Puppets!! Costuming!!
Fungi the fox as a marionette! Warhorses like Carl and Spirit as massive two or three person puppets that can move and gesture and interact with the actors. Carl nibbles on Techno’s sleeve while he talks to Phil and Techno throws the horse a look. Henry is a similar large puppet, but Friend is a hand puppet Ghostbur (and later Tommy) carries.
The hound army works a lot like the stampede in the Lion King, and is just whatever stage crew and understudies are available, dressed in black or gray.
Also chats! Philza’s flock of crows, Eret’s ferret’s, Fundy’s clay figures, and other personifications of chat are puppets like the gazelles and birds in The Lion King. The puppets occasionally convey the audience’s commentary to the characters.
Some characters could even have elements of puppetry in their costuming! The BBH and Ranboo costumes have masks above the actor’s head’s to add height and an otherness to them!
Technoblade’s original piglin costume requires two skilled puppeteers, one on the other’s shoulders like a lion dancer, so sometimes the production just uses a pig skull mask and pink wig.
Sam is also a two actor character, so again sometimes the complicated animal features like his back legs are cut for simplicity. Sam Nook is a little plush hand puppet on Sam’s arm ^-^

The theater world, whether society likes to admit it or not, is a forerunner in the realm of innovation.
Theater requires creativity. Not just in how a human can act as another, or in elaborate sets or songs. But also, when it comes to bringing nonhumans to the stage. Some productions, like Sight & Sound, may go an easy route, and use living animals when they require a donkey or a dog. But for many theaters, they instead turn to puppetry.
When you think of puppetry, you may think of sockpuppets, or sesame street, or perhaps lambchop. And these are impressive, in their own right, but perhaps not quite my focus.
The horses of Warhorse. King Kong from the King Kong musical. Sven from Frozen. The wonderous creations of Compagnie La Machine.
These are what capture me. These are what entrance me. And these are what I wish to share with all of you.
I am Ashkarn, lover of the artwork that surpasses the canvas, and dazzles the world from the stage. Thank you for joining me as I gather my knowledge and interests together.

tl;dr I’m really struggling to find my place in the pro-wrestling fandom.
(disclaimer: I’ve been taking a break from twitter and tumblr for the past couple of months so I don’t know anything about any recent iwc drama, what’s been going on in the dirt sheets or even the more legitimate wrestling news sources. i’ve been on tiktok some but unless it’s a ship or thirst edit, i hardly watch any posts on wrestle-tok.)
i feel like all i ever see in the wrestling fandom is people talking about how everything sucks. how terrible the product is. don’t get me wrong, people should be free to criticize pop-culture no matter the genre or medium. there is absolutely a LOT of problematic things in the industry that should be called out publicly.
it’s just, that seems to be all there is. wrestling makes me happy. i want to be in a community with other fans who are made happy by it too.
maybe it’s because i’m too used to the typical tv/movie/book fandoms. while i will jump at the chance to tell anyone who will listen how there is no greater performance art than wrestling, that is more “real” than marvel or star wars (which i both love) or any other popular franchise, that no “method actor” in hollywood comes close to what pro wrestlers do year round… but at it’s core it’s still about stories and characters and that’s the way i tend to approach it.
i want to have thoughtful discussions about current storylines like how luchasaurus is showing signs that he is breaking free from christian’s influence, theorize the possible motivations he had for choosing christian over jungleboy to begin with. i want to talk about how dalton castle is spiraling under the weight he’s put on his own shoulders to save ring of honor. i want to talk about the new version of warhorse and what led him to feel he had to change everything about who he was. my shipper heart wants to explore why jay white mentioned his “destino” only days before naito finally main evented wrestle kingdom. i want to read pages of meta about past arcs like the corruption of brandon cutler from his time with peter avalon where he refused to cheat to his becoming the “stooge” for the young bucks.
i am tired of “booking” and “pushes” and “ratings.” yes, i am aware that that is just as much a part of wrestling as the characters and the storylines. it’s just, for right now at least, i want wrestling to be a place where i can escape and lose myself in kayfabe just like i would in any other fictional world.
there’s just so much real life awfulness going on in both the world at large and in my own personal life, i want to be able to stay away from negativity in the things that bring me joy. and while it has been refreshing to just watch wrestling on tv without knowing about any of the back stage bullshit, i am longing for a community to discuss the things i love about it. i have a handful of wonderful non-wrestling friends who are always happy to let me word-vomit about what’s happening in kayfabe, but it isn’t the same as being able to have conversations with people who have the same knowledge and enthusiasm for the stories and characters as i do.
i just wonder if there is such a place in this fandom for me. or if that’s just not how wrestling fandom works. or if that’s how all fandoms are these days. admittedly, i’m a fandom old. i started out in fandom reading fics from yahoo mailing lists i accessed on dial-up internet.
anyways, i just needed to get this out. if anyone has any advice or thoughts about this, i welcome them, but please be patient if i don’t reply right away as i’m still not ready to be back on tumblr regularly.

