Yesterday's photo betokened a flurry of activity on the Flickr page, related to Wewelsburg and its Nazi history.
I've scrolled past the myriad hits for that aspect of the castle and landed here - at this statue of St Augustine, carved in 1750 (the castle was a bishop's residence for centuries - and it houses a folk history museum). The Nazis are but one strand in the narrative.

For the writing ask game: 7 and 9 👀
Also congrats I guess on the 5 days off. Hope you feel weel enough to enjoy them
[happy writer ask]
Thanks! (My activity on mobile only showed the ask up to "congrats" and I was half expecting a "congrats on the covid" xD but I do feel okay mostly, it's just annoying rn)
7. What do you love most about being a fic writer for your fandom?
Technically already answered, but I also do love the amount of queer headcanons we have flying around and how casually some characters get headcanoned as people of colour and how most people currently active are actively respectful in regards to Justus' weight. Honestly, some canon authors could learn a thing or two from this fandom 🙈
9. What inspired you to write your first fic?
If we're talking my very first fic: The RPG forum where my friend and I were playing out a story got closed down and we couldn't really find a new one, but I wanted to keep the story alive to I started transporting it into a fic (i never finished). For DDF the reason was that I had read all Peter/Skinny content I could find and needed *more*, so I created some.

1934: As a reward for his role, Himmler gained control of the Gestapo, the secret political police.
1934: he gave the order to search the length and breadth of western Germany, until he found the ruins of the mountain fortress of Wewelsburg
1935: On December 10, 1935, "Lebensborn e.V." was founded in Berlin.
1936: Himmler was appointed Chef der Deutschen Polizei, or commander of the entire police, political and secret activity of the whole of Germany. In this new function, Himmler could participate in meetings of the Hitler government, since his position was equivalent to that of a minister.
1936: In the summer of 1936, he had the thousandth anniversary of the death of Henry I the Birdcatcher celebrated in Quedlinburg.
1936: Himmler issued a decree to proceed with the reorganization of the German police.
1937: At the end of the renovation works, Wewelsburg had transformed into a true shrine, with dozens of statues of Henry I the Birdcatcher, Frederick of Hohenstaufen and other German heroes.
1938: on 28 October 1938, Himmler had a note spread among all SS members, according to which it was a duty for every SS man to procreate at least four children to preserve his good blood before leaving for the front.
1939: The ''Operation Himmler'' begins the Second World War
1942: Reinhard Heydrich held the Wannsee Conference, where the so-called ''final solution'' was organized
1943: on October 4 and 6 he gave the Posen speeches.
1945: Himmler appeared for the last time at Hitler's Führerbunker in Berlin on 20 April 1945, on the occasion of the Führer's birthday
1945: A few days later, on April 23, Himmler met Count Folke Bernadotte, proposing German surrender on the Western Front but not on the Eastern Front; the Western Allies were careful not to take Himmler's peace proposal into consideration; however the offer made was spread through the press and, on 28 April, Radio London announced: "The Reichsführer of the SS claims that Hitler is dead and that he is his successor". In Berlin, a Hitler in the throes of an uncontrollable rage relieved him of all his political and military duties and ordered his arrest and shooting, orders which were not carried out due to the difficult stalemate in which they found themselves all departments of the army of the Third Reich.
1945: He killed himself on the 23 of May, 1945.

Black Sun
Reminder: this has NEVER been anything EXCEPT a NAZI symbol.
The "black sun" is NOT a part of modern, or ancient, heathenry. It is purely a modern, Nazi invention bastardizing our runes.
Do NOT wear jewelry with this symbol, get tattoos with this symbol, or create art/crafts with this symbol.
Context:
Its association with the occult originates with a 1991 German novel, Die Schwarze Sonne von Tashi Lhunpo ("The Black Sun of Tashi Lhunpo"), by the pseudonymous author Russell McCloud. The book links the Wewelsburg mosaic with the neo-Nazi concept of the "Black Sun", invented by former SS officer Wilhelm Landig as a substitute for the Nazi swastika.

