The way you kept asking for advice from staff around you also stood out. When it’s difficult to make objective decisions, I always ask people around me. Occasionally, I am told, “the answer is already there, you just have to say it” (T/N : shortened phrase that basically means it’s a rhetorical question / the person asking it already has their decision made in their head), but I listen to and take in as many various opinions as I can. Because there are areas of things that I know really well, and some that I don’t. It’s for greater results.
Your ‘Yonglish’ content where you learn English is also fun. I heard you’re good at Japanese and have various certifications. Are you greedy when it comes to learning things? I’ve forgotten almost everything [I know of] japanese (laughs) Recreation leader or laugher therapist certifications were things I attempted when I was in college, suggested by my professor. At times, certifications that don’t seem to have any relation are helpful in my activites as a singer. I started leaning english because I wanted to write better lyrics, but it’s so hard that I’m at a stage where I’ve kind of given up (laughs).
What video had the best response ? I think my singing or dancing videos have the best responses. I feel happy all the time when I hear compliments.
Is there content that you want to attempt in the future ? I’ve been doing small projects so far, but I want to attempt a bit, long-term project. For instance, spending 1 night and 2 days on a deserted island (laughs)
Tumblr media
There are a lot of people waiting for Mamamoo’s album. When will we be met with a group album again? I’m not sure when it will be, but the members and I are working hard preparing. You will be able to meet another different Mamamoo that we haven’t shown before.
What do you want to do when today’s interview is over ? Eeven in this moment, I’m shooting a vlog for ‘Solarsido’, I’m thinking of organizing videos when I get home. Solo album promotions have ended, but I’m still busy. I like being busy. That way it’s Solar-like (laughs)

Could you do a mamamoo reaction to their s/o coming onto them backstage after a performance? Thanks 🖤
Thanks for the request! It's my first work with Mamamoo, hope you will like it!
CW: Hwasa's reaction is a bit smutty, but nothing really explicit
MAMAMOO REACTION : Their s/o is coming onto them backstage after a peformance
Solar | Kim Yongsun:
Tumblr media
She's too much excited. If her other members hadn't asked her to stop moving, she would be jumping everywhere. She doesn't actually know why, but she has a lot of energy today, even after performing.
Because her other members want some peace to relax after the stress and the adrenaline after her concert and because Yongsun wants very much to move, she goes outside the dressing room.
She walks a long time, jumps a bit around her, happily greeting everyone she meets (and makes some make-up artists blush a bit).
At the corner of some room, she finds you, apparently lost.
"Ahhh!" you scream. You didn't expect to find your girlfriend here. "Yongsun?"
Her face lights up, like every time she sees you. She's like a puppy every time you're here And it's even truer when she's already happy.
"[Y/N]! What are you doing here?" she exclaims.
"Well, actually I wanted to congratulate you for your performance because you were incredible but...I've lost myself," you explain as she hugs you.
She laughs a bit, listening to your quick story.
"Don't laugh!" you whine. "It's huge here, there are so many rooms and so many people!"
"I know this," pouts Youngsun. "Don't tell anyone, but it happens to be late because I was so lost," she whispers to you like it's the biggest secret of all time.
"But anyway!" she adds before you can answer to her. "Do you want to hang out tonight? I know a very cozy place with delicious meals-" As she speaks, she takes your hand and leads towards the exit.
"W-Wait Youngsun!" She slows her pace, but don't stop. "Aren't you tired? You performed so well, how can you ever have stamina?"
She pauses like she's thinking very deeply about what you say. "Well, I'm never tired for spending time with you." She laughs and starts walking again.
Once you are at the restaurant, she takes your hand, kisses her and says: "I'm very thankful you had going to see me backstage. And I wanted to take you on a date but maybe the next time we can chill in the dressing room? The sofa is sooo comfy!"
Moonbyul:
Tumblr media
She worked so hard for her solo comeback, you and she hadn't had a proper date for so long. She's sad about it and you are as well. But you're so proud of her, or how much hard work she puts in her music and she's so happy you understand how her career is important. But she craves your affection.
It is her first solo stage for her comeback "Eclipse". It's a badass concept and it suits very well your girlfriend. And her black outfits do a very good job.
When she goes back to her dressing room, she's on cloud nine. She always enjoys the cheering of her fan and how it makes her confident. However, she can't help but think something is missing: you.
If her members were here, she would be complaining about that, about she misses how you cute snores when you sleep next to her, the way you giggle when she makes a bad joke. But no one is there, except her makeup artist. So, she just pouts.
"Moonie ~ Why are you pouting?"
She almost jumps in surprise when she hears your voice and her make up artist, who was removing her make up before she moves, curses in her breath.
"[Y/N]!" she almost screams in joy and, as she jumps towards you, her make up artist gives up.
"You were incredible Moonie!" you begin to praise your girlfriend. She's very tactile, so she instantly hugs you and settles her nose in your neck.
"I'm glad you here, love," she says, smiling. "I'm sorry I was very absent these days."
"You worked so hard, it's normal!" You immediately answer. "Your dance was on top and you were so charismatic... Actually, you still are very charismatic," you add while you laugh.
"I have to perform tomorrow again," she says, holding your two hands. "But after my promoting time, how about we go on vacation? Somewhere nice, maybe in some mountains, in calm and peace."
"If it's you, I will go anywhere," you kiss her lips. "Mountains are perfect for me."
"And you are perfect."
You blush so hard she can't help but laughs hard.
"Come sleeping at home tonight!" you command ask her.
Jung Wheein:
Tumblr media
Japan is one of the countries Wheein loves the most. People scream and sing so hard, it's appealing to see how much your fans love your work.
She also really appreciates this day because it's the last concert of her tour. Don't get me wrong, she likes touring, and singing and see how people are happy to meet her. She loves the adrenaline and the particular bond with her bandmates.
But, unfortunately, one capital thing misses on this tour: you. You couldn't come with her. So, during months, she only could just talk with you with phone calls and facetime. Which was nice! But she craves your physical contact.
So it's the last concert and in two days, she's home so she can show you her love in all the ways that come in her mind.
When the concert is finished, she goes backstage to change her outfits for more comfortable ones. She doesn't expect to see you in her dressing room, playing some games on her phone on the couch.
Once you see her, you turn off your phone and greet her with a warm hug.
"[Y/N]? What are you doing here?" she asks. She is surprised to see you but she's also so happy.
"Well, I finally had a day off so I decided to come because I missed you too much. I saw the beginning of your concert and you were doing so well! Here, I could just listen, but I know you were the best on the stage."
She blushes a little, pleased by your praises. She's thankful to have such a supportive s/o by her sides.
"The other did well too-" she argues.
