Okay, but what does Vetinari do during Hogwatch? Does he go on business as usual? Do the clerks?

Because I feel like some otherworldly entity with villinous things in mind for Ankh-Morpork try to do an evil version of A Christmas Carol on him. Like, every year they try and every year he scares them away by just not putting up with it at all.

And Drumknott is the complete opposite of Bob Cratchett in every way.

I'm conflicted about Drumknott because on the one hand he's very small and weak and I kind of want to whump him, but on the other he could be kidnapped and tortured and he'd still be like. "Huh, this sucks. Oh well, I'm sure His Lordship will send someone along to rescue me soon :)"

And you can't even have the kidnapper pull an "Aha, but we've planted evidence to make it look like you betrayed the Patrician! He'll never rescue you now!" because Drumknott would just nod like, "Yes, I understand your confusion. But you see His Lordship knows I would never betray him. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, someone will be along to rescue me shortly." And he'd be right.

Istg the only way to properly whump this man is if you kill his boss off first, and even that's no fun because dying is very out of character for Vetinari.

After recently rereading The Truth, I was reminded how much of an unstoppable machine Drumknott is because little man got bonked on the head, had his arm nearly torn off and suffered a good amount of blood loss, but the moment Vetinari’s name was cleared he returned to the palace probably looking like a goddamn mummy with all his bandages ready to get back to work and Vetinari LET HIM!

I know Igor is good at what he does but damn at least let yourself rest for more than a few days.

I like to think Drumknott and Vetinari are secretly married, Plantonic or not.

The reason is so that Drumknott doesn't have to testify against the Patrician. I can imagine Vetinari being put on trial by a rival country.

Vimes, Drumknott, and Vetinari are sitting with the lawyer. "Now, we should prepare your clerk for questioning, as they will most likely try to use him as evidence against you."

Vetinari's face is cool, but he is boiling at finally being able to reveal this. "That will not be necessary."

Vimes thinks he isn't taking it seriously. "Not nec.? Not necessary! They are trying to string you up, and you are going to give them the rope."

Vetinari turns with a blank face to Vimes so he can take in his expression, "It will not be necessary, Sir Samuel, because Rufus and I are married, and as you are aware, a spouse has the right to refuse to testify against their partner. Is that not correct, Mr. Slant?"

Vimes is floored.

Drumknott acts like this is completely normal, though the tips of his ears are slightly pinker.

Mr. Slant wants his paycheck already.
