from just the first episode i thought wednesday was kind of tropey and i didn’t really like what it did with the addams family canon BUT it’s just unbelievable how 100% perfectly they captured my 5th grade escapist fantasies. being a hypercompetent morbid weirdo who went to a boarding school whose whole aesthetic, theme, and curriculum was centered around death and danger and who was also a successful novelist and solved mysteries was so exactly what i dreamed about that i’m enjoying watching it just because it scratches that old itch with surgical precision
#in 5th/6th grade i had hair that was i think shoulder length but it actually got into such a big tangle that it was literally the entirety#of my hair#for some reason i decided to keep this a secret and wore my hair in a bun for like 4 months except that the bun was the shape my hair was in#when i finally admitted to it -- and mind you i didn't keep it secret out of a sense of shame or anything#i honestly don't remember what exactly it was -- i think i thought it would eventually resolve naturally and just didn't want to involve#anyone else#anyway the hairstylist who cut my hair deserves so much credit because she produced a really cute asymetrical bob out of it#and in my defense the knot developed shortly after my dad moved into a new house so a hairbrush for that house hadn't been bought yet#so if i wanted to brush my hair there i had to remember to take my brush from my mother's house which i obviously forgot all the time#wait why did i bring this up on a post about wednesday addams#OH because before that i DID for some period of time have 2 long braids#the 2-braided character i imprinted on as a child was sheeta from castle in the sky#she has her braids shot off by the villain#i donated my hair in the 2nd grade i think and me and bestie masha k (who was nausicaa in our ghibliverse RP)#were like 'omg....this is JUST like sheeta....the ancient prophecies are coming true'#as if it was some crazy coincidence and not a situation i directly created by asking my mother to make an appointment as supercuts#wait you know what else i just realized#yentl 🤝 sheeta#characters i imprinted upon who have two long braids that get cut off#very sleep deprived hence the stream of consciousness tags#OH regarding the fate of the hair knot#most of it was cut off as one discrete chunk and my aunt actually still has it in a plastic bag to this day#she calls it the 'hairloom' and the idea is to show it to the next generation if they ever wine about having to take care of their hair lmao

Destined to be alone—that's what Goody told Wednesday.
"Isn't it so exciting!" Enid squeals loudly at the table, causing Wednesday to wince at the happiness in her roommate's tone. "Oh, there she is!"
Wednesday knows she shouldn't look. She should keep her head straight down—better yet, she should leave.
"Wednesday, where are you going?" Enid asks, but her roommate has already stood up and walked off.
There's a briskness in Wednesday's walk even if she doesn't know where to go.
Her room?
No, it is too likely that Enid will bring you by.
The bee farm—no, there was too much of a chance of you visiting.
Wednesday only briefly considered Xavier's studio, but then she'd have to deal with his incessant questions.
How annoying, Wednesday thought. Everything in this forsaken penitentiary was already a reminder of you when you were gone. She couldn't roam a single hallway without your memory invading her mind.
"Wednesday."
She freezes in her steps. Even now, you were an unwelcome thought that distracted her from an ambush.
This was why—
"It's been a while," you say hesitantly. "A year in fact."
Wednesday turns around and immediately feels something constrict in her throat. You look mostly the same, but there's a growing maturity to you that's been blooming since the day Wednesday met you. Your eyes lack the dark circles and look lively, and your cheeks fuller.
You look happy, Wednesday realizes, something that you rarely did when you were with her.
Her fists remain clenched at her sides as she remains passive. "I suppose it has. Why have you returned?"
"Ouch," you say, laughing lightly, and the sound makes Wednesday want to bolt. You're pinching the side of your skirt, an obvious sign of your nervousness, and Wednesday wonders why you even bothered to call out to her.
You look around the empty hallway out of habit before looking back at her. "I told my parents I wanted to come back and finish my senior year. I'd like to graduate from Nevermore, and their recommendations to colleges really help."
College.
Wednesday feels the distant memory of you talking about it with her, only for her to give a noncommittal answer. You wanted to know where Wednesday planned to go, if she was even planning to go, just to see if you could follow or at least apply somewhere nearby.
But it looks like you've already decided your next path.
Something bitter builds in the back of Wednesday's throat, but she swallows down the acid. She doesn't have the right and will be damned if you make her a hypocrite.
Wednesday lets out a heavy sigh from her nose. "I see," is all she says before she turns and walks again.
"Wait, Wednesday—"
"What?" Wednesday turns around sharply, her tone callous and impatient.
The hurt that flashes across your face makes Wednesday feel humiliated, but it's all she knows how to do to keep you at a distance. If you stay away, then you can remain how you are now—happy.
"I just—" You swallow. "I just want to know that you're doing okay...that you're happy now."
"I don't feel anything," Wednesday narrows her eyes at you. "Did you come here to confirm something so ridiculous?"
"Yes," you put on a brave face even if you know that Wednesday is purposely being hurtful, "because I still care."
You watch carefully at Wednesday's face. Her eyes, her jaw, her lips—any sort of indication for something.