"Obviously they did well. But you are my favorite and you will always be my favorite." You lean and kiss her cheeks.
"Well..." starts Wheein. "Tomorrow's off for me as well. What about exploring Tokyo?"
"I would love that!" you exclaim.
Someone, most likely one of Wheein's bandmates, yells something like "get a room" when passing near the open door. You both chuckle and quickly start to kiss each other again.
Hwasa | Ahn Hye Jin:
Tumblr media
Hyejin loves being on stage, under the spotlights. She loves getting the attention and support of the public. But even if she likes it, it doesn't mean she's never nervous about it.
It was the stage for the MMA. It's a huge event, and everyone's eyes have been on her, the whole Korean hell, even the world, had eyes on her. It's a bit stressful, to say the least.
Generally, she's good at managing stress but this time, she couldn't help but bitting his nail. She tries to stop it because her manicure is done and it is idiot to erase such beautiful patterns in her nails. But she can't, she is a bit too nervous. She wonders what people will think of her performance, if she has messed something. Usually, she doesn't care about hate, but well, it's a human need to crave validation.
She hears a noise coming from the door. She looks up and-
You are there, with your cute face and your adorable smile. She can't help but a wide smile appears in her face. Instantly, she feels the weight in her heart lights.
"Hey, [Y/N]" she greets you.
"H-Hey Hyejin," you reply. Your girlfriend is stunning and you feel your cheeks blush. She grins, knowing that her outfits made your wonders some things.
"Come here, little one," she spreads a bit her legs, making you a room to sit on her lap. Forehead against forehead, she whispers. "I'm very happy you come to see me."
She lets her hands go on your hips (and maybe a bit on your ass). "Did you like my performance?"
You make a little laugh. "You were incredible. Beautiful. Amazing. Full of talent. You, actually."
You don't know how much your words count for her, how knowing that you enjoy her performance makes her happier.
"I didn't miss anything," you add.
"Anything?" She kisses your lips and bites them a bit. "Really?"
You chuckle, kiss her lips and lean a bit against her. She caresses slowly your thighs. "Thank you [Y/N]. I'm happy you're here."
"Always, love, always." You touch her hair, play with them a bit.
"How about we go home as soon as possible?" she asks.
"Yes."
Requests are open!

[INTERVIEW] Kim Do Hoon's Interview - MAMAMOO Parts
Q. You've been MAMAMOO's producer since their debut. What kind of changes will there be this year?
Kim Do Hoon: MAMAMOO is the first group I created. Early in their debut, the members relied on the company a lot. They were young and didn't have much experience, so I think they were just dazed. Also, because I worked on the music myself, I lead them a lot. Then, starting with their 'Yes I Am' album, I think I thought the members' needed to slowly show themselves more.
They came here because they like music. While I created MAMAMOO by looking at the four of them, I got the thought how MAMAMOO probably wasn't their only dream. So I felt that we should increase what they wanted and to show their individual selves more. I felt that would be more effective and motivational for the group and their activities as singers.
Q. How are you making changes?
Kim Do Hoon: (First few parts are just him summarizing what they've done starting with the '4 seasons 4 colors project' up to 'HIP' promos.)
After the '4 seasons 4 colors' project was done, I talked with the members about future activities. There was a member who wanted a long vacation, so we had this January, February in mind. Honestly, we had a lot to prepare for the planned November release of 'HIP', and we knew there would be strong music releases, so we thought January would be a good time. But, for the members' breaks and next solo activities, we just decided to release it in November. I thought they could then start the next year resting and focusing on individual activities. We decided to do things regarding solo albums for Solar and Moonbyul first, since they wanted to work more rather than going on break for a long time.
Q. MAMAMOO also gained lots of interest as a whole after appearing on 'Queendom'.
Kim Do Hoon: 'Queendom' let them show various performances and stages. The members did really well, and I can feel there are much more international fans afterwards. I heard 'Queendom' was really popular in China. I think they liked MAMAMOO's own style of performances. MAMAMOO's international album sales and official channel subscribers also increased. I think it created good results.
Q. On the 16th, Solar released 'A song from the past’. How did she collaborate with Kassy?
Kim Do Hoon: When I brought up a solo album to Solar, she had the opinion that the other members' were done so well before, and MAMAMOO has had such good results, that it was burdensome and she was afraid. When it comes to Solar, she has done ‘Solar's Emotion', but I think she's being mindful of it being a completely new song. So I suggested how it would be if she did a collaboration song first.
Wheein has worked with Jungkey, Moonbyul with Seulgi, and Hwasa with Loco already. Before MAMAMOO's group debut, they received good results working with K.will, Bumkey, and Geeks as well.
So, I thought about a lot of artists, and so I suggested Kassy who I felt matched well with Solar with schedule conditions, and her color as an artist. Solar also willingly said it sounds good, so I suggested it to producer Cho Yeong-su, and the collaboration happened. (...) Solar also works hard on what she's in charge of. That's why I naturally thought of their collaboration, and Solar said it sounded good.
Q. Solar has been doing YouTube with her individual `Solarsido' channel. Was this suggested by the company?
Kim Do Hoon: Solar first said she wanted to do it. I think she's working hard, having fun doing it. I talked to the other members about doing it as well since the response was good. But the other members said they don't want to because it's tiring. (laughs)
Q. Do activities, schedules happen through members' choices?
Kim Do Hoon: When it comes to group activities, the members' thoughts are all slightly different, and there are instances where things have to be done, so we can't always echo their opinions. However, for individual activities, I want to comply with the members' opinions.
For individual activities, I ask about each and every thing to that member. Last year, when Wheein released 'Good bye', she was scheduled to go on `[Yoo Hee Yeol's] Sketchbook', but she wasn't feeling well and she felt burdened by the stage, so it was cancelled.
Even if they're one group, all four of them are bound to have different thoughts. While having a meeting recently with the members, I heard what kind of activities they want to do. Moonbyul said she wants to meet with fans focusing on performances. Wheein has little interest in music shows, and said she will think about what she wants to do while first resting in January-February. Just like how Wheein appeared as an indie musician and painter in the 'HIP' music video, I think she's into quietly listening to music or drawing lately. I suggested for Hwasa to do content like her Hwasa Show from their concert, but she thinks the broadcasts she's on now is enough. Solar has released her single album first, so I think she's going to go between working on an album and her individual broadcast (talking about her YouTube channel).
Q. What are the plans for members' solo and group albums?
Kim Do Hoon: I tend to leave solo album releases up to the members. I can't reveal any details, but there's a high chance that Moonbyul will be next to release a solo album. Hwasa is preparing a solo mini album while resting. At the earliest, I think it will release in March—April, within the first half of the year. A group album, I think will be sometime in the middle of the year. After that, there will be concerts. I talked to Wheein today, but she wants to rest for now. There are still lots of days for them to be active. Wheein doesn't think of things impatiently, and will be resting, taking trip(s)."
