I can't unthink this, so I'm inflicting it upon the rest of youse.
So, in the OG version of Genuine Revelation, Tsumugi and Eichi raise their hands in synch here, twice in a row. Then on the other side of the stage, Hiyori and Nagisa do their own set of matched motions/poses. You know, pretty standard live choreography, as one does.

But during the last performance they did together as Old fine… well, Tsumugi reaching out early while Eichi is still focused on the audience, and then Eichi turning to reach back only to find Tsumugi is already walking away from him, that's glaringly obvious. They descend the stairs apart, no longer in sync with each other, and the anime narration even hammers home that Eichi is watching Tsumugi walk away from him both literally and figuratively.

But then. Immediately after, the camera cuts to Hiyori and Nagisa, descending their side of the stairs together. While Eichi and Tsumugi desynched compared to the original choreo, Hiyori and Nagisa draw even closer together, hand in hand and looking directly at each other. A hand-holding later paralelled as they step away from Yumenosaki towards an uncertain future, alone except for each other.

I dunno what I'm getting at, to be honest. It's just an interesting compare/contrast that I noticed. The War shattered some relationships, and yet strengthened other bonds.

A few of the demons shuffled their feet, uneasy but giving small nods.

“Train like your life depends on it, because I’ll make sure it does. Everyone understand?”
Their affirmations were firm and loudly echoed their fear off the walls of the room. Though you had only meant to comfort them, you now found yourself equally intimidated by your new boss.

The thick slices of pork sizzled behind the counter as Kurama and Hiei waited for their order. Kuwabara would be running late today, and Yusuke was the one busying himself behind the counter of the food stall.
The delinquent turned hero yelled something at the man farther in the kitchen, laughing to himself as he got a reply.
Kurama smiled wistfully before turning to Hiei. “I heard yesterday didn’t go so well.”
Hiei grimaced at the tap water in front of him. “Hiring a healer was a bad idea.”
“Do I have to explain the concept of lawsuits to you again?”
“No,” hiei grunted before raising a hand to rub his temple, “maybe, ugh…they’re all so weak! What’s the point in even training fighters if it’s not to make them strong?”
“There are other ways to make strong fighters. Haven’t you heard the saying, ‘the same boiling water that hardens the egg softens the potato?”
“I say we boil them all and let that sort them out. We’ll see who has weakened and eliminate them swiftly.”
Kurama chuckled before taking a sip of his water. “That’s not the point.”
“Once again your meaningless human euphemisms fail to communicate a direct meaning. I don’t see a problem with boiling them alive.”
“…please don’t do that.”
“It’s not your gym, what do you care?”
“I recommended the healer to you, so I feel some responsibility for her well being.”
Hiei huffed, one strong finger tracing a line down the condensation of his glass. “If she doesn’t like the job, then she should just quit.”
“Hot plate ! Coming up !” Yusuke announced as he brought the sizzling plate to the counter between his two friends. Kuwabara came rushing up from around the corner, announcing his arrival in the form of shouting at them to wait until he’s seated. The gang of misfits enjoyed their meal without bringing up the healer again.

The next few weeks, hiei was accompanied by an assistant trainer you knew quite well. While you were grateful for kurama’s calming presence, you hoped he hadn’t felt forced to show up due to your barrage of complaints you texted him the day after.