The Fallout series doesn't fuck around with more non-gunpowder weapons tbh.
Sure, you get your machetes and baseball bats covered in barbed-wire and your swords made of an old truck wielded by a Roman cosplayer in power armour, and all of those are delightful, of course, but think about it.
Guns are weapons that require a lot of specific materials and expertise to create, particularly modern guns, which rely on mass-production. In a scenario with generations of societal collapse and scavenging, you would be hard-pressed to even find someone that could improvise one, and whoever could would probably be carefully guarded by whatever patches of the old government remain.
Wastelanders would have to rely on more accessible materials to make weapons: clubs, spears, bows. I wouldn't wanna excise guns from the setting altogether: I had a ton of fun with them in New Vegas.
But I think it would be really fun to showcase more 'primitive' weapons. It would demonstrate just how much mankind has had to improvise in order to survive in such desperate circumstances. Plus, giving the players the chance to make an archer build where they can take out supermutants or deathclaws with a bow would be cool.
I also want warhorses. Mutant warhorses. With power armour.

Sure would be cool to not get choke-slammed by sudden clarity about game-ideas I’ve shelved while I’m desperately trying to finish games that I owe.
I usually try to follow the heat, just to keep the words flowing, but recently that hasn’t been as productive a policy as I’d like. Got about a dozen things half-done, and my drive is increasingly looking like the infirmary from Alien 3. “Father! It has been so long since you clicked on me! When will you build me legs?”
I have gone on record as saying that finishing things is where the professionals stand apart. I am not behaving very professionally here. But goddamnit I am in love with all of these ideas and they are pulling me in a bunch of cool directions.
Doesn’t help that I lost the entirety of Warhorse a couple weeks ago. The Chromebook I was writing on just…died. And of course, because it was a thing that I was tinkering on in the background, out of shame, I didn’t save it to the drive. Just kept it in the janky stick of onboard flash memory on that disposable shell. So now all 14k words of flavor and mechanics are just gone, along with four completed scripts for the Dead Belt podcast. All told, about 35k words that are just gone forever. That hurt a little, and I think it threw me off my game.
I’m going to get it together. Buckle down. Clean my plate. If only so I can chase the serotonin of picking a project because I’m legitimately in love with it again.

anyway it’s 5 am so that’s prime time to post a thesis i’ve been working on: it’s good to dissect individual productions (i do it all the time, even when i don’t mean to) but we also ought to see opera productions as parts of an ecosystem and not something that exists on their own. there’s a lot of productions i disagree with, but i’m able to see they have an important role in the operatic ecosystem that extends beyond whatever opera it is they’re trying to portray. ugly regie productions that exist solely to piss on the opera at hand, for example, are important because they make people mad, interrupt rich people socializing, and remind people they love the opera. those Standard Productions of the warhorse operas that have been around since the 70s but aren’t very interesting otherwise are important because they serve as a control point and a baseline and are more approachable for newcomers who want a standard first opera. it’s when an opera is a betrayal to this ecosystem that interesting things happen, and while it’s scarcely a good thing where there’s a monster there’s a miracle so i can’t write it off as Bad fully