Q. What's your reason for listening to everything from the members?
Kim Do Hoon: The thing I'm confident in is that a team without issues like MAMAMOO is rare. Their teamwork is the best. I'm really thankful to the members for that, and I think they've come a long way. That's why I've normally thought that MAMAMOO's dream needs to be supported for them to go on for a longer time. Within certain bounds that don't push things, I think things need to be done in the direction they want for them to have fun doing it. If you start forcing what the producer wants, they could get sick of it. It seems like, drawing out what they want to do themselves makes the group's activities fun as well. That's how we started the '4 seasons 4 colors' project. The activities and concept for 'HIP' also reflected those intentions.
Q. What are you picturing for MAMAMOO in the future?
Kim Do Hoon: As a big picture, I think MAMAMOO's part 2 started with 'HIP'. If part 1 was them drawing things out with a producer, I want to put more weight on the artist's own story. The members all really have fun and like MAMAMOO's activities. Even so, the members have their own styles. There are members who like broadcast activities, and there are members who only want to release an album. There are members who like idol music, and members who like underground music.
I just have to help make decisions when members' opinions are divided, and to push things to suit what each member wants to do. Along with their music preferences being different, we're planning on showing various solo albums or concert stages. MAMAMOO respecting and understanding each other's activity boundaries, colors, and preferences is really nice. The reason why the members' solo album styles are all different is because 80% of their opinions are reflected in them. If they went however the company lead them, I think they probably would've gone in the direction of what the CEO prefers, rather than their own colors.
Q. You recently sued malicious commenters.
Kim Do Hoon: I feel we've been clumsy and lazy in this area until now. We're all done setting up everything that has to do with legal actions now. We plan on taking strong action. Starting this year, we will be taking a stronger stand. As a CEO, I'm sorry to the members and fans.

Hey if it's not too much to ask. I have a request for a Wheesa fanfic where wheein is privately rehearsing her solo stage for the F/W concert and Hyejin stops by to watch and Wheein gives her a private show of her 7 rings stage (😏😉😏). And another where it's like an 'Easy' alt universe and Wheein is actually dating Sik-K but she starts to fall for Hyejin after Hyejin shows her that she doesn't mind Wheein not being easy (more of a softer fic). I hope you like these requests 💙💙💙
I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS!! THIS IS MY FIRST MAMAMOO PROMPT AND THE FACT THATS ITS WHEESA IS ALSO GREAT. I love mamamoo as a whole, and I love sik-k too, but I want a jung wheein girlfriend. This wheesa fic will most likely be soft like my black widow fic. Or bit sexy ;) who knows

MAMAMOO THEORY: Comeback
Fans like making theories and like to decipher details to make theories on what may come next or what can be expected on the foresee able future. I do have my own theories and predictions about MAMAMOO as well because it’s something fun to do while waiting for things to unveil.
The year is already midway through and given the amount of content MAMAMOO was able to produce so far, I think people would have enough hypothesis by now on what to expect on the coming 2ng half of the year.
MAMAMOO joined Queendom then immediately made a comeback for their 2nd full length album of “Reality in Black” with the title track HIP and a pre-release song of Destiny release on the variety show. HIP era boosted MAMAMOO’s brand more, while they were receiving good result from their album they joined most of the line-up for the year-end shows which they were able to provide quality content for the already existing fans and to their new comers.
Now the year 2020 came in and all things was not the same. The pandemic affected majority of everyone’s life and MAMAMOO was gravely affected by it as well. An interview with one of RBW’s CEO which they discussed the activities awaiting for the group. He stated solo activities and group activities as the year goes by.
The first up on the list is Moonbyul’s comeback which garnered enough attention to the public maintaining the momentum they are still ridding from HIP’s success. While Moonbyul comeback is relatively doing its job on keeping MAMAMOO relevant while other group are doing their comeback, other members are also doing their part. Solar’s weekly youtube upload keeps her presence visible as time passes by. Then Wheein steadily makes her impact through her collaboration and birthday celebration. Hwasa on the other hand is very visible through her variety show appearance, sponsorship and music collaboration.
MAMAMOO’s time table may have its hiccups but there are able to make amends and find work around. Based on KDH Solar and Hwasa are working on their comeback as well and Wheein decided to rest for the time being. Since the schedule was interrupted Solar debut her solo career earlier than Hwasa’s comeback. Which is understandable. Hwasa already release a single hence I would expect her to have an EP similar with how Moonbyul solo activities has been and a creation of album takes more time than releasing a single.
Solar single release on my opinion has always been coming first regardless of order that KDH mentioned on his interview. I was actually expecting her to release nearer her birthday. Her debut was a success never the less. Then after her promotion an announcement suddenly made its way on Moonbyul’s repacked. Since her solo concert was cancelled along with their Japan promotion its very given that they need to get back on track so doing the concert on line is a good opportunity.
It didn’t surprise me either that a photo of Hwasa in recording booth was release yet her comeback was not confirmed. RBW and MAMAMOO’s decision on their activities was able to keep the group name relevant. Again, HIP era was a success especially to their international presence hence they all wanted to keep that momentum going and letting the member individually work is for me a great strategy. They would be able to buy sometime before finally launching the groups comeback.
The next probably 2 group comeback is very crucial. MAMAMOO’s band has been in the industry for almost 7 years now a good amount of time to actually reach their maturity yet the brand is still reaching its new high and the comeback with determine if they are about to reach their maturity and start to plateau as time goes by through the product life cycle.
My prediction for the next half of the year for MAMAMOO are based on all I have explained earlier. Moonbyul’s concert and repacked along with Wheein’s upcoming collaboration enables RBW to buy sometime before launching Hwasa’s comeback. I’m expecting the group comeback to be after her promotion for the reason that June is allotted to their group’s anniversary. Another good thing is that Hwasa’s birthday is July which makes more sense to do her promotion.
Another reason for my prediction as why MAMAMOO’s comeback are being dragged later on the year for the reason of RBW’s rumour of entering the stock market. Fans are concern about the thought given that the decision making would not be just the specific CEO we are normally seeing as the company will later on open to the shareholders. Going public enables RBW to gain boost in terms of financial assistance.
Money trail is one of the bloodline of a business. Now given that going public means selling parts of the company which stock holders earn ownership and may gain decision making rights but RBW’s CEO are the first generation owner of the company. I would be expecting them to still keep majority of the stock of the company to ensure that they would be able to keep their ownership and position on the management.
