I appreciate all of my patreon supporters for sticking with me through all the ups and downs and encouraging me by allowing me to create in my own way at my own pace so I can have a health life/comic work balance🙇🏾‍♀️💖✍️🏾
I'm a mom of 3 and was laid off from work so trying to manage bills, comics while being present for my children has been a struggle but this is why I appreciate my supporters so much and even if you are unable to be a patreon supporters thats okay because I also appreciate my readers who enjoy my work and also don't pressure me during my creative process💖🙇🏾‍♀️

Welcome to the Boiling Isles!
This was made back in October and it was turned into a Risograph poster, my first time doing so! I was inspired by vintage travel posters~

Women are 17% more likely to die in a car crash, and 73% more likely to become severely injured.* Most of these injuries are to the pelvis and spine. Women are twice as likely as men to become trapped in a car following an accident.
Why? Previously, the only “female” crash test dummy available was a 50th percentile male dummy with fake boobs** which isn’t used in the driver’s seat, despite women being the majority of drivers in the US. That’s for front impact! For rear impact, the “female” test dummy isn’t used at all. I can’t remember which dummy was used for side impact testing, but regardless, still won’t be particularly useful since, as is kinda obvious, especially from the injury patterns, women are not the same shape as men.
But guess what! There’s now a female crash test dummy that is based on actual data from actual women’s bodies!
…annnnd no manufacturers are using it because it’s not required. They’re even lobbying to keep it from being required, because ofc, how dare tiny barely noticeable impact to bottom line. The EU is evidently working on some regulations, but the US? Hahahaha. Do not have data on the rest of the world but since literally no manufacturer is currently using this data, it is not promising.
This means there’s approximately 1300 preventable deaths and 400k preventable injuries in the US alone. Every year. Seems like the sort of thing we should be able to influence, right? Maybe some bipartisan legislation to improve car safety for everyone by requiring the use of the latest greatest crash test dummies?
If you are in the US, you can contact Pete Buttigieg, secretary of transportation, on Twitter at @SecretaryPete. You can call and write your senators and representatives. You can reblog this. Heck, if you can get Taylor Swift or whoever is a mover and shaker in the KPop communities to tweet or make an instagram post or TikTok or whatever the hell they do about this topic (referencing Caroline Criado Perez and not me I am but an innocent relayer of information), pleeeease do it. And if you aren’t in the US, what does your regulation landscape look like and who can you bother?
* All this information is from Caroline Criado Perez’s fabulous podcast Visible Women. She also has an amazing book, Invisible Women, and a weekly newsletter of the same name, discussing the gender data gap.
**this sounds fake but hand to god

New season of Visible Women is out!! First episode is about menstrual blood, and it’s excellent. There were a few moments in which I was absolutely enraged listening to it:
One, the quote from a peer reviewer of a paper about menstrual blood’s uses in medicine. The quote is:
In general, the topic idea is not that novel and could not be accepted as it is since almost all articles in the literature reported the severe undesirable and toxic effects of menstrual blood and all its constituents on the human body. Even in all religions, it is well known that menstrual blood and its stem cells are extremely, very toxic and of very low quality. This blood contains the destructive metabolic constituents with very potent cytotoxic activities. Thus, in toxicological criminology, some women in some cultures use very few drops of its potent toxic extract to secretly kill their husbands.
The fact that not only someone is stupid enough to believe this, but that this most-likely-a-man is a PEER REVIEWER?? Like his opinion mattered! It stopped something from being published!! And this dumbass piece of shit waste of air thinks you can KILL PEOPLE with menstrual blood!!! He was fucking quoting RELIGION. Like that shit is blatantly, provably untrue, and yet he wasn’t immediately removed from being a peer reviewer. What the hell.
Two, going over some old beliefs about menstrual blood, this was a quote from Pliny the Elder, a famous Roman natural philosopher:
Contact with it turns new wine sour, crops touched by it become barren, grafts die, seeds in gardens are dried up, the fruit of trees falls off, the bright surface of mirrors in which it is merely reflected is dimmed. The edge of steel and the gleam of ivory are dulled. Hives of bees die. Even bronze and iron are at once seized by rust and a horrible smell fills the air. To taste it drives dogs mad and infects their bites with an incurable poison.
Bolding mine. Like, not only is this untrue, it is the absolute opposite of true. Menstrual blood is GOOD for plants, I’ve seen it used as fertilizer!! Like, come on.
Anyways it’s super good, if you haven’t listened to Visible Women yet I highly recommend it!!
