Happy new years!

Figured I would take some measurements and weigh in photos for the first post of the year. Didn't end up hitting 150kg but there's plenty of time to eat in 2024 :)

(I am not a seamstress and these measurements are my best attempt 😅)

Belly: 58" standing up, and maybe 60" sitting down which is when the tape measure was about to run out and this was very hot...

Thighs: 34-35" standing up, 36-37" sitting down.

Chest: 51"

Arms: 20-21"

Hope everyone had a good weekend and I hope you are ready to watch this space, because I'm fat. Or lack of space depending on the context.

I love angst but this qbad arc doesnt feel tragic at all. like yes of course it is because He Fucking Forgot His Kids and they have to listen to him call them roomie over and over again and casually risk their lives and beat them over the head with cookies but. But.

he isn’t sick anymore. He isn’t going to forget them again. all that he’s learned of them he is going to keep remembering and then, later, he’s going to remember more. I love angst a lot because i like to dig into how it changes characters, but fuck i am just as obsessed with recovery arcs, which is what this feels like. Yeah there’ll be bumps and twists and turns. recoveries arent always smooth, and he’s got to deal with the grief of missing skeppy and being trapped and fearing wardens and oceans, whatever thats all about, but he isnt sick anymore. He isnt hurting or dying.

he was working so hard to make sure his kids would be okay, and he fuckinf succeeded. People kept checking up on them and offering to feed them when he went missing, and they have one (1) nice bedroom to sleep safely in, and they have all these tools and toys and farms and food. and then he chose to go back to them. and now he can learn to love them all over again.

#and by the weight of his casual care now we can measure it against the FEROCIOUS love and adoration he felt for them before he died #its like putting him up against a mirror to shine a light on #all the differences and simularities #the way the island changed him. the way he stayed the same #it’s absolutely fascinating character work i love this arc so much #qsmp badboyhalo

Palestinian seb3 baharat recipe roundup

1/2 Tbsp nutmeg (جوزة الطيب) (optional)

1 1/2 Tbsp cassia cinnamon (قرفة) (quills or bark)

3 Tbsp allspice (بهار حلو)

1 1/2 Tbsp cardamom (هيل)

1/2 Tbsp cloves (قرنفل)

1 1/2 Tbsp black pepper (فلفل أسود)

1/2 Tbsp ginger (زنجبيل)

1 1/2 Tbsp coriander (كزبرة)

The recipe gives various terms for allspice which in fact refer variously to allspice (the first three) and cubeb berries (the last one). In this context allspice is certainly what is meant.

Measurements variously before and after grinding. It's unclear whether the "parts" (جزء) are by volume or weight; black pepper is almost twice as dense as allspice...

English-language, comment on "Middle Eastern" recipe that calls for "baharat":

"My family is Palestinian and came from Jordan. The 7 Spice Mixture we use is Allspice, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Clove, Black Pepper, Cumin and Coriander.”

#these are just in the order I happened to find them btw #then what I do is note ingredients that are in all or virtually all of the blends #note any patterns aka the recipes either have cloves OR nutmeg but not both #think about what each spice is bringing to the blend and how they’re all balanced #(taking into account differences in ground versus whole spice measuring and weight versus volume)#and include all the most popular spices between the various recipes in ‘authorised’ proportions also thinking about how I would balance it #bc you can see a lot of variation in proportion here #and then if there’s any element that is included only in that region I will include it even if not all recipes from that region include it #bc I’m focused on regional variation whenever I make a bunch of different versions of something

Weight in the Form of a Hippopotamus Head, c. 1540–1296 BCE, Egypt, New Kingdom, Dynasty 18. Carved & polished hematite, 2.2 x 3 x 4.2 cm (7/8 x 1 3/16 x 1 5/8 in.), 62.1 g (2.19 oz.). The Cleveland Museum of Art

"Sensuously carved and polished to a silky luster, this weight takes the form of a hippopotamus head. Eyes, ears, and nostrils ae modeled in relief; the mouth is closed. The flat underside provides a surface on which to rest the object. This hippo head weighs 62.1 grams, roughly three-quarters of a deben, a unit of weight in ancient Egypt. As such it does not correspond to any of the more usual subdivisions of the deben, although similar examples are known. In fact it is an inter-standard weight, representing eight seniu or two-thirds of a deben, and is equivalent of an Aegean unit of 62.1 grams."