If going public ever comes true my prediction is that RBW would be doing it near MAMAMOO’s comeback for the reason that the group is their biggest act and the group is their image to the public. Along with the group’s comeback, I would be expecting them to confirm a world tour which would garner enough buzz to launch the newly public company and giving another weight to the needed success of their group comeback.
RBW is preparing MAMAMOO for the upcoming change if they ever go public because investors demand would focus on the biggest opportunity which is their brand group MAMAMOO. The changes would also make impact on the renewal of contract. The company on my opinion gain plus points for the reason that they ensure that they let MAMAMOO members have an opportunity to take their music individually. The impression of that means that their individual desire is not being hindered by their group; that their growth is still theirs and have been theirs to begin with.
MAMAMOO as a brand and group is currently on a lot of pressure. The new generation of fans would be coming in which means a new set of preferences that needs to be fed. MAMAMOO as I have always believed is a progressive artist and they have what it takes to survive the new generations of fans coming in its more of whether they would be able to play their cards right and whether fate is on their side.

[TRANS] MAMAMOO 'Yellow Flower' Diary
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Q. From trainee days to now, what is your favorite compliment that you've heard?
Whee In: That I'm really unique. That there's nothing I can't do and I'm good at everything.
Tumblr media
Q. They say you'll be successful if you see a ghost in the recording studio...do you want [to see a ghost]?!
Solar: Even if a ghost doesn't appear, if you enjoy and absorb the music as is, wouldn't that sincerity get through to many people? Moonbyul: I do. they say a moonbyul ghost appears at the company. Shaking [scared] I'll release the story next timeㅋ Whee In: No x579326 Hwasa: I want you.
Q. The song 'Sleep In The Car' really came out...How did you feel when you first heard about recording it?
Whee In: I was flustered. it was hard to believe. Hwasa: Whoa.
Q. If you were to become a MAMAMOO fan, what would be the reason?
Solar: Of course, visuals. Moonbyul: Because there's a handsome Whee In. And there's a Moonbyul who likes scratching the fine hairs on Whee In's nape. Whee In: coolness..?ㅋ Hwasa: Our wild appearance, not acting innocent.
Tumblr media
Q. What's the last song you listened to today?
Solar: The new song from our album I was just practicing ㅋㅋㅋ 'Spring Fever'. Moonbyul: I listened to my solo song I'm working on. (it's so good) Whee In: My ringtone... Sik-k's Party. Hwasa: Beyonce-'Runnin'.
Tumblr media
Q. What is something that happened while playing with your pets (Jjing Jjing, Daebakie, Haengwoonie, Kkomo, Lion)?
Solar: I think Jjing JJing's having trouble hearing now.....ㅠ Moonbyul: I don't think Haengwoon recognizes me yet...;; Whee In: I acted like I was adoring a shiba doll. He must have gotten jealous because he took it to a corner that's unfrequented, and I haven't been able to check whether it's dead or alive...shudder Hwasa: .............
Tumblr media
Q. What were your names before you were born (just temporary names that are given to the baby before they're born).
Solar: It was 'mom's pup' ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Moonbyul: I didn't have one. There weren't even any ones to choose from... Whee In: It was 'Geurim (Drawing)'. It was supposed to be my name. My mom said when she was a student, a friend told her to name her child 'Geurim' because my mom's good at drawing. But I'm now Wheein...ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Hwasa: She said she didn't even know she was pregnant with me…
Tumblr media
Q. What song do you think fans will like from this album?
Solar: 'Rude boy' ㅎ It was my type as soon as I heard it^^ Moonbyul: Um... 'Paint Me' is really good. Because I could show a new side of me! Wheein: The song I found myself humming unconsciously is 'Paint Me'. I'm not sure~ The other songs are good, too~ But I'm not sure. Hwasa: 'Rude boy'.
Tumblr media
Q. MAMAMOO is known for being 'spoiler fairies', give a spoiler for the album at this point!
Solar: MAMAMOO. Moonbyul: 'Red', guess what this is. Red Velvet's 'Seulgi' will be doing the featuring for my song. ㅋㅋㅋ Whee In: The season I like the most is fall. Hwasa: Spring, summer, fall, winter.
Tumblr media
Q. Are there any punishments if you're late to practice?
Solar: No, but if you're repeatedly late, there's 'sweet pumpkin' (being stern). Moonbyul: There aren't. But there is side-eyeing. Whee In: There aren't, but you can eat Yongsun unnie's 'sweet pumpkin' tastily (t/n: means you'll get in trouble/scolded by Yong lol) Hwasa: There is. I don't know what kind of punishment it is though.
Q. What the members have each others' names saved as in their phones?
Solar: moonbangubangu/whee-kalak/candle-jini. Moonbyul: ddun/wheein (t/n: it's shortened in korean, but sounds similar)/ahn-yonce. Whee In: reenactor/guchahae/quite shocking. Hwasa: changlanie/mansaengie/kkuaek.
Tumblr media
Q. Of the songs that have been released so far, are there any of your members' parts you want to steal/try yourself?
Solar: Rather than someone else's part, i want to try low-pitched parts. Moonbyul: They're all high-pitched, so there's nothing i want to steal! Whee In: Um.. I sometimes have thoughts of wanting to rap, but I know that's impractical. I know that well. Hwasa: I would steal Whee In's 'Moderato'.
Tumblr media
Q. If you had a solo concert, is there a song that you want to let people hear?
Solar: A self-composed/written song. I have a number of them ㅋㅋㅋ I can't reveal it, so I'll just say that it's self-composed/written for now ㅋㅋㅋ Moonbyul: There's a song i wrote, i want to let people hear those. The title is 'mirror'. That's all [i'm going to say] ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Whee In: There is, but it's a secret? If I say it early on, there's less anticipation. Hwasa: Sting - Fragile.

[TRANS] TenAsia 10+Star Magazine Interview with MAMAMOO
Tumblr media
Q. You’re a group that has debuted 5 years.
Solar: It doesn’t feel real. It still feels like we have just debuted. Wherever we go, it seems like we are still the maknaes. So to say that it’s been 5 years… it sounds gross (everyone laughs)
Q. Let’s look back to last year. What’s the most memorable thing?
Wheein: First, as a group, our song “Yes I Am” has received so much love. Including myself, each member has also featured in songs, or released solo tracks or OSTs. Since we have showcased our own music, we hope they will become presents to our fans.
Hwasa: Holding our solo concert “Curtain Call”. We have performed in Seoul during March and Busan in August. The concert was a time when all the things Mamamoo has done bloom like flowers, so the meaning is different.