“Hiei!” Storming up from beside the demon, you stalked your way to the center of the room where the fiery instructor was sparring with another injured client.
Fists still raised and wrapped, his eyes darted to the side to lock with yours in that same bright red intensity.
“What?”
With a dry throat, you hesitated. Quickly searching for kurama somewhere in the room with the corner of your eyes, and upon finding him watching, you regained your confidence and continued.
“You said no more broken bones !”
He lowered his fists and approached you slowly.
“What does it matter if I break their bones? Your job is to heal. Stop complaining that I’m giving you work.”
You let out another frustrated growl, clenching your fists at your side. “That’s not the point ! Even with my healing, you’re still leaving permanent damage !”
“Then you’re not as good a healer as you claimed to be.”
“I never said—!” In the middle of your squabbling you two had gravitated closer, almost chest to chest so you could glare and point your anger directly at him. He only leaned in more, huffing and arguing until one of your stray hands accidentally brushed his shoulder.
“So you want to fight? Is that it?” He snapped, trapping your wrist in the air with an iron grip.
“I want you—” you tugged at your wrist. No motion. Like trying to shove a wall. “—to go easier on your students!” You yanked again to no avail. Throwing your other hand against to chest to try to pull your arm free.
Hiei couldn’t help but smirk. Your little attempts to set yourself free juvenile at best.
“That’s enough.” Kurama came up with a steady expression, both hands in the air as he addressed the two of you.
“We’re not done talking.”
“Then take it outside. Get some fresh air. It’ll be good for the two of you to make peace.”
“What?!” You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. Kurama was gonna let you be alone with this sadistic monster? “I don’t wanna—”
“Let’s go.” With your wrist still in his hand, hiei dragged you through the back doors of the gym.
It was a small alleyway that led to the parking lot around the corner. A tall cement wall kept it isolated. The dusty area mostly went unused. Hiei dragged you to the dead end away from the glass doors and away from the parking lot.
Once you finally snatched your hand free, he turned to glare at you.
“What’s your problem with me?!” You snapped at him. “I’m only trying to keep people safe!”
“Are you trying to keep them safe or are you trying to piss me off?”