Heinrich Himmler's stash of books on witchcraft
Tumblr media
A rare library of books on witches and the occult that was assembled by Nazi SS chief Heinrich Himmler in the war has been discovered in the Czech Republic.
Himmler was obsessed with the occult and mysticism, believing these books held the key to Ayran supremacy in the world.
The books – part of a 13,000-strong collection – were found in a depot of the National Library of Czech Republic near Prague which has not been accessed since the 1950s.
Some of the books come from the library of the Norwegian order of Freemasons in Oslo, seized during the Nazi occupation of the country.
In 1935 Himmler founded the ‘H Sonderkommando’ – H standing for Hexe, the German word for witch – to collate as much material as possible on sorcery, the occult and the supernatural.
The bulk of the collection was called the ‘Witches Library’ and concentrated on witches and their persecution in medieval Germany.
One of Himmler’s quack theories was that the Roman Catholic Church tried to destroy the German race through witch hunts.
He also discovered that one of his own ancestors was burned as a witch.
Tumblr media
The books were intended to be stored at Wewelsburg Castle in western Germany, the 'Black Camelot' of Nazism where Himmler created a court of SS 'knights' modelled on the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

Today’s Flickr photo with the most hits: the interior courtyard of Wewelsburg Castle. This place (now a regional museum) was intended by Himmler to become the mythical nexus of his SS Empire. It is a very sombre place to visit. Commended.

Anyway here's a short list of some of the most common Nazi symbols (other than the swastika, which everyone knows).
The Black Sun is a symbol that originated in Nazi Germany. It's not some ancient Norse pagan symbol, its first usage was as a design element in Wewelsburg castle intended to be a center for the SS.
The SS Totenkopf is not a generic skull and crossbones- it's the very specific design that was used by the SS.
The Celtic Cross is not a Nazi symbol but there are Nazi and White Supremacist variants.
1488 stands for the 14 Words ("We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children") and Heil Hitler (HH - 88)
Some Nordic runes are popular with Nazis, especially the Othala (ᛟ), Tiwaz (ᛏ), and Algiz (ᛉ) runes. But it's not uncommon for these symbols to also be used in a completely innocent (pagan, viking enthusiast) context. Yellow flag.
Likewise the kolovrat symbol can be used by Slavic neopagans but more often than not it has far-right connotations. The symbol is banned in Germany.

273) The Black Order lub The Black Order of Pan Europa - grupa satanistów z siedzibą w Nowej Zelandii. Politolodzy Jeffrey Kaplan i Leonard Weinberg scharakteryzowali Czarny Zakon jako „satanistyczne ministerstwo wysyłkowe zorientowane na narodowo-socjalistyczne”. Czarny Zakon został założony w Nowej Zelandii przez Kerry'ego Boltona jako następca jego Order of the Left Hand Path. Bolton miał powiązania z innymi neonazistowskimi grupami satanistycznymi, będąc międzynarodowym dystrybutorem angielskiego Order of Nine Angles. Według Goodricka-Clarke'a, „w 1994 roku Bolton założył Czarny Zakon, który objął globalną sieć lóż narodowych w Wielkiej Brytanii, Francji, Włoszech, Finlandii, Szwecji, Niemczech, Stanach Zjednoczonych i Australii, poświęconych wspieraniu narodowego socjalizmu, faszyzmu, satanizm, pogaństwo i inne aspekty europejskiej ciemnej strony”.

SS-Ehrenring
Tumblr media
These are some facts and curiosities about the SS-Ehrenring:
The ring made its first appearance as a personal gift from Himmler to a small circle of collaborators on the occasion of Christmas 1933.
Subsequently the gift was extended to those who could boast a membership number of less than 5,000. It was then extended further.
Revocation was also foreseen, as a consequence of violations of the SS code of conduct by the beneficiary.
In 1938 Himmler ordered the return of all rings of dead SS-men and officers to be stored in a chest in Wewelsburg Castle. This was to symbolize the ongoing membership of the deceased in the SS-order.
In October 1944, as a result of the economic difficulties caused by the war, the production of the ring was suspended and never resumed.
Through the archives found at the SS offices in Berlin, the production of 14,732 rings in the period between 1936 and 1944 out of a hypothetical total of approximately 20,000 specimens was ascertained.
The design of the ring reflects Himmler's interest in Germanic mysticism.
Around 3,500 rings are thought to be in existence today, and therefore are very rare, collectable items. Copies and fakes are also common.