Solar: To me, our concert was the most memorable. The concert consists of all our joys and sorrows. Although we only perform for a few days, the time of preparation lasts for months. The moment the curtain rolled up, seeing thousands of moobongs (Mamamoo’s lightstick) in the audience, I became overwhelmed by the tough times we had while preparing. (laughs) In addition, thinking that there were that many people who came because of our music, it made me want to cry too. Our first MooMoo fanclub ceremony (Picnic Live) was also unforgettable. We were able to communicate with fans, play games, and spend time with them, so it was enjoyable.
Q. During your concert, you cried when your fans held up slogans saying “Never Letting Go”?
Solar: It’s a phrase with a story. It was during a public broadcast when we just debuted. Other than our fans, many fans of other singers were gathered there. In between, MooMoos prepared a slogan event for us with the phrase “Never Letting Go” written. At that moment, I was so touched that I cried. (laughs) Inspired by that, we eventually made a song with the title “Never Letting Go”. After years have passed when I saw this slogan again at our concert, all the times in between started flashing in my head which made me cry.
Hwasa: Whenever we perform, our fans make us touched like that. (laughs) Thanks to them, every moment spent with our fans [can be remembered] through events.
Q. A strong relationship with your fans can be seen.
Solar: During our early debut days, we didn’t receive much attention. So our fans are the ones who stand by our sides and watch us grow little by little. Hence, we try our best to communicate with them. We listen to their opinions and create opportunities to meet them often even when it’s small-scaled. We did fanmeetings and a pork belly party. (laughs) Because of that, we are able to build a thick relationship with our fans.
Q. You’ve been picked by many rookies’ as their role models lately. How do you feel?
All: Ey~ (Mamamoo, who did not believe this, repeatedly replied with ‘really’.)
Moonbyul: That’s because we haven’t heard about this in person… (laughs) It’s fascinating. Even for us, we have role models too. When we first debuted, whenever we met our role model sunbaes, my heart would tremble and think that “yes, I aspired to become a singer because of this sunbae”. Now that we have become a role model to our juniors, I am thankful and I feel great. I also feel the responsibility to do even better in the future.
Solar: I am grateful. It seems like a proof that we have successfully walked through the path we chose until now, so I am happy.
Q. Is there anything you would like to say to your juniors?
Hwasa: It feels embarrassing so I don’t know what to say. (laughs) I understand greatly the hearts of our juniors who have just started. I just want to tell them that they are already doing well enough right now.
Q. When you think of ‘Mamamoo’, you think of ‘the group who plays well on stage’.
Solar: Thank you for thinking of us like this. On the other hand, for as much of the expectations received, we feel just as burdened. We always worry by thinking about the need to show new performances on stage. But thanks to that, it seems like we are growing little by little.
Moonbyul: Hence, every day is a challenge to us. Since we have to prepare new adlibs for each performance, it feels like we are conducting missions. It is impossible to put down our nervousness.
Q. Thanks to your unique adlibs, you were invited to perform at the 37th and 38th Blue Dragon Film Awards.
Moonbyul: I was told that we are the first to be invited to perform for two years consecutively. It is an honour. When we appeared in 2016, we told ourselves to not make any mistakes; as for our second appearance, we had the burden to be funny with our adlibs so I was very nervous. (laughs)
Q. To create refreshing performances every time, how do you overcome the burden and pressure?
Wheein: There isn’t any ways other than sticking closely together as four. Nothing can be done to relieve the burden. The nervousness before going on stage has become a strength among us. (laughs) This might be off topic, but whenever we have individual schedules, that’s when the emptiness hits the hardest.
Solar: Instead, the nervousness helps us create an even better performance. The fans who smile while seeing us perform give us huge strength too. If we see that the fans enjoy it, we will also be able to enjoy ourselves even more.
Q. You have a very strong impression for being bright and lively, for which you are nicknamed as “beagle-dols”. Do you feel burdened by it?
Solar: We worry about it a lot. On TV, we give the impression that we are fun, we play well and fool around a lot. But in real life, we are all actually very shy.
Wheein: There are many people who are unfamiliar with our serious and quiet sides. Sometimes, I feel frustrated by it too. Wherever we go, if we act shy, people react by saying “Ey, you’re Mamamoo though?” If we are quiet, others ask if we are sick. (laughs) I became reluctant to meet new people too. However, since most people perceive us as bright and positive, I accept this gratefully as a whole.
Hwasa: This is a part of life that I must face. We cannot explain to everyone who we really are and what we will be doing.
Q. Compared to what you expected when you first debuted, how different is it with your current state?
Moonbyul: Until now, we have been following what we pictured from the start. But of course, we have been hit with unexpected difficulties too. I’ve been accused for “being a singer just to hear certain words”… Because of these exaggerations, I wonder to what extent I can match myself to the colour we wished for.
Tumblr media
Q. What was hard for you?
Moonbyul: When we first debuted, I have received a lot of misunderstandings. When we were trainees, we received trainings where we could actively voice out our opinions. Whether it’s related to music or outfits, we have personally participated in them. However, it is not the case outside of our company. As a rookie, it is difficult to spread your own voice. At the beginning, we’ve heard that we were ‘arrogant’. Right now, many people understand us more. In order to produce better results, I do not plan to stop expressing my ideas.
Q. RBW CEO Kim Do Hoon once mentioned, “Mamamoo will not stick to being ‘idols who only play well’.”
Wheein: This is similar to what we believe in. We are loved for having a fun and bright image. But now, we wish to appeal further in terms of music. Because we are people who will be doing music for a long time, we wish to naturally show you our transformation as it is. Hence, our upcoming year is very important. Compared to the past, I want to show you our certain growth in music.
Q. You must worry a lot about the new music coming up.
Wheein: It is now our assignment to not lose our trendy sense while trying out different genres of music. What I hope for Mamamoo is to develop into a high-class and refined team.
Moonbyul: It is not as straightforward as saying that we want to change our images. Having sudden changes might create antipathy instead. Whether as a team or as solos, we must show our diverse sides step by step through various routes and contents, until we are able to proudly say “This is Mamamoo.” Nethertheless, because the standards of people have risen, I’ve become more distressed. (laughs)
Q. Solar has featured in Super Junior’s song “Charm of Life”.
Solar: The fact that the sunbaes invited me to do this is already an honour, and it was fun recording it. The gags from the song seem to match well, so it was enjoyable.
Q. Moonbyul has released a solo track “Love & Hate” on your mini album ‘Purple’ - a song with different colours from the team.
Moonbyul: I was not a rapper originally, but my position changed as I joined the team. I wanted to showcase my vocals through the song “Love & Hate”. I performed this first at our concert. Because of the good reactions from fans, we decided to include it on the album. In the future, I plan to release more R&B hip hop music like “Love & Hate”.
Q. Hwasa has released a parody cover of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” called “Pink Panties” in the beginning since debut, and has received hot reactions. When will we be greeted with a solo track similar to this?