Some basic baking/cooking tips that I've picked up over the years:
Basic tips:
Food keeps burning on the outside but is underdone on the inside? Try a lower heat for a longer time. This goes for both the stove top and oven. All foods. Eggs, pancakes, cupcakes, cookies, whatever.
Put a little bit of oil and salt in the water you're cooking your pasta in. The oil will help keep the noodles from sticking together, and the salt helps add flavor.
In general, salt the water of stuff you boil! Contrary to popular myth it doesn't make water boil any faster, but it adds some nice flavor to your potatoes/pasta/etc.
Adding coffee to a boxed chocolate cake mix can bump up the taste a few notches! I like to brew black coffee and use it in place of the plain water the recipe asks for.
When using a stand mixer, mix in the flour on a lower setting, half a cup/cup at a time. If you put in a bunch of flour in at a high speed, it'll poof into a giant flour cloud and coat everything that you love in a fine coat of flour dust.
Crust on your pie/cheesecake keeps burning? Put tin foil around the rim of the pan, covering the crust. It will protect it from getting so overdone.
If you like brownies that are a little gooey in the middle, add an extra egg! It makes them super gooey without actually being undercooked/unsafe to eat.
In math, 4 of 1/4 cup = 1 cup. This is not how measuring cups work. I don't know why, but 2 half cups have more flour in them than 1 whole cup. If you double a recipe just use the original measurement cups/spoons twice, otherwise your ratios will end up screwy.
If you mix melted butter with a cold liquid, the butter WILL resolidify into little chunks! If you need your liquid butter to stay liquid, mix in room temp/warm liquid!
Softened butter gives a different texture to dough/batter than melted butter. Know which one your recipe calls for.
There’s multiple levels that your oven rack can sit on, like a shelf! They’re little grooves in the wall of your oven that the metal grate sits on. You almost always want to be using the very middle one, unless the recipe specifies otherwise.
If a recipe calls for spices/herbs/etc but comes out bland on first attempt, try it again! My rule with bland recipes is to try it twice: once seasoned as directed, and once with seasoning adjusted as if the author of the recipe is a suburban soccer mom who thinks ketchup is spicy. Go ham and double/triple/whatever the spices to your tastes. Try it with adjusted spices at least once before tossing the recipe out.
Weird but common terms in recipes:
If a recipe calls for "stiffly beaten egg whites" it means to beat them until they're white and foamy/frothy throughout!
If a recipe tells you to "fold" batter, it's a method of gentle stirring that gets a lot of air into the batter. You sort of mix the batter up and over itself using vertical strokes instead of horizontal.
Also "cutting in" butter or margarine is a specific mixing technique. You use a fork or a knife to incorporate very small chunks of butter into your flour/dry ingredients. This is a really good technique for making flaky pie crusts/biscuits (American biscuits, that is)
All of these weird terms are easily googled and have written or video tutorials on how to do it!
Safety advice:
If you ever use a pressure cooker; please, PLEASE very carefully read how to release/equalize the pressure before attempting to open it. It will straight up explode. It is dangerous for both your house and body. Don't just wing it, please.
Don't use wax paper in place of parchment paper in the oven! Parchment paper and wax paper look and feel very similar, but parchment paper is coated in a silicone layer while wax paper is coated in a wax (generally paraffin). Silicone is heat resistant. Wax melts off of the paper, potentially allowing the paper to catch fire. Don't catch your food on fire.
DO NOT try to put out a grease fire with water! Turn the heat off and either smother it by putting a lid/cover over it until it is deprived of oxygen and goes out, or smother it using baking soda or salt. DO NOT use flour/sugar/baking powder to try and smother the fire. These look similar, but their chemical makeup is different enough that they will catch on fire and make a bigger mess.
Nervous about food being uncooked in the center? Open them up! I always stab into the pancakes/potatoes/meat I cook to check that it's cooked thoroughly. I know it doesn't look picture perfect, but it'll be okay. You're allowed to check.
Dietary restrictions:
If you're using gluten free flour try adding some unflavored gelatine, pectin, or agar agar powder to add moisture and keep it from crumbling! Gelatine isn't vegan/vegetarian safe, but both pectin and agar agar are! About a teaspoon of powder to cup of flour usually does it, but there's a lot of guides online.
Egg replacements for recipes are numerous! Yogurt, ripe mashed bananas, peanut butter, agar agar in water, silken tofu, and cornstarch with water all work really well depending on what you’re making and how many eggs you’re replacing! There’s lots of guides online for this.
Recipe calls for buttermilk, but you can’t/don’t drink milk? Put in about a teaspoon of vinegar per cup of plant based milk (almond milk, rice milk, soy milk, etc.). BAM, buttermilk substitute!
Tofu, mushrooms, eggplants, and beans are all really good meat substitutes!
For disabled and neurodivergent bakers/cooks:
You’re allowed to sit down when baking! Get your ingredients and measuring tools all laid out in one place and take a seat while you blend ingredients! Take a seat while you stir your food on the stove! If standing is unpleasant for you, don’t do it!
If you have trouble keeping track of what ingredients you’ve put in already, make a list on a piece of scratch paper! Write down all of your ingredients and check them off when you put them in! If you need help to keep track of how many cups/tablespoons/etc. of something you’ve put in already, put a tally mark after each cup you put in! Then if you forget/lose track, you have a little checklist showing you where you are!
If you can’t handle the noise/stimulus of mechanical mixers, think about whether or not you can mix it by hand! It might take longer than when using a mixer, but it’s worth it if you otherwise couldn’t do it.
If the noise/stimulus of metal clinking against ceramics is bad for you, there’s multiple ways to get around that! Plastic bowls are inexpensive and will dull the noise of a spoon hitting them! Depending on what you’re doing, rubber spatulas can be used in place of a metal utensil, and those will make very little noise! If you need a fork replacement or a stiffer utensil, then check out baby utensils! Oftentimes forks/spoons/etc. for small children will be coated with a rubbery material on the outside, and if you can find them in sizes that aren’t too tiny, it will also muffle the noises a lot.
Reassurances that you aren’t a bad baker/cook:
All those cool cookie frosting designs from instagram? They frosted those using mostly/all royal icing. It's a runny icing that hardens quickly and is great for decorating cookies. Regular cake frosting won't ever really achieve the same effects as royal icing. If you've ever tried cookie decorating and it came out horribly then you probably aren't a bad decorator, you probably just didn't have the right frosting.
It’s okay if you feel like there’s too much for you to remember! Most all (good) recipes lay everything out for you and will specify if you need to pay special attention to not overmix, or making sure the butter stays liquid, etc. etc.
Very few people can “just eyeball it” and cook/bake (especially bake) well without using recipe measurements. If you want to adjust seasoning, or flavor components, that’s fine! But there’s no shame in needing to follow recipes to get the base down correctly. I’ve been baking/cooking for 10+ years and I have to follow recipes!
Try not to stress out too much about the end result! Baking and cooking can be incredibly therapeutic. Try to enjoy the process if possible! Put on some music or a television show/movie in the background!

we decided to make it a late night with jun instead of late nights in general ! because we thought it’d be easier to write and come up with ideas and at the same time it’d give a general feel of what spending nights with jun would be like ! we hope you like this!