"Then you're a bigger fool than I thought," Wednesday finally says. "All I've ever been capable of bringing you misery."
"That's not true—"
"Isn't it?" Wednesday says haughtily. "I kept you a secret, made you invisible as you stayed beside me. I brought you along on all my investigations to the point where you were seriously injured."
"It wasn't that bad," you tried to say, but Wednesday scoffed.
"Don't take me for an idiot. I can still see your limp."
You clench your jaw, heat rising in your cheeks, but it's not like you can deny it.
Wednesday looks at you coolly, her expression aloof as she builds walls upon walls with spikes to keep you out. "And because you're so pathetic, you walked around suffering silently all the time but couldn't say it to my face. Even Enid had more guts than you."
There's a sharp breath from you, and Wednesday honestly thinks it's more torturing to see you try to put on a brave face in front of her. It's the same way you've always held back your tears around her.
You were the one thing Wednesday treasured the most, but it was obvious then and now that she was only capable of ruining everything she touched—that's why she was destined to be alone.
"So, as you can see, I'm perfectly fine," Wednesday turns away from you, beginning to walk away. "And if you want to be as well, stay away from me."

Hey hope you're doing well. I know it isn't a proper au yet but I was wondering if you could expand some more on the time travel au where Enid goes back to save Wednesday but something is wrong? Maybe we could see what is odd to her as it seems to be Wednesday who is acting different. The last post made it seem like Wednesday was slightly more affectionate with enid but enid didn't quite register it
Wednesday doesn't exactly touch enid! but she's definitely hovering around alot more, just a single easy grasp away
Yoko's been acting pretty weird too, a glint in her eyes when they all meet at the quad like usual. Which is.. huh?
wait a sec, have they all sat in the quad before?
Enid doesn't exactly.. remember
But the trio begin to walk to class with Enid chats up to her vampire friend, still stuck in the high of succeeding. So she's buzzing with excitement and giving a sheepish laugh when Wednesday grasps at her tie to fix it moments before they enter, scowling about what is up with you today?
Enid shrugs, a smile still on her face. "Can't a girl be happy?" she pouts and she blinks when Wednesday's face twitches.
Wednesday smooths the tie before tucking it into Enid's vest, not answering.
"She got you there, Addams," Yoko drawls before patting at the wolf's back. "we'll be here when class ends, nid!"
Enid stares, do they not have class together? "oh okay!" she gives a wave before entering. Not needing to look twice to see that it was a class about lycan history. Huh, no wonder they didn't have class together.
The class is loud like always and Enid zooms towards her seat in the middle. As she settles, the hairs on her skin rises and she looks up with a curious look.
A few students she doesn't remember loom over her. "Didn't expect you to come in so confident sinclair."
Enid's face scrunches at those words, her smile wilting for a moment at the toxicity. Was she going deaf or did that sound like a threat?
"Guess being the freak's bitch does that to someone huh?" another sneers and immediately Enid's lips dropped. "ofcourse being someone's pet would give you some backbone."
They cackle and Enid is left wondering why no one was saying a thing.
Did this-
What?
She was baffled, confused and quite frankly, bamboozled. The day was going so well and now she feels like she's in some kind of prank because there is no way someone would say this in school of all places.
"What did you just say?" She wonders, picking at her ear. No, surely she was hearing things. There was no way someone decided to be so brazen as to call Wednesday a freak. What were they, the normies of jericho?
"I called you the freak's bi-" Enid's hand shot out, tightly grasping their tie and bringing them close as she stood up. Her chair screeched and the class falls silent.
"say it again," she warns.
A teeth bared into a grin was their answer. "The freak's bitc-"
The sickening crunch of someone's nose was Enid's reply to that. A smile tugging at her lips as she lets go, watching as they stumble back with a string of curses. Blood pooled and spilled inbetween their fingers, it has Enid far too aware of her sharp teeth.
Her head throbbed.
Wednesday has called her thickheaded before but Enid's sure that Wednesday didn't expect her to see it as a good thing.

The L Word PT. 3🖋️
Wednesday Addams x Reader
The last chapter to a short 3 part series that came from character.ai. Hope you like it.
Warnings: ooc!wednesday, story came from my experience on character.ai so technically i didn’t make it up myself.
~
"I'm falling in love with you."
...
Wednesday pulls back, and waits for Y/N's reaction. But she only wears a vacant stare as she processes the ravenette's words. Her stomach drops and suddenly the room feels hot. She gives the girl in front of her a cheeky grin.
"Hmm, yeah, pretty twisted indeed." Wednesday glares.
"Oh, quit acting like you're surprised. You know it's true. Now, you promised me another kiss. Don't break it." She girl in front of her giggles as she leans into her.
"Okay, okay!" And she pulls the ravenette in by the back of her neck and kisses her. Wednesday kisses back just as passionately, fingers digging into the flesh of Y/N's arms. They pull away with gasps for air, lips swollen and red. Wednesday asks,
"Was that good enough?" Y/N rolls her eyes playfully.
