summary: camilo and you are best friends. recently, you've noticed that maybe you two are a bit closer than that.

warnings: technically implied homophobic encanto but not really mentioned, very short, unedited, may make a part two or something.

is this what friends did?

you laying in camilo’s lap as he softly strokes your hair, sitting on a bean bag chair in his room… You two often did this, staying up until way into the night and talking about anything and everything you had on your mind. It was way past midnight now; maybe one or two in the morning, but at some point you two stopped talking and just enjoyed each others presence. camilos eyes were closed as he caressed your hair softly, you knew he was still awake. You couldn’t bring yourself to close your eyes. You had so much going on in your mind, yet you couldn’t process a single thought.

‘This isn’t what friends do, is it?’ You knew the answer to that. The other boys your age never acted like this towards each other, instead of staying inside and basking in each others presence they played outside, being (playfully?) mean or doing other weird things teenage boys would normally do. Some of them even tried flirting with girls or even had girlfriends!

Not that you and Camilo didn’t cause any mischief here and there — but you never once saw two boys interacting with each other in the way you two did.

Did Camilo also think about things like these in the middle of the night? Your concerns only started a few weeks ago, when mirabel made a (not ill-intended) comment about you two being so close, and in the last few days when you compared your behaviour to the other teens you could only confirm that maybe you were little closer than friends normally were. “You two almost act like brothers!” mirabel said with a chuckle. You sighed. For some reason, your brain didn’t want to accept that you and Camilo were seen as brothers, but you didn’t know why.

“Are you okay?” You suddenly heard camilos voice. You looked back from the ceiling to Camilo, who still had his eyes closed. “What do you mean…?” “You sighed just now. Is anything up?” Oh right, so that wasn’t your imagination and he actually heard it. “Don’t worry, im just tired.” You yawned at the end of the sentence to further strengthen your lie. camilo opened his eyes to look at you from above, and you couldn’t help but get lost in his eyes. Cliche, yes, but you couldn’t help yourself.

‘Am I allowed to look at him like that?’

You wondered, could it be wrong, when he’s just so nice to look at?

Camilo continued to caress your hair and closed his eyes again. “If you say so.”