the night officially started with you making dinner together
it was different each time, but this time it was making a homemade pizza together with your favorite ingredients
it was already kind of late, around 11pm or so
and like everytime you two cooked together, it had its fun little moments, like jun opening the bag of flour with too much force and some of it flying on his face
and then him blowing the flour away to make it get on your face too when you laughed at him
or when one of you added too much of one single ingredient
and then got too distracted while the pizza was in the oven and it got a little too roasted around the edges, but nothing too bad
then you ate dinner on a table placed right next to the window so you guys could look out and admire the view of the city decorated with christmas lights
while doing so, you mentioned how many stars could be seen even with all the lights of the city
and so you decided to go do some stargazing at the rooftop of the building after you were done with dinner!
you got bundled up with one of jun’s hoodies over your own clothes and he grabbed quite a few blankets
once you were there, you two sat down on the floor and Jun wrapped both of you with all three blankets he had brought with him
both of you pointed at certain constellations you could recognise, and sometimes jun would make you laugh by saying cheesy things in purpose

with your eyes focused on the stars above, you both would lose track of time and by the time you went back inside your house it’d already be almost 1am

so both of you agreed on the great idea of playing a horror game together, turning off all the lights in the house and raising the volume of his computer when he opened the game
“i don’t know if this is a good idea” jun said once everything was ready and you two were staring at the main screen of the game
“it’s probably not” jun looked at you, and then after staring at each other for a second you both chuckled
“but it’s gonna be funny if we get scared” you nodded at him and finally pressed start in the game
needless to say, when you weren’t even halfway through the game, you both turned the lights on and lowered the volume
and that was followed 10 minutes later by you two deciding to close the game (without even saving because you were sure you would never want to continue playing that)
“uninstall the game” you told Jun, but he just turned the computer off
“we’ll deal with that tomorrow, i don’t want to do anything related to that monstrosity not even if it’s uninstalling it” he replied, and you wanted to laugh but, still scarred by the game, no sound came out
you two sat on his bed in his room and hugged each other in search of protection from the horrible things that had haunted you two during the game (even though deep inside you were completely aware they weren’t real)
and thought of possible things you could do to spend time, as well as energy so you guys would get tired enough to finally fall asleep
tired enough so that not even the fear from the game would keep you up
and you gasped when an idea came to your mind, taking out your phone and unlocking it before opening your browser and searching “yoga challenge”
“what” jun said as he peeked over your phone screen and saw what you were searching, raising his eyebrows in curiosity as he looked at you and lowkey judged you “WAIT HOW CAN SOMEONE DO THAT-” he suddenly exclaimed at a certain picture of an apparently very-complicated posture
“THAT’S WHAT WE NEED TO FIND OUT” you exclaimed in return and jun quickly tried to imitate the position, failing instantly and loosing balance which made him fall on the bed and then bounce off it
after 5 minutes, you were still laughing and jun was still laying on the floor, not being able to move breathless from also laughing at himself too much
once you two calmed down, you went back to trying other less-complicated postures and at one point even tried to take it more seriously and try to relax
but it was pretty much impossible because everytime you made eye contact one of you would smile holding in a laugh or straight up let out a giggle, which broke down the whole atmosphere
finally, when you got tired of it and couldn’t find anymore pictures with interesting poses that you wanted to imitate, you two finally laid in the bed
jun placed the covers over the both of you, making sure you tuck both of you perfectly so that you wouldn’t be cold, and then added to the warmth by pressing his body against yours and wrapping his arms around your waist to keep you in place
“so, are we going to sleep?” you asked, and jun shrugged, which you couldn’t see in the dark but you felt his movement
the fact that it was so dark kept a little something in the back of your mind reminding you of the game you two had played before and of how dangerous the lack of light could be, but you hoped that ignoring the thought would make it disappear
and jun was probably feeling the same way, and to try and not think about anything remotely scary that could happen to any of you in this vulnerable state of being sleepy, unprotected and in the dark, he decided to distract his mind by talking about something else
“let’s play a questions game”
“okay”
“you go first” he said, and you hummed as you thought of a question
“why do potatoes soften and eggs harden when added to boiling water?”
“y/n this is not what i meant i already can’t sleep why would you ask that-”
you two fell into a deep silence, interrupted by jun taking one of his arms away from you to grab his phone from his nightstand, the brightness of its screen after being turned on slightly irritating your eyes for a second
“eggs contain mostly protein in liquid form” jun started reading “and when heated, the protein’s structure changes, becoming more solid. and for potatoes-”
“jun no”
“okay. then i got another question. can you cry underwater?”
“yes!” you said
“no! you’re under water!”
“you can if you’re in a submarine”
you could see jun looking at you surprised after your answer, and you just gave him a smirk
“you’re right…” he said, still surprised because he hadn’t thought of that, and you laughed
after that, you grabbed his phone and turned it off, putting it on the nightstand next to your side of the bed this time so it wouldn’t be able to stop you guys from finally falling asleep.
“good night, junhee” you whispered, leaning forward slowly to not accidentally headbump him and searching for his lips to give him a goodnight kiss
jun moved his hands to cup your cheeks and then pressed his soft lips on yours for a little over a second, then wrapped his arms around your waist again
“good night” he said, a smile evident in his voice.