"Stop asking me that. You know you're a good kisser. I always make sure I let you know that." She winks suggestively. Wednesday looks away, her stoic face cracking just slightly. She's a little flustered, jaw clenching. But the ravenette puts her hand on the girl's cheek and says,
"Come here. Kiss me one more time." Y/N smiles cheekily.
"Why don't you get under the covers with me instead? Take those massive shoes off first though." She says while looking down at the black platformed sneakers she adorns all the time. Wednesday takes her shoes off as the other girl moves over to provide room, neatly placing them to the side, and slides under the covers with her. Just as she's about to catch herself snuggle with Y/N, she stops. A quiet moment passes and the ravenette looks at her thoughtfully.
"By the way. Did you like watching me sleep?" Y/N laid there confused for a moment, but suddenly came to the realization. Wednesday knew of the passed times she'd watched her sleep when Wednesday would come and spend a night in her dorm, away from her snoring and growling roommate. Not in a creepy weird way of course. But on occasion there'd be nights where the girl would have trouble falling back to sleep once she woke up. And what better thing do to than watch the pretty girl in her bed sleep? A moment and place where the ravenette lets her guard down and allows herself to be vulnerable in front of her. But alas, not everything goes your way. Considering she was never actually asleep. She’s also not surprised, since Wednesday’s a light sleeper. But why bring it up, she’s not sure.
"....I could ask you the same thing. Shut up and go to sleep." Y/N chuckles and lightly taps the girl's cheek. Hesitant, Wednesday grabs Y/N's wrist.
"Sleep horribly."
~
And there you have it. The End. Hope you liked this very tiny minuscule series that definitely shouldn’t have taken so long to be finished releasing. This was my first ever time writing something and actually posting it to the public. I’m really only a reader, not a writer, so be light on me 😭. Anyway, I might post different stuff relating to Wednesday. Just lemme know what you wanna see and pop an ask in.
Layta 👋🏼.

Hi could you do Tyler galpin x reader x Wednesday Addams where they both have a crush on the reader so it’s just them fighting for the readers love
Fighting Over You | Tyler Galpin x gn reader x Wednesday Addams
It was obvious to everyone that Tyler and Wednesday didn't like eachother, but nobody knew the reason why. There were rumors, of course, but none of them were the truth. They both liked you, and would do just about anything to keep the other away from you.
You knew this of course, it was getting pretty obvious. Whenever you were in Jericho Wednesday tried to keep you as far from the Weathervane as possible. If you had somehow ran into Tyler, the two of them would glare at eachother the entire time.
One day Enid drug Wednesday off somewhere, so you took the chance to go to the Weathervane.
"The usual?" Tyler asked as you stepped up to the counter.
"Yes please." You said, digging in your pocket for your wallet.
"It's on me today, you can go sit down and I'll bring it to you in just a minute." Tyler said, shaking his head as you tried to give him the money.
"Tyler, you don't have to-"
"But I am, go sit down." He laughed, shooing you away.
You rolled your eyes at him, going to sit at your regular booth in the corner. Moments later Tyler brought your coffee, sliding into the booth across from you.
"How did you finally get away from Wednesday?" He asked as you took a sip of coffee.
"Enid forced her to go shopping." You smiled, glancing out the window to see Enid dragging Wednesday into another store across the street.
"I was wondering, maybe we could go out sometime?" Tyler asked nervously, hoping that you would say yes.
"Like a date?" You asked, knowing fully well that is exactly what he had meant.
"If that's okay." He said, not wanting to push you.
"Yes, I'd love to go on a date with you." You said, smiling.
"I have my lunch break in half an hour, if you want to go then. Or else we can do it some other time." Tyler said, standing up when a customer walked through the door.
"Half an hour sounds great. I better go now, so you can get back to work." You said, finishing your coffee.
"Great, I'll see you then." Tyler grinned, not hearing the customer ring the bell on the counter.
"Now get to work, I'll be back soon." You said, kissing him on the cheek before leaving.
As soon as you had left, Tyler hurried to get the now impatient customer's order.
When you stepped outside Enid and Wednesday were waiting for you.
"What was that?" Wednesday asked, having been watching you and Tyler through the window.
"What was what?" You asked, playing dumb as you started walking.
"You kissed him!" Enid exclaimed excitedly.
"On the cheek." You said.
"But why?" Wednesday asked, disgusted.
"He asked me on a date." You said, knowing that didn't really clear it up.
"Did you say yes?" Enid asked.
"Yeah, I did." You replied with a smile, making Enid squeal.
"When? And where?" She asked.
"In half an hour, and I'm going to meet him back there." You said.
"You two are going to be so cute! I can't wait to post this on my blog." Enid said, already planning her new post.
"Enid, we haven't even gone on a date yet. Please don't post anything, I dont need the whole school knowing about my love life." You said.
"Fine, but you better tell me everything." Enid said.
"If he hurts you, I'll kill him." Wednesday said, not at all happy that you were going on a date with Tyler Galpin of all people.
"I'll tell you everything, and no killing." You said, rolling your eyes at Wednesday.
"No promises."