Hwasa: I have been consistently working on songs. But I’m not sure if there will be a song as creative as “Pink Panties”… (laughs)
Q. Wheein has participated in various featurings from Jungkey to Super Junior’s Heechul. What’s your secret to getting endless love calls?
Wheein: Do I have to say it with my own mouth? (laughs) During my trainee days, I worried a lot because of my voice. I thought it was too typical. At that time, our CEO told me I had a voice that could digest any kinds of genre, that I shouldn’t dwell myself in a slump because of this. Yet, I still couldn’t be completely satisfied with myself. Now, I finally understand what my CEO said to me. My voice has now become a strength that I hold only.
Moonbyul: Wheein normally listens to a lot of songs regardless of their genres. Therefore, she was able to develop a voice that fits various genres. Last year, Jungkey’s song “Anymore” that Wheein featured in has even won 1st on SBS Inkigayo. I was so surprised when I watched it on TV. Our baby was out there alone winning first, so I felt very proud. She was also the first within Mamamoo to ever win first on her own, so I was very proud of her. (laughs)
Q. You held showcases in Japan and Taiwan last year. How was the reaction of the locals there?
Wheein: To be honest, I couldn’t comprehend the amount of love we receive overseas at all. Since we have seen it first hand, I now realize that there are many fans who love us. Crossing country borders, I am really curious as to why they even like us. It is fascinating. (laughs)
Moonbyul: It was amazing. Even though our languages are different, I find it funny when they all understand our adlibs. Thanks to them, I have gained a lot of energy. If we are given the chance, I wish to visit more countries in the future.
Q. What dream do you wish to fulfill next year?
Moonbyul: World tour. This is my first time saying this since debut… but when I was in middle school, my dream was to become a “world star”. (everyone laughs) Through concerts, I hope our music can be heard by many.
Solar: First in general, I wish to do different kinds of music and achieve another year with more growth. Specifically, just like what Moonbyul said, I want to hold concerts more often. I want to hear people say “Mamamoo’s concerts are a must-go concert”.
Hwasa: It’s our 5th year now, so I hope it will be a year where our members can each showcase a lot of our own skills.
Wheein: I hope that Mamamoo as a team, and each member as artists, will be able to grasp their positions. I would also like to widen my promotions in various fields.

#PLUS #QUESTIONS
Solar
What are your new year’s resolutions?
To live diligently! I have worked hard last year too, but there are also things I regret and feel sorry about. This year, without any regrets, I will try to live diligently.
What does your remake project “Solar Emotions” mean to you?
A project with songs that I love, songs that mean a lot to me which I want to sing them again.
What other songs do you wish to remake through “Solar Emotions”?
There is a lot really. The song that came to my mind now is the late Kim Gwang Suk’s “Around Thirty”. It’s a song I really liked. I wish to sing it someday.
As a leader, when are you most thankful to your members?
Since trainee days, we’ve been together for almost 8 years. From then to now, I am always thankful that they trusted and followed me all this time.
Moonbyul
What are your new year’s resolutions?
To open my mind! I will be 27 years old now. All these times, I’ve developed habits and created a mold for myself. In the coming year, I wish to break the mold little by little.
To the “King of Search” Moonbyul, what does “search” mean to you?
Whenever I perform at events or appear on broadcasts, I get curious about our fans’ reactions, so I’ve started searching them up. Through that, I have now learned new words and slangs as well. It’s interesting so I’ve been monitoring well. (laughs)
What is the most interesting slang these days?
“제곧내”. At first, I thought it means “I will come down soon”. (laughs) But as I found out, it actually means “the title says it all”. (To all the staff around) Don’t you find this really eccentric?
What does “Girl Crush” mean to you?
A word that made me known to the world? It doesn’t only mean “a cool female who makes other females fall for her”. There is a burden and responsibility that comes with being a naturally cool woman.
Wheein
What are your new year’s resolutions?
To put my thoughts into action and achieve them! I am at the state where my sense of achievement is dry. (laughs) Hence, there are times when I feel bored. Even for a bit, if there is something that interests me, I want to try it out and experience the enjoyment through it.
What interests you these days?
I want to learn an instrument. First, I’d like to learn how to play the guitar… I want to get my own studio too. It is my dream to be able to make music and also draw at such place.
What do you want to draw?
Things related to music? Without the restrictions of a genre or subject, I want to draw freely and combine it with music. For this, I want to be able to go to exhibitions often too.
Who is your favourite artist (painter)?
Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960.12.22 - 1988.8.12). His works still look trendy even now. They are known to be colourful and vivid. I was deeply impressed by him.
Hwasa
What are your new year’s resolutions?
To take better care of my health! Before, my goal has always been to work hard in everything. But now, I get sick at times when I shouldn’t be, so I’ve realized the importance of my health. (laughs) I hope my members will all take good care of their healths as well.
You’ve been loved for having strong makeup on. What makeup tips do you have for the new year?
Point makeup! The basic eyeliner stands out from the colour of your lips. I am the type who puts on red lipsticks to match the light pink eyeliners.
What is it like living as the maknae in Mamamoo?
A non-maknae-like… luxurious life? I’ve been living without feeling like the maknae. (laughs)
When are you most thankful to your members?
When they send text messages to my parents to ask how they've been. I am most thankful when they treat them like their own parents.

i finished that assignment!~!~!~! used my second grace day. it took me 3 days although tbh i barely worked for most of those days, i seriously did not want to do it and jjk was such a perfect distraction. but i really pulled through for myself last night to this morning (didnt sleep). the reason i didnt wanna do it is cuz there’s coding in matlab and im fuckin terrible at matlab. but thankfully e texted me and we exchanged answers and she gave me her code for a few parts....god bless her. shes the best. i really didnt think i was gonna finish #1 esp cuz there was 3 parts and the code for it was like NOT WORKING it was just terrible. even just a few hours ago i was like “i finished evrything except part 3 of q1, maybe i should just turn it in?” but i finally figured out what was going on AND COMPLETED THE ENTIRE ASSIGNMENT. i have never moved like this in my life. im not a completionist, my entire life is a halfassed effort where i sometimes succeed at seeming like i tried hard. i feel like i just won an award. im literally the shit.
and i guess one benefit to staying up was, i got to watch the bts mma performance live. first of all........dynamite’s dance break. who would expect dynamite, of all songs, to have a dance break??? but they did it???????/ they make the song new with every performance even tho im sick of the song i still love when they perform it cuz they always do something different???? i think this is the best dynamite performance, right after is the bbmas, and then james corden.
and omgg hobi is too sexy. his dance break....obviously hes a good dancer but HE DOESNT DANCE LIKE THAT OFTEN....AND BY LIKE THAT I MEAN SEXY....BRUH.......... it was like a hint of filter choreo. obvs it was mj inspired but i got filter vibes from it too. like i wouldve expected jimin to do that part but you wouldnt see it coming from hobi. he slayyyeddddd my goodness gracious. i think he might be the most versatile performer in the world. i freaked out over it for an hour and tbh im still freaking out. im gonna go rewatch it for the 20th time. it really gave me energy to finish my assignment. i think that might be my fav dance break they’ve done next to the wabp2 dance break from the mots one concert (these are the only two i can think of rn)
and that kinda got me excited for mama, cuz ik they’re just gonna blow that mma performance, which was already fucking crazy, right out of the water. and also cuz mamamoo is showing up too, i really hope each member gets a solo performance like in 2018~~~altho wheein didn’t release anything this year so it might not happen....