But it's not about what you're made of, it's about the choices you make while in the midst of this pain. Strength is often deemed a person's ability to endure, and we can all endure. What's important is what we tell ourselves in order to come out at the other end, the realizations we open our minds to in order to 'heal'. In addition to anything else, we are strengthened by our circumstances and how we CHOOSE to operate through them.
We often hold on to choices like "I'm going to shut the world out so I don't get hurt" and you never hold on to anything again. But this is weakness, this is strong potatoe vibes. You're running, afraid to get hurt. And when since did running make us strong or tough? Real strength, real healing is being able to lose everything and stand tall despite, is addressing your feelings rather than suppressing them, is getting your heart broken and loving anyway, to suffer through being treated unkindly and to be kind anyway.
Pain, as we should all know by now, is inevitable. And we are made up of heart strings and words and memories. This can lead you to hating everything, just as much as it can lead you to positivity. Strength is not only your ability to endure, but your ability to maintain your light despite the darkness.

Unexpected Challenges of Life
Life can change in the blink of an eye which, by the way, only takes literally about one third of a second.  We just never imagine those changes, cloaked in tragedy and heartbreak, happening to us.  With little or no warning, often when we least expect it, tragedy can strike, and our lives are turned upside down.  Sometimes, literally.
My friend, Elizabeth, and her husband were on vacation in Key West on August 5, 2021 celebrating her husband’s well-deserved sabbatical he had earned after 27 years of service at his engineering firm.  It was a beautiful night.  They were returning from a wonderful dinner at Blue Heaven Restaurant in a golf cart.  The air was full of laughter, smiles, happiness, and joy.  Elizabeth was giggling while taking a Snapchat video as the golf cart rounded a corner and alarmingly flipped on its side.  The first thing that hit the concrete was Elizabeth’s head and neck. 
Strangely enough, Elizabeth remembered almost every detail of the accident.  The details, the sounds, the smells were vivid from the moment of impact.  With her face feeling oddly connected to the cool, dry concrete, she felt as if she was being lifted (if only for a moment) to a different plane of consciousness.   She was jolted back by the panicked sound of her husband’s voice.  His fear was palpable as he screamed at her to get up.  With as much calm as possible, Elizabeth informed him she could not…that she couldn’t move her arms or legs.  As people ran over to help, they pulled the cart back to its upright position, but wisely did not move her.  They asked her what she needed, and she simply told them to call 911.  At this point, Elizabeth could move no other part of her body, other than her mouth and eyes.
The ambulance took her to the nearest hospital where she was diagnosed with a serious fracture of the vertebrae in her neck.   Emergency surgery was performed to fuse C4 and C5 and to remove the disc between those two vertebrae.  She was admitted to ICU after the surgery and remained there for the next several days while friends and family waited for updates.  Her husband couldn’t be in the room with her due to COVID restrictions.  So, she endured that first night alone with only her caregivers as her body shook ferociously during the night from a high fever.  Elizabeth recalled the ice blankets that covered her whole body in continuous attempts to cool her core.  And, although she could not voluntarily move any part of her extremities, she was intensely aware of the violent spasms that were occurring from the tips of her toes to her still blood-caked hair.  Her hands and fingers felt like the ends of sparklers that are lit on the Fourth of July. 
But these were just the physical effects of those first few days.  Even as her body was fighting a vicious battle to heal, emotionally she was in a war.  The second night in ICU was perhaps the lowest, scariest, and most fearful night since the accident.  Alone, with only her nursing care, she found herself partially propped up in the hospital bed, only to slowly slide further down the bed as the minutes passed.  Unable to move herself, unable to hit a call button, unable to wipe the tears as they streamed from her eyes or the snot from her nose, bit by bit, everything was sliding down into a lonesome abyss.  She feared she would never be able to walk again, never hug her husband, never run her fingers through her children’s hair.  For a brief time, she questioned her desire to fight for life as she pondered the potential burden she might be to her family.  But courage doesn’t always roar like a lion.  Sometimes courage is the smallest of voices that breaks through in the wee hours of the night and says, “I’ll try again tomorrow.”  And this is the Elizabeth that I know!
