under the floorboards seeks to highlight artists that go unnoticed on the internet and uplift non-fanart pieces that don't get as much traction. UTF will be free to read & submit to forever and published online for the forseeable future.
officially opening submissions for under the floorboards vol 1! there's zero timeline and also i dunno how long a volume will be. each artist spotlight/ article will be posted somewhere, probably on a neocities site i'll host (or maybe mine until i get off my ass and make a second acct).

i complained about fiver needing new pants and actual insane person (affectionate) @chasing-kitsune spent like 3 million gil and bought me an entire new outfit of high level gear so now we're in fiver's jean jacket era
#i was going to glamour it but this outfit actually kind of rips#so we'll stick with it for a while#i'm going to actually do the endwalker patch quests tomorrow#cause i just started thinking about fiver last night and wanted to play some ffxiv#figured i might as well actually do new stuff#and thanks to atom single handedly boosting my ilvl by 51 points i don't have to worry about being too low anymore jskfdlngs#i need a new bow#but i'll get one by accident that's how i get all my weapons in this game#i'm SO rusty at this game also jfslkdngs#i loaded into a trust dungeon to try and get new pants and also to practice being a bard again and jesus christ i've forgotten how to play#i got back into my rhythm by the end of the dungeon but i'm so glad trust exists so no real humans had to see that#fel's ffxiv#oc: fiver#hiiii fiver i missed you

#this took me a while trying to DECIDE#oc: iraestra#oc: balam#ot3: he is the tender butcher who showed me the price of flesh is love#and a few of these have weird explanations behind them but balam is horniest most violent sluttiest wants to see insides be their outsides#irae more wants to see their insides to study and put in a little jar on her shelf#but like gort views himself as acting for the good of the gate and the sword coast hence the slightly more selfless leaning here bc this is#about how they view themselves#though in that case irae would probably view herself as very selfless bc she is doing this for her family and revenge in their name#the most baseline explanation of this is that irae is a mykrulite under ketheric but thinks that he is becoming old and ineffectual#and losing himself in his grief and beginning to doubt that he can uphold his end of the dead three pact and there's plans to replace him#and orin finds out about it when she tadpoles balam and iraeis tadpoled as well or somethng. might change that storyline around a little bu#considering irae having a group of myrkulite cultists who answer specifically to her and pay lip service to ketheric or idk sometttthingg#throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what sticks#didn't feel assed trying to draw balam or gort so you get these#also yes that's a leapord gecko not a salamander but we'll ignore that#also unsure how i feel about gort age but i just threw something in there#half the time spent on this was just editing it for 3 people#lamia muses

something I didn't anticipate with the Big Drawing™ is how much we're starting to struggle to figure out what to actually include in it.
we've spent something like 22 hours on it so far (there's 4 hours we missed and need to catch up with) and we're less than a quarter of the way through the year and I think one of the biggest challenges is going to be just coming up with things to keep adding to it

lol the poor little blurb that inspired this timeloop fic
i wrote it in 2019 as the intro to another fic that i ended up cutting it from because i didn't think it fit well enough. then i stumbled across it again in december and reread it and thought huh, this would be an awesome introductory piece to a timeloop fic.
started drafting, and now. approximately four months and ten chapters in. i'm considering cutting it again
#LIKE... idk i like the writing but it just doesn't relaly#fit the rest of the story#which is funny considering it's what inspired/kicked this off#i just don't want to have it there and have it mislead people into thinking they're going to read something different or confuse readers#because there's lines in there that are like oooh i wonder what this means and then nothing comes from them#im going to try to edit it again (for like the third time since stumbling across it lol) to make it fit the story better#buuuuuuuuuuuuut i might end up just scrapping it once more#i am sorry little blurb...... you have served me well... but i dont know if i can make you fit#not an update#also lol yeah i'm ten chapters into outlining we'll see how many more we have to go#i'm trying to wrap things up but it'll probably be a few more before i can manage that#it'll probably be 12 to 14 chapters? ish? that is my current estimate#although i havent been thinking too much about the post-plot recovery stuff.... hm#i dunno i'll stick to that guess