International Women's Day: Mamamoo Edition
Just because I thought "Why not?" If you you're involved with Mamamoo, every single day feels like a Women's Day. And here are the reasons why 👇🏻
Kim Yongsun - Solar
Tumblr media
When we're talking about women empowerment in K-Pop or the music industry in general, I hardly can think of a better role model than Kim Yongsun. She's not only Mamamoo's oldest member and their leader, she's also a very supportive and thoughtful person who always cares about everyone and everything around her.
Her YouTube channel Solarsido demonstrates her versatility as singer, entertainer, dancer, choreographer etc. and she pleases her fans with a lot of diverse content. Once in a while she shows her incredible dance skills, the other day she exposes her way of learning English. But what's really impressive about her YouTube channel is that she raises awareness about serious issues and social causes:
youtube
In honor of “Expectant Mother’s Day”, Solar volunteered to help watch her friend Eun Song’s newborn baby. Solar volunteered to help watch her friend Eun Song’s newborn baby. While she did struggle a bit, her sharing the experience was illuminating about what mothers go through on a daily basis! ©Koreaboo
youtube
Solar joined forces with Dongdaemun Senior Welfare Center and social worker Jung Soo Bin to donate roughly 2,200 lbs of kimchi to underprivileged elderly. She even delivered some of the boxes in person, making the gesture even more meaningful! ©Koreaboo
youtube
On the “International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation”, Solar used her large platform to raise awareness of the violence women around the world experience as victims of FGM. ©Koreaboo
youtube
Also, did I mention that Solar stands for gender neutrality? I think we all remember that time she ripped off her shirt during their 4seasons 4 colors concerts and when she was invited to perform live at KBS! She explained, “Afer seeing many male idols ripping their shirts on stage, I wondered, ‘Why can’t girls do that too?‘”
Tumblr media
There's a lot more to say about her so if you don't know much about Solar or Mamamoo in general, make sure to check them out. You won't regret it.
Moon Byulyi - Moonbyul
Tumblr media
One of the best examples for gender neutrality and music diversity in K-Pop might be Miss Moon Byulyi.
With her latest solo comeback "Dark side of the Moon", she wrote a new history in K-Pop. Bold in both sound and style, Moonbyul takes the stage with "Eclipse" and uses it to show off her duality as both a singer and rapper over its forceful melody and brash beats. Accompanied by the release of a captivating music video where the artist is seen both as a soldier and a queen, “Eclipse” revels in Moonbyul’s skills as a performer, and also continues Mamamoo’s legacy as an act that constantly relays different ideas of feminine strength through their music. ©Billboard
youtube
Moonbyul is successfully redefining fashion’s outdated gender norms by wearing suits and breaking the beauty standards of K-Pop PERFECTLY. But Byulyi also has her soft sides. Her sincere love for Mamamoo and Moomoos is just precious and she never misses a chance to show her support and love for her members and fans. On Fancafe, she helped Moos who went through hard times and in her private life, family and friends play a central role which she proudly shows by her many tattoos.
Tumblr media
I personally love her for her way of spreading self-confidence and a strong self-esteem. Be it by her self-composed songs or by simply talking with fans during Fanmeetings and on Vlive, she always motivates us to love ourselves!
Make sure to follow her on Instagram!
Jung Wheein - Wheein
Tumblr media
Wheein was born to shine. But she was also born to be a great role model and here is why.
Fronting Soar, Wheein's first-ever solo single album, “Good Bye,” or “Let’s Break Up” as it reads literally in Korean, is a poignant track that rises and falls with Wheein's dynamic delivery of the song, as soft rock instrumentals build the melody up around her powerful vocals.
"Good Bye" was released through a heart-rendering music video that depicts a rare representation of same-sex love in K-pop. Featuring a woman entering the home of a couple, she treats it as if it’s her own and play-acts being in a relationship, while becoming enraged and destroying signs of the pair being together, seemingly out of jealousy. ©Billboard
youtube
In addition, Wheein explained that the shape of love doesn't matter to her, it's all the same. For me as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Wheein's statement means a lot and I'm so happy about her support and understanding!
During the "Secret Unnie" filming with SNSD's Hyoyeon, Wheein also talked about the pressure of Korean beauty standards and her struggles of feeling left behind, a feeling all of us can relate to.
youtube
Whenever Wheein shows her vulnerable sides, it always carries an important message to her fans. I love her because she's simply being herself without trying to be someone she isn't. Wheein is one of the most humble artists I've ever met, she's an inspiration and a great emotional supporter.

I guess since she became THE it-girl of 2018, 2019 and probably 2020 also, everyone should be aware of how much of an amazing person she is. Here are the reasons why she is my number one queen.
Everything started with twit, her first solo song which quickly became a very popular song in SK. Her prowess as one of K-pop’s most dynamic singers carries throughout the song, a true show of her impressive talent as she addresses, mocks really, a lover who is giving too much to someone who doesn’t deserve it. ©Billboard

"If I don't fit in this generation's standard of beauty, I will have to become a different standard"
Who doesn't remember her most famous quote? I think a lot of people appreciate her for her very strong self-esteem and just being the way she is. Just like Wheein and the rest of Mamamoo, she's very humble and down to earth.
What I love the most about her is her attitude. Hwasa called out her haters in their latest comeback album "reality in BLACK" and doesn't hesitate to tell the whole world how much she loves to be herself.
Tumblr media
What can I say, there's so much more I want to tell about her but the best way to get to know her is to watch the whole Mamamoo related content and ofc her solo activities, for example her appearance in "I live alone"
youtube
All in all we have to admit that she's the most badass queen ever who deserves the whole world. And it's our obligation to protect her from all the unnecessary hate. She has just the sweetest personality and even though she acts like a tough person, she can get hurt just like every other human on this planet.
Tumblr media
Mamamoo isn't only a group of talented singers. They're very unique and special women with big hearts and a lot of love and support for their family, friends and fans. K-Pop is a strict and sometimes scary music business but even so, Mamamoo manages to be such great role models and one of the most humble celebrities I ever got to know!