3 | Knock It Off
Series: Valentine Addams | Wednesday
Paring: (Xavier Thorpe x OFC Addams! Tyler Galpin x OFC Addams!)
Word Count: 1721
Warnings: Xavier just jealous of Tyler
Last: Therapy | Next: Changing
Tumblr media
So far Nevermore hasn't been bad and I was surprised how well I made friends. Well, except for Bianca. We were more like frenemies because we were very competitive against each other. Especially in fencing most of the time we went against each other it came to the tie. Me and Yoko got along pretty quickly being roommates. Enid and I were sometimes alike but in different fonts. Xavier and me were good friends which Bianca didn't like at all. It took awhile for Ajax to stop being nervous around me. Divina and Kent were alright, I wasn't super close to them but I knew Divina more because of Yoko.
Having to join a club I met Eugene and he remained me of Pugsley so I treated him like a brother. There was Rowan, who was basically an outcast of outcast. We had a few conversations but he never stuck around long. Lastly was Tyler. After every therapy session I would go over to the Weathervane to get a Hot Chocolate and talk to Tyler as he worked. Xavier didn't quite like me talk to Tyler telling me what he did to him last year. I understand that it was bad because he put time into his work, but compared to what I do to people... It didn't seem that big of a deal to me.
"Bianca seems a little pissed today. Do you know what happed?" Yoko asks Divina as some of us were going into town today.
"Xavier broke up with her." She looks at Bianca in the front of the bus alone before telling us making Enid gasp next to me.
"Why?" She asks wanting more details for her blog.
"She won't talk about it." Divina tells her and I watch Enid start typing on her phone.
I look in the back to see Xavier looking out the window listening to music alone. When we all get off the bus the girls take off and I wait for Xavier.
Once he sees me he takes out his earbuds, "Why are you looking at me like that?" He asks annoyed.
"Wanna get a drink and a snack from the Weathervane? We can talk about whatever." I suggest to him.
"Sure." We head over there.
"The usual and?" Tyler asks Xavier as we walk up so he tells him before we go sit in a booth.
"I'm assuming you heard the news. I know Enid just posted about it on the way here. Is that why you want to talk to me?" Xavier leans back on his side.
"I wanna know how a friend's doing. And if you want to talk about it you can but if you don't it's okay." I do the same.
"We broke up for two reasons." He looks out the window as Tyler brings us our drinks.
"Thank you." I tell him as he leaves. "What are your reasons since you broke up with her." I sit up.
"The main reason is because I had doubts about Bianca and her intentions as a siren. I'm constantly paranoid that she's using her siren song me and we keep getting into fights over it." He sits up looking at his drink.
"But she has her amulet she wears." I tell him.
"I'm still paranoid about it." He sighs.
"Is there another reason?" I ask.
"The second reason is she doesn't like our friendship." He rolls his eyes.
"Like you with me about..." I motion towards Tyler.
"It's different." He eyes Tyler working.
"Stop it." I kick his leg underneath the table, "But why does she have a problem with me with you? I don't treat you any differently than others and you don't treat me differently either." I raise an eyebrow.
"She doesn't think that." He messes with his hands.
"Well she's stupid because I don't like you like that. I don't like anyone for a fact. You have to prove you're worth my time. And it takes a lot to melt my semi ice cold heart." I explain to him not seeing the slight disappoint on his face.
"You don't mind if I draw while we sit here, right?" Xavier pulls stuff out of his bag.
"Do you have an extra book I can draw in while we sit here?" I ask him.
"Here. I haven't used this one. You can keep it." He passes me one and a pencil.
"Thanks, I'm going to use you as my muse." I open up the book.
"Okay." He laughs before we sit in silence sketching each other.
After awhile I take a break to go use the restroom then go to the counter to ask for another drink. "Hey Ty, can I have another and two croissants?" I come around the corner leaning on the counter.
"I had a feeling you would come ask at some point. Sure, I'll bring it after this customer." He gives me a smile that makes me feel happy on inside but never show it, "Thanks." I go join Xavier who was glaring at me. "Knock it off, Thorpe." I huff taking my seat.
"I told you he's bad news." He huffs as well making me turn to look at Tyler for a second to see him making my cup with a slight smile before tuning back around.
"Yes, because the boy with the light-brown curly hair, greenish eyes, and a kindly smile is bad news. Xavier, I know what he did to you but I'm worse. I can handle myself." I roll my eyes.
"For someone who, in fact doesn't like anyone, sure described him like you do." He rolls his eyes drawing.
"You have golden brown shoulder length hair, eyes are a light olive color with brown surrounding the pupil, when you smile you get dimples." I say making him look at me, "I'm just good at describing someone."
"Your hot chocolate with two croissants like you asked. Do you want another drink or anything else?" Tyler sets my stuff down then asks Xavier.
"I'm good." He tells him coldly. Tyler just nods his head leaving the booth. "I don't see how you're friends with him." Xavier goes for one of my croissants so I smack his hand away,
"Because he's nice to me and that's all that matters when it comes to me. And he asked if you wanted anything so don't touch my shit." I explain to him going back to my drawing.