I don't have much of an idea of how exactly to do this, so I'll just be listing the productive things I did every day (or every few days), as well as the music I listened to that helped me do said things. I'll figure it out as I go, but I'm starting today. I hope it goes well and that my ADHD doesn't screw me over too bad, as it often does. This should be fun!!

ranking esc2023 songs... part two
ahead of the second semi final tonight, here’s my personal qualifiers and non-qualifiers for another sixteen songs!
1. austria || it’s already iconic and for good reason. this year’s show belongs to edgar allan poe!!
2. san marino || i feel like it’s not my usual kind of thing, at least not when it comes to eurovision, but i like it. good music, nice vocals, and it’s hard not to sing along.
3. iceland || look it’s nothing new or inventive, but for what it is, it delivers and it delivers well, and her voice has a lot of power behind it.
4. denmark || didn’t think i’d be seeing the random ab6ix collab guy on eurovision, but here we are... it’s cute and catchy, and he’s got a likeable voice.
5. greece || i’m saying it again, it’s nothing new, but it’s from a teenager so i’ll allow it. he’s got a lot of talent.
6. lithuania || she’s a solid singer and i like the progression of the song.
7. cyprus || i like his voice and the song builds along well, so i’d be surprised if it didn’t do well in the semi at least.
8. slovenia || i like the music on this one and it’s one of those songs that sticks in my head but it’s welcome to.
9. estonia || strong vocals, and the music is likeable enough, but. kind of boring.
10. armenia || tbh this one bores me a bit too, but she’s got a strong voice and the music itself is solid.
11. romania || he’s got a good voice but this song just isn’t working for me.
12. albania || i do enjoy the music on this and the cultural touches, but it’s not really my kind of thing.
13. poland || it’s catchy but that’s kind of the only compliment i can give it.
14. georgia || look i’m trying to put aside the awkward phrasing of some of these lyrics, but even with that aside, it’s pretty generic for eurovision.
15. belgium || for an upbeat eurovision song about empowerment and self-belief... it’s pretty damn bland.
16. australia || i feel like it has potential at the beginning but then the chorus bores me every time.

told myself i was going to have thee most productive summer of writing...churn out something good and big truly now that i have the time to devote to it...we are nearing the end of july and after almost a whole month i have 400 words on them feeding each other cherries and that is all

i love to spend an hour composing a message in chinese to the people in genshin impact who see the name 小白雪花 on the north america server and believe me to also be living in mainland china, explaining that although i am but a lowly american-born taiwanese and therefore almost functionally illiterate, i know enough to respond to a request for help and also be able to kill things in two hits
#it is now an hour past my bedtime but it'll be fiiiine#something i do notice when sitting down to compose chinese messages is that. there DOES SEEM to be some sort of improvement going on#like the brain will start pulling up phrases i didn't previously know how to use n i'll look em up to make sure they're right#i think it's a side effect of both playing gnshn cn dubbed and also the retranslation work i do on the game sometimes#when studying its lore/for nat when she is studying its lore#it never feels like anything sticks no matter how often i see the words tho. i'll be like 'oh i recognize that word.'#but i won't know how to say it or what it means so that's embarrassing#花話#anyway. at least if any of them ask why i chose the name 小白雪花 it's an easy explanation. '因為我最喜歡化學' lol#很喜歡花花;最喜歡化學;就感覺'雪花'就是很可愛的名字#i also suspect that my frequent avoidance of 'i' when speaking will make me sound extremely formal and/or polite#or maybe it will make me sound old. i don't know. i suspect that i speak in a way that's at least influenced by my mother#like i was composing the thing right. and i was like 'i already used this word. we need to find a synonym or else we'll die'#'we need it to be a fancy synonym. mom used a fancy synonym one time two years ago. let's find that one.'#funny enough this is also my thought process when writing fic in english half the time#idk if i mentioned this before. but my writing process and style feels very chinese to me#it is also important to me that i specify to these people that i am a ~taiwanese~#i have no idea how this makes them feel. but it is my way of signalling 'i do not read simplified well n hope you can read traditional'#and also for cultural heritage pride reasons too