[TRANS] 200425 Solar ‘SPIT IT OUT’ Interview ①
[ Learning about the joys and hardships of idol group’s leaders ]
Tumblr media
- Please introduce yourself SOLAR : I am Mamamoo’s leader and vocal, do re mi fa so la Solar.
- How were you chosen as the leader ? SOLAR : Because I’m the oldest (lauhgs) I think I naturally became it. Honestly, I was worried. I became a leader, but it was my first time, so I didn’t know how I should do it. Early on, I think I was really confused.
- What kind of leader do you think you are? SOLAR : I was a bit strict at first, but now I try to be a friend-like leader. Since I’m the oldest, the members could think of me as being difficult. I don’t like that, so I make an effort to treat them comfortably. I try to be comfortable with them, instead of being strict just because I’m the leader. I like that.
Tumblr media
- Isn’t the position of a leader burdensome? I feel that weight would have been a lot. SOLAR : Rather than it being like that because I’m a leader, there was more pressure as an unnie (t/n: older sister). I’m the youngest in my family, and was never an ‘unnie’, but I was put in the situation where I had to take on that role for the first time through Mamamoo. At first, I was flustered and it was hard. It was the most difficult when I had to make decisions. There were moments where I would want to look to my unnie, but I couldn’t. It was confusing, too. Now, because of the time spent with my members, we’ve been like friends and are having fun promoting.
- There must have been lots of processes sharing opinions with your members. How did you mediate as a leader ? SOLAR : (When there’s an issue) rather than asserting my thoughts, I listen to all the members’ thoughts, and then I give my opinion as a representative by deciding what has the most weight. But, now that I know all the personalities of my members, I just ask them beforehand, ‘How about we do it like this?’, ‘Isn’t it more efficient?’ (laughs) Of course, if new opinions come up during that process, we talk more.
Tumblr media
- If you promote as a group, aren’t conflicts inevitable? Do you have a way of solving them? SOLAR : Because we each lived separately, then met and lived as a group, there are things that don’t match. At first, we fought and got mad, but after spending a lot of time together, we’ve gotten each other’s personalities. So we started to understand each other more. We’ve can tell just by looking at each other’s facial expressions (laughs) As time went by, the things we collided about naturally disappeared, and it feels like conflicts have as well.
- Is there a member that you particularly rely on or get advice when you have a concern? SOLAR : I don’t tell my members about difficult things much. I tend to think about things alone. Not just with members, but I have a personality where I don’t tell other’s my inner thoughts well. My members know that, so they occasionaly say to me, ‘Tell us, too’, but it’s not easy. Recently, on a radio show, Hwasa told me ‘[We] know your hardships’, and cried I got chocked up hearing that and teared up. I’m thankful that they know.
Tumblr media
- Mamamoo is nearing 6 years into your debut. When you look back, what would you choose as the most memorable moment ? SOLAR : I remember when we won number 1 for the first time. I started remembering all the difficulties since I was a trainee, and got choked up. Our first solo concert was meaninfgul, too. We always talked about wanted to do a concert, and seeing fans in font of us cheering with their Moonbongs (lightsticks), I was so moved that it was to the point where I couldn’t sing. I think there were a lot of difficulties in moments. There are times where practice is hard, and where things are hard mentally. But there were even more good moments, so we all dit well.
- Is there anything you talked about your members with regarding nearing 6 years into your debut? SOLAR : I didn’t know that time went by so quickly. It felt like not much time went by, but reading 6 years already... It doesn’t feel real. I sometimes talks to my member about being gross, (laughs), I think we really did this job intensely, faithfully. It also made me think we’ve come that much of a long way. I’m really thankful for fans who were together with us until now, too.
- After debuting, you ran without rest. What’s your driving force ? SOLAR : My members. My cons are made up for because my members are here, and thanks to them, I was able to be active for 6 years. I also get strenght thanks to my fans. If the fans weren’t there, I really don’t think I could have done this. I was able to go on or a grateful 6 years because they always supported and took care of me.
Tumblr media
- What do Mamamoo members mean to you ? SOLAR : (Moon) Byulie is someone who gives me lots of advice. She’s sometimes like an unnie, and I listen to Byulie well. Also, she’s a really reliable pretense that always gives me attention. Wheein isn’t the type that talks well, but I get lots of mental support from her. She’s the type that quietly does well, so if I tell her something, she’ll understand it all and follow me. Hwasa is really thoughtful and kind-hearted. She’s like a companion that I can be long-time friends with even after getting older. We don’t say embarassing words to each other well, but I adore them a lot.

[SCAN] 2016 Moosical Interview - Hwasa
English Translation under the cut:
[HWASA] -Concert thoughts- I think I prepared the concert every day with a nervous heart, thinking, 'I'll have to fasten the first button well'. I don't know how the practice times passed. I think I focused and focused on just preparing for the concert and put everything I had into it. Our first solo concert in our lives, there was anticipation as to how it'll look, as well as a big burden being felt. Honestly, each step towards the stage was tough, but looking back after it was all over, I think it was the the most shining, and radiant escape of my life. All the MooMoos who filled the many empty seats, the bright wave of light sticks, and the tremendous yelling! I think it was a time where well laughed and cried together, and truly became one. Recalling it again, it's an overwhelming feeling that I don't know how to express. Along with MAMAMOO, all the staff who sweat for Moosical, and all the fans! I'm proud and happy we were all able to achieve such a splendid time. I don't think any of the MAMAMOO members will ever forget that day. -Solo stage explanation and thoughts- While preparing my first solo stage since being a trainee, I wanted to communicate the rawness of Hwasa through a still silence, and become one at the climax of it. I think it's a stage that I really hoped for. So I intentionally chose a song that I like and can pull off the most, and properly show myself off. A stage without any choreography, gestures, or rules, where I move my body to the music and communicate with the audience. It was a stage that I dreamed of, so I was really happy. I wanted to exceed being a singer and become an artist. I wanted to become one with the music, expressing everything with my voice, body, and atmosphere. I'm really grateful and glad people saw it well. My stage, if I think about the bliss I felt from it, it's still electrifying. I want to keep experiencing this addictive feeling. -Focus of the concert according to Hwasa?- Each and every performance was done with sincerity, so it's hard to pick one thing as a focus. Mm, still, if I had to pick some things, I think it would be the new songs we showed through the concert. Along with the Solar x Wheein and Moonbyul x Hwasa unit stages, each of our solo stages. And I guess you could call the fan song '놓지 않을게' a small gift to fans who came to the concert? We worked hard to have a fruitful concert as it is our first solo concert. So I think it would be hard trying to pick which was more precious.