It’s odd to think that the same boiling water that softens potatoes will also harden eggs.  It’s all in what you’re made of.  And Elizabeth was never one to back down from a challenge.  So, the next day when her doctors came to do their rounds, she flatly stated, “I’m ready to fight!”  No one could guarantee how much movement she would recover.  No one was willing to predict how her body would respond to a severe central spinal cord injury, the ensuing medications administered, or the rehab process.  But after a few days, limited movement began to return to her fingers and toes.  Hope soared even amidst the ambiguity of the future! 
A week after the accident, Elizabeth was moved to inpatient rehab and the real work began.  With the help of her therapists, she was regaining limited movement bit by tiny bit.  But the process was frustratingly slow. She was struggling with blood pressure issues and passed out whenever they attempted to stand her upright.  An injury that took less than a second would require a recovery that would be measured in months and perhaps years.  But Elizabeth was willing to fight.
A month after the accident she was able to walk a bit and was ultimately discharged, heading home to Kansas City.  Excitement was mixed with anxiety and concern, but she was ready for phase two of recovery.  The tedious process of learning to do even the simple tasks again has changed her life dramatically.  There was so much joy in being able to do even the simplest of tasks:  brush her hair, floss her teeth, put on socks, write her name, walk on her own, open a jar, or simply hold someone’s hand.  Each week brings a new normal.  Each month brings excitement for whatever changes and improvements will unfold.  
There are no guarantees in life.  And, as the saying goes, “Man plans, God laughs!”  We never know what the next moment will bring.  We can only be in THIS moment.  We don’t know if our health will change, if we will lose a job, or if a spouse will leave.  We don’t know if a friend will alienate us, or if a parent or child will be lost.  Nothing stays the same forever.  Sometimes everything changes slowly.  Sometimes it changes suddenly, with no warning, when we least expect it.  It’s at times like these when we cry out, “Why?”  Why do bad things happen to good people?  Why does life seem so profoundly unfair at times?  The truth is none of us know.  We may never know in this lifetime.  But there is a vast majority of us that believe our lives have purpose, and there is a plan…even if we don’t understand it currently. 
One of the most interesting revelations that Elizabeth shared was what she referred to as her “bipolar emotions.”  On the one hand, she feels this extreme nervousness and anxiety about what the future holds.  But on the other hand, she is extremely grateful for everything that has happened so far.  One’s outlook on life is certainly altered.
Since we all experience some measure of change, tragedy, sorrow, and loss, I asked Elizabeth if she would share some of the insights and lessons she learned during this process that might also serve as words of wisdom for us in this journey called life.  Her honest and poignant answers touched my heart.  I mention these in no particular order of significance, as all played an important role in her healing process.  She spoke of each of these at length and with intense passion.  Sharing them took great introspection, great courage, and great strength.
First, love is a great healer.  And love involves people.  People make a difference.  We all can make a difference in someone’s life.  Elizabeth spoke with tears of joy and gratitude about her family and the community of people who have supported her during this healing process…people who have walked alongside her and encouraged her by serving as caregivers, cheerleaders, and prayer warriors.  Her deep gratitude for all the notes, flowers, visits, and care received was obvious and absolute.  Sometimes just being there is the greatest gift we can give, and the actual words take on less meaning.   The extreme thoughtfulness of people, sometimes even those who begin as strangers, can give such great hope to one in need of searching for strength.   For instance, Elizabeth had been in the ICU for about 3 days post-surgery.  She was separated from her family.  She hadn’t had a bath or been able to brush her teeth.  Unbelievably, blood was still caked in her hair and smeared on her face from where it had pooled while she was lying helplessly on the cement.  Her eyes, blackened from the accident, still contained her contact lenses.   Her days-old makeup now looking ghoulish.  During the depths of her despair is when small-statured Sandy bebopped into her room with her pink nurse’s uniform, eyeglasses, and brown ponytail wearing a gigantic smile.  Sandy gently washed Elizabeth’s face and body, brushed her hair, removing the clumps of blood, brushed her teeth, and removed her contacts.  Sometimes, we all need a little of God in skin form…and Sandy was just the skin she needed.  Sandy set up Elizabeth’s phone so that it would automatically answer since she could not use her hands, allowing her to finally communicate with her husband, family and friends.  Helping fulfill basic human needs is a gift we all can give, and Sandy was a master at it.  Tears streamed down Elizabeth’s face as she recalled the three separate gifts of precious time given by friends who made the trip down to spend days with her in Miami while she was in the hospital when her husband could not be there.  Sometimes it’s not what we say (and everyone knows how hard it can be to find the right words to say at these times); sometimes it’s just being there.  It’s at times like these we can all be “surprised by love” …and Elizabeth’s gratefulness for every person who contacted her, prayed for her, and encouraged her was immensely apparent. 
