Was doing a reread of chapter 31 of Namesake and had to draw Warrick in Wicked Warlock mode. Need a creative way to fight with shield and healing powers? make serrated whips out of your shields! Make sure to float dramatically and evil laugh!

With it being International Asexuality Day, I wanted to talk about the comic that was a big part of me becoming comfortable with labeling myself as asexual: Namesake, by Isa (@secondlina) and Meg (@savvyliterate). This will contain some spoilers for Namesake.
When I first learned about asexuality, I had a few cycles of "oh that's me," followed by "I mean maybe not," then complete denial, then "but what if?" I didn't really know what aromanticism was at the time, and kind of thought it was the same thing as asexuality, which added to my confusion. During one of these cycles, I began to read Namesake. Warrick Chopper, one of the main characters of Namesake, is biromantic and demisexual. Throughout the comic, he and main character Emma Crewe have gone from sort of enemies to friends to dating. I absolutely love their development. Right as I was catching up to the comic, as Emma and Warrick had officially become a couple and I was still in the "I don't know maybe not" area of the cycle, there was a large discussion about Asexuality in the comments as Emma and Warrick discussed their various emotions and attraction.
I remember reading that discussion with a sort of awe, as folks asked questions about asexuality and demisexuality, and others explained what it meant for them. Someone said that you can identify as you are comfortable, and that was okay. And it was what I needed to hear. It still took me a bit longer to fully accept, be comfortable in, and take joy in the fact that I was ace. But for the next while, I held that comic page in my mind whenever I began that cycle of doubt.
It's been about 6 years since that page was posted. I now identify as greyromantic asexual. I'm still learning and growing, but I understand myself a bit better than I did then.
