Adolf Hitler's 50th birthday
These are some facts and curiosities about Hitler's 50th birthday:
It was celebrated as a national holiday throughout Nazi Germany on 20 April 1939.
The festivities included a military parade with some 40,000 to 50,000 German troops taking part, along with 162 Luftwaffe airplanes flying overhead.
Albert Speer presented Hitler with a scale model of the gigantic triumphal arch planned for the rebuilding of Berlin, and Hitler's pilot,��Hans Baur, gave him a model of the "Führer plane", a four-engined Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor that went into service later that year as Hitler's official airplane.
A key part of the birthday celebrations was the large demonstration of Nazi Germany's military capabilities.
A luxury edition of Hitler's political manifesto and autobiography, Mein Kampf, was published in 1939 in honour of his 50th birthday and was known as the Jubiläumsausgabe ("Anniversary Issue").
The Free City of Danzig made Hitler an honorary citizen of the city as a birthday gift.
Because of his indigestion, Hitler did not drink alcohol and so a Munich brewery created a special batch of low-alcohol beer for his birthday.

Erwin Rommel during WW1
These are some facts and curiosities about Erwin Rommel during WW1:
When the First World War broke out, Rommel was employed on the Western Front in the offensive led by the German army against the joint French and British armies.
Rommel earned his first decoration on 24 September 1914, when he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class following an individual attack on five French soldiers in a forest near Varennes.
He was awarded the highest German military honour, the Order Pour le Mérite, which he received for the leadership skills demonstrated, with the rank of lieutenant, on the Italian front especially during the Battle of Caporetto in autumn 1917.
He was promoted to the rank of captain in January 1918.
For a time, Rommel served in the same infantry regiment as Friedrich Paulus, who, like Rommel, rose to the rank of Field Marshal during World War II.
He was wounded three times during the war

Blondi
These are some facts and curiosities about Blondi, Hitler's dog
Blondi was given to the Führer by Martin Bormann in 1941.
By all accounts, Hitler was very fond of Blondi and often kept her by his side, while Hitler's secretary, Traudl Junge, later stated that Eva Braun detested her and sometimes kicked her.
An officer declared «I sometimes had the impression that the outcome of the Russian campaign depended more on Blondi than on the German general staff»
She stayed with Hitler even after he moved to the Führerbunker, where he allowed her to sleep in his bedroom, during the fall of Berlin
In April 1945 she gave birth to five puppies, with the German shepherd of the architect Gerdy Troost.
In his final days the Führer became "emotionally dependent" on Blondi, risking his life to take her for daily walks outside the bunker.
Before killing himself, Hitler ordered one of his personal doctors, Dr. Haase to test on Blondi the cyanide pills that he would need for suicide.