Secondly, Elizabeth’s faith was tested and revitalized.  As humans, it is natural for us to want to understand everything…the whys, the whens, the wheres, the hows.  And when we don’t get the answers, it’s common to get angry at God.  Elizabeth was no different.  Her anger was fierce in the beginning, and there are still days when she feels a bit cross with Him.  And I think God understands our anger.  He certainly seemed to understand Job’s.  But then, there’s this marvelous gift of faith…and it is a gift.   But we must decide to accept it.  There are times we must choose to have faith, to have hope, and to believe.  It’s easy to fall prey to misery based on our circumstances.  Elizabeth made the decision not only to accept that gift of faith, but to exercise it as she daily made the choice to fight, not only for physical strength, but fight against the strongholds of depression, self-pity, and negativity.  In addition, she expressed appreciation for the spirituality and prayers of others during this time, articulating that it was a magnificent force for good, greatly aiding in her healing process.  That faith continues to give her hope during this long process, knowing that indeed, God does have his hand on her healing journey and on her future.  Although we crave reasoning, order, logic, and fairness, we must choose to let go of these, knowing that we may not know the reason for a very long time, if at all.  We find that our peace of mind comes not from reasoning or logic or fairness.  It doesn’t come from understanding.  It comes from hope and acceptance…from the gratefulness of realizing just how much we are loved and how much others care.  Elizabeth continues to embrace the hope that faith brings, even on the darkest days.  For it is hope that anchors the soul in difficult and seemingly impossible times.
When faced with adversity, people fold or they are transformed.  Nothing in this seemingly brief world is as it was.  Elizabeth learned, as should we, that our strength is limited, making it even more important to rest in God’s strength.  She learned that there would be times when she didn’t have a lot to give physically or emotionally.  But she continued to be amazed at the love and strength shown to her by others.  From the depths of despair, she has learned to love deeper, care and be cared for, to reach out, to understand that our weakness can bring out the strength in others.  She has learned what it means to be even a greater version of herself for the sake of others.  She has seen selfishness obliterated by empathy and pride humbled willingly by a desire to serve and give.  She has seen people at their best as she was experiencing the worst.  Out of the depths of despair she experienced a renewed joy in the simple things of life.  Desires and priorities were transformed and rearranged.   Maintaining a spirit of optimism became a choice she made each and every day.  That is a lesson from which all of us could benefit!
It would be disingenuous to imply that there are not still moments of depression and numbness that creep in.  There are still days when she experiences meltdowns and misses parts of her old life. She often longs for the joy of just being out on the tennis court or just being able to do simple tasks all by herself.   But she has found a safe haven to experience those times of despair and grief that bring uncontrollable sobbing…her family, friends, therapists, and counselors at Ability KC have been truly wonderful and life-giving. 
Lastly, Elizabeth has become more conscientious of truly living life in the moment.   We spend so much time worrying about tomorrow.  Each day certainly has proven to have enough worries of its own.   She has made a point of enjoying the moments spent with others.  She has learned to love more deeply in the present.  For truly, love is a choice made.  It is an action, not a gooey feeling.  It is appreciating others, forgiving others, leaning on others, asking for help, and allowing them to be strong.  In order to live like that she has learned to feel the whole gamut of emotions connected to pain and recovery.  But she never allows the fear, anxiety, or sadness to overshadow the joy, the hope, and excitement that small steps in life bring to each day.  She has learned the truth…that life is fragile.  And, although it can change in the blink of an eye, it’s really not about the changes.  It’s about how you choose to respond to them. 
Elizabeth’s story may differ from yours or mine, but the themes of persistence, resiliency, fear, health, wellness, and goal setting are applicable to all.  She has become the hero of her own story.  She now finds joy and gratitude in everyday blessings.  She is learning to live life in the present and make the most of every opportunity.  She loves with greater depth, never missing the opportunity to show gratitude.   She realizes people can and do make a difference, one person and one moment at a time.  She understands in a most prolific way that life is too short and too fragile to spend time chasing after unnecessary things or unneeded possessions.  The greatest gifts were right there in front of her all along!