Anonymous asked:  Okay, so, we know about Lady Duchess (who is, of course, Best Girl), but what about Ferdie's horse? Horses? Does he have separate ones for whatever he'd need (war, travel, leisure, etc.), or is it all just the same perfectly trained and talented steed? Has he had the same horse(s) since childhood, or has he bonded with different ones as he grew up? Regardless, we all know the horse(s) would always be immaculately groomed and on the best possible diet to ensure peak health and performance.
Ferdinand has several horses,  most of which were gifts from his parents  ( which, unrecognized by Ferdinand,  is not a very thoughtful gift when your family owns a the largest stable in Fódlan )  and they do each have different talents and uses,  although they remain back home in Aegir.  All of their names are ridiculous.  After his house is stripped of its wealth,  he reluctantly—and with a very heavy heart—sells a few of his finest beloved horses to pad his family’s dwindling coffers until he is able to seek out loans in his father’s stead.
He has had two warhorses,  the first of which he learned and trained upon as a child—a fiery mare named  Rán  whose orneriness is the sole reason Ferdinand is so skilled with horses.  This is also the horse he absconded from his childhood lessons with and the two often got up to no good together.  By the time he enrolls in the academy,  however,  Rán is too old for combat,  so she stays behind in Aegir to live out her remaining days in luxury.
At age 17,  he is gifted another destrier from his father,  this one named  Duke’s Pride XXXIX,  a descendant of Derick von Aegir’s famous mare  ( this particular line of pedigree runs through the dame rather than the sire ).  Duke’s Pride XXXIX is a pale white gelding  ( contrary to popular belief,  stallions are  not  used in combat )  with a fluffy,  uniformly curly coat.  This is the horse Ferdinand takes with him to Garreg Mach where the two become inseparable.  Duke’s Pride XXXIX is calm and well-disciplined,  the product of Ferdinand’s hard work with Rán.  Particularly forged during the war,  Ferdinand and his horse share a bond of the upmost trust,  able to read each other’s movements and signals like second nature,  which is half of what makes Ferdinand such a deadly warrior on the battlefield.  Duke’s Pride XXXIX is also Ferdinand’s most trusted confidant during the war.
Duke’s Pride XXXIX is indeed kept immaculately groomed,  and although Ferdinand struggles to learn how to braid his own hair,  he can braid a horse’s hair with ease.  As soon as the war is over,  Ferdinand gifts Duke’s Pride XXXIX a well-deserved early retirement back in the Aegir countryside,  where he becomes Ferdinand’s children’s favorite horse,  much like Rán was to Ferdinand.

Between Two Worlds (Edward A. Blatt, 1944) Cast: John Garfield, Paul Henreid, Sydney Greenstreet, Eleanor Parker, Edmund Gwenn, George Tobias, George Coulouris, Faye Emerson, Sara Allgood, Dennis King, Isobel Elsom, Gilbert Emery. Screenplay: Daniel Fuchs, based on a play by Sutton Vane. Cinematography: Carl E. Guthrie. Art direction: Hugh Reticker. Film editing: Rudi Fehr. Music: Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Sutton Vane's old warhorse of a play Outward Bound made its debut on Broadway in 1924 and became a community theater staple for many years after. It's a fantasy about the afterlife, in which passengers on a ship gradually come to realize that they're dead and will be judged by a man known as the Examiner, who will send them to their just deserts. Warner Bros. filmed it in 1930 with Leslie Howard as the cynical newspaperman Tom Prior and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. as the suicidal Henry, a role Howard had played on stage. In 1944 the studio decided it was time for a remake that would update the story to the war years: A group of people are desperate to get out of England during the Blitz and decide to risk sailing to America. Among them is Henry Bergner, a concert pianist who has been part of the Resistance in France but whose nerves have been shattered so that he can't take it anymore. When he's turned down because he doesn't have an exit permit, he decides to kill himself, so he returns to the flat he shares with his wife, Ann (Eleanor Parker), seals the windows shut, and turns on the gas. But Ann has pursued him to the steamship office, and when she finds out he has just left, she rushes into the street just in time to see a car carrying people who have successfully booked passage -- we have been introduced to them earlier -- blown to bits. She hurries on to the flat and discovers what Henry has done, so she decides to join him in death. Cut to the ship, where she and Henry join the people who have just been blown up. Henry and Ann realize that they're dead, but they're advised by the ship's steward, Scrubby (Edmund Gwenn), not to let the others know just yet. And so it goes, as the passengers gradually awake to the truth of their condition and undergo judgment by the Examiner, who was once an Anglican clergyman. Sydney Greenstreet plays him with his usual affably sinister manner -- in his scenes with Henreid it's a bit like watching Victor Laszlo being judged by Kasper Gutman. The bad people -- an arrogant capitalist played by George Coulouris and a snobbish society dame played by Isobel Elsom -- get dispatched to punishment; the sinful but worthy -- Garfield's raffish journalist and Faye Emerson's conscience-stricken playgirl/actress -- are provided with a measure of redemption. And then there are the suicides, Henry and Ann. It's revealed that their lot is to serve aboard these postmortem ships for eternity, like the steward Scrubby, who had killed himself. Since condoning suicide was taboo, especially under the Catholic-administered Production Code, the script has to provide an out for the attractive, repentant couple, and it does. There's a lot of stiff acting in the movie -- Garfield's is the only really naturalistic performance -- and the dialogue is full of heavy-handed exposition speeches. The capitalist and the socialite never rise above caricature, and there's a sentimental tribute to mother love. This is the first of only three films directed by Edward A. Blatt, and it's easy to see why there weren't more.

