WITCHER FIC IDEA TIME
i saw a tiktok post by @/violadagoomba who does gregorian chant talking about the guidonian hand, which was a visual way music instructors taught music theory by indicating places on their hand which correlated to different notes and was first depicted/used to teach hexachord in the 12th century or so. which meeeeeans~~~ guess who TOTALLY not only learned with but also taught using the guidonian hand??
THATS RIGHT!!
MASTER OF THE SEVEN LIBERAL ARTS VICOUNT JULIAN ALFRED PANKRATZ, MORE WIDELY KNOWN AS
THE BARD JASKIER.
so what i immediately need is references to this in fic!!!! geralt watches jaskier teach a class and wonders why he's gesturing to his hand. jaskier communicates specific notes to another bard across a loud room by pointing them out. teaching geralt the placement and sound of the notes. jaskier doing the musical equivalent of finger counting or going through the hand as a grounding mech or practicing it when bored, singing each note as he ticks them off on his hand.
USING THE GUIDONIAN HAND AS A SILENT/SECRET CODE LANGUAGE WITH GERALT OR OTHER BARDS???
there's SO MUCH use one could get out of this and it would be SO COOL.
anyway time to go write another fanfic wip exclusively to add this into it

■ -  Bedroom/house/living quarters headcanon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
((oh wow, three people wanted to know about Orsino's living quarters, huh))
Orsino used to stay in the Sabbat headquarters for 8 years until his official training as a member of clan Banu Haqim was complete; his 'living quarters' were a pitiful prison cell back then. When he finally left the Sabbat he stayed in Alamut; where he was accepted in the sorcerer caste. Most of his assamite blood sorcery training took place there; and was also able to fine-tune his quietus skills and become a proper assassin. Alamut is famed for its austerity, so his living quarters there were very simple and devoid of decorations; one was supposed to be there only for daysleep and no other activity. Although most of his nights were filled with studying and practicing, however, Orsino doesn't remember his time in Alamut very fondly, since the place isn't the friendliest for christians. On top of that, he had to deal with some extremely radical views of Haqim supremacy and dominion over the rest of the Kindred; so he was relieved when he was allowed to leave the Holy Mountain and follow the Path of Blood in the real world.
In modern nights Orsino shares a flat with other members of his clan as well as some Salubri kindred they are protecting-and yes, he can finally own nice things (he was ecstatic to realize he could finally buy a bed that didn't feel like he was sleeping on rocks.). Although he occassionally impulse buys nice throw pillows and blankets, that's as cosy as his bedroom gets. The biggest part of it is devoted to his desk and bookshelves, that clutter most of the room. Then there is a small chest, where he keeps everything he needs to perform blood sorcery rituals. This chest is under lock and key at all times and NOONE is allowed to speak about it or its contents, under the threat of diablerie. Oh, he also has a bookshelf dedicated to his medieval chant music sheets and he can now hang a cross on the wall above his bed.
((for those who do not know much on medieval/gregorian chant music sheets...