Celebrating your small wins will help you stay motivated through your journey. Plus, celebrating is always super fun. Maybe you break your goal down to 10 small-sized goals with tasks that get you on track to achieve them.

You must follow your heart and your dreams without fear of failure. That’s the only way to live a life without regret. You can’t succeed at what you don’t do.
In the event that you do pursue your dreams and fail repeatedly, don’t let these failures discourage you. Fall seven times, get up eight.

If you constantly measure yourself up against those better than you, you’ll be bitter, discontented and miserable. That’s no way to live life.
If you compare yourself against those who’re worse off, you’ll not be motivated to do better for yourself since you already think that you’re a success… and this will lead to complacency. If you’ve been following this guide so far, you know what happens when you rest on your laurels.
So, your personal motto should always be to better your own personal best. You are your biggest competition. Always strive to be better today than you were yesterday.

7. Keep your calm.

They’re either waiting to get offended or curse and swear at their current situation.

Spend your money wisely. One of the most common traits of successful people is that they save their money. Do not spend money that you do not have to buy things that you do not need to impress people who do not care. Save your money diligently.

People who have eaten themselves into disease number by the millions. 9. Keep your promises to yourself.
This is something that many people are unaware of.
When you make a promise to yourself and you don’t keep it, on a subconscious level you’ll lose respect for yourself.
You’ll feel like you’re not worth of yourself.
One common example is people who struggle to lose weight.
They have the same weight loss resolutions every year and they never succeed.
They try a hundred different programs and thousand different slimming pills and whatever they do, weight loss eludes them.
The reason for this is that they break their promises to themselves. If you say that you’ll not drink sodas today, then you don’t. Do NOT make an exception and tell yourself, “It’s ok. I’ll work it off tomorrow.”
Yes, you can work it off but you broke a promise to yourself. The next time you tell yourself, I’ll restrict my carbohydrate intake today, on a subconscious level your mind will tell you, “No, you won’t. You always give in.”
And guess what? By noon you’ll give in and have 2 slices of pizza.
When this process is repeated over and over… it becomes a habit. You tell yourself one thing and you do another. You then feel unworthy and blame yourself.
You decide that the ideal bodyweight is just not possible for you. You tell yourself that you have poor genes, no discipline, etc. It all starts with the exceptions.
Always remember. Do not make the exceptions. Do not skip the workouts. Do not indulge in foods that you said you wouldn’t. Stay focused and exercise self-discipline. Keep your promises!
10. Believe and have faith in yourself.
In order to succeed in life or business, you must believe that you can do it. If you didn’t, you’d never start. You must believe that whatever you desire is within reach. After all, if it wasn’t, why bother?
So believe it and you’ll see it. Have faith in yourself. There may be times when you’re dogged by failure and nothing seems to work. It’s during these times that it’s imperative that you do NOT give up.
It is always darkest before the dawn. If you stay on track and keep at it success will be yours.

2. Celebrate Your Small Wins
When you think of your BIG goal, sometimes you start feeling overwhelmed. Why? Because big goals don’t get achieved right away. Instead, you need to create mini goals to help excite you along the way. This way you can be more goal-orientated and build a habit of being more effective. 
Celebrating your small wins will help you stay motivated through your journey. Plus, celebrating is always super fun. Maybe you break your goal down to 10 small-sized goals with tasks that get you on track to achieve them.