Obscure Animation Subject #73: Centaurworld
Originally posted on Twitter on May 23, 2023.
Created by Megan Nicole Dong, its a musical comedy drama about a warhorse who is transported from her embattled world to a strange and colorful land inhabited by vibrant, singing centaurs of all species, shapes and sizes.
Produced by Netflix Animation and Sketchshark Productions, it was released on Netflix for two seasons from July 30 to December 7, 2021. 18 episodes were produced in total. Obviously one of the many shows that were canceled in favor of Netflix renewing Big Mouth for more seasons.
Now I know that it was screwed over and it does have a promising premise, but how did it do in execution? It was surprisingly sour! The characters are are VERY annoying, okay maybe it was intended as annoyance but still, very annoying, especially the centaurs.
It doesn’t help that the characters are also one note and uninteresting. The writing is also a mess, it’s another failed serialized cartoon that has the "serious" moments done at the inappropriate of times and some episodes are just too stupid and idiotic even for them.
There are some good things about like the great soundtrack (especially since its a musical), the sugary settings are very appealing, colorful and nicely designed, and the animation is pretty good, when consistent. Got inconsistent in the last few episodes but whatever.
It’s not for me, but some other people may like this show, so I recommend giving it a chance to see what you think. No matter what you think of it (like me not liking it), having no proper ending is always disappointing, though if it did it would’ve been a nice ending.

Concrete Ready Mix Suppliers: Ensuring Timely And Reliable Deliveries
Tumblr media
With winter months unfolding their frosty essence, the perennial search for "concrete ready mix supplier" starts echoing louder in the labyrinth of search engine queries. The catch lies in ensuring timely and reliable deliveries. The matrix of supply-chain prowess and product quality intertwines, presenting a complex landscape for the discerning customer. But fear not! We will unfurl this matrix, like a map under a magnifying glass, to help you make informed decisions. Concrete Ready Mix Supplier: The Keystone Of Construction Projects Concrete stands as the silent, sturdy hero in the construction world, the gray rock that's the foundation of our urban landscapes. In particular, ready mix concrete, birthed at batching plants under precise conditions, assures consistency, saving time and energy at construction sites. Thus, choosing a proficient "ready mix concrete supplier" is a significant determinant of your project's success. On Time, Every Time: The Clockwork Of Deliveries Time, the invisible taskmaster, rules construction projects. Delay in concrete supplies could echo down the timeline, disrupting schedules and inflating costs. Hence, reliability and punctuality become paramount attributes when scouting for suppliers. Reviews, ratings, and customer testimonials serve as helpful compasses in this quest. Additionally, proximity plays a pivotal role – remember the axiom, "concrete supplies near me" to ensure swift delivery and prevent premature setting. Quality Uncompromised: The Backbone Of Trust Trust, in this context, hangs on the sturdy peg of quality. A competent supplier ensures consistency in their mix, avoiding unpleasant surprises in the form of inconsistent strength or setting times. Partnerships with suppliers providing rigorous quality checks build a solid ground for construction dreams. Casting Aside The Salt: A New Approach To Concrete Care In the grip of winter's icy fingers, the challenge of ice removal looms large. Salt, the conventional warhorse in this battle, has its glaring drawbacks. Concrete driveways bear the brunt of salt application, resulting in pitted and weakened surfaces. As an environmentally conscious alternative, Safe Thaw leaps into the spotlight. As a non-corrosive, concrete-friendly ice melt, it navigates the delicate balance between effective de-icing and concrete care. However, an important note to consider: even the gentle Safe Thaw recommends abstaining from use on concrete younger than 12 months. Freshly poured concrete needs time to gain strength, and premature application of any ice melt can be detrimental. In conclusion, the journey of selecting a "concrete ready mix supplier" unfurls like a challenging quest, fraught with variables and choices. However, armed with the right knowledge and tools, you can navigate this path effectively. We hope this guide serves as a beacon in your concrete journey, ensuring your projects stand the test of time, just like the concrete they are built upon. Read the full article