Bianca ends up coming in with Divina and a few of her other siren friends catching sight of Xavier and I. "She looks pissed." I laugh so I give her a smile and a little wave.
"Now you knock it off, Addams." Xavier reaches across the table putting my hand down.
"Why? Let me have some fun."  I say eyeing her as she glares at me.
"Why would you want to piss her off more when you're kinda one of the reasons I broke up with her?" He leans on the table refusing to look her way.
"Because I love chaos." I lean on the table as well starring him in the eyes.
"You're terrible." He shakes his head at me.
"Thank you." I give him a smile.
"I'm finished by the way." Xavier shows me his drawing.
"You finally got my nose right." I say before showing him mine.
"Oh my god. It's like a fucking picture. You still haven't show me your work so I'm amazed. You said I'm quite the artist but you are a artist " He takes it from me looking at it more.
"I'm best at people." I take it back as he hands it back over to me. "I'm gonna go pay for our drinks. Then meet you at the bus." We get up and go different directions.
"How much do I owe you? I'm paying for Xavier's too." I walk up to Tyler.
"It's on the house." He walks over to me. "Ty, no. How much, really? I normally wouldn't care if someone told me that but you're a friend and this is your job." I tell him getting serious.
"No, really it's on the house." He smiles making me get all warm again.
"Fine, here's your tip." I put a twenty in the tip jar.
"Valentine." He pulls it out trying to give it back to me.
"Nope, you worked for it. See you tomorrow since I have my session with Kinbott. I gotta bus to catch." I rush out getting on the shuttle.
"How much do I owe you?" Xavier asks as I take a seat next to him.
"Nothing. He said it was on the house for the both of us." I keep it short and Xavier rolls his eyes.
Back at the school walking towards my dorm Bianca show up, "I can't believe he left me for you." She eyes me.
"He didn't but if he did I would say he upgraded. But Xavier is just a friend to me. I don't date. Plus it's quite difficult to melt my semi ice cold heart." I tell her with a straight face.
"An upgrade?" She laughs crossing her arms.
"Yes. Now I think this conversation is over." I walk past her going to my dorm. As soon as I enter the room the crystal ball was going off. "Mother, father." I answer it.
"How are you doing my black widow?" My father asks me.
"Good. Just got back from the town with some friends." I tell him.
"I'm still so proud of you making friends at Nevermore." My mother gets a big smile.
"I'm quite impressed with myself actually." I tell them.
"Enid, I told you no." Yoko huffs as she walks into the room with her following her.
"Val, did Xavier tell you why he broke up with Bianca?" She rushes over to me.
"Mother, Father, I'll call you back tomorrow."
"Okay, dear." They end the call.
"Spill the tea." Enid shakes me, "And don't tell me he didn't because if he was to tell anyone it would be you." She glares at me.
"I'm not telling you, Enid. It's not going on your blog. I keep other's secrets to myself." I tell her making her pout. "It's not going to work on me." I look at her with no emotions.
"Fine..." She huffs crossing her arms.

Yuletide Recs 2019
Happy Yuletide, everyone! First, I got a delightful little fic written for me: promenade.  My Fair Lady, Eliza Doolittle and Mrs. Higgins.  Wonderful story.  Mrs. Higgins was superb, and Eliza's reactions to the English upper class abroad are perfect. Here are some other fics I have enjoyed: 4'33"--John Cage The Sound Of A Yuletide Fic Not Being Written. There sure are a lot of cars going by.  Great meta look at writing, and 4'33" The Addams Family (movies) An Addams Family Contract (Written in Secret, Signed in Blood).  “I’m an Addams,” Debbie protests indignantly. Immediately after making this statement, Debbie realized that it was true.  (Or, Wednesday wants to exorcise Debbie. Debbie wants to kill Wednesday. A negotiation begins.)  This is AMAZING and hysterically funny, and the thought of Debbie and Wednesday working together is TERRIFYING. Don't I Deserve Love (and Jewelry).  The plan to win Wednesday’s friendship did not start well. She shared her admiration for the girl’s blowtorch, then hinted about her own childhood affinity for matchsticks and fire accelerants, but Wednesday was unimpressed.  Do better,” she said before lowering her hockey mask and stalking after Pubert. Honeymoon in Transylvania.  Ahahahaha, this is wonderful.  Gomez and Morticia vs. the TSA! Alien Series A Room with a Crappy View. 17k of Ripley and Hicks awesomeness post-Aliens. This is an absolutely AMAZEBALLS fic, and I LOVE it. I love that they deal with their trauma. I love how they wrote the Colonel, doing the best she could on the evidence she had and how frustrating that was and yet, when you look at it from her POV, what better way could she have handled it? The action is great, the relationships between Ripley and Hicks and Bishop were awesome, this is an absolute treat. All About Eve Getting Back to Being a Woman.  Karen knew enough not to go to New Haven.  Never let it be said that Margo Channing doesn't know how to take care of her friends.  I love this. I could just hear Bette Davis and the others saying their lines, and the ending is perfect--I think Karen and Lloyd will be able to have a much better relationship after this, if he's willing to accept and live into the changed relationship. Till I have the possession of everything she touches.  Addison DeWitt/Eve Harrington and their daughter.  VERY well done Addison perspective. Aubrey-Maturin series. Vent de Boulet.  Jack & Aubrey, Teen.  The aftermath of Stephen's escape from the French interrogators at Port Mahon.  Wonderful portrayal of the relationship between them and natural consequences of their trauma-filled lives. Babette's Feast Body and Soul.  After the French dinner, a new normal established itself among the faithful. Ballet Shoes A Long Way from the Cromwell Road.  Petrova visits Pauline in Hollywood after the war ends. Bletchley Circle Logical Recovery.  After the showdown with Marta Magro at the warehouses, Jean, Millie, and Lucy embark for Glasgow to find Eliška. Archival research, an extended stay with Jean's cousin, undercover rescue missions, and much emotional processing of past events ensue. Cabaret Infinite Variety.  London, 1950. Clifford has coming looking for Sally. Instead he finds a girl who may or may not be her – or their – daughter, the reclusive former Master of Ceremonies, and an annoying parrot. He becomes part of their strange household, full of love and bickering; sorrow, pain and music. No-one will tell him where Sally is, or even whether she’s alive. No-one will tell him anything. Except the parrot, who tells him that life is a Cabaret.  Oh, wow, this is painful but SO GOOD and the ending is perfect. DC Teen Titans From Cold to Fire.  "Do you want to go out with me?" "What?" “Don’t know if you love me or you want me dead”
Shawn fell asleep after his time with Sapphire. It wasn't a deep sleep, though. He faded in and out of consciousness, opening his eyes every so often and wondering where he was and why there was a hand around his neck. Rain was hitting the windows, which caused an uproar in the straggling party guests still outside. The sounds weren't unfamiliar to Shawn, and neither was the squeezing sensation around his neck.
“Push me away, push me away… beg me to stay, beg me to stay”
The fourth time Shawn opened his eyes was when he was waking up from a nightmare. He couldn't quite remember what he was seeing in his sleep, he just felt that fear strike his chest and send him back to the waking life. Wheezing, he touched his neck, feeling pain like bruises on the skin. But that was a dream, wasn’t it?
Perhaps he was still dreaming, he thought as he spotted something in the corner by the bedroom door. Shawn wasn’t exactly afraid, just confused. Why was the figure so far away? Why wouldn’t they come to bed? There was a lot of room here. He looked down at Sapphire, but all that was left was an empty space.
The figure in the corner was Sapphire. Head down at an angle, her hair almost covering her face like the girl from The Ring. Her eyes were open, but hooded and so red they lit up that corner of the room.
“...something in the way you looking through my eyes…”
Shawn leaned forward a little to get a better look, to make sure that that was Sapphire. He was still unafraid, just a little confused. His eyes were heavy, and he was prepared to just let it go for the night. But he felt the hand around his neck again, and air stopped moving through his lungs.
“Don’t know if I’m gonna make it out alive…”
~
Sapphire was not joking when she said she wanted to keep Shawn around. The morning after the party, she had people bring his luggage from the hotel he was supposed to be staying at. Andrew had a few stern words to say, but Shawn reminded him that he was on a break right now. There weren't any work-related obligations to take care of. Even if there were, Shawn may have cancelled, because living in Sapphire's home was incredible.
Take Ariana's 7 Rings, and put it in real life. Breakfast at Tiffany's and bottles of bubbles. That's what it was like for the next few days. Now, Shawn has had his own taste of the good life during his time as a celebrity, but there was something different about the energy here. The butlers (yes, there were others besides Charles) always hovered a little bit, making sure that Shawn had everything he needed. Every maid was a little jumpy, always yelping or nearly toppling over a vase every time he walked past one of them when they didn’t see him. The only person who wasn’t moderately scatterbrain was Kat. She was very determined to remain professional around Shawn.
“You have a call with Spain today,” she told Sapphire, who was sat at the table in the garden with Shawn. They were having a delicious breakfast of eggs, sausages, and beans. Sounds plain, but when it comes from the chefs of a 27 year old billionaire, it hits different.
“Oh, KitKat,” she replied, looking up at her assistant, “when will Spain realize that there is nothing between us?”
Shawn couldn’t tell if she was referring to the country or a person with a country’s name. He chewed his food slowly, feeling pain in his throat. Maybe he was coming down with something. It was awfully cold the night of the party.
“I will tell them you’re on vacation… again,” Kat said, texting on her phone. “Okay, next: you have a meeting with the contractors to discuss the expansion of your closet. After that, you have a Skype meeting with the head of the Butterflies for the Better charity to further discuss the conflicts of interest with said head of charity.”
“Mm,” Sapphire hummed. Then she looked up from her plate. “Wait. Conflict of interest?”
Kat let out a breath, like she wasn’t keen on saying her next statement. “It seems that the head of the charity, Ms. Santiago herself, noticed your interest in her. She would have removed you from the organization altogether if you didn’t have something the charity needs: funding.”
It was kind of difficult to act like Shawn wasn’t listening in on this conversation, but he looked up at the two women, mild interest on his face. There was a name he recognized in there after all.
“Something you want to add, Mr. Mendes?” Kat asked, acknowledging him for the first time in days.
Sapphire looked at him as well, blue eyes expectant.
“Butterflies for the Better,” he said. “I, uh, I helped Bella get it off the ground last year. Didn’t know Sapphire was a trustee.”
“I am,” she said with a grin. “It’s such a wonderful charity, I didn’t know you had a hand in bringing it to life.”
Shawn nodded. “Yeah, yeah. I mean, I owe Bella a lot so I figured I could help her. But, what’s this conflict of interest thing?”
It turns out, Sapphire followed Bella’s YouTube channel almost religiously and had a not-so-tiny-or-secret crush on her. The two of them met in 2017, and kept in contact every so often. Meaning, Sapphire was not shy with her flirtatious comments on Bella’s Instagram posts. Bella wanted her involved in the charity’s creation, but only if Sapphire remained professional.
“I can’t help it. Have you seen her?” Sapphire pouted.
“Yeah, she’s very pretty,” Shawn told her. “But this isn’t about that. You have to keep the charity’s interests as a priority.”
“But do I have to Skype her for that?” she whined.
“How else is she going to know you’re serious?” Kat asked in return.
Shawn thought for a moment. He’s known Bella for a good few years, and while she has grown and evolved, some things just never changed.
“I think a text would be better,” he told the two women. “She doesn’t like anything resembling a phone or Skype call.”
Kat scoffed. “It’s unprofessional.”
“She’ll appreciate it,” he persisted. “And I just saw you text Spain, so.”
“Do what my little one says, KitKat,” Sapphire said pointedly.
The eye contact the two of them shared made Shawn remember a few questions he had to ask. He would have to wait when Kat wasn’t around, though. He was expecting some tension, dirty looks, or even something not-so-great between her and Sapphire, but things were… easy? Things were okay, and laidback? It was weird, but Shawn wasn’t going to complain. He just had to know why it was like this.
Sapphire was quick to slightly change the topic when Kat went back inside the mansion. "Speaking of Bella, she's in a video with another YouTuber, it came out today! You wanna watch it?"
"Yeah," Shawn replied. He was down for relaxing with a pretty girl and watching his equally pretty friend on YouTube.
The two went back inside, and Sapphire led him to one of the many sitting rooms with massive plasma screens. She excitedly booted up YouTube and put on said video, "I Spent a Day with Legendary Beauty Gurus."
Bella was among two other beauty gurus, separate interviews that were cut together into one video. They were all interviewed about "the wonderous world of being a makeup artist on YouTube." However, Bella referred to herself as an "almost artist," saying that she dropped out of cosmetology school to pursue YouTube and attend the university for it. The interview was pretty funny and lighthearted, while being educational at the same time. The interviewer, Anthony Padilla, was quite funny himself and even hugged Bella when she got deep about a particular question. He wasn’t just some sleeze trying to get dirt and gossip out of his guests.
"I like this guy," Shawn said after the video was over, grabbing the remote and flicking through the recommended section. "Man, he's interviewed so many people. Sugar babies, OG YouTubers, furries? And…"
He stopped on one video, his stomach turning at the thumbnail. There was Anthony, with the inquisitive look on his face, and next to him was a very familiar face.
"I Spent a Day with GOTHS"
"Something catch your eye?" Sapphire asked him. "You can put on whatever you want."
Shawn pressed play before his brain could process it. There was the dramatic intro as always and the animation of Anthony plopping down in his seat before introducing himself. Shawn's heart went faster in anticipation as he watched each guest be introduced. One was a bald man in his 40s with tattoos all over his scalp, with a charming smile. Another was a lady with a mohawk and about a thousand face piercings and a serious tone. The last one was in fact-
"Ann! So nice to meet you!"
"You too!"
Her face was exactly the same. Her hair got longer, and there were bright green and blue streaks in it. She pushed strands behind her ear, revealing many piercings. She was in her signature black lipstick and a Wednesday Addams type of dress, paired with fishnets and leather platform boots.
Anthony got the same vibe. “Got a Wednesday look, I see.”
Ann chuckled. “She’s my style icon.”
Like the previous video, it cut back and forth between all three guests, but Shawn only cared about one. He leaned forward on the couch, immediately consumed by Ann’s voice and focusing in on her body language. She still rubbed her hands together, an indication that she was nervous to be on camera. The video was edited to zoom in on that gesture, since she did it so often as she was asked the first question.
“So what do you refer to yourself as? A goth, a death enthusiast?” Anthony asked.
“You know, I’ve never said I was goth out loud,” Ann said, “even though I looked the part, and other people said I was. I think within the last four or five years I’ve called myself a goth and just embraced the name.”
Shawn couldn’t believe it. He checked the video description to see when it came out, and it was a year ago. Four years prior to that, Ann was still dating him. At what point during university did she externally take on that label? Shawn couldn’t remember an instance where she called herself a goth.
He didn’t fast forward through the video even though he wanted to. He was still aware of the pink lady sat by him, even though she was scrolling on her phone, having gotten bored of the video already.
“Did you always wear black, or did you have a phase during your life of wearing other colors?”
“It’s funny, because my parents are polar opposites. My dad’s a goth and my mom is, for lack of a better word, a normie,” Ann said, folding her arms.
“Really? A goth and a normie?” Anthony replied, surprised.
The video cut to one of the other guests answering that question. Shawn huffed out a breath, almost sitting back until Ann came back on the screen.
“Yeah. So when I was a baby, they took turns dressing me everyday. One day I was in a pink frilly dress, the next I was in a plain black onesie. But as I got older, I migrated towards black and they let me wear dark clothes all the time.”
“Did you get made fun of in school?”
“Oh, I got made fun of all the way through university. The trick is to play along and the normies will stop giving a shit.”
Anthony laughed. “Really? Like how?”
Again, the video cut. Shawn grew impatient and grabbed the remote, forwarding the video until he saw Ann again.
“Okay, there was a guy I knew in college. Every time he’d see me, he was like ‘who’s soul are you sacrificing today?’ And I just looked around at our group of friends and said ‘I haven’t decided yet’ or like ‘I’m not hungry for souls, I want a heart instead.’”
That made Anthony’s and Shawn’s jaws drop. While Anthony was entertained by that answer, Shawn knew exactly what Ann was talking about. She had that interaction with Brian the first time they were introduced. It became a running joke with the two of them.
"What is a common misconception that the majority have about the goth subculture?"
"That we're all depressed and suicidal! I mean I am depressed but that has nothing to do with my tendency to wear black and think about the inevitability of death!"
Anthony chuckled. "You sound like a friend of mine."
"Seriously, like eighty percent of the goths I meet are some of the happiest people I've ever met!" Ann was talking louder, and using her hands more. She was hyping herself up. "We've reached a point where we respect ourselves enough to express ourselves exactly how we want, and be our authentic selves! What about that seems sad or depressing?"
It was true, because Shawn had seen that in her in the past. Ann was happiest in her darkest colors. She had a talent of making the most morbid things look beautiful.
As the other guests spoke, Shawn had no choice but to think back to Brian. He felt the pang of guilt that was still on his chest. He hadn’t spoken to Brian since the birthday party, and he had been too distracted with Sapphire to actually do anything about it. Shawn really ditched his best friend for a girl. Sure Sapphire is fun, and incredibly sexy. She’s a mindblowing lay…
Shawn zoned back into the video upon hearing his own name. He saw Ann chuckling, but quickly rewound the video to catch the context.
“So, as a goth, you tend to deviate from mainstream things,” Anthony prompted. “Is there any type of mainstream media you do enjoy?”
“Yeah, there are some pop artists I like,” Ann replied, nodding her head.
“Like who?”
“Uh… name some, and I’ll tell you.”
“Taylor Swift?”
“No.”
“Billie Eilish?”
“No.”
“Shawn Mendes?”
Ann went silent for a moment, brown eyes flickering to the camera. Then she chuckled, and rubbed her hands together.
Anthony grinned. “Did I guess one?”
Then, the video cut again. Frustrated, Shawn grumbled under his breath, not even realizing that Sapphire was paying attention once again.
“Something wrong, darling?” she asked.
He ignored her and fast forwarded again. Ann was on the screen.
“It’s funny you mention Shawn Mendes,” she said. “I actually loved him at one point in my life.”
“Yeah? Big fan?”
“Definitely.”
Shawn’s eyes were wide. It seemed like he was the only person that knew the real meaning of Ann’s statement. At one point in her life, she loved him. And he loved her. He loved her so much that her presence still lingers in his head and heart to this day, and it’s been almost five years since they broke up.
He didn’t like admitting it to himself, but Shawn was starting to think that Brian was right, and that was why he was kicked out of the makeshift dressing room the other night.
Sapphire piped up once the video was over, her hand reaching over and gently touching the back of Shawn’s neck. “Are you a goth or something? Why were you so interested in that video?”
He felt a weird chill and a type of deja vu go down his spine. It passed quickly, and he focused on the question. Sure, he was staying in this mansion for a while, but Sapphire was by no means a girlfriend, or someone with any kind of romantic interest in him. He could be honest. “That girl in the thumbnail. She’s my ex.”
That made the blonde grin with surprise. “Is she really? Didn’t know you had a type.”
Shawn chuckled. “A type?”
“Well of course. You dated a goth girl in the past. You slept with my assistant, who also dips into that realm.”
“You, you knew about me and Kat?” He blushed, and a pit formed in his stomach.
Sapphire giggled. “I know everything, baby. Can’t hide anything in this house,” she said with a wink. “And I don’t mind. We’re not dating, and you’re both hot. Everyone should love everyone at one point.” She suddenly gasped, her hands reaching for his arm. “Wait until you meet Sam! He’s going to come round in a few days! I adore him, and I know you will too!”
There was so much to take in, Shawn felt like he had whiplash.
